Hi Marcin,

tested sucessfully on Poodle 5600.

It reports "File too big to flash!", which seems correct with the following
image:

The old updater.sh did not reported any problems, which was wrong and bad.

It flashes with sucess this image, which fits into the flash memory:

Both images sadly don't boot on my Poddle afterwards to to some kind of
kernel crash, but that's probably another story...

seldom see you on IRC (neither am I, but then I know when I could reach you).
b) What are your plans for Angstrom ? I think it would be great if 2.6.24 could 
become default-kernel for Angstom on Poodle, and if we could enable WPA 
wireless as well by default.

[Angstrom-devel] [PATCH] Poodle WPA support

Could the developers here please check this patch for correctness and if OK, 
commit it to the -dev branch?

Basically it enables WPA wireless support with CF-WIFI-cards on Poodle by 
default.
This is done by adding some missing config lines 
(MACHINE_FEATURES_append_poodle and MACHINE_EXTRA_RRECOMMENDS_poodle), which 
are similiar to the ones of other Zaurus devices.

In task-base.bb I've added the "kernel-module-crypto_algapi" and 
"kernel-module-cryptomgr" to the WIFI section, since they are necessary for WPA 
support.
I assume this should make other Devices WPA-ready as well (is anybody else 
testing WPA?).

Last but not least, the patch against 
"packages/linux/linux-rp-2.6.24/pxafb.patch" cleans up the patch itself. 
Somehow one section went in there twice.

This one I don't quite understand.
Could you please explain this a little more ?
I found RDEPENDS_task-base-extended in packages/tasks/task-base.bb.
This one includes ${ADD_WIFI}.
In the function "__anonymous ()", ${ADD_WIFI} is set to include 
"task-base-wifi" if this line is true:
...if "wifi" in distro_features and not "wifi" in machine_features and 
("pcmcia" in machine_features or "pci" in machine_features or "usbhost" in 
machine_features)...

It seems for Poodle, that "wifi" is in distro_features, "wifi" is not in 
machine_features and pcmcia is in machine_features.
So the above check seems to be OK, but nevertheless the boot kernel on Poodle 
does not include wifi for me.

Am I looking at the right place, or did you meant something else ?
Do you maybe have another hint for me ?

WPA wifi won't work the opie* images, since the needed kernel crypto modules 
(as defined by the task-base-extended package) are missing on poodle (and 
probably on Akita and Spitz as well).
Interestingly in the x11 image they are included, as the x11-image.bb includes 
"task-base-extended" in it's IMAGE_INSTALL variable.

Is the following (untested) patch the correct fix ?

I'm not sure how many developers will step up, but I'd really be interested in 
the Zaurus C750 and the JTAG cable.
Having a Poodle (SL-5600) myself, additional kernel/distro-testing with a C750 
would be just great.
Of course I'd cover the shipping expenses.

I tested the -r10 to -r12 images on Poodle (Poodle uses a 2.6.23-rp kernel).
Two problems:

1. WPA isn't working. 
Kernel reports "ieee80211_crypt_tkip: could not allocate crypto API arc4".
This is strange. arc4 and ecb modules are loaded, nevertheless a "cat 
/proc/crypto" doesn't report the ecb or any other block cypher.
I assume this is the reason why the ieee80211_crypt_tkip module reports the 
problem, since it tries to load the "ecb(arc4)" driver.
Grigorios Prasinos reported a similiar problem for C750 here:

2. Some keys are still not correct, esp. the Calendar and Address buttons.
I will look into that later.

In the meantime I had some mails with Richard and backported his 
linux-rp 2.6.24 changes to -stable.


It seems that WPA isn't working out of the box on Poodle, C7x0 and 860 
because the modules

- ieee80211softmac
- ieee80211
- cryptomgr
are not available in the default configuration.
Bugzilla 4180 worked around that problem by compiling the modules 
statically into the kernel.


I think this patch (copy&pasted here) should do it.
I still need to fully test it, but it gives the idea:

Basically I proposed the "MACHINE_FEATURES_append_poodle" patch once in 
this thread already:

It was discussed, but not resolved yet.
Without this patch the wifi and crypto modules will not be copied to the 
 base image.


The second change in zaurus-2.6.inc (MACHINE_EXTRA_RRECOMMENDS_poodle) 
was already suggested on the stable mailing list by Hans Henry to be 
backported. Without this patch, kernel modules for compact flash bus 
(and CF Wifi cards) will not be installed and turns the slot unusable.


The third change, which adds a few crypto modules to 
RRECOMMENDS_task-base-wifi, adds the missing modules for WPA support in 
the base image.


In general it would be great if this patch (or a similiar one) could go 
into -dev and -stable, as Poodle with 2.6.24 works pretty well in all 
other areas (http://linuxtogo.org/gowiki/ZaurusPoodle).
If the patch can be accepted I'd propose to backport RP's 2.6.24 kernel 
patches as well to -stable.

It seems the following patch is sufficient to get back WPA-support in 
2.6.24 in the stable tree (copy&pasted here):

Seconded, I did the fix against stable by building in the modules. Can
you confirm that if you re-modularise ecb,arc4,micheal-mic etc and apply
~ that patch it correctly allocates the crypto apis?

I always felt building in the crypto apis was a nasty fix.


I haven't been able to build -dev quite some time, but the attached 
patch is what I applied to -stable and it worked. So, I assume -dev is OK.


The defconfig-poodle file is a copy of the -dev version, and the 
packages/tasks/task-base.bb changes are based on the diff to the -dev 
version.

People can request stuff all day long, but the only way to get this into 
the stable tree is to offer the patch for review on the stable branch 
mailinglist.
