[android-developers] G1

2011-08-29 Thread bob
i have a G1,and the sim was put in the 1.5 mb200 cliq,i had activation
until 04/10/2009,when the price of two cliq's hit at 975.00,for my
bill.but the point is the G1 with wifi will not let me past the sign
in screen ,even though i have an active google account,so what is up
with that? also the mb200 is outdated before it has a chance to
upgrade, why?if u have an android phone,it should be able to run any
android programs, and not have to buy a new version like
1.6,2.0,2.2,2.3,3.0
it should be able to run what android puts out,not just one phone for
this version,and oops,buy another phone for this version,and dam,got
to get another phone for this version,to me all phone makers, and
developers r money hungry, and u can bet that ur phones run them
all,without buying a new one...if u have a 1.5 cupcake,u cant get
3d,or play the games for the 2.0,,2.2,,or the 3.0,,so my challenge to
u is,let all android phones do the same no matter what the platform
is,,but u cant do that can u,its all about the almighty dollar...u
might consider making a phone that is strictly sattilite ,as the
economy falls,so does the almighty dollar, then u will be stuck with a
pile of droids ,domino droid well thats my input on the market, and the
lack of vision on one platform..i bet the 3.0 can do all the things
the G1,and 1.5 mb200 can do huh?

More than likely your G1 upgraded to 1.6 quite some time ago (some time last
summer I think). The latest update was not a firmware upgrade, it was a
patch to fix issues with the phone apparently. Do a google search for "G1
update" or something and you'll find what I did about this latest release.

Nope. I have the default email app using two IMAP accounts and they're both
working fine for me.

[android-developers] G1 Upgrade to 1.6???

2010-03-11 Thread Rud
Somewhat off topic since it isn't development per se, but this group
is most knowledgeable on Android.

Yesterday my G1 upgraded to version 1.6. Now I am pretty sure that it
did this last fall when the official release occurred.

Did anyone else see this upgrade?

I may be having problems with my regular email now. I use IMAP and it
is having a very hard time retrieving messages. I keep getting
"Connection errror" messages.

Anyone else seeing this?

[android-developers] G1 microphone being Overdriven when trying to use AudioRecord

2010-01-19 Thread Tanmay
Hey guys,
By following an entry on Hashirs Blog on AudioRecorder Class (http://
hashspeaks.wordpress.com/2009/06/18/audiorecord-part-4/), I have made
a project which should be recording PCM audio for 20 seconds and
storing it in a file on the SD Card.
It seems to be doing its job, executing everything properly, but when
I listen to the audio recorded by my android G1 phone on a raw audio
player, I find that the Microphone has been really over sensitive and
I mainly listen to noise when I am speaking but only from a distance
does it record some audio.

Could someone please test this on their G1, by loading up this simple
program on their Device, recording 20 seconds audio and when the
HelloWorld text appears on the screen..the file can be taken out of
the SD card and played in any simple player which can play raw PCM
data.

Just want to know if this problem is something to do with my project/
phone or I am missing a step...
Or if someone has a working code to do this, would like to have a
look and learn/

Would appreciate any help with this

Cheers
Tanmay

Re: [android-developers] G1 Wifi issue

2009-11-24 Thread Julius Spencer
Hi,

I have looked in the source found online and it looks like the config
in the following code is not being set.
WifiConfiguration config = findConfiguredNetwork(state);

private WifiConfiguration findConfiguredNetwork(AccessPointState
state) {
final List wifiConfigs = getConfiguredNetworks();
for (int i = wifiConfigs.size() - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
final WifiConfiguration wifiConfig = wifiConfigs.get(i);
if (state.matchesWifiConfiguration(wifiConfig) >=
AccessPointState.MATCH_WEAK) {
return wifiConfig;
}
}
return null;
}

So I guess the following isn't working:
if (state.matchesWifiConfiguration(wifiConfig) >=
AccessPointState.MATCH_WEAK) {
return wifiConfig;
}

Does anyone know who wrote this? It looks like it's going through the
available access points list in reverse, but after that I'm kinda lost.

Regards,
Julius.

