So in fact I do not have Pulseaudio installed, hence it cannot be the
culprit :D
Nevertheless, when trying to test based on the instructions given before
(aplay for the wav files) I was also able to reproduce the issue in awesome
WM too.
But when I boot into Windows 8, sound is crystal clear and nothing cracks.

Related to the driver stuff:
I installed bumblebee some weeks ago and do not remember having used any
audio player since then.
Could it be the case, that bumblebee or something related is the culprit?
Is there an easy way to rule out that it is a hardware bug?

And this finally gave me the mesa-demos package, which I maybe installed

llvm is depency for mesa, and as we usually don't use versioned
depencies for packages in Arch, as everything is expected to be updated
and cherry picking is frowned uppon. So even if you have llvm in ignore
list, packages that depend on it will still get updated, as they assume
you also update llvm

I'd rather think, it is a steam problem. Steam is working fine here,
maybe you should contact the steam support.

Btw are you sure, it was a clean home? Because "Die Datei existiert
bereits" implys, that there was an existing file.
You can start steam with strace to see, which file steam is refering to.
(or add a real new user)

Hey,

I don't think it is related to steam, as starting mincraft gives me
the same error:

It was a clean home (for the new user "test") but I had to restart
steam since it didn't even show a GUI when launching for the first time.

Could this be solved by installing the catalyst driver? I would then
try this although it might impose a lot of work on me as I am running
on xorg 1.15...

Best regards,

Heiko

Some additional info, I forgot:

The minecraft launcher says that it was not able to initialize an OpenGL
Context, so generally OpenGL seems to be broken although I have all
libraries installed.

Hey,

I don't think it is related to steam, as starting mincraft gives me the
same error:

org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Could not init GLX

It was a clean home (for the new user "test") but I had to restart steam
since it didn't even show a GUI when launching for the first time.

Kernel, mesa, lib-ati, lib32-ati, steam, xorg*
What video card do you have?

Did you try a clean /home directory?

Ok, here is what I have:

Hey,

unfortunately I already have lib32-ati-dri and ati-dri installed.

I can't really tell since when this happens as I've been busy for
university and updated sometimes meanwhile. So I can't tell what package
exactly brocke it.

You can take a look at pacman log file (/var/log/pacman.log) for hints.

Kind regards,
Eliseo.

Before, I was able to run steam but it always notified me of the lacking
glx.

Thanks in advance.

You need (lib32-)ati-dri besides xf86-video-ati, for OpenGL GLX
extension to work with steam.

He said "since some days".
Does the same happen with a clean steam in a clean home directory?

It would be nice to know, which packages have been updated.

I'm not sure if you misunderstood me. I was enumerating the 2 or 3

Ok sorry then.

I was confused by the fact that you tried to get permanent root acces,
which I would never recommend.

[arch-general] Permanently allow root access

2014-02-03 Thread Heiko Becker

Hey,

I cannot reproduce your exploit.

Using the stock sudoers file only with the modification

%sudo ALL=(ALL) ALL

and the place for running X applications as root is commented out.

## Run X applications through sudo; HOME is used to find the
## .Xauthority file. Note that other programs use HOME to find
## configuration files and this may lead to privilege escalation!
# Defaults env_keep += "HOME"

cheers,

Heiko

Hey guys

I'll just throw my more local (than probably necessary) .bashrc
function in here...

sudo ()
{
 local env;
 if [[ -n "$DISPLAY" ]]; then
 command sudo "XAUTHORITY=$HOME/.Xauthority" "$@";
 else
 command sudo "$@";
 fi
}

You don't give up on X11 cookies, you don't need to touch pam and can
go on hoping it works in your favor, and thridly, there's even a
mention of .Xauthority in the stock sudoers file, so, you'll never
find where these things are set up on a running system anyway...

cheers!
