The apk's MANIFEST.MF file seems to list all the shared libaries for each

Any ideas of what could be going wrong?

[android-developers] Re: Can't enable USB debugging on LG Aristo

2017-02-10 Thread Eric Jorgensen
I finally solved this by:

   1. Go to developer settings and set the USB mode to PTP
   2. Plug the phone into the usb port
   3. Click the notification tag that comes up and switch the USB Mode to
   "Picture Mode"

[android-developers] Can't enable USB debugging on LG Aristo

2017-02-09 Thread Eric Jorgensen
I just purchased an LG Aristo and I'm trying to debug on it, but even with
"USB Debugging" enabled, the adb server can't see the device. I've read in
other posts that I am supposed to change the USB connection mode to "PC
Software", but that mode is not even listed. These are the available modes
on the Aristo: "Charging", "File Transfer", "Photo Transfer", and "MIDI
Device". I've tried all of these modes, but none of them work. Any ideas
how to fix this?

[android-developers] Multi-locale doesn't work in Android N emulator

2016-08-07 Thread Eric Chiang
>From my experiment in Android N emulator, Locale.getDefault() method always
get the first preference in user's locale list.
No matter the first preference locale exist in my apps or not ,the result
always the same.
If the apps do not have resources for the first locale , the app would not
choose the second one or others in the locale list but the "default"
locale!
Not like the website(
https://developer.android.com/preview/features/multilingual-support.html
,https://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/LocaleList.html )said:

   *Table 3.* Resource resolution when the app only matches the user's
   second-preferred locale setting.
   User SettingsApp ResourcesResource Resolution
   1. fr_CH
  2. it_CH
   default (en)

   Try fr => Fail
   Try children of fr => Fail
   Try it_CH => Fail
   Try it => Fail
   Try children of it => it_IT
   Use it_IT

   The user still gets a language they understand, even though the app
   doesn’t support French.

getDefault
Added in API level 24
<https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/manifest/uses-sdk-element.html#ApiLevels>

LocaleList <https://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/LocaleList.html>
getDefault ()

The result is guaranteed to include the default Locale returned by
Locale.getDefault(), but not necessarily at the top of the list. The
default locale not being at the top of the list is an indication that the
system has set the default locale to one of the user's other preferred
locales, having concluded that the primary preference is not supported but
a secondary preference is.

Note that the default LocaleList would change if Locale.setDefault() is
called. This method takes that into account by always checking the output
of Locale.getDefault() and recalculating the default LocaleList if needed.

Returns
LocaleList
<https://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/LocaleList.html>
May I ask why this happen? Do I need to set any further settings for apps
to enable multi-locale? Thanks!

Best Regard
Eric Chiang

[android-developers] `java.lang.NoSuchMethodException` on release builds even with `minifyEnabled false` in my build.gradle

2016-07-07 Thread Eric Atkin
I have a static method that is called using reflection which throws
java.lang.NoSuchMethodException in release builds.
I assume proguard is removing it as static analysis shows the method as
unused.
I've also tried @Keep annotations and '-keep' directives in
proguard-rules.txt but no change.

How can I enable verbose proguard debug output to verify that it is the
culprit?
Can anyone help?

The elapsed time is 90ms vs. 6200ms. It's abnormal for Lollipop. What's
should I do?

[android-developers] Re: Android CTS 5.1_r4 fails with "Start test run of 0 packages, containing 0 tests"

2016-01-20 Thread Eric Hefner
Its not obvious from the naming conventions whether ARM/x86 is for the host
or target.
You will get this "error" if you are using the wrong CTS suite for your
target Android device:

Android 6.0 R2 Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) - ARM is for ARM based
Android devices
Android 6.0 R2 Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) - x86 is for x86 based
Android devices

[android-developers] How to stop an applications music/sound when HOME button is pressed?

