[analog-help] line in log file has no bytes
I can't get Analog to produce a report... I have been getting this error message: [logfile path/name] contains lines with no bytes: byte counts may be low I have found documentation about this error that tells me what it means, but have no idea how to fix it. I have tried upgrading Analog to ver 6, going back to the default config file, and removing the offending log file (in which case it moves to the next one, and tells me that one contains lines with no bytes)... FYI, I am running Analog on Windows 2000, log file is on a Win2000 server (running IIS). I had been running Analog 5.32, running automatically every day, then all of a sudden (apparently in February) it stopped producing reports, and started producing this error. I've gone back to the logging properties in IIS manager and added bytes sent and bytes received, which - if this was the problem - I assume will help on a going forward basis, but is there any way to process/view the logs that didn't have that data (Feb - Apr)? Any idea why this happened (it was working - producing reports, and now it's not)? Any suggestions or help or ideas will be appreciated. Thanks! RE: [analog-help] line in log file has no bytes
It seems to be magically working now. I have rebooted in the meantime (for my Outlook problem), so maybe that did it (note to self - always try reboot first!)... when I went back to try your suggestion, Aengus, I tried it one more time running from the icon and it produced the report, so I'm modifying the new 6.0 config file - gradually - to match the features I had already added to my old config file. If it breaks again in this process, I'll know that what I just added to the config file is the problem. Anyway, thanks for your help. I've learned a few things in the process. Thanks! RE: [analog-help] First time user
Mike, that looks like the exact same format of my log file - typical Windows IIS - and I didn't have to put in a LOGFORMAT command at all. Try taking it out completely, and see if that helps. I could be wrong, since I'm a relatively new user myself, but Analog seems pretty intuitive, and worked "right out of the box" for me. RE: [analog-help] report history
OH, actually, I see that I was looking at the wrong one. You're right - we got more hits than that. On looking at the cumulative one now, I see that it does give a proper breakdown, and the daily ones really only do run on one day's worth of data, so to get it to run correctly and keep historical data (analog does not remember, it only summarizes what you name as the logfile), you must have analog run on more than one day's worth every time it runs. AHA! Thanks - I appreciate your help. It always helps me to discuss a problem to figure it out... Now I need to go reconfigure and tweak it to do it daily, monthly, and summarize for the year. I guess I will need some separate config files for each of those. Hmm. RE: [analog-help] report history
This is what I mean by disguised - this is what I got for the last 4 or so years. Note how our site was only viewed on Thursday... Thursday was the day I ran that report. It looks like it combined and summarized all that data as if it had been just the data for that one day. I thought it would show which days of the week (or months or weeks) got more hits for the past 4 years. All the reports similarly combined the data as if it were the data for the one day that I ran the report. Or ex200410*.log. Or whichever ones you want to look at. I don't understand the bit about "disguised" though. [analog-help] report history
I have been running analog for a couple of weeks now, and am running on daily Windows server IIS logs, using the logfile format ex%y%M%D.log, so that it picks up each day's file when it runs at night (scheduled through windows task scheduler on my local machine). Also, analog is running on my local machine, using the log files on the windows server which is mapped as a drive. The problem I'm having is that analog does not seem to be compiling historical data on its own, so each day's analog report just has a daily report with that day on it (whereas, I believe you're supposed to be able to see previous days for comparison). The weekly report is the same thing. I have tried running using logfile as ex*.log but that took a million forevers to run, and ended up giving me historical data for the past 4 years, but disguised it to look like all the activity happened the day I ran it. I am SURE I'm missing something in the setup, but I can't figure it out. Can anyone suggest how I might change the configuration to make useful history reports? Thanks in advance for ANY help - I am open to all suggestions! steph PS. I also use analog on Dreamhost, which is already preconfigured - so I know all this can be done, and what it CAN look like, if I can get the settings right + | TO UNSUBSCRIBE from this list: |http://lists.meer.net/mailman/listinfo/analog-help | | Usenet version: news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.analog.general | List archives: http://www.analog.cx/docs/mailing.html#listarchives +