[android-developers] G1 Wifi issue

2009-11-17 Thread julius
Hi,

I continue to have issues with the Wifi on my G1 (running 1.6). When I
hook it up to Eclipse I see the following errors when I try to connect
to an access point:

11-18 08:20:10.204: ERROR/SettingsWifiLayer(6434): Config is still
null, even after attempting to add it.
11-18 08:20:10.204: ERROR/SettingsWifiLayer(6434): Unable to connect
to the network

This occurs with all (6) access points that I use at different times.
Almost every access point is a different brand or model.

Has anyone seen this issue?

Regards,
Julius.

[android-developers] G1 phone with no SIM

2009-10-14 Thread pro

I just got a G1 HTC with no SIM. I don't intend to have one inserted
there. When I powered up, it says NO SIM, and emergency call. But Menu
or Back button does not go to menu. So essentially I can't get to the
development settings, stay awake kind of options. Natually since the
debugging setting is not set on the device, plugging the USB cable
does not give any new network interface or any other device plug-in.

How do I get to the settings app installed on it?

[android-developers] G1 as Dev Phone replacement

2009-08-24 Thread Dave Smith

Hi all -

I'm needing to get my hands on an unlocked device for some development
work, and I noticed that the ADP1 is supposedly out of stock until
(maybe) early next month. I know someone who is wanting to get rid of
their T-Mobile G1, and I'm curious if anyone out there has had
experience taking the G1 and doing all the necessary unlocking
procedures to the SIM and hardware to allow it to be used an updated
just like the ADP1? Is it possible to unlock the phone to the point
where one can load the ROM updates HTC provides for the ADP1 as new
Android versions come out?

I would like to consider myself lucky and able to get one of the few
coming available soon, but I need a backup plan as well.

Thanks in advance!

[android-developers] G1 system UIDs inconsistent, none of the apps work, help.

2009-07-02 Thread melipaisa

About two days ago my phone started receiving and making all calls as
'unknown'. I decided to wait to go straight to a T-mobile retail
store. But today July 2 at 10 am. none of the apps where working, the
browser, text messages, none.
the phone became crazy I started to receive error messages on the
screen. Finally decided to restart the phone, when it turned on again
i received the message" g1 system UIDs inconsistent, you need to wipe
your data partition or you device will be unstable." it had the I'm
feeling lucky button, when pressed, the phone reset itself, most of my
apps where gone, but it did not help or fixed anything.
Im desperate I love my G1 phone i bought it the next day of the
release, it worked great, got my 1.5 update worked fine, 'till now.
the problem is where to go for help.
If it is an OS problem is it google's fault or T-mobile?
I have a flex pay account when i bought the phone. I bought it full
price almost $ 500 so to get a new G1 since i am a student i cant
afford it. I feel very sad not being able to use it or fix the
problem now all my data is gone all my apps, :( i cant even go on the

[android-developers] G1 Firmware in ADP1?

Hello,

my friend has got himself Android Developer Phone 1. But he is not
developer, he just wants to use it as a normal phone and he doesn't
want any hassle with firmware updating (and he's not interested in
root access etc.). If I flash the official U.S. G1 firmware into his
phone, will he then receive normal OTA firmware upgrades, or will his
phone still report as ADP1 and will he have to update manually?

[android-developers] G1 ManageApplications - the size of the application data does not change when ...

2009-05-28 Thread jade

When we delete items from our sqlite database in our Android app, the
size of the data under our application (under the G1's settings ->
Applications -> Manage applications) doesn't change. It changes when
we add data but not when we delete it.

We have a debugging mode where we query the sqlite database and from
that data I can tell that the records have been deleted.

Is anyone else having this problem? I've also looked at this post:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/47dc864c667b6dab/cf8e72c7349c2a88?lnk=gst&q=G1+storage#

we only have 18 unlinked records so I don't think this is the problem.

[android-developers] G1

2009-04-30 Thread petunio

Hi

I am trying to test my app on a G1 (it works on the emulator), but it

I am trying to debug it, but all I see on the G1 screen is a message

I also put:
android:debuggable="true"

Note that the G1 is visible when I plug it to my Windows Vista

Any Mac-User with a solution for this?

