hi all i like to know anymore songs in the genre of "SUTTUM VIZHI SUDARTHAAN KANNAMMA SOORIYA CHANDHIRARO" from movie "Kandu Kondaen KK" a song in style of reciting versus, melody but which are without any beats. i find it difficult to add more in this genre. Not that I think the review is worth ANY response, however, -- did any one notice that the 2 songs he mentions are good -- are those that follow the general antra-mukhda-antra format. All the remaining songs in the film are basically what Gulzar refers to as free-flow (or in poetry terms, blank verse). For instance -- Khalbabli -- has only one para..and the first part has various variations. Roobaroo has a juxtaposition of 'dhuan chata khulla gaggan mera'. Now, for a person only used to copies songs and normal formats of Jiya Dhadak, etc...such classic experimentation would obviously be over-the-head. The story of Naresh Iyer is something such! When he entered the Channel V's Super Singer contest he was among the 25,000 contests vying to try his luck and establish him as one of the talented singers. The 25-year-old lad from Matunga in Mumbai was lucky to be chosen among the final 25 but he couldn't reach the finals. But that was not the end of him. His rare talent caught the eyes of the judges A R Rahman and Adnan Sami. They were not the one who has given the verdict that he couldn't wield the mike again. Rather Rahman said him that though he is out of the contest, he will be recording with him soon. Naresh dropped the idea to pursue a career in CA and went to Chennai to give a take as a singer. Music was not new to him. He has done his formal training with Chintamani Gore and Sushila Mani. He had previously done 500 stage shows with a theatre group called Rangaat Productions. He has also sung a song in the Tamil movie `Anbe Aaruyire'. And with `Roobaroo', `Tu bin bataye' and `Paathshala' from `Rang De Basanti' he has found a new introduction and identity in the music world. Naresh had no idea that the song could be a profile for his career. Naresh had no idea that he was singing for a Aamir Khan film. After spending 12 hours in the recording studio, Naresh took 3 hours to record `Roobaroo'. After doing two lively scores, he had to control his voice for `Tu bin bataye', which is a slow and soft song by nature. He was nervous when he met Rahman for the first time but as he started working all his fears vanishes. He says that Rahman is like a friend in the studio. To achieve his dreams of working with a composer of his calibre he is ready to sacrifice and strain himself. He quotes Rahman as the `father of the modern Bollywood sound'. He also met Aamir Khan in the studio and couldn't believe his eyes. Naresh owes his break in singing to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Prasoon Joshi. He liked the funky lyrics penned by the Joshi and says that Joshi inspired him a lot while doing the renditions. It was a one-line reaction, "Aag hai mujhmen kahi" ("There is a fire within me") — that's what former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said to film director Rakeysh Mehra after seeing Rang de Basanti.
Vajpayee was repeating part of the lyrics of a song in the film. And though it might have struck a chord with the poet in him, the spirit of the movie — entertaining and inspirational at the same time, encouraging people to examine their own views on the country today — seems to have resonated with the general audience too.
Rang de Basanti has officially been termed a blockbuster, yet it is not a run-of-the-mill commercial film. "It makes you introspect and point a finger at yourself," says Mehra.
The movie tracks the transition of five college-going youngsters. Initially their existence is built around partying; discussions on patriotism and nationalism reveal that they consider them redundant in the new age of consumerism, and freedom fighters and revolutionaries are distant fable-like characters to them. But soon they realise that there is more to life than just fun.
The movie juxtaposes the story of the armed revolutionaries of 1930s India with the story of modern India, where the youngsters start absorbing the spirit of the revolutionaries in today's context. With the finale left open-ended, it has kicked up debates and discussions.
As the cast of Rang de is being applauded for their performances, the people who were behind the camera are relieved that a complex story-line that could have gone completely wrong came out the way it was visualised.
Kamlesh Pandey, who scripted the movie, was researching on Bhagat Singh for television when he came across interesting personality traits of Singh and his friends. "They were young, fun-loving pranksters apart from just being patriotic, which has always been overlooked in other movies." Pandey also found a quote by Bhagat Singh suggesting that independence does not mean replacing white exploiters with Indian exploiters — and that if that were to happen, he would similarly revolt.