2016-01-03 Thread Eric Risdall
I am developing an app in Flash Professional CS5.5 & Actionscript 3 for the
Android phone. When I hit the HOME button to exit the app, the background
music keeps playing. I have already tried the following two methods:

METHOD 1:
package
{   import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;
public class Main extends Sprite
{   public function Main():void
{   stage.addEventListener(Event.ACTIVATE, onAppActivated);
stage.addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE, onAppDeactivated);
}
private function onAppActivated(e:Event):void
{   // Play audio
}
private function onAppDeactivated(e:Event):void
{   // Stop audio
}
}
}

METHOD 2:
package
{   import flash.desktop.NativeApplication
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;
public class Main extends Sprite
{   public function Main():void
{
NativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN,
onKeyDown);
}
protected function onKeyDown(e:KeyboardEvent):void
{   if(e.keyCode == Keyboard.HOME)
{   //stop audio.
}
}
}
}

Neither method works for stopping the audio & frankly i'm at a loss as for
how to proceed here. Is there any way to override the home key? or maybe
there is something I can add to the XML manifest for the app? (something
like UIApplicationExitsOnSuspend]]>?)

[android-developers] Re: Dolby Audio API

2014-05-21 Thread Eric Ang
We definitely could and that is a discussion we are having for sure!
Technically we can, but from a business standpoint the OEM actually
licenses the solution. The API itself gives Android Developers access to
that licensed solution.

I am trying to come up with an offering that we can definitely include as a
service through Google Play. So we can broaden the playing field!

[android-developers] Re: Dolby Audio API

2014-02-20 Thread Eric Ang
Hey Ubuntu, the reason the API isn't bundled is because the API makes
callbacks to the underlying Dolby Tech built into supported Devices. The
Dolby Service is definitely in Amazon Devices, but also many other OEMS.
We're working to get ALL OEM partners to adopt the Dolby Solution
(including the Dolby decoder)

So what does that means for App Developers? Instead of having to deal with
a whole SDK built into your app, you integrate a small jar file that's tiny
which can talk to the underlying Dolby tech found on supported devices.

We are working all those companies ;) Amazon is definitely pushing for this
since all their Kindle Fire HD(X) devices have Dolby built in.

Thanks Kris, My plan is to put the API specs directly online instead of
inside the downloadable package. That was determined before I joined so I'm
on top of that ;)

Regarding formatting, let me know what exactly. I asked my engineering to
scrub at it. If you are willing to take a stab, send me a note and I would
love to work together with you on this.

[android-developers] Dolby Audio API

Hey Everyone,

I recently joined Dolby Laboratories and Dolby has an Android Audio API
which enhances Audio.

Is this something you folks would be interested in?

It's a Java Library with a few simple API calls.

Anyways, I'd like to use this to get feedback as well.

The API is available at http://developer.dolby.com

Thanks!

[android-developers] Re: How to solve the issue with Dalvik compiler limitation on 64K methods?

2013-03-23 Thread Eric Lafortune
If you apply ProGuard with shrinking enabled but optimization and
obfuscation disabled (-dontoptimize -dontobfuscate), the code will already
be more compact, and you can still use a debugger. The source files, class
names, method names, line numbers, etc remain unchanged and any breakpoints
in removed unreachable code are irrelevant.

The debug build in the Android plugin for Eclipse always skips ProGuard
though, so you'd have to use another build process.

an amazing design-focused engineer; an engineer who wants to have impact in
health technologies and change the world for the better. We are working
collectively on trying to solve complex societal problems like childhood
obesity, chronic physical inactivity, poor sleep, improving the design of
cities to make them healthier, more environmentally sustainable, and
livable, and improving access to food for those most in need. To do this,
a key part of our collective work involves the use of mobile and web
technologies to foster these sorts of societal changes. We need a
passionate developer interested in changing the world with us to make it
happen though!

