The dev version is not sim locked or code locked. You can use it on any
carrier, flash your own OS builds and run unsigned apps.

First off, they state on the site that they ship within 3 business
days... that means that next day air could take up to 4 days!

Also, BrightStar Corporation is a large international distributer.

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2009-01-01 Thread t...@huppi.com

Just a data-point from someone in CA, USA.

I ordered around 12/15 with 'fedex overnight' option thinking maybe I
could get it before my vacation on the 19th. No dice. Brightstar
managed to bill me three times and get my credit card blocked while I
was traveling, but they removed the extra charges themselves.

It is now the 30th and I have not received the phone. FedEx has had
it since the 19th. Apparently it was sent 'home delivery' and FedEx
does not try on Monday. Apparently they may be trucking around until
about 20:00 under 'home delivery' so there are still two hours left to
see if they come through, but I'm not holding my breath. If they do
get this far, I suspect that they will bounce off the locked office
door at the building where I work but we'll see.

Had I to do over again, I would not waste my money on 'overnight
delivery'. It appears to be a sick joke on both Brightstar and
FedEx's part.

2008-12-19 Thread Anton

I ordered mine on Dec. 11, but Brightstar didn't ship it out until the
15th.
With FedEx ground, I received it in California on the 19th.

I tracked it using the track by reference trick mentioned previously.
I too never received an e-mail with a tracking number. I was already
tracking it
when I received an e-mail stating that it was shipped.

Time to play!

I've ordered it on 12/9 and nothing so far. I've called the customer

track tool can't find anything with my order ID as reference.
It's sad because if the package doesn't arrive to the shipping address
until 18th morning then I have to cancel my order. :(

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-15 Thread Aaron

I also requested a refund because I paid for two day shipping, and
according to the FedEx tracking site it was shipped with "Home
Delivery", which is another word for ground shipping.
If it had been shipped as it was supposed to have been, I would have
had my ADP today! But, because of Brightstar's mistake, I won't have
it until tomorrow. :(

2008-12-15 Thread Yev

Ordered mine on 12/9still nothing. Brightstar rep says they have
no record of it, and fedex tracking with ref doesn't show it either.

Did anyone who ordered it on 12/9 received it yet?

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-15 Thread mtz

I was unsure too about the shipping of my phone and called at the
brightstar headquarter, 305 421-6000. Got forwarded twice and talked
to a lady from the "Android-Team" (or so) who advised me to send an
eMail to andr...@brightstarcorp.com with my order number. after
20hours they replied:

"I found your order and it will be processed shortly - to be shipped
out from 1 to 3 days - you should be receiving an email once it does
ship - if you would like - please let us know if you do not receive a
tracking number within the next couple of days."

I never received an shipping email but discovered a great hint in
another forum. Entering the brighstar Order-number and destination
postal code in the "track by reference" field at fedex.com shows the
shipping status - no matter if brightstar has sent a shipping-
confirmation.

My phone is currently somewhere in Chicago and supposed to arrive on
Dec 16. I'm quite disappointed by brighstar too and asked them if
they're willing to refound the "two days" fedex fee.

Brightstar site says that I have not either, but for international
orders, check the
mail address that was provided and it will mention the shipping
company
and order number.

Mine was UPS, after a quick visit to the UPS website and plugged in
the
order number I was able to see that my phone is sitting in Sydney
waiting
for the "CLEARING AGENCY". Hopefully to be delivered on the 17th.

Wade.

2008-12-15 Thread sickle cell

Got mine this weekend, and picked up a tmobile sim to get it working.
It didn't seem to want to do anything without a sim chip.

Same for me, I've ordered mine on 8/12 and I still got no tracking
number.
The status of the shipment is still ordered. Credit card got charged
instantly.

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-15 Thread cyntacks

Got mine!!! Ordered on the 10th no email tracking
number, brightstar website status never changed from "ordered', but I
have it so I am happy! If you have questions, call Brightstar
directly, Dana the customer service rep was excellent

Very excited, crossing my fingers that our app works on the device!!!

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-14 Thread bparker

Ordered mine on the 8th, got it on the 12th. Never got a tracking
number or anything, and the brightstar website still says that I have
never ordered anything.

Also I have tried setting up APN for AT&T about 10 times now and still
no luck...

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-13 Thread Yev

To US customers:

Has anyone been able to track the phone via
https://www.fedex.com/AltRefTracking?cntry_code=us

I was told if you put your order# in the reference, your ship date,
country,
it should show up.

I ordered mine on 12/9 and still nothing.

It is something really awkward. The time period of shipping ADP to
Florida is unknown.
Can we say less than a week or are there any faster shipping option?!

I'm still without any news, without any shipping confirmation, without
any tracking number... My credit card got indeed charged a juicy $580

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-13 Thread sidecircle

Maybe oversea people get a different treatement: Speaking for me
(France) I've placed my order last tuesday and as of today (saturday)
I'm still without any news, without any shipping confirmation, without
any tracking number... My credit card got indeed charged a juicy $580
instantely.

I received my developer phone following an order placed on the 8th.
There was not
any email or tracking information provided, it just showed up FedEx..
Give it a
little bit, we all are excited ;)

For people who haven't yet gotten their ADP (or didn't order one) JF has
written up a nice summary of how it compares to his original G1 at
http://www.gotontheinter.net/node/12 (disclaimer, that's my site but its his

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-12 Thread Tammen Bruccoleri
I called and left a message with the Android Dev 1 Phone sales team,
inquiring about the status of my Dev phone which was purchased on 12.09.
Thinking that I would never even get a reply. I went to the water cooler and
came back, found a message on my voicemail. Donna or Dana pleasantly left my
FedEx tracking number and phone number to call back if I had any questions
or concerns. Not getting a tracking automatically was a bummer and I was
kinda concerned about my order. However, I have not seen this type of superb
customer service in such a long time. Donna or Dana if your reading these
threads your doing a great job !!! Can't wait to open this early Christmas
present... Should be at my door tomorrow according to the FedEx tracking
number.

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-12 Thread Clint Fisher

I received mine this morning as well. Tried getting it to work with
AT&T unsuccessfully using various APN settings found on these boards.

THEN, while the phone was charging (red charge light), I turned away,
and the charge light and screen were off. After that, I have not
been able to power the unit up at all. I've tried resets, removing
battery, etc.. all to no avail. It's just DEAD. WAH!

So I'm RMA'ing the unit today.

Much bummage.

Maybe my Treo got jealous and killed it through the SIM card. :-)

So is the Dev Phone essentially the exact same thing as the G1 but it
has a different case, and it's unlocked?
I was reading that Google Apps and different features might be missing
from it and that worried me, and I was just wondering.

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-11 Thread Jackson Miller

I chose overnight shipping.

FYI: here are my full APN settings for using my Android developer
device on AT&T. It took me a while to search and try the various
recommendations. I am on the iPhone data package if that makes a
difference:

Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy:
Port:
Username: wap.cingulargprs.com
Password: CINGULAR1
Server:
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy:
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type:

I just received my phone. I ordered it on Saturday. I am in
Nashville, TN.

Unfortunately I am having a hard time getting the APN settings for
AT&T right.

[android-developers] Re: Has anybody received an android dev phone in the US yet?

2008-12-10 Thread Al Sutton

You can carry up to 300 GBP (approx 490 USD) of goods into the UK for
personal use without having to pay UK Tax or Duty, so you can legally
carry a G1/Dev Phone 1 in lwithout paying tax if its for your PERSONAL
use ;).