[android-developers] G1 Bluetooth stack

2009-01-20 Thread Will

I know that T-Mobile's G1 running Android supports multiple bluetooth
profiles, however, does the G1 currently support multiple devices to
be connected and utilized at the same time?

Does/Will the Android SDK support the use of bluetooth devices in this
manor or are we bound to many profiles but only one active?

Scenario: Both my wife and I have G1 phones, and both are usually
found inside the Golla pouches that we purchased but while driving
those pouches become quite the bother when you want to know who calls
before you answer. So my solution was to think, bracelet/watch &
headset combo and now we have the phone still in the pouch and my eyes
still on the road.

[android-developers] G1 developer phone outside the first countries list

2009-01-18 Thread Tudor Tihan

Hi,

I was wondering, would the G1 unlocked phone work in a country that
isn't on the approved delivery list?
I live in Romania and the closest country where I can get the G1 sent
to is Hungary.
Would the phone refuse to work with a Romanian operator SIM from lets
say Orange? (as in access market place, place phone calls).

I really think Google would benefit a lot from the development
community in Romania which is very strong (we are a top outsourcing/
offshore destination after all).

[android-developers] G1 Camera Specs

2009-01-09 Thread Wanted unique nickname

Hello,
Does anyone know if the G1 camera has any specification such as
focal length or f-number? When I take a picture with my digital
camera the jpeg images come with EXIF data that gives me details about
the camera properties. The camera properties embedded in photos taken
with the G1 do not show focal length, f-number, exposure time, etc.

If its impossible to get this information programmatically, either
through the Android API or the Android OS, does anyone know if
detailed specs are publicly available?

Otherwise, I'm probably going to have to try measuring it.

[android-developers] G1 & BT headset call button

2008-12-21 Thread Raymond Rodgers

I just signed up for service with T-mobile and got a G1 yesterday, and
right away paired it with my Jabra BT5020 which I've had for about a
year now. Right off the bat I discovered that using the headset's call
button does not trigger the voice dialing/command feature of the
G1/Android. As it wasn't urgent, I dismissed that, and did a bit of
research later. It appears that this functionality is hit and miss with
various bluetooth headsets; some messages on various forums report that
some headsets work perfectly while others don't, some say that it just
doesn't work with Jabra headsets, and still others claim that it's only
Jabra headsets that have the problem.

I contacted Jabra's tech support and they suggested resetting the phone
(by removing the battery for 10 seconds and then powering it back up)
and headset (by charging it for 5-10 seconds), but this didn't solve the
problem either. I also sent an email to T-mobile's tech support, but I
haven't gotten a response back yet. I know it's not my headset itself
that is the problem because it still works fine with my previous phone
(LG enV/VX9900).

Is this an Android compatibility issue? If so, is this something that's
being worked on?

Thanks,
Raymond

P.S. JBQ & Diane if you read this: Fancy meeting you here! ;-) Tell
Marco I say "Hi."

[android-developers] G1 vs. Fedora Core (6+) vs. udev

2008-12-18 Thread enervatron

Hi all,

I've finally figured out what was going wrong with the udev stuff on
Fedora Core 6
setting up the USB device for adb. The advice for Ubuntu may be correct, but it
doesn't work out of the box with Fedora Core 6 and probably higher. The reason
is because Fedora Core 6 has a rule in /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules
for all new
USB devices which sets modes, etc. The advice for Ubuntu is to make a
file called
50-android.rules and place it in the rules directory. Note that just
like init(1), udev
scans the rules directory in sorted order which means that 50-android
is executed
*before* 50-udev.

The net effect here is that 50-udev sets the permissions on the new device back
to 0644 which is to say, no write permission for userland adb and the subsequent
non-love (running adb's server as root ought to work). Here's the simple fix:

1) create a file to 51-android.rules in rules.d
2) put this incantation in it:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device",SYSFS{idVendor}=="0bb4",SYMLINK+="android_adb",MODE="0666"

3) as root after you've created the file, kick udev with: udevcontrol
reload_rules
4) plug in the device and enjoy!

