Yes. Already has the turbo chip etc and a backlit display. Now for sale (UK
only so far), advert in Oscar News; asking 100 UK pounds.

I'm running XP and hyperterminal works fine thru a USB serial adapter. You
could probably copy hyperterminal to other PCs.

The old battery had died but, believe it or not, that battery is still
available so I've replaced it.

[amsat-bb] Trakbox pricing ?

2014-06-02 Thread richard limebear
Hi Gang

I'll be selling a Trakbox soon; would be grateful for advice on what price to
ask (in UK money). Original price AFAIRC 100-150 UK pounds.

For those who don't know this item, its an az/el rotator controller. Feed it
keplers on the RS232 input occasionally and it'll track both rotators at the
right time.

Folks

It seems some people are unable to find the handbook (in English, French and
Italian). Look here:

I am awaiting the translations into Dutch and Spanish, maybe the translators
were waiting for me to get back from holiday (got back yesterday)

[amsat-bb] Need help dismantling KR-500

2013-10-14 Thread Richard Limebear
Its been up on the mast 20+ years but still turns ok. I now have it off the mast
and, before I sell it, I'd like to clean it up, replace the grease etc.

Loosening the screws has been quite a journey, strong wrench and lots of
blowlamp. Before I finally open it up I recall that someone had put dismantling
instructions online somewhere but I can't find them; grateful for a pointer
and/or other tips. Also which grease to use (USA greases are not available here
in the UK).

[amsat-bb] UK Only: J-Beam 2m & 70cm beams

2013-09-30 Thread richard limebear
Took my Phase-3 antennas down last week; won't be replacing them. J-beam
doesn't seem to exist any more.

2m 9XY with RHCP/LHCP switching available to a good home and for a small
exchange of funds. Needs gentle treatment (couple of slightly bent elements),
buyer collects from Enfield (M-25 J-25).

70cm 12XY elements available for cost of postage only. Feedpoint innards rusty
so useless as a full antenna.

Az and el rotators too.

Anyone interested ? email to the usual amsat.org address

As an HF operator may I suggest you have a base frequency of 7.020 or higher
rather than 7010. The lower parts of the bands can get quite congested at times
so this would give ground stations a better chance of hearing them. Certainly
7.020 is often occupied.

I'm surprised no-one else has done the math on this. The website says
they'll launch 30 tubesats on a flight. 30 x eight grand comes out just
under a quarter million US dollars - and they say this will cover *all*
associated services as well as the launch. I find it rather hard to
believe that even the launch vehicle would only cost US$240K per flight.
