yes rightly said, only rahman can produce classical songs that have devinity in
them and that can touch the soul. He has produced a lot in hindi films like
lagaan, water etc but it would be great if he do it in tamil.

Sunder Bhai

I agree TOTALLY ! Rahman is long overdue for a classical and
critically hit album in Tamil. We have seen and heard quite a few
commercially correct albums recently. However, when we talk about
Rahman's classics, we always come upto to his pre-2000 movies.and
stop there !

I miss "Thota Thota" / "Nathiye Nathiye" / "Vellai Pookkal" / "Nan
Padum Sandam" / "Raasathi" / "Pacchi Nirame" kind of melodious songs.

Surprised about the 100% Tamil song selection ? Even though I am a
non-Tamil speaking person, I rate his Tamil songs HIGHEST amongst all
songs for the melody. When the Tamil movie songs were taken as
something standard, he dared to do different and he did it superbly !

Rahman has a strong foundation in Carnatic music and together with
his expertise in Western classical and rhythm, I guess, he is
definitely planning something which pleases the critics.

Yes, haven't heard NAVIN's flute in recent movies either.. .

Best regards

Roobaroo' with Naresh Iyer in Mission Ustaad - ARR
To: a r rahman

Roobaroo' with Naresh Iyer in Mission Ustaad

9X TV and A.R. Rehman get together for a unique
reality show "Mission Ustaad". Here is a talk with the
blue-eyed boy of Rehman,Naresh Iyer who is one of the
missionaries in the show.
What happens when television channel joins hand with a
legendary Singer-Composer, and has many celebrity
guests gracing the show with a great new show theme,
and all this for a very noble social cause? A
revolution takes place and history is created. That's
exactly what is going to happen in the next few days.
A brand new Hindi general entertainment channel 9X to
be launched on 11 th November at 9PM IST, by INX Media
will for the first time partner with legendary music
director and singer A R Rehman, the United Nations and
Endemol for a truly unique and entertaining show
titled - MISSION USTAAD, deemed to be a mega
blockbuster show that will feature Rehman himself and
some of the best singers and stars of today, who will
provide engrossing musical entertainment for a cause.
The show has a key objective in mind. Through music,
it wants to reach out to the Indian masses and along
with entertaining it, wants to generate revenues to
help meet the UN Millennium Developments goals - the
rights of each person on the planet to food, decent
work, health, education and shelter.

Playback singer, Naresh Iyer, who is playing the role
of one of the missionary in the show, also has lot of
expectations from this show. "It is more or less a
reality based show, but different from other shows. It
is all happening for a very good cause. It's a musical
show but the only thing that makes this different is
that this is music for a cause. And every one of us,
all the missionaries you could say, have gathered for
this cause and we are all trying to achieve this
mission. All are trying their best in their own way
according to their talent and capability. "
Naresh was a contestant in the reality show on Channel
V "Super Singer" where A R Rehman was also one of the
judges. Even though he did not win the contest, he
became Rehman's protégé since. So how does he feel
working with Rehman in another reality show again? "
It's always a pleasure working with him. But here, it
will be totally a different thing altogether. Singing
in a studio, learning the song, and then recording in
front of him is an experience in itself. But here it's
more of a live performance. And he is again there on
the jury. In the previous contest when I sang in front
of him, I was more of a contestant who knew nothing,
but today I am actually more or less going to perform
in front of him as a playback singer, that too with
others in the background who are also playback
singers. So I am expecting a total different
experience. "
>From these comments, one thing is sure, the show seems
to have its objective right. The channel and their
protégé's are leaving no stone unturned to make this
dream project and reality show, a great success. How
successful, the show or concept or the mission will
be, only time can tell. We from Telly Buzz can at this
point, only wish them the very best in their future
endeavors. If music can provide the food, then why
not!

Also want to add that having only 5 songs seems a bit less for a
period film, esp. since Rahman was interviewed as saying that "there
are lots of songs in it". Personally, I feel that two songs were in
fact chopped off, but Ashutosh doesn't want to admit that right now
for some reason. I could be wrong. If there are only 5 songs, I am
hoping that we get to hear some instrumental tracks.

[arr] Re: Classical numbers

2007-11-05 Thread arr_raghu
Its difficult to count..
Assuming classical means a carnatic based number here..
It depends on how an individual classifies a certain song as classical.
Most of the ARR classicals are fused with some other genre like
folk, jazz, trance or sufi..
If you ask about classicals in every genre..there are way too many.

[arr] Re: 5 SONGS IN JODHA AKBAR

2007-11-05 Thread Vinod Raju

Here's that mid-day new item below (which Rajeev mentioned).

Jodhaa Akbar well under three hours
   By: Tushar Joshi
   November 5, 2007
-

Ashutosh Gowariker denies reports that he has chopped songs to
tighten the length of the period film, hurries to complete shooting

Most period films have a running time of three hours or more. So, it
wasn't surprising when everyone one heard that Ashutosh Gowariker's
much- anticipated period film Jodhaa Akbar had crossed the three-
hour mark. Naturally, there was concern about the length of the
film, and the director decided to shorten the film by chopping some
songs.

There are rumours that Gowariker had chopped two songs — a romantic
duet and a qawwali featuring Hrithik and Ash. Sources also added
that Ash apparently loved the qawwali and requested Gowariker to let
her use Rahman's composition in another film.

