Re: [arr] We need to be like Michael Jackson: AR Rahman

2007-08-30 Thread Ramesh R
Don't get baited by the deliberately manipulated headline. That's so common of
most Indian media outlets these days. They'll misquote or twist a statement
into making people curious and having them to click and read the article.

ARR was talking about the versatility that is required of Indian composers
these days-- they need to do pop (like the music of Michael Jackson),
orchestral (like John Williams or Hans Zimmer) and folk music.

The article deliberately misses the 'a' before Michael Jackson to give it a
different meaning.

And please, can you type in clear English. What's all this SMS speak like in d
sense, 2 say, might b, concert dat happnd...?

AR Rahman tells Myleene Klass of CNN about evolution of music in Indian films
Do you think the use of music in Bollywood films has become slightly more
sophisticated?
Yeah, there is a film called 'Rang De Basanti' which also was the official
entry from India for Oscars, and this film, when I was doing it, I never knew
that the music would reach so many people across the globe.
  report continued below
Latest News on DNAINDIA.com
•'BJP is the outsider in UPA-Left marriage' more »
•UPA-Left mechanism on deal likely this week more »
•Probe ordered into Mayawati's profile on Orkut more »
  more »

The songs were lip synced, just used like a background, but it seemed to
blended well with the screenplay and the story. So I think it clearly proved
that the people are changing and they are looking forward to more sophistic and
non cliché stuff.
Was there a growing division, do you think, between films, between Indian
films that are favoured by rural audiences and urban audiences?
I think the line is becoming thinner and thinner, really, because, unlike a
couple of decades ago where people didn't know anything about the happening
outside. Now people know what it is that Hollywood and Chinese films are made
of. This influences people and so filmmakers are compelled to do stuff which is
world class.
I can see that the past six years a massive change has happened and there are
extraordinary filmmakers who are evolving.
What do you think are the qualities of a truly great composer?
One needs to transcend somebody by even if it is just one instrument theme. And
now the challenges of the composers are much more as its not just about
composing a great theme. One needs to know recording, production and how to
intertwine music with the movie.
And with Indian films it is an even greater challenge, because we need to be
like a Michael Jackson or John Williams, Hans Summer and an Indian folk
composer and put all of them together. So they expect finesse and they expect
versatility.

[arr] Semi-ARR: Bhansali approaches Bachchans for Bajirao Mastani

2007-08-30 Thread Abdul Manaf
Bhansali approaches Bachchans for Bajirao Mastani

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has approached the Bachchans – Amitabh, Abhishek and
Aishwarya for his next, Bajirao Mastani. He had originally planned the
historical to be his next release post Hum Dil Chuke Sanam (1999) but the
project has been delayed for lack of an apt lead pair. After going through
varied options he has zeroed in on the newly married star couple.
Aishwarya was always Bhansali's first choice for the courtesan's role and he
had dreamt of making the film with Salman opposite her playing the 18th century
Peshwa king and Rani Mukheree his wife, Kashibai, a source close to Bhansali
informs, “Both Salman - Ash were a pair off screen then. But following their
break up, the bearded director decided to maintain close pal Salman and started
looking around for Mastani's part. Name of top model, Shivani Kapoor too was
discussed then. He then settled upon on Kareena Kapoor and even gave interviews
about his choice claiming she possessed the pathos of Meena Kumari and the fire
of Nargis and that she had a completely different aura of attitude,
personality, beauty and femininity. But after everything was confirmed he
decided to postpone the project and make Devdas with Shah Rukh Khan instead.
Post Devdas, when everyone was expecting the pending project to take off,
Bhansali surprised everyone again by announcing his songless
Black with Big B and Rani Mukherjee, keeping his historical aside, yet again.
the source says.

Thanks Raju for the translation. But I think you've missed a mention at
Indian philosophy.. He says..

