From what I can tell, there's no reason not to do what you suggest. But
I couldn't find the nspostgres module in CVS at SourceForge, so it'll
have to be created. The nspostgres 2.0 module can be downloaded as a tar
 file though.

But there may be reasons why it's not being hosted there that someone
 can shed light on.

It was there -- on my dev. box I have a copy of nspostgres checked
out of /cvsroot/aolserver/nspostgres from 10/3/2000 ... so, sometime
in the past year (heh) it got removed from CVS.

If everyone agrees that it's a good idea, someone could just
check in a new nspostgres using the openacs's postgres 2.0
driver as a starting point.

It was mentioned long ago about moving the source over but it is
probably that nobody ever got around to actually doing it.

Someone with CVS commit privs.

check in a new nspostgres using the openacs's postgres 2.0
 driver as a starting point.

The OpenACS driver is the one that works. The nspostgres at CVS
doesn't AFAIK. The OpenACS driver has bind variable emulation and works
with OpenACS 4.x.
So if someone with commit privs wants to do that, that'd be great. The
driver compiles just fine with all versions ( 3.0) of AOLserver I've
used. I haven't tested with 4.0 yet.

When I had CVS access (which, unless Kris dropped me from the list, I still
have) I went to make an attempt at doing just this. I quickly realized that
it was best to have the driver in one canonical place. In fact, I believe
this was discussed at length on this list -- although I may be barking up the
wrong tree. Keeping two separate repositories synced isn't really a wise
move, IMHO.

IIRC I am the one who suggested it be dropped from the AOLserver CVS. The
reason was that the OpenACS version was under more active development, and
should be considered canonical.

The version available for download from aolserver.com should not be. (Yes,
that's the end of the thought -- that version should not exist, should not be
used, etc. The OpenACS version is The One.)

But, if someone else wants to try to do this, be my guest.
