hai friend , We already saw the Trailer of Managal Pandey . It was in one of the DVD released from Yash Raj Music . It was showing Aamir Khan Walking With Chained Hands and Legs . Hai Rajeev, Hello Friend, i am not here to accuse anyone or hurt anyone or say that he is right and u are wrong, no no no.but i too have seen the Promo..ok not in India..but i saw it in Dubaime and my friend went to see a Malayalam movie one month back and exactly when the second section was about to begin after the intervalme and my friend were stuck to the seat..it was a huge beat with Aamir Khan coming up some steps in hand cuffs and alland it showed "Mangal Pandey" - "Coming Soon" was about 1 minuteor something..So this gentleman might also have seen itIf it was showed in Dubai that too one month back..then it should have been shown in India too right? I hate to be debating on this topic because our goal is the same. We want to be proud supporting ARR in public via the tshirt, and ofcourse we want publicity for ARR. He is the greatest composer of our time and more people from around the world ought to know about his magic. Music Composer/Singer label would do. But I don't think it will attract any unfamiliar crowd because, although it conveys the point, it seems mundane to me. (just my subjective opinion) Something like If Mozart was alive he would be called Rahman of the West.. not only conveys the point that he is a musical composer, it is more intriguing, especially to a non-indian. I belive something catchy will make people want to explore and see who he is.. afterall isnt that what we all want? People in Auckland are more receptive to other cultures, but Americans are not. We need to give them good enough reason to explore something otherwise they are uncomfortable with the change. ARR himself said somethign similar once when asked about disappointment with bombay dreams in the US. Anyway, these are just my 2-cents.. Tshirt creators have the right to choose whatever they wish after hearing our arguments. Simply put..ARR did 'use' the beats and samples...now no cribbing about it. But he never lifted the tunes from the original. Remember tune is the backbone of any song, not just the beats alone. Also, it depends on the director's demands. If the director wants to use somebody else's popular music in his film.and demands the MD...ARR doesn't have much choice, but to put it that way. There are so many forms and genres and so many musicians that music is bound to overlap. I am happy even if ARR is 95% original and 5% inspired (not copied or lifted). To me if the music touches your heart it is original. And sure his music has touched millions. I don't care what others say. I don't see why you should be ashamed when someone says ARR copied. I think the way we project him to people really matters. If you tell people that he is the only 100% original composer, defenitely you will be challenged as everyone interprets music in a different way. And one can never be a complete authority in all types of music. I never get into arguments about things like copying and lifting because I lack musical knowledge. Instead I tell people to compare his music with the output from other musicians and even an idiot can say that ARR is way ahead without considering factors like hits or flops, box office, popularity etc. So just leave out the very very few instances when he might have been inspired and look at his whole body of work. Defenitely you judgment cannot get clouded by that small % of inspiration that you don't have time to appreciate the other part of his music. To me ARR still continues to give great music, as good as his earlier days but probably lacks popular appeal because the standard of the masses have fallen and not his music. We Indians are always fond of the numbers game so naturally there is bound to be more criticism when he may not be topping the popularity charts. To me geniuses like ARR never falter, they may have their low periods but will always be remembered. But they're always scant 5-6 minute interviews, sometimes less or sometimes more. Most of these interviews are replayed over and over again is some or the other channel, and it just shows the same old thing ! Friends, How many times have you watched him in an interview with your heart out, without any interferences. . . ( NONE! would be the answer !!) Wouldn't it be great to see a 2-hour long documentary dedicated only to A. R. Rahman? A film documentary that shows all the creative process of the maestro, from the spotting sessions with the director, to the final mixing! All this intercut with a career-retrospective interview. It would be great to see archival footage from old musical sessions, to see A.R.Rahman at work with directors and musicians, intercut with clips from films he scored. All A. R.