We are seeking applicants for a* mobile software programmer*,
preferably living
or willing to live in the Phoenix Metro area. This programmer would be the
second programmer hired within the School's nascent "Programming Core,"
headed by Henry Barto. For this position, the programmer will be working
with research faculty  <http://healthpromotion.asu.edu/faculty>and students
within the school to design and develop a variety of different mobile and
other software tools broadly focused on promoting healthier living (e.g.,
see designinghealth.org for a list of past research focused on technology
and behavior change conducted by one of the faculty).

For full details and benefits and to apply, see

Actually, I know some company have created app that WIFI display app that
can do something similar.. although I have not tested it myself yet.
I wonder how it is possible to do this in a usable manner...

I believe you know it is possible to take screenshot in Android if you have

There are many apps around that do this, some even stream it live but the
fps is too low to be useful.

Creating an app to act as Miracast display would be something I would
be interested to hire someone (or license an app) to make it possible too.

[android-developers] Replacing the Incoming Call Screen

2012-10-25 Thread Eric Brynsvold
This has been addressed a few times in the past on this forum, but nothing
in the last year+, so I wanted to see if anything had changed. Is it at
all possible to hide the incoming call screen in order to display a small
overlay for the incoming call? I can launch my app by listening to
the android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE action, but I can not abort the
broadcast (as it is non-ordered) and I can not hide the default screen. I
found an app on the Play
Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.perracolabs.tcc>that
claims to do this, but it doesn't work on my Galaxy Nexus (4.1.2) or
my Galaxy S1 (2.3.7), so they may be using some sort of hack that doesn't
work on all phones.

I understand the security concerns for opening this up to app developers,
but I think it would still be very useful if we could figure out a way to
make it safe for the users as well.

Thanks,
Eric Brynsvold

[android-developers] Re: Adding virtual device on Emulator.

2012-08-31 Thread Eric Johnson
By virtual device do you mean an extra virtual network device? Assuming
you're using the ARM emulator, this can be done by passing extra options to
qemu.

I'm going to also assume (1) you are running Linux (Mac I believe is okay,
too) as I do not know how to do this on Windows; and (2) you have tunctl
(on Ubuntu, this can be installed with sudo apt-get install uml-utilities).

You can create a TUN/TAP device with:
sudo tunctl -u  -t tap0

You can install the TUN/TAP device on the emulator with:
emulator -qemu -net nic -net user -net nic -net
tap,ifname=tap0,script=no,downscript=no

I have found the script=no and downscript=no options to be useful for
avoiding errors when the emulator shuts down.

You can confirm the TUN/TAP device is running with:
adb shell netcfg

You should see something like this:
lo   UP   127.0.0.1/8   0x0049
00:00:00:00:00:00
eth0 UP   10.0.2.15/24  0x1043
52:54:00:12:34:56
eth1 DOWN   0.0.0.0/0   0x1002
52:54:00:12:34:57
tunl0DOWN   0.0.0.0/0   0x0080
00:00:00:00:00:00
gre0 DOWN   0.0.0.0/0   0x0080
00:00:00:00:00:00

Notice the eth1 device; this corresponds to tap0 that you just created. To
confirm, on the emulator run:
ifconfig eth1 up 10.11.12.2 netmask 255.255.255.0

On the host, open up a new terminal window and run:
sudo ifconfig tap0 up 10.11.12.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
sudo tcpdump -n icmp -v -i tap0

Finally, on the emulator run:
route add default gw 10.11.12.1 dev eth1
ping -c 5 10.11.12.1

You should get output similar to:

[android-developers] Ant Dex creating a apk

2012-08-19 Thread Eric
We are attempting to create our apk using the ant build system. Our
Eclipse workspace has several other android jar libraries. After having
Android ant create our ant project file, we are having the following issues:

1. The ant build script is building the Android libraries with a name of
classes.jar and not the project name
2. The dex part of the build is throwing exceptions saying that our classes
have been multiply defined? How do we resolve this?
3. The dex part of the build script is asking for our library jar files to
be named classes.jar, how do we change the script to use a different name?

This Eclipse workspace is building fine in Eclipse, is there another option
for building the project outside of Eclipse?

