[amsat-bb] Re: Hector CO6CBF EL92 an off-line reply
John, I worked Hector on 3/3 and 21/4. I am sitting her wondering..I don't know anything about being a qsl manager but wonder if I can help him out. Particularly if it helps him achieve VUCC. I could receive e-mail logs and check and respond to mail requests. I keep up with my own cards, though the volume has dropped as more get EM30 and now abother station is in this grid. And you know I am serious about the hamsats. I'd even pay for his batch of qsl cards. That would not break me. Hi! >From your post, it seems you have a relationship with Hector. If you are not able, for financial reasons, to include the postage on the envelope, please say so in the envelope and I'll try and accommodate you. I had one request that was not in his logbook but he was able to verify the contact on his audio recording of the pass. I have his logs from his home grid of EL92 and his recent trip to EL91/FL01. Hi! Congratulations to John Papay K8YSE for reaching 1005 confirmed grids for his satellite VUCC award! John has been on the birds for the past few years, missing out on the days of HEO satellites, yet he has spent many days - and nights - chasing stations to add to his log. His Cleveland QTH has a very capable satellite station, which he has continually improved over the years. If he is in the footprint, he has been able to work anyone he hears. In fact, he has not stopped in his quest to log more satellite QSOs and grids to this day, as he tries to work Yuri UT1FG/MM wherever he happens to be sailing right now. With the wet-grid operators like Yuri and Jim ND9M/MM, coupled with others going to other dry places that aren't normally heard on the birds, who knows how many more grids John can add to his satellite log. Along with his home station, he has also worked from many locations away from home to help the rest of us get more QSOs and grids in our logs. In particular, his summer 2010 road trip around Lake Superior with a fully-capable satellite station in the back of his truck. In 2009, he helped a bunch of us with a trip to the rarely-heard state of Delaware. His Delaware QSL card was the last card I needed to file for my satellite WAS award. He has also worked from other locations to help put rare grids on the birds over the past few years. Good luck on getting many more grids, John. 73! John, I for one appreciate very much your efforts and documentation of passes. This is especially true when my tape log stops or picks up more wind noise than I am giving! Or for when I leave the tape machine at the office and I am a parking lot away. Many tnx fer a fine service! And for this effort to preserve a piece of ham sat history. 73 George WA5KBH -Original Message- From: "John Papay" Sent: Sunday, March 18, 2012 17:30 To: amsat-bb@amsat.org Subject: [amsat-bb] Satellite Recordings 2 Year Anniversary Today marks the two year anniversary of my satellite recordings website. Since March 18th, 2010, there have been about 2800 recordings posted totalling about 1.9Gb. AO-51 is the most recorded satellite with 1358 files. It was a great bird and its demise was a great loss to the satellite community. But the sound from it is preserved. It's interesting to go back and listen to some of the older recordings to see what has changed and what has not changed. AO-27 is the second most popular with about 920 recordings. They are all edited to remove the part of the pass that is either silent or contains telemetry. HO-68 is another bird which we all miss. There are 86 pass recordings to remember it by. Likewise there are 69 recordings of SO-67, a bird you could hear easily with a rubber duck antenna. There are linear bird recordings as well but I don't post many since you have to tune around to pick up qso's and then stay with them for a bit. But they are there and some show how much like HF a linear bird can sound like when someone like UT1FG/MM shows up from a wet grid. Now that VO-52 is back on I'll try to post some recordings of that one as well. I'm not sure how much longer I'll continue to post these recordings. Many that could benefit from them don't know they are there. 73, John K8YSE ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? [amsat-bb] 2013 AMSAT Symposium in Houston - My Observations
This was my first AMSAT-NA symposium. (I had been to at least two UK ones.) It was excellent. Great to put the faces with the voices. I felt right art home. And of course it was a great pleasure to finally meet Hector. We have gotten to know each other so well over the last few years via emails. It was also a treat to meet and get my picture with W5LFL. It was my unsuccessful attempt in 1983 to talk to him that kindled my interest in the hamsats. I treasure the recording I made of his pass in Columbia. I had my then 5 yr old son assist me in constructing the turnstile antenna. He is now KB5ILL. He got his ticket at age 12. (Do I hear the rumblings for a Journal article? Hi!) The symposium planners did a great job. 73 George WA5KBH -Original Message- From: "Clayton Coleman" Sent: Friday, November 8, 2013 12:15 To: "AMSAT-BB" Subject: [amsat-bb] 2013 AMSAT Symposium in Houston - My Observations 1. I lost count of the total but here are just a few of the more frequent North American stations heard on the birds: N5AFV, N5ZNL, AC0RA, CO6CBF/KF5YXV, KO4MA, WD9EWK K5OE/M0GOE, WA5KBH, KF5LOQ, N8RO, N0JE 2. There were lots of great presentations. I stayed awake for most! 3. The forecast for future transponder-capable satellites (FM & SSB) looks bright. 4. The banquet panel was outstanding and very well received by all. 5. Houston knows how to put on a fun Symposium. Kudos to the host committee! 6. I was pleased to see some of the developments around licensing Cubesats in terms of experimental versus amateur licensing. 7. We had an eclectic collection of amateurs in attendance – all with their own unique perspectives in building and/or operating satellites. You could likely never assemble such a team outside of the AMSAT Symposium venue. 8. There are many kind and generous individuals within AMSAT-NA who were supportive of one of our foreign visitors and in making his journey special. 9. Only a few people fell asleep during my presentation. None snored. 10. Even Texas BBQ from Papa’s is better than Memphis B-B-Q. This demo is for the fifth graders at St Theodore-Holy Family School in Lake Charles LA and a part of a presentation designed to drum up interest in ham radio with these students. If I hear y'all responding to him, I'll sit back and let y'all. Maybe mention your town or state instead of grid. Many thanks for your help in promoting ham radio to these kids. 73 George WA5KBH EM30 ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member?
