Hi Kenny.

Do you mean Soft Wrap?
If so. Go to:
Main menu Eclipse Preferences Java Code Style Formatter Edit (Active
Profile)  Line wrapping (tab)
And config here your wrap preferences.

 Uggh...looks terrible to me. If you have lines in your code that are long
 enough to require word-wrapping, then those lines are too long, especially
 with today's large monitors and high resolutions. Decompose them and make
 the code more readable IMO.

Subject: Regarding the Android application development
To: android-developers@googlegroups.com

Hi Team,

This is Shyam Prasad from Mahindrasatyam, Pune, India.

I am new to android application development. I need a help regarding “how I
can connect to database like SAP, Oracle, MS SQL server, etc., from my
android application”.

I want to fetch the data from that database and display that data in my
Android application and I want to update the database from my application.

Please help me with a sample application that makes use of Oracle or any
other database(mainly SAP) as its backend.

I searched for this issue in net but I haven’t got any useful link.

And I saw in the internet that Android application makes use SQLite
database. *How to populate that SQLite database with my backend database
like SAP, Oracle, MS SQL server etc., and from my application how can I
maintain the data consistency between my backend database and android
application.*

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Shyam

[android-developers] retrieve resource string from plain class

2011-09-14 Thread John Goche
Hello,

I would like to retrieve the value of a resource string from
a plain class that does not have a Context superclass. Is
this possible? I see the API:

http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/string-resource.html

which do not list getString and getText as static methods.

I tried

String foo = (new Context()).getString(R.string.str_foo);

but it seems I cannot do this.

Any ideas?

have searched so many courses and materials on google for it.

I found one interesting course which is online. It is held at
University of California, Irvine Extension. I am planning to enroll
for this course.

So anyone have any idea about how the course is, please let me know.
This course costs about, $650. So before I enroll for it I want to
know how useful it will be for me to get job after completion of it.

I also want to know if anyone has any idea about it, what is the
difference between University of California Irvine and University or
California Irvine Extension degree. Are these both same collage or
different?

Thanks.

[android-developers] Re: Back button problem in android

2011-09-14 Thread Vance Turnewitsch

First, I think you are asking a user question. This is a developer
forum. I would suggest looking for the android market help forum.
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/label?lid=1d903020a35e806ehl=en.
Or contact the developer of the app. Also for the time being,
developers design their apps in different ways. You may not be able to
go back to your activity; but maybe should try accessing recent apps
with your device and choose your app.

Good luck

 int height=metrics.heightPixels;

 For API 3.2 emulator with 1280x800 screen size, the height return is

 I tried to get the height with methods but always return 752

 I need to know the real height value because in portrait the menu bar
 don´t have influence in the drawable zone.

 Any ideas?

 Regards,

 Shyam

99% of the time you can safely assume it is a Market issue.

Try here:

Pretend it's a user-facing issue and you apparently can even have someone

 you seem to have a fundamental problem here. SQLite is a RELATIONAL
 database. XML is HIERARCHICAL. The Mericans would say trying to push a
 square peg in a round hole

 Before you can insert the XML data into SQLite you either need to flatten
 the data, or indicate a parent/child relationship between entries, or simply
 store the whole XML as a string.

[android-developers] View subclass

2011-09-14 Thread bob
So, I created my own View subclass like this:

public class StatsTable extends View {

public StatsTable(Context context) {
super(context);
// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
}

@Override
public void onDraw(Canvas canvas) {
canvas.drawARGB(255, 1, 0, 0);
}

}

Anyone know what I have to do to reference this in my layout XML?

If StatsTable is in the com.coolgroups.bob package, you would use:

com.coolgroups.bob.StatsTable android:id=@+id/hello ... /

Note that you would need a different (additional) constructor, one
that takes an AttributeSet as the second parameter. See my ColorMixer
custom widget:

[android-developers] help on dalvik VM.

2011-09-14 Thread Pratik Prajapati
Dear All,

There are a lot of classes in my (big) APK which are used no where(some test
code is part of the APK with the actual service). Will dalvik VM keep these
classes in memory at runtime? ( many classes are not used to create any
object out of them).

As per my understanding, dalvik creates a single .dex file by combining all
the .class in the apk. Does dalvik breaks this .dex file while running its
bytecode and use the minimum code in memory?

  I had used

 Just replace NfcA withIsoDep.

 You can then connect to theIsoDepobject:

 Then you can transmit ISO 7816-4 APDU commands with the transceive() method:

[android-developers] Re: Back button problem in android

2011-09-14 Thread Indicator Veritatis
Overriding the Back key is usually a bad idea. Even though most users
are not technical enough to understand what it means to call
'finish()' on an Activity, they do get used to what it means in
practice: the Activity is removed from the Activity stack and
'destroyed'. Be VERY careful about going against this expectation.

 you seem to have a fundamental problem here. SQLite is a RELATIONAL
 database. XML is HIERARCHICAL. The Mericans would say trying to push a
 square peg in a round hole

 Before you can insert the XML data into SQLite you either need to flatten
 the data, or indicate a parent/child relationship between entries, or
 simply
 store the whole XML as a string.

as you already bullied the spanish speaking people, how about providing the
information he might be looking for?
As you didn't bother to reply in spanish you could provide some english

you'll probably have to show the content on a webview on your own app if you
want to control what is displayed or not (address bar and so on)

2011/9/15 Indicator Veritatis mej1...@yahoo.com

 Also, the link you gave him is about integrating a Web UI into Eclipse
 itself. But that is not what he is asking for: he is talking about one
 application (he didn't say where, presumably on an Android phone)
 having a link to another, the latter being a web application.

 I don't see how integrating a Web UI into Eclipse is going to help him
 do that.

[android-developers] Re: Why is the default to use dpi instead of screen size for drawables

2011-09-14 Thread ArcDroid
Correct it is a mdpi. The problem I have is that my app crashes if i
use 160dpi graphics so using 90dpi looks ok on a phone, but poor on a
tablet. Hence the only solution I have found is to use the drawable-
xlarge for the larger screens.

  That is what I thought initially, simply put the higher res graphics

  the only way I can get the good graphics to show is using drawables-
  xlarge since the tablet for some reason won't use drawables-hdpi.

 That's because your Acer tablet is an -mdpi device, most likely. A 10
 tablet with WXGA display should be -mdpi.

 The answer is:

 Bluetooth probably isn't intended to be used for that thing you're trying to
 do.

 (P.s., the reason people typically cite is that they want to randomly
 bond with other devices running their app so they can get a truly peer
 to peer app, but I think that this is kind of hacking BT.)

[android-developers] fragment transactions in onLoadFinished()

2011-09-14 Thread Nikolay Elenkov
I have a simple activity with a list fragment on the left and a details
fragment on the right. Tapping a list item kicks off a loader which
gets some data over HTTP and delivers it in onLoadFinished().
That works fine, but I'd like to change the detail fragment at this
point. Calling FragmentTransaction.commit() results in an
IllegalStateException, as explained in the docs [1].
FragmentTransaction.commitAllowingStateLoss() seems to
work, but feels wrong. What would be the right/preferred way
to do this? postDealyed()?