Thanks

Eric

there is an option inside settings -> developer to limit the number of

I know my Nexus S here lags a lot running Android 4.0 :(
Not sure if 4.1 will have improvements or not.. still waiting for OTA.

[android-developers] Pressure On touchScreen of Android 4.0

2012-07-25 Thread eric
When I tried to use getPressure() in onTouchEvent(), the value is always
1.0 on Android 4.0. However, the value is okay(0-1) on Android 2.1. Is
there any problem?
The code is like this:

@Override
public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) {
super.onTouchEvent(event);

float allWidth = this.getWidth();
float allHeight = this.getHeight();

calculate(event.getX(), event.getY(), allWidth, allHeight,
event.getPressure());
return true;
}

I believe USB OTG normally only support around 100mA of current, only

Try searching for USB OTG power output.

Sounds like you would need to have on board battery in your device to
support its power consumption.

[android-developers] Re: Streaming buffering problem for high bitrate video (>10Mbps)

I noticed that Google have replaced OpenCore with Stagefright since

I would like comment from someone working on Stagefright to tell me
whether this high bitrate video streaming problem is related to
Stagefright or not.
However, I don't know who to ask when I don't know who makes
Stagefright..

Interesting, someone don't want to use WIFI and want a wired tablet :O
Doesn't it just defeat the purpose of having a tablet? while it is
still tethered to a computer USB port for network?
I certainly don't see its merit in terms of power consumption and
complexity.

Why don't you just use the computer then?

My suggestion is to use a tablet that have a physical Ethernet
connection.
Some tablet have ethernet port when you use the dock. Isn't this a
better solution than a tablet tethered to a computer USB port?

Otherwise, I wonder how it is possible for USB client (tablet) to
access the computer's network... via USB..
Even if it is feasible, sounds like it needs complicated/customized
applications on both PC and tablet to do it.

[android-developers] Hidden App in the Play Store ?

2012-05-10 Thread Eric
I manually installed my app on a few various devices before
distributing these devices to my clients.

Now I would like to offer an updated version of this app that only
those with these specific devices could download it.
(The updated App has the same package name and higher version number)

I don’t want the updated app to be visible while searching the play
store and I would like that these devices will receive an notification
regarding the available update

Is there a way to achieve this?
Will unpublishing an app will still allow it to be updated?

[android-developers] Re: All APK has cracked by apkcracks.net

2012-05-08 Thread Eric Lafortune
ProGuard and the new tool are my own developments. The Android team
includes ProGuard in the SDK.

The new tool currently focuses on dalvik bytecode, with automated
string encryption, class encryption, and reflection. Developers can
always encrypt/obfuscate resource files themselves. Automating general
resource encryption will be challenging.

We're finishing up an Android-specific tool that goes further than
ProGuard. It should become available in the coming few weeks.

[android-developers] Re: New Proguard scheme breaks Log message removal

2012-05-08 Thread Eric Lafortune
Removing Log calls still works for me. You have to make sure
optimization is not disabled though (as is done by default in the SDK
tools rev. 19). Also, the current version of ProGuard might not
optimally remove all code in the arguments of the Log calls (like
String concatenations).

[android-developers] Odd ICS only, ScrollView/ListView, landscape only shadow at top of View

2012-04-27 Thread Eric Miles
I am seeing an odd dark shadow at the top of all ScrollView and ListViews
in my application that I can't seem to get rid of. The odd part about it,
it ONLY appears in landscape mode on the Galaxy Nexus or in the emulator.
 It doesn't appear on any emulators running 2.2 or 2.3.x, nor does it
appear on my Captivate running 2.3.3. Also, it doesn't appear on my Asus
Transformer Prime running 4.0.3 in landcape mode, so it seems like the
issue is localized to the Galaxy Nexus and the Android emulator with a
4.0.x based AVD. I do not have anything within the app that would provide
a different theme/layout/style for orientation, nor OS version. Can anyone
provide me some guidance here?