It would be *really* nice if this or something like it found its way
back into the
documentation ::wink wink:: In fact, the advice for Ubuntu Dapper is the
exact same rule as Fedora, so most likely just changing the docs to create
51-android will work for both Fedora and Ubuntu Dapper.

Mike

[android-developers] G1 bluetooth support doubts

2008-12-16 Thread androidu...@gmail.com

Hi ,

A BIG warm greeting to all of you there as I am set to compose my
first mail/query to this group

I am new to Android and my scope of work is Bluetooth applications
using Android Application Framework. I found that Android Application
Framework does not support any BT APIS .

After a lot of digging through the various Android communities , I
could conclude that Google removed the Bluetooth API support (http://
android-developers.blogspot.com/2008/08/some-information-on-apis-
removed-in.html)

But I am wondering how G1 was able to come up with BT although it only
supports
a)headset
b)hands free

I am not able to understand how G1 has BT support although there is no
BT Application Framework supported in the SDK ?

Thanks in advance
AndUzer

[android-developers] G1 and PS3 question

I plan on putting 4-6 gigs of music on my G1. I then want to stream

the best way to do this would be to use the bluetooth/ wi-fi abilities

is does an application(s) or software exist to make this happen?

[android-developers] G1 detected as 'offline' by Eclipse plugin

Guys,

I can debug my app just fine with the emulator.

However, when I connect my G1 device to desktop via USB and attempt
to run/debug my app on it (after following "Developing on Device
Hardware" steps in android docs) I fail.

The error msg I get: "Failed to upload MyAppName.apk on device
'HT841LC09904': Unable to open sync connection!"

Running "adb devices" displays the G1 device is as 'offline'.

The G1 relevant configuration values are:
 - Wireless controls>Airplain mode==true
 - SDCard >Use for USB storage==false
 - Application>Unknown Resources==true
 - Development>USB Debugging==true

Also - application section of manifest app contains:
android:debuggable="true"

Any helpful idea will be welcomed.

[android-developers] G1 Calendar app on Emulator/SDK?

2008-11-26 Thread ams163

Hello,

We are trying to use the Calendar App/API on the emulator/latest SDK,
but people here are saying that the app is not available in the SDK.
Is there any way we can get it from source (android source) and add it
to the SDK ourselves?

We want to try and avoid having to download the full android source
code, and then developing against it in Ubuntu/Linux (we currently use
windows xp for all our development).

If there is no way to get this app in the SDK/emulator, then we'd like
to know if we can indeed develop against the android source code/
platform in Eclipse. We are currently just using the windows android
sdk and eclipse android plugin to develop android applications. Would
eclipse also integrate well with the source version of android ?
(automatic code signing using debug certificate, automatic build,
automatic deployment, emulator launch, debugging etc)

Would appreciate any help, thanks.

[android-developers] G1 activation problem

2008-11-24 Thread Alex B

Has anyone been able to surf the web from their G1 *strictly* via Wi-
Fi?

... how about, the wifi network created by their Mac laptop's Airport
Internet Sharing?

Has anyone in Canada been able to successfully connect via Fido (or
any other carrier)?

I am a developer in Canada -- and we don't have T-Mobile here -- so I
purchased an unlocked G1 on eBay (CAN$820 or US$665 for the device,
unlocking, shipping, and taxes). The phone arrived and worked as
expected according to a few minutes of superficial use without
networking being involved. The phone was unlocked by the eBay seller,
and the notification bar had a message saying that there was a problem
syncing (to the eBay seller's gmail account). Naturally there was a
problem syncing, because no networking was turned on. I decided to try
to figure out how to input my own Google account username and
password, and get the G1 synced accordingly. However, there was no
apparent way to do this. My next thought was to at least try to
establishing network connectivity, after all, the G1 is has wifi
support (i.e. I should not need a carrier's data plan -- just a wifi
connection).