With Mehra also keen to do a movie on the armed revolutionaries and both certain that it should not be a period film, they questioned 150 youngsters in a focus group on their views on India today. Their revelations were the same as depicted in the movie — hedonistic, confused, cynical and indifferent.
Mehra and Pandey then knew they had a story. "If you have to contemporarise patriotism, you have to do it with an issue that is relevant like the MIG issue. The characters in the movie, like the audience, are cynical about such issues and therefore relate to the movie," says Rensil D'Silva.
He ended up doing 22 drafts for the screenplay, careful to make it a youth movie, run a parallel story and yet not make it preachy or theatrical. From debating on heavy titles like Aahooti (sacrifice) and Young Guns of India, it was finally the lighthearted
Rang de Basanti they homed in on — the lines being from a song that Bhagat Singh liked.
With Aamir Khan all for the movie, "it made a lot of things fall into place", says Mehra. Khan's maturity in sharing the stage with young actors who all gave brilliant performances, is being lauded by the film industry.
The spontaneity and camaraderie of the college friends is effective and D'Silva admits that a screenplay with nine central characters in two different time periods and sets was a daunting task. No wonder Rang de's
screenplay took three-and-a-half years to complete even if the shooting was completed between February and July last year.
"A complex, non-linear movie of this canvas is a dream for any producer," says Ronnie Screwvala, CEO, UTV Productions who is gratified by the astounding commercial success of the movie — it grossed Rs 44.78 crore worldwide in the first 10 days itself , something no one expected. Also, UTV spent a whopping 40 per cent (Rs 10 crore) of the total movie production costs (Rs 25 crore) for its promotions. "If you don't want to spend on marketing, don't make the movie," asserts Screwvala.
With the movie's now-popular lingo being exactly campus-like with slang and casually used abuses, Prasoon Joshi, head of McCann Ericksson, South-east Asia, who isolated himself in Goa to write the dialogues and lyrics, did contemplate upon its usage but then decided "to be honest to the language".
The on-spot sound recording by Nakul Kamte while shooting also retained the spontaneity of the dialogues. Joshi recalls the biggest challenge while writing the dialogues was to get into the groove of the movie, while not becoming nostalgic about his own young days. "The boys' transition had to be subtle where their dialogues were not to be forced but are forceful," says Joshi.

Musical Moments:Youth anthem 'Apni to pathsala, masti ki pathsala…" the youth anthem is here. A.R. Rahman has done it again. Those writing him off after the not so musical rising of Mangal Pandey have to run for cover because the music sultan has rocked it in another Aamir starrer "Rang de Basanti". It's about a few friends who go from sitting and blaming the corrupt political system, having the "kuch nahi badal sakta" attitude to transforming completely and being ready to change things, even if it means putting their lives in danger. And the music keeps the momentum going.. "Ru ba ru" is a cool 'feel good' song which is great for a movie targeted at the youth. Even the romantic song "tum bin batayein" performed by Madhusree and Naresh Iyer makes you want to sing it out to your partner. The lyrics are by Prasoon Joshi, who has done a great job in terms of capturing the spirit of youth. Directed by Rakeysh Ompraskash Mehra of Aks fame, the movie stars Aamir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Atul Kulkarni, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor and Siddharth, Alice Patten. The album begins with "Ek Onkar" by Harshdeep Kaur. Each track is essential to the storyline… and that's the beauty of it. Daler Mehndi and Chitra set the adrenaline pumping in the fantastic title track "Rang de basanti". The "Be a rebel" version of the same by Blaaze is also equally rocking and inspiring. "Khalbali" has Rahman, Aslam and Nacim in a middle eastern flavoured disturbingly catchy song. "Khoon chala" by Mohit Chauhan is a contrast to "Khalbali", and delivered very intensely. Lata Mangeshkar hasn't lost her magic touch, as "Luka chuppi" will prove to you. Ramprasad Bismil's "Lalkaar" delivered by Aamir Khan himself, is a voice for nationalists. "Rang de" is all about youth and patriotism… So you're sure to love it. The soundtrack is an added bonus to the phenomenal movie. hi we can certainly take for the albums released are the originally composed sounds as far our interest concerned. when it is re-recorded with movie they make adjustments according to picturisation and dialogues where we feel a bit different. so its our keenness, choice and interest also to listen to those differences happen in the movie.