Here are two snippets of a screenshot, one in landscape, the other in
portrait

[android-developers] Streaming buffering problem for high bitrate video (>10Mbps)

2012-03-25 Thread Eric Wong (hdmp4.com)
Hi,
We are developing applications that allows one to stream video from
any LAN device (e.g. computer, Android phone/tablet, etc) to an
Android device.

Recently, we encountered a very strange problem on buffering and we
believe the issue is possibly related to Android's platform/framework,
i.e. lower level stuff.

This video shows the problem we are experiencing
http://hdmp4.com/TCC9302_STB_buffering_problem.3gp

I have tested the same operation on 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab (Android
2.2), Nexus S (Android 2.3) and an Android setop box the one shown in
the video).

The issues is that when the STREAMING video exceeds a certain bitrate,
the video either stops after 5-10 seconds, and then dies (or may
continue playing for a few more seconds before dying) or it simply do
not play at all.

However, if I use an application that decodes the video by software
decoding instead of hardware decoding. The video was able to play from
start to the end without any problems. (due to slow CPU, arm11,
800mhz, video playback by software decoding as shown in the video link
above actually lags but it does play fine.)

I run the test streaming the video from a computer connected to the
LAN via 100Mbps ethernet.
All the test device are connected to the LAN via a b/g WIFI router.
I can confirm that there is absolutely no problem with my network
bandwidth and I can copy files from/to the computer to/from the
Android device using ftp (using File Expert Application) at
16-24Mbps.
(I get the live transfer bandwidth by looking at the software running
at my computer which is monitoring my computer's network traffic.)

I used the same mp4 test video encoded at different bitrate.
The resolution of the streaming video does not matter because I can
reproduce this using a 720x480 video as well.
All the Android devices I have tested suffer the same problem.
The Android STB suffers from this problem when video bitrate exceeds
about 10Mbps.
7" Samsung Galaxy Tab suffers from this problem when video bitrate is
at or exceeds 6Mbps.
Nexus S suffers from this problem when video bitrate is at or exceeds
3Mbps.
>From these results, it is obvious that this is related to the Android
OS or the chip used.

If the same video is being played locally from the device's SDcard,
there is no such buffering problem, even at several times the bitrate
compared to when it is streamed.
We have no idea what is going on here and are seeking solutions.

I can perform more tests and report here if you can tell me what/how
to do the test as a non-programmer (I can't code).
However, from our test (or apparent in the video), it seems to me that
Android OS is dumping the buffer and then refilling it for no obvious
reason.

This only occurs when hardware decoding was used. Software decoding
does not have any buffering problems.
This means the problem is definitely not related to bandwidth and most
likely related to hardware decoding buffering.
For lower bitrate video, we do not see this problem at all.
We are also interested to hire developers who can fix this problem for
us, preferably at the application but fixing this at the OS level is
also fine..

Please e-mail me directly if you are capable of fixing this problem
and available for hire.
Otherwise, please provide your opinion on this issue.
(I have searched online but did not see anyone encountering this
problem. Maybe because no one have tried streaming such high bitrate
video yet..)

Thanks
Eric

If I have an application (app A) as a binary (i.e. normal apk as

to make it into a single apk, which will be distributed on Android

[android-developers] How to get the real device screen size

2012-01-20 Thread Eric Tseng
While I'm developing my app, I need to get my device physical size.
But the current functions like display.getSize() or heightPixels in
DisplayMetrics return the sizes which exclude the decorations like
status bar.
Like my device, I'd like to get 1280*800 not 1280*752(which excludes
status bar).
Is there anyone able to get the physical size of the device?

Thanks

[android-developers] Using contacts picker with filtering

2012-01-01 Thread Eric
Hi all,

I'm using the following code to launch the Contacts Picker:

Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK,
ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI);
//another display style:
//intent.setType
(android.provider.ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.CONTENT_TYPE);
startActivityForResult(intent, 1);

It works, but I would like to add filtering such that some contacts
are not shown. My desired display criterion is:

- Only show contacts that have Home phone, Work phone, Mobile phone or
Pager.