My plan was to connect to my own wifi network (using Mac OS X's
Airport "Internet Sharing"). This is where the problems started. First
of all, the name of my network (in the list of wifi networks) was
appearing and disappearing, yet I was right in front of the laptop
serving wifi. Moving away, to other parts of the apartment, did not
alter this flaky behaviour. Just from that experience, I was starting
to feel uneasy, as I've never had a problem with other devices sharing
my wifi signal. The connection would get established periodically,
with a private IP address obtained! I then clicked "home", opened the
"browser", and couldn't load the google home page. Two hours of
efforts were futile -- the G1 simply would not load google.com (or any
website for that matter). Note that my other laptop had no problem
connecting to the same wifi network.

At last I was frustrated enough that I thought that perhaps there was
some setting that I was not aware of that was causing this issue. So I
found the "reset" option somewhere in the G1's "settings". A dialog
warned that all the data would be erased, but I didn't mind because I
hadn't loaded any data. Following a power cycle, the device showed an
animation of a box and a G1 being removed from within (presumably to
indicate that this is an "out of the box" state). I only ever got to
see this out-of-the-box animation that one time. From that point on, I
have been stuck in the following "activation" loop:

(1) A screen with the Android logo, "Welcome to T-Mobile G1" and
"Touch the android to begin." Touching the android shows a screen
titled "Setting up your T-Mobile G1", and then the on-screen buttons
are "Emergency dial" and "Next". The physical "menu" button brings up
one item: "APN settings".

(2) Touching "Next" brings up a screen with two buttons -- one to
"Create" a Google account, and one to "Sign in". Again, the physical
"menu" button brings up only the APN settings item. As I have a Google
account, I touch "Next", which brings me to a sign-in screen.

(3) The sign-in screen has two text fields: username and password. The
on-screen buttons are "Back" and "Sign in". The physical "menu"
buttons still only has APN settings.

(4) When I attempt to sign in, the screen says "Signing in...", "Your
phone is communicating with Google servers and setting up your
account. This may take up to five minutes." There is a kind-of
progress bar and the process times out within a minute.

(5) The screen following the time out says "There is a problem
communicating with the Google servers.", "This could be a temporary
problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data services. If
it continues, call Customer Care." There is a "Try again" button, and
the usual "APN settings" menu.

(6) The "APN settings" menu has a list of APNs, and a submenu "New
APN".

That's it. That's my loop. I cannot get to the "HOME" screen. I've
talked to the following support lines:

- Fido technical support
- Rogers support
- T-Mobile's technical support
- HTC
- Google (yes, I've even called Google, and I was told that they don't
support the G1, and that T-Mobile wanted to handle the support)

I've even gone to Fido and Rogers stores, and used their in-store data-
provisioned SIM cards to no avail.

I have also eased the APN process by deleting all the T-Mobile APNs,
and just working on one Fido APN setting at a time. Why you ask?
Because not even Fido has a definitive answer for what their settings
are. Try surfing the web for this info, and you will see a variety of
settings. The only way for me to be somewhat sure that I have the
right settings is to have deleted all the APNs, and then adjusted one
variable at a time -- my indicator of success is the GPRS/EDGE
"service connected, data flowing" icons. When I have a good setting,
those icons show up, and once in a while light up th

[android-developers] G1 linux

2008-11-18 Thread Rui Freitas

Hi,

I wanna now if is it possible to program for the G1 like a linux

[android-developers] G1- No animated transitions between activies

2008-11-13 Thread ksmith44

On the Android Emulator, as you launch a new activity, the old
activity slides to the left and the new activity slides in from the
right. Similarly, when you hit the back button you get the opposite
effect.

This does not seem to happen on the G1. Both launching an activity
(or a task/application for that matter) and the back button simply
replace the previous screen. Is there any way to get the transition
behavior on the G1?

I know you can apply an animation to a specific activity (or more
accurately, you can apply a LayoutAnimation to the outermost layout
view of an activities UI) which will make it slide in from the right.
You can also apply animations to layouts to emulate sliding out to the
left and probably sliding back in from the left in an onResume to
imitate the back button. However, I have not found a way to tie the
two animations together so that the two views move in concert. It
does not look nearly as nice to have one slide off, the screen go
white for a flash, and then the new one slide on.

Any help?