Ashutosh, however, rubbishes these speculations, "I haven't chopped
any song from the film. It was always supposed to have five songs
and that is how it is." When further questioned about the length of
Jodhaa Akbar he adds, "I am not having any problems with the length.
This film does not have a cricket match!"

Time constraints

Ending speculation about the length of the film, the director
states, "Jodhaa Akbar is well under three hours."
Keeping in mind the time constraint and the film's release date in
January, Ashutosh has been rushing through to complete filming. He
recently shot the last song for the movie at ND Studios, Karjat.

"Ash has been shuttling between her Pink Panther shoot and Jodhaa
Akbar. In fact, she's quite excited after seeing the rushes and
can't wait to complete the final schedule."

[arr] Water in Tamil

2007-11-05 Thread Sunder
Hi guys

I wish ARR comes up with a classical music, full of melody like he did in
water. He has done Kandokondaen kandukondaen, sangamam before, but they are not
pure classical albums. It would be great if he does that. What you guys say?

[arr] ATM Synopsis

2007-11-05 Thread Vithur
http://www.nowrunning.com/film/preview.asp?movieNo=3509

Synopsis
Azhagiya Thamizh Magan (ATM) is about a youth possessing Extra-Sensory
Perception (ESP). This is a typical 'Thalapathi' Vijay film eagerly awaited
by his fans and it is sure to provide a delightful feast for them during
Deepavali.

In this action thriller, Vijay play a character of two different shades. The
storyline itself is kept under wraps. And director Bharathan, a former
associate of Dharani, says that there is plenty of twists and turns in the
film and it will be a gripping entertainer with all the ingredients of a
box-office hit.

Vijay is given company by Shreya and Namitha. This is the second film for
Shreya after the release of AVM's blockbuster "Sivaji: The Boss". Glamour
girl Namitha, who has attracted a large fan following after her foray into
Tamil cinema, is pairing with Vijay for the first time.

The choice of A.R. Rahman as the music director for this flick is considered
significant, as he has not worked for any Vijay film after "Udaya" which was
long forgotten. There are in all six numbers, including a re-mix of "Pon
Magal vandal". All the songs carry the unmistakable stamp of Rahman with
brilliant tunes. These songs are already topping the charts. Cinematographer
Balasubramaiam has given good support to Bharathan to make ATM a visual
treat.

Zikr - Hasbi Rabbi Jallallah part is an Islamic song which has a
slightly different tune, but the tune ARR has used is not exactly
original. It is also slightly based on an Islamic verse song that
goes "La Ilaha Illallah .. Muhammadur Rasoolullah".

Hope I have cleared the confusion.
Thanks

2007-11-05 Thread nishaj abby
RAKESH HAS A POINT PALS!
I ONLY HAVE 1 THING TO HIGHLIGHT HERE...

HJ IS BETTER THEN ARR
YSR IS BETTER THEN ARR
SD IS BETTER THEN ARR
IR IS BETTER THEN ARR
MS IS BETTER THEN ARR
IN FACT ALL REST OF THE MD's ARE BETTER THEN ARR ...

... TO BE IN 2ND BEST, BECAUSE NO ONE CAN BE THE BEST EXCEPT ARR

NO DOUBTS!

Subject: [arr] ANY DOUBTS-- PLZ LEAVE THE GROUP

Hi all Rehmaniacs,

I am a die hard Rehman fan and member of this group for quite a long time and
occasionally i write my comments. But i check the emails everyday. But in
recent times i have seen a trend coming up in this group that some members
question the ability of ARR.

Look guys i don't have to tell you what ARR is but its really annoying that
someone will have a "keeda" ( sorry, i couldn't find a better word.) and he
says Yuvan is better than ARR, HJ is better than ARR.. HR better..ARR Losing
touch..This album not good.. that album was better.. and all that crap..and
sorry to say our members fans that small spark to make it a full fledged
discussion of sort..

I also like other MD's work and appreciate it when a song is good but never
thought that this will de-thorn ARR. Even ARR like other MD's work (recent ex..
he likes Maula Mere Maula from Anwar by Mithoon)

If somebody think that ARR has lost his touch and he is not delivering.. , then
my humble request is plz take your belongings(likings on other MD's..) and join
their respective community..

I love it when the members discuss which is the best classical song by ARR,
what we felt when we first heard this song and that album.. Com on guys we
should discuss all this .. The man.. His albums..His Songs.. His magic..

If i hurt somebody's sentiments.. then sorry.. but i could stop writing my
feelings..

ARR Rules.. Always

Rakesh

Re: [arr] IS YUVAN THE FUTURE A.R.RAHMAN...????serious topic

2007-11-05 Thread Ashwin Saravana Kumaar
No one can replace any one. IR was not a replacement for MSV, ARR was
not a replacement for IR. Similarly, YSR is not or cannot replace
ARR. There is no replacements for legends and one can't be compared
with other. YSR should stand on his own.

[arr] Re: BGM by other MD's in Rahman's movies

2007-11-05 Thread vkjvinoth
Dear All,

Don't give any false statements, As far as in Tamil following movies
BGM scored by other MD in RR film.

1. Jodi - Sabesh Murali

2. Udhaya - Praveen Mani

3. Parasuram - Praveen Mani

These are the only 3 films that ARR didn't work on the BGM because all
these films had some difficulties like shooting, dates, Producer, ARR
have completed the songs in given dates, afterwards the film got
delay. once the film finished everything! ARR is busy with other
movies so if they wanted to release they need somebody to do the re
recording... It's Not ARR's false...

Long Live ARR
