Re: [arch-general] Help with pm-suspend
On 06/30/2012 06:28 AM, Randy wrote: Hello All, I'm seeing a strange issue when I suspend my system. If I suspend using either the command: dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.UPower /org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Suspend or running pm-suspend as root, the system will shutdown and go into suspend mode like it should. But if I execute either of these commands again, it doesn't suspend. What I found is that after suspending the first time I can see that /usr/sbin/pm-suspend is still active. After killing this process I am then able to suspend again. Any ideas on what's going on here? Why would the suspend process still be running after resuming from suspend? Thanks, Randy . I have the same issue. Did post about it while back. I started disabling modules at boot-up and found that if I remove bluetooth my issue goes away. Assuming something does not unload cleanly at the first suspend. Manne

And many things got quite worse. I have no idea where to search for details or find out why it is going sooo slow in some programs. But it happened. I can't use an older driver because of kernel. And so I have to live with worse performance until next driver update. For Example: I play Tibia. normaly I got a Framerate of at least 50 fps and much more. Now it stucks on 15fps. And so are some other programs. But, like I allready told, I have no idea how to debug more about this thing. Another one: I also have in mind that glxgears, started without parameters on default size, gets me around 45000 fps and now it has abouot 15000 fps. Baumi I did an update and it was not that bad - small performance hit - but not big enough to go back to Compiz. Wow, 45000fps, what card are you using? I get 1800fps with my 8600M GT and Kwin effects enabled, my Dell is getting old! Manne

BT headsets run out of battery, if that happens you have to manually change .asoundrc and perhaps restart sound-generating apps, if you're not using a sound server such as pulseaudio. If you want to read up on the different sound components, just do a google search. There's tons of articles out there, some very good, mostly a bit crap. Lennart Pottering (dev for Pulse) has a particularly good one I recall. Most on Arch wouldn't like his conclusions though. That's what I thought, thanks, will try Pulseaudio (thou I have been warned by others). So am I right in understanding that in a perfect world, all programs will support Pulseaudio (config and mixing) and in-tern it will use ALSA to do the lowlevel hardware side? (thus Pulseaudio will replace all the other sound servers and layers out there) Manne

[arch-general] OOo Calc max rows
Hi, I have Calc 3.1.1 installed on two separate machines, one Arch and other openSUSE10.3 (both from their respective repos, not from openoffice.org). Both have a maximum row count of 1048576? I wasn't aware that the 65536 limit was increased; I cannot find anything at openoffice.org about this feature? Problem is that some (small) sheets now save to 100Meg files? Obviously still some bugs left. Anyone also have 1048576 rows in Calc 3.1.1? Manne

I would assume it only saves as many rows as you actually use, but I haven't tried it. Philipp It works mostly, except when I have VLOOKUPs from external XLS files, the file saves to 100Meg files or crashes. Just strange that I cant find any info on this on the OpenOffice.org site (this was a big issue to make Calc compatible with Excel 2007). Manne
[arch-general] KDE4.3 upgrade
Just upgraded to KDE4.3 and for some reason almost all possible KDE apps were installed alongside the upgraded packages? anyone know why? Also I lost the ability to play MP3s in Amarok. Manne

Searching around, I've found a fix: simply export this in your environment: export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 You can just put this in your zsh/bash/whatever profile/config, or make a wrapper script for firefox or something. I'm contemplating filing a bug with us. Do you guys think it's worth doing? Is it with us? Cheers, -Andrei Garoth Thorp You can also disable hardware acceleration in the player options. Allan Yes, sorry, was bit quick on that send button. KDE4 4.2.4 on extra. When I start plasma from commandline I cant seem to get it to crash? Now it just opens a dialog box with nothing in it. Empty dir listing box. Navigating to any dir does nothing and locks up plasma (bottom panel and other plasmoids not responding). After a while it times out and then back to empty dir listing in the open dialog. Hope this helps. Any way to het some more debug from plasma? Manne
[arch-general] AUR package version
Hi, how do I know which AUR package to use if there are multiples? check last updated date? For example, there is amarok-svn and amarok2-svn, but amarok2-svn was last updated in beginning of Jun, amarok-svn yesterday. Manne

Manne Are you sure they aren't for amarok and amarok2 respectively? update date doesn't matter for svn/cvs/git packages, they usually check out the last revision at the time you build the package. Philipp we should delete some of them. which are of those are deprecated? The svn/cvs/git was a general remark, in the case of amarok there seems to be only one svn package for amarok1 and amarok2 respectively, which is ok IMHO. Well, there is: amarok-svn amarok1 1.4.10-3 amarok2-svn I will use amarok2-svn. Manne
Re: [arch-general] AUR package version
Will Siddall wrote: Each of these packages are for a different purpose. Obviously amarok-svn is to download the latest amarok from subversion, amarok2-svn is so people get the latest build of amarok2 from subversion and amarok1 would be for those people who want the 1.4.10 build of amarok because they are reluctant to upgrade to 2 (such as myself). The update dates only reflect when the owner of the package made a change to the package details, it does not reflect the application itself (especially if it is coming from svn). If you want the latest application and you're using the svn packages, new code is usually submitted every night, so run your update every night for that package. [arch-general] KDE, Bluetooth and Wifi
So, I am new here, just installed ArchLinux on my work laptop. Had some issues with getting X and KDE4 up, but all fine now. KDE4 is different, I can see why some people dislike it - still needs that polished feeling that 3.5 had, but hey that will come with time. My biggest concern at the moment is Bluetooth mouse and Wifi. KBluetooth looses my mouse, randomly, and there is no KNetworkManager (well a finished one) at the moment. So my question, what does the ArchLinux KDE community use for Bluetooth and Wifi management. (I can fiddle round with bluez and wpa_supplicant config files, but would rather use some higher level config util) Manne ps. I come from the OpenSUSE world, so excuse my desire for management tools.

(I can fiddle round with bluez and wpa_supplicant config files, but would rather use some higher level config util) Manne ps. I come from the OpenSUSE world, so excuse my desire for management tools. From my experience, kbluetooth4 is rather useless (many bugs, no features, virtually no active development). I've been using blueman recently, which does all I need. My mouse works great with bluez and automatically connects (all I had to do is set it to trusted in the blueman device manager). I sometimes have the problem that the mouse stops working, but then I simply switch it off, wait for a while and switch it on again, but this hasn't happened in a while now. About networkmanager, I always disliked it very much and don't know what KDE users do about it nowadays. Using blueman I found that the bluetooth module was not responding as it should (kbluetoothd just started with no error, and kbluetooth tools just gave dbus errors!). So it seems that the bluetooth modules does not survive a suspend-to-RAM, will have to place bluetooth and btusb modules in reload list for suspend. So has development on Kbluetooth stopped? I cant find any clarity on this on the KDE-apps page. Manne

But I have a good news: I am using kde 4.3beta1 here and kbluetooth works for file transfer pc-phone and viceversa (which does not work on kde 4.2) but I cannot try others bluetooth devices. you can use networkmanager-plasmoid-svn from AUR to manage your networks.
