[arr] ARR is my inspiration
Hi all, Yesterday, i was just going through a web site where some of ARR's childhood days were described. The constant struggle that he had to face from such a young age looking after an ailing father and taking up the reins of the family at an age when boys go to school study and play. He gave up everythin took up the responsibility and started composing ad jingles and then rest of it is history.Besides being a world renowned music director I have also noticed how modest and humble this person is...Just compared this with the other present day music directors on the following accounts.. 1.He is never jealous of anybody..he just concentrates on his work i.e. music and not shoot off his mouth(Ismail Darbar does that best..u must be aware of his interview in rediff post music release of kisna bashing Rahman like anything.Wonder how low ppl can go in jealousy). 2.He never takes the credit for whatever he has done. He passes on to the almighty: Sign of a legend.Anu Malik never misses an opportunity to boast about himself no matter what shit he composes. 3.Knows to respect others:Even after becoming such a renowned composer still respects and looks upon to his mentor Illayaraja. I really doubt whether any MD does that or not. 4.The best part:Nobody knew about Naveen,Keith Peters, Rashid,Anupama,Febi etc..Our boss has ensured that his accomplices get the required credit for lending their voices or playing the instruments and also made them popular in the process.Tell me which MD does this?Take a Nadeem Shravan composition...never it has been mentioned who played violin or keyboard etc... 5.Always gives credit to fellow composers for their music..appreciates Yuvan,HJ for anniyan etc..but the vice versa never happens.. 6. Off course his works of charity and his numerous associations to do whatever possible for social upliftment.. There will be many more but this mail will then last for quite a long bit..well like our boss i am also not jealous of the MD's whom i have mentioned but i had to do so to make a clear comparison... Waiting for his latest releases especially water...anybody going to B'lore concert plz do send the description and also some pics if possible.. Lastly, i chatted with a fellow ARR fan and it was so nice to know each other and discuss the King's music... Hail ARR... bye, anujit Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Life without art music? [arr] [semi-arr] look where aamir places rahman
Finally, Aamir, how do you visualise Indian cinema growing? Do you think we will gain the kind of international acceptability we are seeking? You know, Lagaan got huge publicity from its international acclaim. Some people in the West, who were not initiated into Indian cinema, saw it and said: My God! They were overawed. My response is, hey, you have only seen one, there are others! Obviously they hadn't seen Mother India, Do Ankhen Barah Haath or Pyasa. The fact is Indian cinema has been travelling the world over for ages. Do Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy, Satyajit Ray need to be introduced all over again to the world? Everybody who is interested in cinema knows about their films. And commercial Hindi cinema is a craze in many parts of the world. When I went to Marrakesh, I found people there mad about our movies. They have been watching them for over 50 years. Agreed, the West - that is, Europe and the US - has not had the same exposure. But that's it. Indian films are screened regularly everywhere else. The kind of talent India has is world class. Leave alone acting and direction, just take music for example. Where do you get singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohammad Rafi or Kishore Kumar? Where do you get composers like SD and RD Burman, Naushad, AR Rahman? Do you get the kind of poets and lyricists Hindi cinema can boast about anywhere else? Let me tell you, we lack nothing. Even our technicians are world class, although the West is ahead of us in special effects and computer graphics. But there too, I believe we will catch up with them pretty soon. Our form of cinema is different from the West. But that's something we shouldn't change. Eventually people everywhere will appreciate and enjoy our form. Agreed, many films made here aren't great. But then, 80 percent of Hollywood is trash too. So, there is no need for us to bend backwards to appease Western audiences. I firmly believe we should not change our work style or storylines to suit them. Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Life without art music? [arr] A. R. Rahman inaugurates TB awareness programme
http://news.webindia123.com/news/showdetails.asp?id=113056cat=Health A. R. Rahman inaugurates TB awareness programme:- New Delhi | September 03, 2005 9:25:05 PM ISTMusic director and composer A.R.Rahman Saturday launched 'TB Sangharsh', the first Indian tuberculosis patients' network, as part of a nationwide effort to create awareness about the disease here. Inaugurating the network, Rahman, who is a global ambassador for the International Stop TB Partnership, met patients in west Delhi's Mongolpuri area. He also interacted with them about the treatments available and encouraged them to avail of these. "Every individual is important for the country and hence it is better to be disease-free by availing of the treatment," he said. Organised by TB Action India, a TB advocacy NGO, the programme aimes at creating awareness about the disease among the masses and involving the patients in the campaign. The newly formed network will closely work with both NGOs and patients and advise them about different kinds of treatment available. It will also fight the stigma attached to the disease. Stop TB Partnership is an initiative of the World Health Organisation. Around two million people die of TB every year and about 30 percent of the world's TB population lives in India. [arr] Re: dinner with boss in sydney
--- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Nat Samy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Pravin, Can you please send me details of Sydney dinner anyway, though it is too late. ARR concert in Sydney has been a well kept secret. No promotion at all whatsoever. The only ad I saw was in Indian link, a free (monthly?) news/magazine you can pick up in (some) Indian grocery shops. There is not even any poster, normally displayed for Indian movies or performances. I don't know about Indian FM radios. Many Bollywood music lovers (of other national origins) who don't pick up Indian link will be missing out on once in a lifetime opportunity, unless if they are lucky to know by word of mouth. I hope the organisers know what they are doing to get a full house in (Olympic) Superdome. Just for your information, the Sydney SuperDome is about 180 seats short of a sell out! The organisers seem to have got through to nearly 13,000 people who seem to have purchased tickets! Ads for this concert have appeared in ALL newspapers including mainstream broadsheets over the last 3 months or more. Enjoy the concert... Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Life without art music?
