[android-developers] GooglePlayServicesUtil.isGooglePlayServicesAvailable returns SERVICE_INVALID on a stock Samsung Galaxy S6 phone

2016-01-14 Thread Dan Katz
Hi All,

I'm a developer for a company with several apps. We are
using GooglePlayServicesUtil.isGooglePlayServicesAvailable to check if the
device has Google Play services installed regularly on app startup. We've
noticed that from time to time - on Two Samsung Galaxy 6 devices we get
SERVICE_INVALID (9) response from the isGooglePlayServicesAvailable (which
means "The version of the Google Play services installed on this device is
not authentic.").

We are using a old Google Play services lib (3.2.65) due to compatibility
reasons (I know , we should upgrade ASAP, we are working on it).

We are talking about Stock Android devices, fully updated, that no one
changed in any way. We display a msg to the user in case
isGooglePlayServicesAvailable
returns a value other than success, which causes some confusion when it
returns SERVICE_INVALID because the app receives Gcm msgs although it's
"invalid".

Any idea? I posted this question in Stackoverflow.com

as well.

Thanks!

[android-developers] Re: save web page login credentials via webview in android storage

2016-01-14 Thread Streets Of Boston
You should NEVER store the users credentials (password) in
SharedPreferences or anywhere else for that matter. This is very un-secure.
At best, use Android's *AccountManager* facilities.

Back to your WebView question.

The WebView of your app gets access to a cache where it can cache the
necessary data such as cookies. Methods that allow access from your *Java*
code to this cached data are gradually deprecated and taken out.

If the HTLM login-page allows the user to save (part of) his or her
credentials, it will be taken care off automatically (e.g. a small
"remember my info" checkbox or something similar is shown and a cookie will
store the necessary data).

In other words, the solution lies in the design and implementation of the
HTML login-page(s). Don't do anything special in your Java code for
remembering user-name and password.
The only thing you may want to get out of the HTML login is the user's
access or authorization token(s). If you use a embedded *WebView*, you can
use the *JavascriptInterface* facilities for that.

[android-developers] Re: Audio recording problem - fake sample rate

2016-01-14 Thread Robert Scott
Not even 44,100 works correctly on the LG-G3. I got one of my customers to
try an experimental version of my app on their LG-G3. This experimental
version used 44,100 samples per second right from the beginning. It turns
out that on the LG-G3 this customer has, the audio is first sampled at only
8000 samples per second, and the up-sampled to create 44,100 samples per
second, which does not contain all the frequency content it would have had
if it were sampled at 44,100 to being with. I see no way around it.

[android-developers] LTE signal ASU level always 97

2016-01-14 Thread Onur Ergin

I am capturing the RSSI values of LTE signals using the below code:

cInfoList = telephony_manager.getAllCellInfo()for (CellInfo info : cInfoList){
if (info instanceof CellInfoLte) {
CellSignalStrengthLte signalstrength_lte = ((CellInfoLte)
info).getCellSignalStrength();
displayAsu.setText(signalstrength_lte.getAsuLevel() + "");
displayDbm.setText(signalstrength_lte.getDbm() + "");
}}

(*note: I just simplified my code: for-loop doesn't override text fields.)

In one phone (LG G4) I am getting meaningful vales: *Asu_level=32, dbm=-108*

But in another phone (Samsung Galaxy S6) I am getting invalid values:
*Asu_level=97,
dbm=1022*

In Samsung phone's Settings->AboutPhone->Status->SignalStrength I see *-107dBm
33 asu* (which make sense)

*LG G4: Android 5.1, API 22* and *Samsung Galaxy S6: Android 5.0.2, API 21*

Why does the same code show different behaviors (Asu levels) on different
phones??

[android-developers] New Google plus sign in gives handleSignInResult:false

2016-01-14 Thread Lakna Koshilani Ariyathilaka
I'm following the sample code given by Google to integrate Google plus with
android.
https://github.com/googlesamples/google-services/blob/master/android/signin/app/src/main/java/com/google/samples/quickstart/signin/SignInActivity.java

That code sample worked perfectly fine until I added some changes as
follows.

GoogleSignInOptions gso = new
GoogleSignInOptions.Builder(GoogleSignInOptions.DEFAULT_SIGN_IN)
 .requestScopes(new Scope(Scopes.PLUS_LOGIN))
 .requestEmail()
 .build();

mGoogleApiClient = new GoogleApiClient.Builder(this)
 .enableAutoManage(this /* FragmentActivity */, this /*
OnConnectionFailedListener */)
 .addApi(Auth.GOOGLE_SIGN_IN_API, gso)
 .build();

signinGoogleBtn = (SignInButton) findViewById(R.id.signingoogleBtn);
signinGoogleBtn.setSize(SignInButton.SIZE_STANDARD);
signinGoogleBtn.setScopes(gso.getScopeArray());

I added Google+ scopes to GoogleSignInOptions in order to customize the
signin button. Then handleSignInResult always returns false.
Could anyone please help me to fix this issue?

[android-developers] Re: Audio recording problem - fake sample rate

2016-01-14 Thread Julian Bunn
I have a free app called "AudioCaps" on Play, which will iterate through
all standard play/record modes/rates and create a list of them with the min
buffer sizes, that your user can then email to you. I found this helpful
when I initially released AudioTool - maybe it will provide more "remote
insight" for you?

[android-developers] Re: Audio recording problem - fake sample rate

2016-01-14 Thread Julian Bunn
Make sure you are sizing the buffers correctly i.e. respecting the minimum
recording buffer size (in bytes) required. If you don't then I believe the
system will drop you down to 8kHz sample rate, which is what you are seeing
(I think?).
