The much sought-after music director who has scored music for the Chinese film, Heaven and Earth said that he has been watching Chinese films since over a decade and loved them for their simplicity. Speaking to the media recently he said he was delighted to be a part of the Lord of the Rings concert in Canada. Talking of remixes, he said he was not against them. However, he condemned remixes that try to kill the original. HMV's Solid Gold always have the TAG Digitally cleanedbut it cleans only old tracks, as I have the solid gold of Asha which includes rang debut it don't have any clearer sound than the original. - Hi In the album Dil ne jise apna kaha.. ARR was the original composer selected by director Atul Agnihotri. ARR was able to compose only 3 songs for the film and as he was busy with Bombay Dreams and LOTR and stuff he found it very difficult to do more songs for the film. So finally with the consent of ARR, Himesh Reshmiya was selected to compose the remaining songs. But I kept telling myself that all that mattered was the fact that ARR himself was going to be there performing. It is usual for original singers to perform his songs. If anyone is to visit the message board on miindia.com, you will probably come across a lot of messages saying it was not worth their money and what not. And obviously I do not agree with it. After we got there, we didn't wait around too much. We just showed our tickets and got in. When we entered the stadium, it was a bit intimidating 'cos it was still sinking that I was really there. We were shown to our seats in the 4th row. Oh, just before the concert, there was a reception where one could get to meet everyone including ARR, but that was 150 dollars per person. Skipped that. The stadium was yet to be filled in with people. I was just taking in the details of the stage in front of us. I could see the KORG keyboards that was a sign where Rahman was going to be. And I could not be happier. He was going to be right in front of me. Time passed and the stadium was filled up with a lot of people. I truly was not expecting that many people, considering Ypsilanti is a small city and all. Anyhow, finally it was time for the show to begin. The Global Rhythm group entered and took their positions. The singers were distributed in 3 groups (comprising of atleast 25 people each). Then there were the string instrument players, the keyboard players and the percussionists. The President of EMU made an opening speech, praising this effort and ARR. And then we were told that the music was directed by ARR, and was going to be conducted by Ethan Sperry. After that one white girl came up and started, " Sari madushaala pi aaya...". I could not believe what I was hearing. My instant reaction was 'What in the world?!' And what followed after shut me up for the rest of the concert. The way these people performed ' Ramta jogi' was mindblowing. The energy levels were skyrocketing. My eyes were welled up by the time they ended the song. And I remember thinking, 'Tears already? This is just the beginning!'. I managed to get my act together by the time, Ethan asked us to welcome The Man himself. At this moment, walked along a man who is admired, adored and loved by millions. He showed up clad in white cotton clothes. And he got the loudest cheers and a standing ovation. ARR took the mike and said (paraphrasing) " Can you believe what is happening on the stage?" A cheer followed. "Neither can I". It must be mentioned that there were some groups in the audience who were really loud. I mean I totally understand that everyone was excited to see him on the stage and everything, but there is something called a decent behaviour. It was to the extent that someone pointed it out to ARR and he had to say (paraphrasing) " Please listen to the singers while they are performing and shower your appreciation and love after the act was done". I felt ashamed. But I think it silenced people to a certain extent. I am roughly going to talk about the songs performed in (almost) orderly fashion and my own opinion of the performance: Khalbali: Performed by ARR. Brilliant. Very well sung. I think it was Karaoke. Ash, Abhi light up historical sites BAGALKOT: The historical sites of Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal came alive with star power on Tuesday. Actors Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are shooting here for Mani Ratnam's new film Guru. The scorching heat of North Karnataka notwithstanding, the pair shot for the film that seems to have the essence of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. Abhishek portrays a legendary hero of the First War of Independence in the film. This is Ash and Abhishek's first visit to the sites and they were highly fascinated by the monuments, sources said. Attired in a saree, Aishwarya took a ride in a cart, portraying a child-like expression of happiness at being in such fascinating surroundings. She, however, left thousands of fans — predominantly a young crowd — disappointed as they could not get a glimpse of the star. The police had cordoned off the monuments by nearly a kilometre from the site since Monday to keep curious crowds away. So the onlookers, mainly people from Bagalkot town and surrounding villages, could not catch the pair though several of them were perched on trees for a better view. Trade sources said the director had a tough time getting permission to shoot in Badami and Aihole as Archaeological Survey of India authorities feared damage to the monuments while shooting and due to the presence of huge crowds. It was only after the police agreed to provide adequate security did the ASI relent. In the hope of keeping the crowds away, the director had resorted to utmost secrecy, with even set designers being kept in the dark about the scenes to be shot. According to reports, the phone line to Alakatti's house, the hub of shooting activity, was cut two days before shooting began to ensure that no information leaked out. The century-old bungalow belonging to D M Alakatti is located on the outskirts of Bagalkot town, from where director Mani Ratnam is taking shots. The house had been abuzz with activity since a fortnight. Some scenes were also shot in Bagalkot town. On Monday, Aishwarya Rai began shooting for director Mani Ratnam's 'Guru'. Interestingly, this is the first time that Aishwarya is working under the directorial baton of a filmmaker for a second time. It may be recalled that Ratnam had launched the former Miss World's film career with the Tamil film 'Iruvar'. Ash is currently shooting for 'Guru' in a village in Karnataka. This is the second schedule of the film. The first schedule of the movie, which was shot in Turkey with Abhishek Bachchan, didn't require her presence. While many a filmmakers have been waiting desperately to cast Ash in their films, her busy schedule has not allowed her to take on new projects. What is not surprising is that Ash has prioritised the film of her debut director Mani Ratnam over others like Ashutosh's 'Akbar Jodha and 'Dhoom II'. In fact, Will Smith, Ketan Mehta and Ashutosh Gowarikar were other makers vying for the dates of the actor to kick off their projects.
