[android-developers] Doc to PDF
Hi, Apologies for a total unrelated topic. But I am writing my docs in .doc (msword) and I dont have a PDF converter. If anyone has it and is kind enough for converting my docs to pdf, please reply me personally. BUMP. Cant we expect judges to just use -http-proxy flag ? I have not taken care of proxy issues in my app. Please let us know. (Android is beta anyway, so they can't require complete nifty outprogrammed solutions anyway - with the next sdk api release we would have to make migrations/changes anyway) Greetings, Joos --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Developers group. [android-developers] Re: Queries on ADC Submission
I would say go ahead, it atleast wouldnt hurt. If your unimplemented ideas are really cool, that may impress judges. So now my questions are 1) Will it be acceptable if we submit the application in as a functional prototype, means application will show the basic concept and functionality, but some features might be inactivated. In Product specification document we will mention all the Product features. 2) If Yes for question 1 then when can we submit the second full featured version of Application. 3) If i mention the application features in the document but not implemented or might be inactive in prototype, will i get the points for those inactive features in terms of innovation. For example if I Submit Google map application with a. Map Browsing, b. Current location Display c. Places marking, but features like e. Share location with a friend, f. Traffic g. friend location are in inactive in menu items. Will this kind of Entry be acceptable and application get the marks for inactive features also? Please guide us on this. I use the list view to display a constantly changing list of items from an SQL table. Using ListView lets me use the cursor adapters which keep the view in sync automatically. [android-developers] Re: Android Developers Challenge!
http://code.google.com/android/adc_faq.html#kinds I have to say, I never understood this particular phrase of the competition suggestions: Those poor people will never ever see an Android phone. How could it help them? On the contrary, I find this That's so much away from reality. I have myself lived on a 40$ cell phone spending less than 5$ monthly for my voice plans. The voice plans in my country are cheap and cell phones are so common. Having a cool phone is like a cult. For a poor farmer its like owning a car and they take pride in it. If android can make a phone more than just a way to communicate, Thats a great thing. However, if android is only going to run on iphone-like phones, yes not many people are going to use it. But I guess a reason to have an open and free operating system is to make phones affordable. regards, harsh particular statement a rather tasteless attempt to salve the conscience of those who have the money to buy an Android phone Or do I understand the statement wrongly? Some example how this could be meant or implemented could help to clarify this. How do other people understand this statement? [android-developers] Pooling of Objects in Android
Hi, Is there a generic android way of pooling objects ? I typically tend to reuse objects by avoiding threads and ensuring the access pattern is synchronous, but in some cases its totally unavoidable, for example in a Service implementation all methods I have to pass a bulky object as Message.obj from service to handler. class BulkyObject { } class MyBinder extends MyBinder.Stub { public void doOne() { BulkyObject b1 = new BulkyObject(); b1.setStuff(); sendMessageToHandler(Message.obtain(ACTION, b1)); } public void doTwo() { BulkyObject b2 = new BulkyObject(); b2.setStuff(); sendMessageToHandler(Message.obtain(ACTION, b2)); } } In this case a lot of new Bulkyobjects are wasted. Any ideas ? regards, harsh --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Developers group. [android-developers] Re: Handler Design Advice : Which is better ?
Thanks, also I couldnt find this in documentation anywhere, but should you call msg.recycle() at the end in handleMessage() or the guy who calls handleMessage does it automatically. regards, harsh On Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 10:26 PM, hackbod [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It is more efficient to create one Handler that takes care of a bunch of events, than separate inner class Runnables for each of them. But ideally you would do something like the above, a Handler that does multiple things.
