[android-developers] Android testing

2012-05-30 Thread Shane Isbell
Hi all, I'm starting work on an android integration testing framework,
called Huntsville:

https://github.com/sisbell/huntsville

Currently, the project creates a DeviceAssert (extending JUnit Assert)
class that asserts things like the existence of files on device,
environmental properties on the device, logs, whether package are
installed, etc.

I've just started the project, so I wanted to see if other developers would
have a similar need and to get feedback. I've researched and haven't found
anything with this specific focus. If there are android testing projects
with an existing community that would be a good fit for this type of
project, I'd also like to see about moving over development to that project.

Thanks,
Shane

Sorry, I just don't see your point.. Your app is already going to be
"tested" by thousands of uses running it in the long run, these services
simply provide services that will show what you will see "in real life."

If you're worried about your app "getting out there" and the tester ripping
it off, that's a valid concern. My answer to this is to go with a trusted
tester who has a reputation that would be destroyed by them hurting you
like this..

[android-developers] Android testing: Emulator vs G1

2009-04-23 Thread HowlettAndroid

Hello,

Hope you lot can help. I'm currently testing my application in
the SDK emulator, Great everything works perfectly. The next step was
to try the same application loaded on to the G1. After loading the
app, I'm getting some strange behaviour. Some Activities seem to be
called by intents multiple times, when in the emulator they only
appear once. Looking at the code I can't see what could be wrong. Any
help would be great.

Thanks

[android-developers] Android Testing with TMobile G1

2009-03-09 Thread Mike Pastor

Fellow Developers,

Has anyone experienced problems with using the TMobile G1 (usa) as a
serious Android testing machine? Is it a seamless task to load the G1
phone from your development PC through the USB connection?

Are there any special "Developer Mode" settings that have to be made
on the consumer TMobile G1? Does TMobile give us official "root"
access?

Does the GPS feature on the TMobile G1 work well? Can the positioning
and directions (with voice?) be similar to a Garmin Navigation unit?

Thanks and Cheers,

Mike Pastor

[android-developers] Android testing with android library

2011-05-23 Thread Tancho
Hello,
I seem to have a problem with defining a test for a service I am
developing
the Project where the service is located has a project dependency
towards a Commons project which is an Android Library.
the code is running fine when running as an android app
however when running tests the tests fail stating
BackendTest] Test run failed: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
which fails because it cannot resolve a class located in the commons
eclipse has no problems resolving the class however all my tests fail
due to unresolved dependencies
the commons project is included both in the backend project and the
test project
however this did not bring to any results..
any ideas?

Re: [android-developers] Android testing with android library

2011-05-23 Thread Mark Murphy
What the docs suggest, and what I have had success with, is to have
three total projects:

-- The library project
-- Some app based on the library project (e.g., demo/)
-- The test project set to "test" the app, not the library (e.g., tests/)

Obviously, you do not need to write test cases for the sample app
itself if you do not want to. But an Android test project cannot
directly test an Android library project, as the thing-being-tested
needs to result in an APK, and an Android library project does not.

[android-developers] Android testing: can't programmatically press buttons, etc...

2010-08-05 Thread Fabrizio Giudici

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello.

I'm trying to write some functional tests for my application that
include interactions with the UI. As part of the test I'm trying to
press a button programmatically. I've both tried
TouchUtils.clickView() and Robotium (third party's utility for this
task). But buttons don't get pressed.
With Robotium, whose sources are simpler to understand, I can track my
code until it properly generates ACTION_DOWN and ACTION_UP events. At
the same time, I've tried a Robotium sample together with a small
sample application, and it works perfectly. So, Robotium works and my
Android SDK is ok - it must be something specific of my application.
What should I check? Is it possible to track with the system logger
events sent by mean of Instrumentation.sendPointerSync()?

For the record, I've tried the sample application with Eclipse, while
I'm developing mine with NetBeans + Maven. But I don't think this
makes a difference. Also, of course my application perfectly works if
I manually test it.

Thanks.
