[android-developers] Problem signing up for Google Play for Education

2013-11-26 Thread Cliff Davies
My application was reviewed for Google Play for Education and had issues
that needed to be addressed. I was instructed to "visit
developer.android.com/edu and sign
up<https://services.google.com/fb/forms/playedu>"
but I get Internal Server Error 500 on every attempt to sign up. Has
anyone else had these problems?

Re: [android-developers] How to load a Test APK into Galaxy-S4 and Nexus 7

2013-11-19 Thread Cliff Davies
DropBox and TestFlight both offer pain free methods of installing an APK
onto non-local devices. Or, as Steve says, the alpha/beta feature in Play
Store is a nice system with the benefit that users will automatically get
updates when you upload them to the store.

Re: [android-developers] imageButton as global variable not working... why??

If you mean that you're putting the line

ImageButton imgBtn=(ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.imgBtn);

with your declarations for silent and ringer then you're initialising the
variable before the view has been created

Re: [android-developers] Installation Error

2011-04-07 Thread Cliff Davies
The first, most important step, would be to try repeatedly bumping your
post. If that fails you could take the second, slightly more extreme, step
which would be to post the question again under a different heading. If at
this point you're still having no luck (and you should only try this as a
very last resort) you could add some relevant details about the problem to
your post ;)

Re: [android-developers] Small Size Activity Layout as compare to Original Device size

2011-03-25 Thread Cliff Davies
The way I go about this is to use a theme such as -

true

@color/transparent

Setting windowNoTitle prevents the dialog title from being displayed.
Setting windowBackground to transparent stops the white border from being
displayed around the dialog. Transparent is set in my colours.xml file as -

#

Then in your manifest file set the theme for your activity to
@style/ModifiedDialog

[android-developers] Problem positioning scaled images

2011-03-17 Thread Cliff Davies
I'm trying to create a 2 x 3 set of ImageViews which use scaled down images.
The three rows are spaced equally to fit inside a LinearLayout (by using
three equally weighted linear layouts). If I put two images in each row and
use centerInside, fitStart or any other scale type that maintains the aspect
ratio, the images appear the correct size but are not positioned adjacent to
each other horizontally. Horizontally each is within a space equal to the
unscaled image width, so there is a large gap between them.

This is the case if I set the Src in the XML layout or if I add the images
using addImageResource at run time.

I know I can create my own custom view for the layout which will contain the
images, and calculate the requisite image sizes in the onSizeChanged
function. But before I do that I was wondering if I'm missing something
obvious or if there's some view type that caters for this automatically?

Thanks,

Cliff

That just happened to me. Cleaning the project made no difference yet,
weirdly, closing all my source code windows and then cleaning the project
seemed to fix it.

It should be stored in data/data//databases/

If you have a database already prepared that you want to use, you can store
it in the assets folder of your project and copy it across to the necessary
folder at run time (assuming you want read/write access to it)

Out of interest, what are the other reasons? I find the visual editor
doesn't give an exact idea of the final layout (doesn't auto-scale properly,
show custom views sometimes or show sliding drawers at all) but it helps get

[android-developers] Re: Opening SlidingDrawer completely

2011-01-31 Thread Cliff Davies
I've managed this now. In case it's of use to anyone else, I achieved it by
overriding the onDrawerOpen function and using it to call
handle.setBackgroundResource(0). This effectively removes the handle when
the drawer is as open as it can go, allowing the drawer to slide to cover
the full screen.

[android-developers] Opening SlidingDrawer completely

2011-01-31 Thread Cliff Davies
I'd like to use a regular SlidingDrawer but with one exception - when it's
open I'd like it to completely fill the screen (so that even the handle
slides from the screen). I can do this by setting a negative topOffset in
the XML but need to know the size of the drawer's handle before I can know
the value to put in topOffset. Is there a way of setting topOffset other
than through the XML? If there's no other way, I'll write a new class based
on SlidingDrawer, but that seems excessive for the sake of setting one
variable.

[android-developers] How can I freeze top row of TableLayout when scrolling?

2011-01-20 Thread Cliff Davies
I'm creating a table layout at run time which is contained in a scroll view,
and am looking for a method of freezing the top row so that it remains
locked at the top of the screen while the rest of the table is able to
scroll up/down.

The only way that comes to mind is to -

Create a table1 containing the top row
Create a table2 containing the rest of the rows
Copy the column widths from table2 to table1
Put table2 inside a scroll view

Is there a better method for achieving the desired results?

Re: [android-developers] Problem with using back button when on home activity

2011-01-20 Thread Cliff Davies
Do something along these lines -

Intent i = new Intent(mContext, HomeActivity.class);
i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
mContext.startActivity(i);

That will clear the stack back to, and including, the previous instance of
HomeActivity and then create a new HomeActivity. If you want to go back to
the previous instance of HomeActivity without removing it and creating a new
one, you need to also set HomeActivity to a launch mode of singleTop in the
manifest.

Re: [android-developers] ImageView frame-by-frame animations scaling at bounds of RelativeLayout

2011-01-18 Thread Cliff Davies
I've done further tests on this and the description of the problem wasn't
entirely accurate.

If I set up a RelativeLayout and put a ViewImage (with the image on the
background - not the src) so that it's partly inside and partly outside the
screen bounds, the image will scale rather than clip. I am seeing the same
result when preforming a frame-to-frame animation on the image, but it's
easier to show using a static background image.

This is the Layout XML for the example (using the icon as it's there as a
default image)

http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android";
android:clipChildren="false" android:clipToPadding="false">

Using the above layout you can see the scaling happen in the Graphical
Layout view in Eclipse (using "2.7 in QVGA config).

So how can I make this clip rather than scale? As far as I know, I have to
use the background rather than source so that I can add my frame-by-frame
animation to it.

Many thanks in advance,

Cliff