Contacts that have only Work Fax, E-mail, etc etc should not be
shown.

Is it possible to add such filtering? Thank you.

Regards,
Eric

[android-developers] How to read ONLY phone contacts, ignoring any SIM contacts, Google contacts, etc?

2011-12-29 Thread Eric
Hi all,

I've written an Android App using the ContactsContract API to read
contacts. I would like to read ONLY phone contacts, ignoring any SIM
contacts, Google contacts, WhatsApp contacts, etc etc.

My App enumerates all ContactsContract entries and finds the following
values:

RawContacts.ACCOUNT_NAME field can have values like "Phone contacts",
"xx...@gmail.com", etc.
RawContacts.ACCOUNT_TYPE field can have values like
"com.sonyericsson.localcontacts", "com.google", "com.whatsapp", etc

To get ONLY phone contacts, I suppose I can filter ACCOUNT_NAME with
the string literal "Phone contacts". However, is it a confirmed way?
Will this string literal ever change in future Android releases?

Similarly, how to read ONLY SIM contacts?

Thank you.

Eric

etc. even though a touch/drap/swype no longer does anything.

Is there a way to turn off that behavior *without* losing touch events
in JavaScript?
Or is there some way to control the rendering quality? (even if that
means forcing low quality all the time).

By specifying an OnTouchListener that returns always true, the
behavior goes away, but so do the touch events in JavaScript...

If the OnTouchListener returns true always, except for a few select
events (I'm only after taps), I can get the WebView to stay in low-
quality, but on multi-touch events, the WebView will just freeze.

Dismissing the events with preventDefaults in JavaScript results in
WebView freezes for some swypes or multi-touch combinations with the
infamous "Miss a drag as we are waiting for WebCore's response for
touch down".

Happens for 2.2 and 2.3.3.

[android-developers] Creating shortcuts to other Apps at a specified position on Home Screen

2011-12-19 Thread Eric
Hi all,

I'm developing an App that creates shortcuts to other Apps on Home
Screen, by using Intents and CREATE_SHORTCUT, etc etc. It works fine,
but I have no control over where the shortcuts are placed. Is there
any way to do that?

If specifying an exact position is impossible, how about specifying
the page number? (for example, on the 2nd page on a 5-page device)

Thanks.

Regards,
Eric

2011-12-15 Thread Eric Wong (hdmp4.com)
Price seems much higher than what a normal user would pay for..

An external battery or low power solar panel with battery would cost a
lot cheaper than this..

Re: [android-developers] Launch SoftKeyboard without view in Android

2011-11-23 Thread Eric Carman
I use this in a custom view. I must admit that it doesn't always seem to
work - as reported by customers - but I've not had it fail for me in
testing on a number of devices. I actually found this doing a lot of Google
searches myself, so credit/blame goes elsewhere. While you may not need to
do all of this exactly, perhaps it will get you a little closer.

public class MyView extends LinearLayout {

public View.OnLongClickListener mLongClickListener = new
View.OnLongClickListener() {

@Override
public boolean onLongClick(View v) {

softKeyboardResults rr = new softKeyboardResults();

Configuration config = MyView.this.getResources()
.getConfiguration();
if (config.hardKeyboardHidden == Configuration.HARDKEYBOARDHIDDEN_YES
|| config.hardKeyboardHidden == Configuration.HARDKEYBOARDHIDDEN_UNDEFINED)
{
InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager) MyView.this.mContext
.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE);
imm.showSoftInput(MyView.this,
InputMethodManager.SHOW_IMPLICIT, rr);
}
return false;
}

