Re: [arr] We need to be like Michael Jackson: AR Rahman
Don't get baited by the deliberately manipulated headline. That's so common of most Indian media outlets these days. They'll misquote or twist a statement into making people curious and having them to click and read the article. ARR was talking about the versatility that is required of Indian composers these days-- they need to do pop (like the music of Michael Jackson), orchestral (like John Williams or Hans Zimmer) and folk music. The article deliberately misses the 'a' before Michael Jackson to give it a different meaning. And please, can you type in clear English. Thulasi Ram [EMAIL PROTECTED] com wrote: http://www.dnaindia .com/report. asp?NewsID= 1118142 AR Rahman tells Myleene Klass of CNN about evolution of music in Indian films Do you think the use of music in Bollywood films has become slightly more sophisticated? Yeah, there is a film called 'Rang De Basanti' which also was the official entry from India for Oscars, and this film, when I was doing it, I never knew that the music would reach so many people across the globe. report continued below Latest News on DNAINDIA.com •'BJP is the outsider in UPA-Left marriage' more » •UPA-Left mechanism on deal likely this week more » •Probe ordered into Mayawati's profile on Orkut more » more » The songs were lip synced, just used like a background, but it seemed to blended well with the screenplay and the story. So I think it clearly proved that the people are changing and they are looking forward to more sophistic and non cliché stuff. Was there a growing division, do you think, between films, between Indian films that are favoured by rural audiences and urban audiences? I think the line is becoming thinner and thinner, really, because, unlike a couple of decades ago where people didn't know anything about the happening outside. Now people know what it is that Hollywood and Chinese films are made of. This influences people and so filmmakers are compelled to do stuff which is world class. I can see that the past six years a massive change has happened and there are extraordinary filmmakers who are evolving. What do you think are the qualities of a truly great composer? One needs to transcend somebody by even if it is just one instrument theme. And now the challenges of the composers are much more as its not just about composing a great theme. One needs to know recording, production and how to intertwine music with the movie. And with Indian films it is an even greater challenge, because we need to be like a Michael Jackson or John Williams, Hans Summer and an Indian folk composer and put all of them together. So they expect finesse and they expect versatility. Luggage? GPS? Comic books? Check out fitting gifts for grads at Yahoo! [arr] Semi-ARR: Bhansali approaches Bachchans for Bajirao Mastani
Bhansali approaches Bachchans for Bajirao Mastani Sanjay Leela Bhansali has approached the Bachchans Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya for his next, Bajirao Mastani. He had originally planned the historical to be his next release post Hum Dil Chuke Sanam (1999) but the project has been delayed for lack of an apt lead pair. After going through varied options he has zeroed in on the newly married star couple. Aishwarya was always Bhansali's first choice for the courtesan's role and he had dreamt of making the film with Salman opposite her playing the 18th century Peshwa king and Rani Mukheree his wife, Kashibai, a source close to Bhansali informs, Both Salman - Ash were a pair off screen then. But following their break up, the bearded director decided to maintain close pal Salman and started looking around for Mastani's part. Name of top model, Shivani Kapoor too was discussed then. He then settled upon on Kareena Kapoor and even gave interviews about his choice claiming she possessed the pathos of Meena Kumari and the fire of Nargis and that she had a completely different aura of attitude, personality, beauty and femininity. But after everything was confirmed he decided to postpone the project and make Devdas with Shah Rukh Khan instead. Post Devdas, when everyone was expecting the pending project to take off, Bhansali surprised everyone again by announcing his songless Black with Big B and Rani Mukherjee, keeping his historical aside, yet again. the source says. http://news.indya.com/newsDetails.aspx?xfile=2007/August/News_20070830_258 - Got a little couch potato? In fact, he makes sure to be physically present when the film's music director *A R Rahman*http://www.apunkachoice.com/people/act63/works in the recording studio. Aamir has also been very open about giving suggestions and opinions to the film's director A R Murugadoss. Whenever the actor is not satisfied with some shot, he insists Murugadoss to retake it. It would be an overstatement to say that Aamir is calling the shots on the sets. His active participation is intended for the betterment of the project. It is a sequel of Shekar's very popular - Oscar winner and multiple Oscar nominee - Elizabeth. Big names like Kate Blanchett, Oscar nominee Clive Owen and Geoffrey Rush are involved in this project. The first movie was made at a budget of $25 million and garnered more than $60 million all over the world, and also bagged an Oscar for the best make up. Apart from this, it was also nominated for the Best Actress in a Leading Role award, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration award, Best Cinematography award, Best Costume Design, including Best Picture award and not to forget the Best Music - Original Dramatic Score by David Hirschfelder. David will also work in this colossal project along with A.R. Rahman. The sequel of Elizabeth is getting much bigger with much higher budget. Also, chances are high for A.R. Rahman to be nominated for an Oscar. Shekar Kapur, one of the finest directors that India has ever produced is very optimistic about this movie. It will be released in the US this October and Indian audience can catch this movie in the theatres only by next year. Hope we get good news by January and better news by March. Hi That's really wonderful...kept the spirit and the feel of the poetry alive. Since it is so very difficult to translate poetry without letting go the feel, it's all the more commendable. [arr] Re: Aamir Khan deeply involved in Ghajini remake
Ghajini/Ghazini was heavily inspired from Hollywood flick Memento which is a classic. Tamil version did give lot of scope for acting for the lead actor. Otherwise it holds tremendous commercial appeal for the Indian movie- goers. -Vinod --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Pravinder Sheoran [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: those who have seen gajini was it a quality movie? please tell me pravinder --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Thulasi Ram karokelip@ wrote: *Aamir Khan* http://www.apunkachoice.com/people/act16/ is actively participating in all aspects of the making of the Hindi version of Tamil hit 'Ghajini'. Re: [arr] Re: Aamir Khan deeply involved in Ghajini remake
Ghajini as such is not a movie that is out of this world. It is a story of one's vengeance which the director tries to tell in Memento fashion. And as Aamir said he was not happy with the last half hour and asked for a change which was accepted by director Muragadoss. But in Tamil it was the protagonist's and the girl's performance with some standout songs that pulled the class audiences to the theatres. But with Aamir's touch and of course with our Isai Puyal, the movie should be much more rocking than the original. - Original Message From: Pravinder Sheoran [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, 31 August, 2007 4:38:58 AM Subject: [arr] Re: Aamir Khan deeply involved in Ghajini remake those who have seen gajini was it a quality movie? please tell me pravinder --- In arrahmanfans@ yahoogroups. com, Thulasi Ram [EMAIL PROTECTED] .. wrote: *Aamir Khan* http://www.apunkach oice.com/ people/act16/ is actively participating in all aspects of the making of the Hindi version of Tamil hit 'Ghajini'.
