I am trying to find the origin of the 4 instrumentals that came on the Kannathil M.. CD with no credits. I bought this CD in Chennai the day this audio was released. I tried to upload at least one (Taal se Taal) in MP3 format but Yahoo keeps erroring out. I am sure many of you will have this CD with the instrumenals. When I listen to them I want to believe it is Rahman himself playing the whole thing on a keyboard. It's that good. If not Rahman then I'm wondering who did this - it has that Rahman class. Sapna Mukherjee has never sounded so luminous as she does in the silken lullaby Ghoomparani. Rahman coalesces western influences, the violins and the tablas to create an operatic symphony of exquisite melodies. He affectionately trawls the riffs of Baul and the crannies of Kolkata to capture the rebel-rousing spirit in his version of Ekla chalo. The Swades (not the film) influence vends its way into Rahman sung Azadi and you know this is one helluva crackling song. Bose is the years most definitive album so far, a paean to patriotism. [arr] ARR bridging the North/South divide
I sometimes wonder how many MDs have been able to bridge the north/south divide in popular music in India? None comes to my mind except ARR. Minority of southerners have listened to Hindi film music for years though without understanding the lyrics. However, only with ARR, northerners started to listen to his tamil/telugu creations without understanding a word of the lyrics. This itself proves beyond a shadow of doubt the unsurpassed creativity of ARR. Just look at his range: carnatic based, hindustani raga based, western pop, fusion, and to top it all his own singing prowess. In addition, he has given music for Indian as well as international projects. His record speaks for itself. The intro part of the song 'Yela yela' from Arindhum ariyamalum by Yuvan Shankar Raja sounds pretty much inspired from Cyclist's Rhythm from Meenaxi - The tale of 3 cities...the usage of cycle bells and the percussion that follows('thappatai' i think).What you guys think?
