Re: [arch-general] MediaWiki extension and fix pull request
Honestly, I think if the Cite extension had been installed from the first years of the ArchWiki or so, it's very likely that today it would be used extensively and we would feel it like an indispensable tool. However, what we are instead doing is use plain inline links, e.g.: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet (see [http://example.com Blog article name]), consectetur adipiscing elit. Donec porta ligula eu pharetra pretium. Donec eu lacus ac purus mattis tincidunt id in nunc. Donec rutrum turpis urna[http://example.com], ut volutpat nisl consequat nec. Etiam in ultrices erat [http://linux.com Linux foundation]. Yes, this is uglier, but it's always worked ok, since, unlike on Wikipedia, we don't require to provide references for every single statement, so there shouldn't be the need to insert too many links. That said, I would be available for discussing the installation of that extension, as well as several others that would greatly facilitate the maintenance of the wiki, but the problem is that there's not enough workforce (i.e. Developers) to maintain the repo even as it is now; consider for example the fact that the current version of MediaWiki is 1.24, but we're still using 1.22 for undisclosed reasons; or see the wiki bug reports that have been opened for several months now, effectively discouraging opening new ones and instead making it necessary to find workarounds like the recently created MediaWiki:Archlinux.css page to fix some CSS bugs. Until the ArchWiki will find some more interested Developers to take care of it, I don't really think that any extensions will ever be installed, and that's why I'm trying to suggest viable alternatives like the inline links above, recommending to concentrate our efforts into writing the best articles that we can we the tools that are available now :) Dario (Kynikos)
Re: [arch-general] MediaWiki extension and fix pull request
Just a quick clarification from work, I never showed support for installing the cite extension, and I'm aware that it's developers, and not TUs, that have access to the repos. [arch-general] [ArchWiki] Why isn't MediaWiki upgraded to 1.23?
MediaWiki 1.23.0 (LTS) was released last June, and it's now at 1.23.5 [1], however the ArchWiki is still using the legacy 1.22 version, and 1.23 is being pushed to a separate mw-1.23 branch [2]. Has the reason for this been discussed publicly, or can it be made public in this thread? [arch-general] Drop in the number of ArchWiki registered users
I keep track of some ArchWiki statistics in [1] and I've just realized that in the last month we've had a 6000+ drop in the number of registered users, which is a number that should instead only increase, as we don't have tools for (mass) deleting accounts. Anybody knows what happened? In the month of January, 3 commits have been made to [2], two of which are updates to MediaWiki: maybe one of them caused the issue? Hi! One of my next projects will require touchscreens for a 'kiosk' type of application, and I'm still trying to find the right hardware. I did a sort of kiosk application last year with an LG 1730 sf, which works (*) but required some tweaking, especially with regards to calibration. Can't remember the exact steps, right now:) * I mean, it did what it had to do, but you need to push the screen a bit too much, rendering it somehow not intuitive for the final user. The solution was to clear the hidden Application Data (or what is called) folder under Documents and Settings. Here probably is something like a lock file, I think. Ciao! Re: [arch-general] Keyboad in KDE locks up
Hi! Il mercoledì 04 marzo 2009 08:52:30 Jan de Groot ha scritto: Could be a problem with the evdev driver that freaks out on your keyboard. Restarting hal generates a load of new hotplug events for Xorg, so your keyboard gets removed from Xorg and hotplugged again, after which it is reinitialized. Is the keyboard you use PS2 or USB? I had a simila(?) problem: suddenly special keys (page up etc.) stopped to work, in KDE. Solved selecting Evdev managed keyboard (or what's the translation in English) in the control panel - System settings - Locals (?) - keyboard mapping. Hope this helps, though not sure! bye!