};

class softKeyboardResults extends ResultReceiver {

public softKeyboardResults() {
super(getHandler());
}

@Override
protected void onReceiveResult(int resultCode, Bundle resultData) {
super.onReceiveResult(resultCode, resultData);

switch (resultCode) {
case InputMethodManager.RESULT_HIDDEN:
case InputMethodManager.RESULT_SHOWN:
case InputMethodManager.RESULT_UNCHANGED_SHOWN:
break;
case InputMethodManager.RESULT_UNCHANGED_HIDDEN:
InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager) MyView.this.mContext
.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE);
imm.showSoftInput(MyView.this,
InputMethodManager.SHOW_FORCED);
break;
default:
break;
}
}

}
}

Re: [android-developers] Compound Component not getting onKeyDown onKeyListener events for Droid Bionic or X2

2011-11-07 Thread Eric Carman
Hello Dianne,

I don't have access to the physical devices, but the Motorola emulator was
very helpful. I agree with your thoughts that the multi-touch keyboard
might be at the root and I've posted to the Motorola forums with the sample
project that demonstrates the issue. Hopefully they will take a look and
make a determination as to where the issue actually lies.

But, on a more positive front, I took you advice and did some research on
the onCreateInputConnection. By adding the following to my component, the
problem has resolved itself. I got it to working on the Motorola emulator
and a couple of very helpful customers tested it on their physical devices.

@Override
public InputConnection onCreateInputConnection(EditorInfo outAttrs) {
return new BaseInputConnection(this, false) {
@Override
public boolean sendKeyEvent(KeyEvent event) {
return super.sendKeyEvent(event);
}
};
}

Thank you again for your advice and participation in this forum. I am AGAIN
extremely grateful for your help.

Best Regards,
Eric

Re: [android-developers] Compound Component not getting onKeyDown onKeyListener events for Droid Bionic or X2

2011-11-06 Thread Eric Carman
Hello Dianne,

Thank you for responding.

The custom compound component I am using wants single character entry. The
inclusion of TextViews in the component is a convenience and they will only
show a single character at a time. The user doesn't directly interact with
them, but with the overall component.

I don't want full interaction with the IME such that I get candidate text.
I just want to capture the character they are entering - which has worked
for all other devices I've tested - up through honeycomb. It's just these
couple of devices which are behaving differently. The app is a puzzle app
and the user interacts with it a character at a time.

Of course, the onKeyDown isn't even being called in this case, which is at
the root of the issue I'm trying to understand.

I don't know if this helps to explain it any better.

Thank you for the links. I will be looking into those very carefully. As
always, your help and participation is really appreciated.

Best Regards,
Eric

[android-developers] Re: Compound Component not getting onKeyDown onKeyListener events for Droid Bionic or X2

2011-11-06 Thread Eric Carman
I've created a sample project that demonstrates the issue. I've tried to
make it as simple as possible.

When executing the app, There will be a single instance of the compound
component which includes two letters, one over the other. (A/Q) For clarity
sake, the 'A' is Yellow and the 'Q' is gray. Long-press on the 'A' and you
will bring up the soft keyboard. As you select letters from the soft
keyboard, the letter 'A' should change.

My continued thanks for those who are reviewing this.

[android-developers] Re: Compound Component not getting onKeyDown onKeyListener events for Droid Bionic or X2

2011-11-06 Thread Eric Carman
Apparently, Motorola has a developer's program called MotoDev (free) which
gives you access to some potentially interesting tools. They have a Droid
Bionic SDK addon that can be set up as an emulator.

I installed it this morning and I can reproduce the issue that my customers
are seeing with this app. Interestingly, when I look at the logs, I'm
seeing the following in response to a keypress:

11-06 10:28:16.632: INFO/AwesomePlayer(42): reset_l
11-06 10:28:16.632: INFO/StagefrightPlayer(42):

java.io.IOException: Prepare failed.: status=0x1
11-06 10:28:19.872: ERROR/ManageApplications(265): update storage usage
while destroying

Perhaps this is an artifact of the emulator, but at least in this case it
would appear that all keyboard input is being redirected to a media play
which is unprepared to handle this.

And the weirdness continues. Any insights?
