[android-developers] (x,y,z) co-ordinates from accelerometer and gyroscope

2013-02-03 Thread Pranav
Hi All,

I am trying to get the spatial co-ordinates of the device, i.e. (x,y,z)
co-ordinates. I get the acceleration values in the x, y and z direction,
but how do I convert these values to get the co-ordinates? Plus, if the
acceleration was from rotation alone, how would gyro be used in this case?
what would be the mathematical formula, or better, is there any library
that already does this?

[android-developers] Games and their data

2012-12-27 Thread Pranav
Hi,

I am starting on my first game on Android and would like to know about
where do games like Angry Birds, Temple Run, etc... store their data. For
high scores and similar data I guess SQLite is OK but what if I want to
store and fetch data constantly during game-play? SQLite and File IO are
out of picture because of their overhead. So where and how do games on
Android store their data, and yet make sure that the game-play is smooth.

[android-developers] ICS Update on Nexus S

2012-02-13 Thread Pranav Raulkar
Hi All,

Maybe this is repetative, but I have to ask this. When is ICS update for
Nexus S coming. Google postponed the updates after some issues, but whenI
look around I see news such as updates for Galaxy S2 and HTC devices, and
it is driving me crazy why ICS on Google flagship phone is getting delayed.
Also there are bo updates from Google about what the status is. I'm not
being able to test on a real ICS device. Any information about this would
be appreciated.

Thanks.

[android-developers] What is the best way to upgrade database version with loosing stored data in database?

2011-05-27 Thread Pranav
Hi all,

I have created a database file(myapp.db) using SQLite Browser and i am
accessing it from assets/ folder in my project. The application has
more than 25 tables and each table contains more than 20 fields. The
application sends request to the server and get the response in the
form of JSON string. All the data will be stored in the phone database
from the response string.

As per the above, i need to do.
Question: If i get change in database, which is the best way to
upgrade database version without loosing stored data?

The data will be stored permanently in the application and if there is
any change in database, i need to keep the data in application. If i
uninstall the application, the data will be lost.

Technically, when the application runs first time, the database schema
file(myapp.db) will be copied in the application. Whenever the
application run, it will check for the existing database which is
exists or not. If it is not, it will copy from the assets/ folder
otherwise it will not perform any action and simply ready to use it.

Please provide me any suggestions or guidance or example to do so.

Your help would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks.

Pranav

[android-developers] Re: Store contact name in emulator phonebook.

2010-02-19 Thread Pranav
Hi ivar,

Thanks for you reply with Suggestion. As you suggest me, i did it
properly but it's not storing contacts permanently in phonebook. When
i close emulator and start it again, it gives me only last record
which i have entered. I did those things in api version-4.

Today, i tried to add contacts using api version-56. I am able to
write contacts in phonebook as well as i can also ready it properly.
But somehow it's not display in the actual phonebook of emulator and
it's not giving me any error or warning while adding contacts. What is
missing in my code? Is there any authority or something... which i can
apply on my application or any code?

Here is my code which i have tried. Please have a look inside.
Note: I have tested this code using api version-56.

package com.android.TestContacts;

import android.app.Activity;
import android.content.ContentResolver;
import android.content.ContentUris;
import android.content.ContentValues;
import android.database.Cursor;
import android.net.Uri;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.provider.ContactsContract;
import android.provider.ContactsContract.Data;
import android.provider.ContactsContract.RawContacts;
import
android.provider.ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.StructuredName;
import android.widget.TextView;

public class TestContacts extends Activity {
/** Called when the activity is first created. */

ContentResolver contentResolver;
Cursor cursor;
String id, name;
TextView tv;

@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);

tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.txtView);

ContentValues values = new ContentValues();
values.put(RawContacts.ACCOUNT_TYPE, );
values.put(RawContacts.ACCOUNT_NAME, );
Uri rawContactUri =
getContentResolver().insert(RawContacts.CONTENT_URI, values);
long rawContactId = ContentUris.parseId(rawContactUri);

values.clear();
values.put(Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID, rawContactId);
values.put(Data.MIMETYPE, StructuredName.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE);
values.put(StructuredName.DISPLAY_NAME, Misha);
getContentResolver().insert(Data.CONTENT_URI, values);

contentResolver = getContentResolver();
cursor =
contentResolver.query(ContactsContract.Data.CONTENT_URI, null, null,
null, null);
if (cursor.getCount()  0) {
while (cursor.moveToNext()) {
String id =
cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.Data._ID));
System.out.println(ID: +id);

String name =
cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.Data.DISPLAY_NAME));
System.out.println(Name: +name);
tv.append(ID: +id+ +Name: +name+\n);
}
}
}
}
In short, the contacts hasn't displayed in the actual phonebook of
emulator. Can anybody give me idea regarding my problem? How to
resolve this issue? Please give me advice to resolve this issue.

Thanks.

Regards,
_
Pranav

[android-developers] Store contact name in emulator phonebook.

2010-02-18 Thread Pranav
Hi all,

I am able to retrieve contact name from emulator phonebook using the
above code:

public  class TestContacts extends  Activity {
/** Called when the activity is first created. */

 ContentResolver contentResolver;
 Cursor cursor;
 String id, name;
 TextView tv;

@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);

tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.txtView);

contentResolver = getContentResolver();
cursor =
contentResolver.query(ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI, null,
null, null, null);
if (cursor.getCount()  0) {
  while (cursor.moveToNext()) {
   String id =
cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.Contacts._ID));
   System.out.println(ID: +id);

   String name =
cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.Contacts.DISPLAY_NAME));
   System.out.println(Name: +name);
   tv.append(ID: +id+ +Name: +name+\n);
  }
}
}
}
___

But i want to add contact name in emulator phonebook and i tried it
using the below code but anyhow i could not able to see the contact
name in phonebook where as i also trace out something from logcat.
___
...
ContentValues values = new ContentValues();
values.put(People.NAME, Test);
Uri uri = getContentResolver().insert(People.CONTENT_URI, values);
if(uri == null){
 System.out.println(NEW URI);
}
...
___

Infect, when i run the application for adding the new contact, i found
this from the logcat:

___

After that i had also tried to run the application for retrieving the
contacts from phonebook. It works fine and also giving perfect result
but somehow it doesn't show me the contact which i have added named
Test that i could not find in phonebook.

What is really happening inside, i don't know. Can anybody give me any

You need not to unzip the commons-io-1.4-bin.zip. You need to just put

Just follow the below steps to add zip or jar files to your project.

1) Do RIGHT CLICK on your particular project
2) Java Build Path (Select from the left panel)
3) Libraries (Select from the Tab)
4) Add Externals JARs...(Click on the Button).

Hope this helps to you.
