Tim, I want to personally thank you for your efforts in making the contact and arranging the inaugural satellite 13 colonies event. I enjoyed the opportunity to represent NY as WB2OQQ/K2A and all the stations that contacted us, in Tim's words "it was a hoot", thank you. 73, Pete, WB2OQQ ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Original 13 Colonies - thanks to all!
Hey everyone, Thank you all for participating in the Original 13 Colonies special event. I regret that we only had 11 of the 13 colonies active on the satellites, and hope we can have them all for the 2010 event. It appears as though many satellite operators were looking for the special call signs on virtually all the satellites. Here, as N3TL/K2G, I completed contacts on AO-7, AO-27, AO-51, FO-29, SO-50 and VO-52. I also digipeated a general greeting via packet through the ISS, but did not complete a 2-way contact. My log to KU2US includes the following details. 82 contacts that include: 24 states 2 Canadian provinces - Ontario and Quebec 3 DX entities - Honduras, Mexico and the U.K. 50 grid squares Last Thursday, I got an email from Jim, G3WGM, asking whether I'd be interested in tyring to make a contact with "the Motherland" during the special event. We made it happen at 00:54 UTC on July 4th, from the southernmost of the Original 13. Thanks, Jim, for staying up so late! Thanks again to everyone for participating. Remember to visit Ken's page at www.qrz.com/KU2US for all the details on getting a certificate. 73 to all, Tim - N3TL/K2G - Georgia ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Original 13 Colonies Special Event
Hey everyone, As I type this (1304 UTC), the Special Event has begun! My thanks to all of the operators who've volunteered to help activate colonies on the satellites. Thanks, too, to everyone at AMSAT for the support it is providing, including a presence on the AMSAT-NA home page. That simply is wonderful, and very, very much appreciated. One last update - we've added Maryland! Bruce, WA3SWJ, will be activating that colony during the event with the special call sign WA3SWJ/K2F. That means we have 11 of the 13 original colonies active on the satellites from now through midnight EDT Saturday (0359 UTC on July 5). That is outstanding! Here, I intend to work CW quite a bit on the linear satellites (AO-7, FO-29 and VO-52), so listen for N3TL/K2G below the middle of those satellites' passbands. I'll try to work at least one pass of each satellite in SSB, but I hope we can get some CW ops on the air and in orbit! 73 to all from the Georgia Colony! [amsat-bb] Original 13 Colonies update
Hey everyone, I've just heard from Gary, N2AUO, who is interested in activating Pennsylvania on the satellites during the Original 13 Colonies special event this week. That gives us 10 of the Original 13 Colonies that will be active on the satellites during this event! Thanks to Gary for his interest in participating. At the request of the event's organizer (Ken. KU2US), those of us active on the satellites will be IDing with our own call sign/special event call. For example, I will be IDing as N3TL/K2G. I'll add that I'm the station in Georgia for the special event, just to be clear. Ken also has advised that he is adding a special satellite designator to the certificates for those who earn them via satellite contacts. Thanks to him for doing this. For the latest information on the Original 13 Colonies Special Event, please go to www.QRZ.com/ku2us. The event begins at 1300 UTC July 1 and ends at 0359 UTC on July 5. 73 to all, Tim - N3TL ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? [amsat-bb] Original 13 Colonies Special Event Update - K2T
Instead of signing K2J as initially planned, I was able to get "K2T" ("T" since North Carolina is the "Tarheel" State) assigned to me at the last minute for the 1-4 July time frame. K2J will still be on the air from NC, at least on HF, and I'll be QRV on both HF as well as the sats. I'll be on the FM birds at the least; the linear sats will be used as well if I can get my Acer netbook to use SatPC32 to talk to my 897 and?adjust the freqs for Doppler. Contacts with either K2J or K2T will count for North Carolina toward the certificate offered for the event. Nine of the 13 colonial states will have sat stations on during the event. We're still looking for ops for Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Pse note that the special event runs the calendar days of 1-4 July; per the event web site, it officially runs out at 05/0400Z July. Finally, for?any sat op who is a county hunter, I'll be running North Carolina counties on both CW and SSB on 20, 30, and 40 meters as K2T throughout the event period and then using my regular call afterward on the way home to Florida. Spots of my HF county hunting operation will be available at http://ch.w6rk.com/?and will include the county that I'm in at the spot time shown. Although the grid square is not indicated on this web site, it shouldn't be difficult to identify since the county I'm in is shown. 73, Jim, ND9M / VQ9JC / K2T ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org.
