UTV offers GOAL and JODHAA AKBAR!

With both its forthcoming ventures, JODHAA AKBAR and DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL
having been postponed, there is news that UTV is willing to sell the
distribution rights of the two awaited movies.

As per reliable distribution/trade buzz, UTV is asking for a sum of 80-crore
for the world rights of JODHAA AKBAR and 40-45 crore for DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL.
And yes, if some one were to buy both the films, there would be a discount of
10-crore!

While on the reasons being thrown for JODHAA AKBAR'S postponement, the most
recent one takes the cake. It says that A R Rahman did not complete the
background score and that is what delayed the film. Well, we wonder whose skin
is being saved here by this amateurish rumour because it is well known that
Rahman only does the background score, once the film is complete!

more than creating in his studio effects on his creativity, our boss has always
managed himself, his style, his passion, his simplicity, his honesty in studios

if he is performing live in concerts, he is only doing for us (all fans), he
never works for money, he only works for music, he is the best, we all should

What do you think about ARR giving too many concerts in the recent

Is it restricting his creativity in any sense? The fact remains that
a lot of time is channelised for concerts in the form of rehearsals(a
coupla months or more for a concert). Apart from the obvious
advantages of performing live (monetary and reaching more people),
would it be better if he dedicates more time composing music than
merely recreating his own scores on stage?

Whats your say?

[arr] Excerpts from RAHMANIA Radio show (Singer Karthik)

2007-09-08 Thread Aravind AM
Hi all,

As I promised, I am back - with tidbits shared by Sujatha, Karthik and Raihana
on Rahmania show
(I'm writing all of these from my memory, so, pls excuse any inaccuracies)

Karthik:
I was such a big fan of Rahman sir, I never even dreamt that i could become a
playback singer, let alone singing in Rahman sir's music. Singer Shrinivas is a
relative of one of my friends, and thru my friend i got to meet him. I really
wanted to meet him, because he is closely associated with Rahman At that
time, I thought 'i donno if i can ever meet rahman sir, It would be great to
meet someone who has closely interacted with him'!!
But, Shrinivas sir asked me if i could sing, and he asked me to give a cd with
my voice, and he passed it on to ARR... almost a year later, Shrinivas sir
called and told me that I needed to go to ARRs studio... I couldnt believe it..
it was for a harmony part... It was great!!

I have sung harmony for many songs, including the latest 'sana nana... ma mana
nana' bit in Adhiradi (Sivaji). Tippu, Devan, I and others used to have great
fun during the harmony recordings... Even a year after I first sang for ARR, he
used to get confused between me and Tippu, and often used to refer to me as
Tippu!!! He would want tippu to sing a part again, but would say 'Karthik,
please sing it'... and i would start off... and he woud say 'oh... i meant
KARTHIK' but pointing to TIPPU!! It was great fun

Even after singing so many songs as the lead singer, I still long to sing
harmonies for him...It is a whole new learning experience.. Each time I work
with him, especially for harmonies, i learn a lot...Even recently I called up
Rahman sir and asked him if there are any songs for which I could join in the
harmony...

That's pretty much what I found really interesting about ARR, from Karthik's
interview... I will write excerpts from Sujatha's interview in my next mail...

Cheers,
Aravind

Re: [arr] Walk the Talk ....Rahman on NDTV (yes manafcp)

2007-09-08 Thread Sarathy S

Yes manaf :-) i noticed rahman quoting more about his favorites. Obviously
everyone here knew this 'walk the talk' program must have happened when rehman
was in bombay to launch jgm dvds (before Aug.15th) with those many interviews
we saw... i meant to say ndtv releasing now only on 7th sept. to say it is
new interview not something we missed to catch it now. Arr nicely pointed
out, about 60s 70s is a golden era not just for kollywood or tollywood or
bollywood but everywhere in the world when considering world music too... Arr
perfectly said a big vibration in world all over during 60s-70s to get all new
music. really something to cherish to be appreciated about those many
legends in music in every part of world who created their tunes without much
guidance from their seniors without technology, gadgets n all they able
to create songs that are still green n liked by all long lasting.. they
became the guiding force to next set of composers in
80s so on now technology took over the lead at the same time quality
of music creativity too leading in every genre be it classical music or film
music or non-film, though there are some composers who could not come with more
creativity.

