Re: [arr] Flashes of Extraordinary Brilliance
Correct there are many. Top of my mind is the Life's Never Easy song from Bombay Dreams. The part where the chorus in the last part of the song goes - tak thaiyya thaiyya tak, tak, tak tak. and then the whole song takes a different twist! What boss does is, introduce the sweet sound of the bul-bul instrument. If you hear this bit carefully, the bul-bul part has the potential of being another great song - but then our boss decides to merge it with the current song and that transition is absolutely brilliant!! Check it out yourself. Point is the effort that he puts into making a song "complete" - that by itself is a big learning for us musicians. The tenacity and drive to make for e.g., as Rahman puts it himself, one cry on hearing a love song or one feel a deep sense of belonging to the nation with the Jana Gana Mana rendition or Ye Jo Des - that to me is amazing!! I mean just listen carefully to his rendition of the national anthem - you will notice a string like heavy bass throughout the song which is the "ooo--mmm" chanting - that to me is the depth of the song. I really wonder - how does he do it? :) ciao / Gopal Sriram Acharya <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: I have many such bits to remember: 1) 'O Paalanhaare' from Lagaan has many such beautiful bits, like: 'Jag ke jo swami hoo' is very heart touching bit. 2) 'Chaandini se bhi pyaari mujhko...' phrase from 'Dekho naa' song of Swades 3) 'Yeh rishta kya kehalaataa hai...' from Meenakshi is awesome 4) 'Uchhal ke chuaa hai.', the high pitched bit from the charanam of 'Yeh jo desh hai' from swades 5) The magnificient bit from 'nayak' coming at the end of 'saiyya' song, which also repeats through movie as BGM. Still more to list... in next mails..:) Thanks, Sriram. rakesh kumar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Hi all This is one topic every member in this group should reply and share. Thanks to Ajit for bringing up this topic. There are two instances when i was completely bowled over by Rehman. It was not in his early days. I have done most of my schooling in North India. I was amazed by Roja, Kadhalan, Bombay and liked ARR very much. But In my heart i was waiting for the first Hindi project of ARR. Yes.."Rangeela". I clearly remembers. Those were my exam days and after the last exam, i was very happy as everybody else. After School a friend of mine invited me to come to his home for lunch as he stays near by the school. I was sitting in the drawing room and he said that this new movie had come and the songs are really good. I did not know that Rangeela music has released. There was no day-to-day update of music releases and film releases things like that back then.. He played the songs and I was speech less from the first song itself. First come "Rangeela Re", Then Hai Rama, Then Yaroon sun lo Zara..Then Rangeela Theme. Side B started with Kya karen ke na karen, Pyar Yeh jaane kaisa hai and last Mangta Hai Kya" I was not believing what i am hearing. I still could not express the feeling while hearing Mangta Hai Kya. If i am correct it was the first song sung by ARR ? His voice, shweta shetty's voice, the music arrangements.Whew !! All my life i have heard hindi songs with Tabla, Harmonium, Jhankar beats and this was totally out of this world. I heard the complete songs atleast 5 times at my friends place and before reaching home i have bought the Cassette so that my brother can also hear. The other instance is of Chaiyya Chaiyya. I was in punjab and we dont have access to cable. But in the stereo system we hear a program at 8:15 every morning, playing 30 sec and me and my brother will wait every morning to hear the songs from Dil se. One more i would like to mention is AE's Jana Gana Mana..The beats of the song is awseome. and i was stunned by the glass breaking effect at the start of the song. I didn't liked the hindi version, mainly bcoz of the lyrics. Guys though all the instance when hearing rehman new song is a new experience altogether. we are really blessed to live in Rehmans Era. [arr] Re: Flashes of Extraordinary Brilliance
You are absolutely right rakesh, Rangeela was the trend setter music in north. I was just landed in Mumbai in those days, and first promo I heard about rangeela was in radio (called Lokgeet?). The song was Mangtha hai kya. There was no TV promos in those years and believe me how I felt weird when hearing song bits for two three days. I didn't had a clue that, there are lot of chartbusters in this album. And later I bought the cassette & rest all become history for me :P That was the first pure bollywood music by Rahman. I remember how my roommates gone wild on songs (who are absoulutely non-rahmanics)and started to discuss about rahman's capabilities everyday!! And I want to mention one thing about the theme music of Rangeela. The Eros Cinema (churchgate, Mumbai) which was screening the movie, started to play the theme music with lots of light & smoke effects like stage show... Such was the craze!! --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, rakesh kumar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Hi all > > This is one topic every member in this group should reply and share. Re: [arr] Flashes of Extraordinary Brilliance
I have many such bits to remember: 1) 'O Paalanhaare' from Lagaan has many such beautiful bits, like: 'Jag ke jo swami hoo' is very heart touching bit. Re: [arr] (non arr) Anyone else anticipating the soundtrack of Saawariya?
imho I have also made many (non-arr) posts which r not allowed here. then only came to know its out n out ARRs forum later realised if every1 start posting abt their other favorite MDs in tamil, telugu, malayalam , kannada, bengali, marati ? & things cud go worse. like allowing this one but not dat one etc. etc.. & it also wont be nice to spk abt only one area of (non-arr) MDs. when there r many such MDs in India :-) Ajit <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: After Jodha Akbar, this is the second most anticipated soundtrack for me this year. I think Monty is quite talented and did a fantastic job with the BGM of Black. The Black soundtrack is absolutely haunting and powerful. He will need to prove his full mettle handling a lofty song filled soundtrack of an SLB film on his own. He is a self declared Rahman fan and SLB called him the only other complete composer besides Rahman. If Rahman ever decides to work with SLB, I fear that their musical egos may clash. I think Jodha Akbar's music will have some serious competition from the music of Saawariya. Poor Ismail Darbar. His angry attitudes are not getting him any assignments. BTW, I think it is healthy and constructive to discuss music of other quality composers in this group. It frustrates me when the music of another composer is brought up and some here immediately slam that poster and the MD with superior attitudes and snobbish type remarks. We all know Rahman is the best, but that doesn't mean music from other MDs can't be appreciated and discussed here within reason. Please be open minded and respect diverse tastes. Other MDs who I admire are Vishal B., SEL, Shantanu Moitra, MM Kreem, Vishal Shekhar. - Choose the right car based on your needs. Check out Yahoo! Autos new Car Finder tool.
[arr] Which will be Rahman's next masterpiece?
Which is the next Rahman masterpiece? There is Sakkarakatti, ATM and Jodha Akbar. Of course, in all probability it would be J-A. Then there is Ghajini to look forward to, but somehow, I really am looking forward to Main Yuvraaj. I love the Ghai - Rahman combination and I think it will be a real amazing score. On the flip side, I really hope Sakkarkatti and ATM aren't ARR's second tier offerings like Tenali and Godfather. God knows we could use a real classic Tamil album somtime soon, even though Shivaji was so enjoyable. My dream Tamil album would be a new Mani-ARR album or an album for Bharathiraja, which is rural-centric... Khizziku Cheemayile and Karuthamma are two of my top 10 Rahman albums!!
