Subject: Re: [andromeda] Trance story
I too have pretty much given up on the show. I'm not sure if
I'll ever have faith in good scifi again after this and the horrible
attrocity they call Enterprise. I know that the producers and others
are motivated by money and don't really care about the fans, but I'd
hoped for more from the people involved with Andromeda. Most of them
seem to be with it, but when they lost the two best writers, I started
to fear the worst. It's a shame that the worst seems to be happening,
EG. Kevin Sorbo!
Your friends,
Erika and Quala
I have had some disappointments. The loss of Trance's tail, for example,
didn't seem good to me. Supposedly, there were some problems with it,
besides the fact that the order came down from on high to get rid of it.
I do like the new Trance otherwise. Cosmic and terrifying, as Harper puts
it, sits just fine by me. And it's cool to see Laura get an opportunity to
change her character. I think that's a good thing for her professionally
(at least, I hope it is).
I was also disappointed in the executive decision to have the Commonwealth
form so rapidly (by the end of Season 2). Technically, it's there, and we
didn't get to see Dylan work his way through the list of worlds. But
apparently even Kevin Sorbo felt there were only so many conflicts that such
world-recruiting entails.
Nonetheless, I have not lost interest in the show. I think Tyr is a great
character and they do some interesting things with him.
As for Enterprise, I am one of those long-time Star Trek fans who enjoys the
new show. I even like the theme song. Perhaps that's because I was never
strongly attached to any of the 1980+ shows. I don't know. But I think the
move into the past was a good idea, as it lets them shed some of the baggage
which I found to be so confining to the previous shows. So many Federation
directives were set aside that I often wondered how those starship captains
kept their jobs. At least now when Archer mucks around with a planet, he
isn't violating any laws (to which he is supposedly answerable). And I like
the ship.
Ah well.