మరొకరి కోసం మనం దేవుడికి విన్నవించుకోవడమనేది చాలా గొప్ప విషయం. మన భారతీయ

must not forget that its god who presented us this all he says.he has
recently done an album pray for me brother which evoked a huge response from
all over the world.his interview excerpts

int:what made you do the album pray for me brother?
arr: i am a kind of person who wants every one to be fine. thats why i
wanted to convey to people to pray for others.music is the language
which i know and i did it.
prayer is one thing which conveys the affection from the heart.to plead
god for the sake of others is a great thing to do.if this would be done

like a love number.this album is my humble attempt to eradicate

arr:we have started A.R.Rahman foundation.every single paisa earned by
this album is being put into that.we would help all the people who dream
about studying and cannot afford it.
int:at one side you have international albums on the other you have
south indian movies .how are you able to work on both the sides.
arr:when we think the house to be ours wont the universe be.as a student
i have a constant urge to learn new things.in the international arena
one has to wait for a long time for an oppurtunity if one would lose it in
the first place.i had to work for almost three years for the lord of the

enthusiasm.but no matter how far i go my roots would be in south indian

searching for the pleasure and joy in the difficulty.the international
music is for me. our film music is for my people.
int:now you have reached an international level what would be your next
  goal?
arr: i and my music together are on a journey.there has been a notable
change occuring in my life every three years.the journey which started
from music albums , tamil movies ,hindi movies, music tours ,stage drama and
many other milestones.now i am working on the shekar kapur directorial
golden age.a hollywood movie.another important milestone for me.
int:what kind of response do awards evoke in you?
arr:awards are not the ultimate replica of our talent.i dont set goals
and work towards achieving awards.all those are the acknowledgements and
honour from others that we have done our job well.they are small small
joys.there is no more meaning to them in my view.
int:mani rathnam, shankar, amir khan.how do you feel when many ace
  directors and actors praise you?
arr:friendship always happens by itself.i am not of a kind who thinks
that its because we have to work together we must be friendly with
them.i like to work with friends.if success comes our way friendship
doubles.its because of the successes we gave that made us stars. when we
join with someone prominent the expectations to do something
  increase.atpresent i am working on amir's
gazini.later a movie with manirathnam sir.the subject has importance to
music.i have full work in my hands.
int:are your children immersed in music?
arr:my eldest daughter kathija is learning hindustani under ghulam
mustafa.i have told only one thing to him. dont teach her music keeping
my songs in mind.i dont want anyones influence to be on her.i might be
becoz of that, that she is not listening to my music at all.my second
daughter rahima is always with her ipod in her hands.she is a great fan
of mine.even the first one.if she smiles listening to my tune then

[arr] Aamir Khan deeply involved in Ghajini remake

2007-08-30 Thread Thulasi Ram
*Aamir Khan* http://www.apunkachoice.com/people/act16/ is actively
participating in all aspects of the making of the Hindi version of Tamil hit
'Ghajini'.

It is common knowledge how dedicatedly Aamir has been working out to acquire
a chiseled physique for his leading role in the Hindi remake of
*Ghajini*http://www.apunkachoice.com/movies/mov622/.

  http://media.fastclick.net/w/click.here?sid=18489m=8c=1

Besides working on his character, Aamir has also been deeply involved in
other aspects of filmmaking. He has been taking keen interest in the
recording of the film's music. In fact, he makes sure to be physically
present when the film's music director *A R
Rahman*http://www.apunkachoice.com/people/act63/works in the
recording studio.

Aamir has also been very open about giving suggestions and opinions to the
film's director A R Murugadoss. Whenever the actor is not satisfied with
some shot, he insists Murugadoss to retake it.

It would be an overstatement to say that Aamir is calling the shots on the
sets. His active participation is intended for the betterment of the
project.

Sources close to Aamir say the actor himself plans to direct more films in
the future and therefore he involves with different aspects of filmmaking to
learn new things.

Aamir has already directed his home production *Taare Zameen
Pe*http://www.apunkachoice.com/movies/mov849/, which will be his
next release.

Ghajini/Ghazini was heavily inspired from Hollywood flick Memento
which is a classic.
Tamil version did give lot of scope for acting for the lead actor.
Otherwise it holds tremendous commercial appeal for the Indian movie-

Re: [arr] Re: Aamir Khan deeply involved in Ghajini remake

2007-08-30 Thread sri ram
Ghajini as such is not a movie that is out of this world. It is a story of one's
vengeance which the director tries to tell in Memento fashion.
And as Aamir said he was not happy with the last half hour and asked for a
change which was accepted by director Muragadoss.
But in Tamil it was the protagonist's and the girl's performance with some
standout songs that pulled the class audiences to the theatres.
But with Aamir's touch and of course with our Isai Puyal, the movie should be
much more rocking than the original.