[arr] how i got the music of great genius and human being

2007-09-08 Thread Elements
hi guys

let me have your concentration on this, (don't mind for long mail, as it is
still short for me)

it was the winter season in 1993 (december perhaps, i dont remember the date,
would be it was jan 1994, anyway), i was watching zee tv as time the satellite
facilities were very expensives and not reachable, i saw a song chotti si
asha, i realised that there is something different in this song as i was not
very familiar with music that time i had used to listen micheal jackson, ace of
base, maria carey whitney houstan.

anyway next day, i was in my friend's home (whose brother was the owner of
music store), he was listening the same song on his audio player, i asked him
to give me the cassette so i can listen at home, you believe or not guys, i
listened the song chhotti si asha several times full day, i listened the
whole album within a week, i watched the movie also and the music was
absolutely very very very nice and mind blowing, i forgot to listen others
artists which i mentioned above, again the same coincidence happened with me at
friend's home, he was listening the song mukaala (it is in 1995), i liked the
style, i purchased the cassette as i purchased roja, same thing happened with
Bombay after, one name i noticed and that was non - other than our boss A.R.
Rahman.
no doubt Rangeela was a super hit and its music was the biggest bonanza of
the year, I watched the trailors on Zee Tv and i saw the name of this very
young genius man, i went to the market to buy the album but i got the cassette
after 1 month, as is was the biggest hit and was out of stock every week, i
read First Original Hindi Music by A.R. Rahman. on the cassette outlet, and
this came in routine, i used to buy all his albums till today, and due to the
facilities like internet, i used to collect his articles, interviews whatever
was possible for me. In 2001, i got one website www.rahmanonline.com, the
superb website, by time by time i got all his updates through google search,
yahoo search, and last but not the least, this wonderful group.

till today and throughout my entire life, i am thankful to ALLAH, that He has
blessed me (us) with the wonderful harmony, genius simple human, a mozert of
asia, isai puyal, Allah Rakha Rahman. May ALLAH bless his showers of mercy on
our boss, his family, his team his friends with healthy wealthy and long
life, may this music journey never ends (aameen).

thanks to this wonderful group, sorry guys for such a long mail, but i'll
look forward for your thoughts.

hey kumaresh nothing wrong.. yes there r more people to enjoy dance for
those songs have fun of it rehman had been giving some kuththu songs from
his first movie roja... rukumani rukumani song. (unless it is of period
films) he presents it in different way some of his kutthu songs comes
with folk beat some of it wear modern look with western beats..
vusilampatti song from gentleman / mAnA madhura ooh la la la... from minsara
kanavu / veerapAndi kOtaiyilae from thiruda thiruda / katheerikka from duet /
chinnamma chilakamma from meenaxi. the list goes on to godfather (varalaru)
to guru (maiyya maiyya song though arabic influence it also comes into kutthu
genre only).. as pawan said it is branded as item song in bollywood (missed to
mention one famous family kuththu non-arr song - kajra re - bab). v can
also count bangra type as punjabi kutthu songs dandiya as gujrati
kutthu... what about qawwali fast beats ? :-) though in all these
varieties, lyrics may be taken granted for different situations...

I was such a big fan of Rahman sir, I never even dreamt that i could become
a playback singer, let alone singing in Rahman sir's music. Singer Shrinivas is
a relative of one of my friends, and thru my friend i got to meet him. I really
wanted to meet him, because he is closely associated with Rahman At that
time, I thought 'i donno if i can ever meet rahman sir, It would be great to
meet someone who has closely interacted with him'!!

Cheers,
Aravind

[arr] Arr...why is he not crediting Illayaraja

2007-09-08 Thread anishshreya
Guys,

In the interview with NDTV...arr seems to credit alot of old
composers like MSV and KV Mahadevanbut he seems not to credit
Illayarajai am sure there have been alot if stuff he learnt from
IR.Maybe he should also credit Illayaraja evenly. Talking abt names
like visha shekar and shankar eshan loyi would have been glad if
he would have rather said something abt ilayaraja where in terms of
class..he is far apart from many composers in the 80s.

Comeon...afterall...our boss came from illayaraja school When Gangai
Amaran brother of illayaraja can credit arr...why not our boss? Boss
should really speak abt IR in some intervoews and the days when they
were working together.

Arr always

[arr] Re:Concerts and Compositions

2007-09-08 Thread Vijay Kumar
He appears to be enjoying these concerts and the travel that comes with it.
At least, that's what some of my friends who interacted with him during one
such concert found out. I guess he combines these travels with some business
meetings as well.

Can't deny him that, can we?