[android-developers] G1 Firmware Builds only For Developers? my Demand to Google / HTC / TMobile

2008-11-12 Thread Hetal Patel

I think being a Open Source Code and Openness in Architecture, API
Google Should Ship Different Firmware for Developers, Software
Builders, Codec Programmer etc.

Better for Google / T-Mobile / HTC

   1. They can restrict Developer Device to get Back Normal Shipped
Firmware.
   2. Developer Device Activation Method can be Introduced so Once you
Activate that IMEI for Developer Edition you could get only Limited
Warranty from HTC for that IMEI.
   3. Once you load Different Firmware, company may not allow you to
Flash Normal Shipped / OTA Firmware signed by Different Signature.
   4. Developer Edition of Firmware can have Test Key or Developer Key
based Recovery Partition. But can not Erased the way we did it before.
   5. Developer firmware must be only available via SDCard Method
   6. No OTA should be given except for some killbits Urgency.
   7. Their should be Disclaimer and Agreement for Warranty Issue

Better for Developers

   1. Rather then Fighting for root this could be Straight Access to
Device
   2. No More Hacking and Exploits needed.
   3. Building Firmware, API, Services, Codes which need Root Access
can be Tested with Device rather then Emulator.
   4. Customizing OS and using it for Self and Distributing it to user
who can take risk may get easy Access to Mods.
   5. Google Should Protect Recovery Image and Boot Image from being
Flashed this will reduce Bricking Issue.

[android-developers] G1 camera preview issues uncovered

2008-11-12 Thread blindfold

FYI. Two new T-Mobile G1 camera preview related issue reports have
been submitted as issue 1270
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1270
and issue 1271 http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1271

One is about the observation that setPreviewSize() gets asynchronously
overruled on the G1, while the other is about the observation that the
YCbCr_422_SP preview encoding is different on emulator versus G1.

[android-developers] G1 treated as disk... All the time

2008-11-03 Thread Alvin Yates

I downloaded the driver for the G1 and attached it to my PC so I could
resume development after my MacBook decided off was better than on.
Was test driving the phone via USB and attached it as a storage
device.

The problem now is, Windows won't stop treating the phone as a USB
drive, even when the USB option is unchecked (It treats it as having
no capacity).

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a way to fix it?

[android-developers] G1 Maps accuracy display

2008-10-31 Thread Greg

Hi all,

Does anyone have any info or ideas on how the built in Maps
application determines accuracy? When it first starts you can see a
blue circle around your position whose radius appears to be indicating
accuracy, i.e. a wide blue circle means not a very good lock. As more
satellites come on board the circle gets smaller.

The only info in the status change bundle for the gps provider is the
number of satellites it is tracking. Is this all the Maps app is
using to draw that circle or is there some other more granular
accuracy (in feet or meters) that is able to be obtained?

I'm developing an app where distance is being computed and while the
GPS is being locked in initially the position changes around. I may
record 300-400 feet of distance travelled while standing perfectly
still as it comes online. Trying to figure out the best way to not
start actual tracking until the GPS is effectively 'dialed in'. Any
ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

[android-developers] G1 camera capture crashage

2008-10-29 Thread Jason Proctor

hi,

i have an application which opens a Camera and then installs itself
as a preview frame handler. it then logs frames to the disk, gzipping
them on the way so as to keep the file size manageable. this
application works like a charm under the emulator.

however on the G1, all shit breaks loose. the VM runs out of memory
almost immediately and, after a few flailing attempts to deal with
the situation, crashes with a SIGSEGV.

in order to take my code out of the equation, i installed the
ApiDemos application on the G1 and messed around with its Camera
Preview stuff. no problem there. so then i installed some
frame-writing code in a preview handler and got the same results as
my application. i took the gzipping out, logging the frames raw, and
the VM survived quite a bit longer before dying.

conclusion 1: something in the hardware Camera code really doesn't
like clients doing stuff in the preview frame handler, and
catastrophe results.

conclusion 2: i am starting to suspect a conspiracy which is trying
to prevent anyone capturing video on Android ;-)

i'll probably log this as a bug tonight, with accompanying crash logs etc.

