Re: [amsat-bb] Obtaining G/T of the satellite Ground Station.

The Software Orbitron, allows Sun tracking as an option, assuming your
rotator system is compatable with this software. Rather than tracking
a satellite you can change it to track the sun/moon, in the settings
page It connects via WiSPDDE software to the rotator system.

You then need a way of measuring the noise when pointed at the sun and
pointed away from the sun.

Measure the noise between the preamplifier and the Kenwood radio, but
be careful of any DC power on the cable to power the pre-amplifier.
The spectrum analyser should be OK for this job.

[amsat-bb] Obtaining G/T of the satellite Ground Station.

2014-06-04 Thread Rupesh Lad
Dear all,
We have a functional Ground station setup at QTH location MK68WM. We have a
2 Unit array of circularly polarized Yagi antenna mounted on antenna rotor
system for tracking satellites operating in UHF band.
Instrumentation available with us is Signal generators, Signal Analyzers,
Vector Network analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer. The ground station setup
includes antenna,Low noise amplifier, followed by 15m LMR 400 coax carrying
signals to Kenwood TS2000 and RF switches to protect LNA during
transmission.

We wish to obtain G/T ratio of our system. Could you please throw some
light on how to proceed?

One way to measure the g/t is to use sun noise. You point your antenna
toward the sun and cold sky and measure the delta noise. Use that attached
ss to calculate the g/t . I have a similar system and let compare notes.
Also take a look at the SETTI League doc for back grown