thanks,
j

[android-developers] G1 still image capture question

2008-10-29 Thread blindfold

Do the hard-coded SDK 1.0 r1 kCannedJpegWidth (=213) and
kCannedJpegHeight (=350) restrictions at

http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/frameworks/base.git;a=blob;f=camera/libcameraservice/CannedJpeg.h
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/frameworks/base.git;a=blob;f=camera/libcameraservice/CameraHardwareStub.cpp

for a still image size of 213 x 350 also apply to the T-Mobile G1
camera? So, can one only take 213 x 350 still image snapshots with the
G1? Or can one (only) apply G1's native 2048 x 1536 for its 3.2
megapixel camera? In other words, what works with the G1? I have to
know what to hard-code for lack of camera querying methods in Android.

(Strictly speaking one can fool the check "if (w != kCannedJpegWidth
&& h != kCannedJpegHeight)" a little bit by changing one of the two
image dimensions, e.g., using 400 x 350, but in the emulator this does
not take effect because the captured image is built-in.)

Thanks

[android-developers] G1 Bug: Google Imported & Primary Phones

2008-10-27 Thread Anm

I just noticed that contacts imported from GMail do not include a
default/primary flag on any of the associated phone numbers. This
seems counter to the android framework, since when I input a phone
number manually on the phone, a phone number is automatically flagged
as the primary phone number.

Can anyone suggest any work-arounds, from the perspective of
Contacts.Phone client that is relying on the primary flag for some
functionality? I want to include at least one phone number for every
contact in a query, preferring the primary if available. At this
point, I'm guessing I'm going to have to manually filter a Cursor that
does not include the "isprimary==1" selection.

[android-developers] G1 GPS receiver turn on and turn off

2008-10-27 Thread hdk

Hi,

I would like to control the GPS receiver via software. Simple turn on
and turn off.

Has anyone done it? I imagine that T-Mobile/HTC would have to share G1
specific SDK to accomplish that, am I right?

[android-developers] g1 keyboard missing up/down/left/right keys?

2008-10-27 Thread g1ster

I set up my g1 phone to test the Snake sample came with the Android
SDK. The application requires up/down/left/right keys, but they not
available on the g1 keyboard - did I miss it?

I changed the code to use I, K, J, L keys instead. It works when I
have the device connect to to the computer with Eclipse running. But
the app stops working when I unplugged it from the computer. Is it
because I didn't do a release build? How?

I know, two questions! Thanks!!!

[android-developers] G1 download stats

2008-10-23 Thread Al Sutton

Yesterday AndAppStore.com saw a doubling of direct-to-phone downloads
from G1s' which means we are seeing more than one in three downloads are
being done directly to the users G1.

So if you're only making .zips available, or you aren't using the right
MIME type, it might be worth updating your downloads.

[android-developers] G1 Review by PC World

2008-10-15 Thread David C

Apologies if this is considered off topic, but it seems relevant. PC
World review the G1 here:

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/152339/the_g1_is_no_iphone_but_android_has_promise.html

My summary of the review is this:

 - Hardware doesn't match up to the I-phone but the software is nice.
 - Open platform holds promise but decent apps are limited due to the
lack of an Android "store".
 - Camera really sucks (way too dark).
 - "Long-click" concept is good
 - Has perhaps too much of a "google-centric" feel

[android-developers] G1 for testing outside US

2008-09-25 Thread Muthu Ramadoss

Hi,

How can non US developers get a G1 for testing? We can buy it for sure
if its available.

If we can't get a device for testing, can we just test in emulator?
How are the Android developers worldwide handling this issue?

Ideas, anyone?

[android-developers] G1 for developers in Europe

2008-09-24 Thread Octavian Voicu

Hello,

I was wondering, is there any way for developers in Europe to get
their hands on T-Mobile G1 in October?
I understand G1 will be available in UK in November, but other
countries have to wait until 2009.

There should be a special offer for developers so that they can buy it
online from anywhere in the world with no subscription, so they can
test their apps on the real thing. That would really speed things up
and make Android better much faster.

Thanks,

Octavian
