Thanks a lot Vithur.

 Vairamuthu Neram – Jesudas Songs

Have you realized a magnetism in any voice ?. Observe the songs of Jesudas
with concentration. His voice is nature 's bounty. In that voice, you have
magnetism, strangeness and is a miracle. When that voice utters the language
, you can very well recognize the way he loves the lyrics and sings it. Its
imminent in itself. When he sings of love, it is doubtless love. When he
sings sorrowful songs, its doubtless sorrow. When he sings about kindness,
its doubtless kindness. I consider the natural feeling to be in borne in his
 voice.

 *Pachai Kiligal – INDIAN *

Film Name is Indian. Music is by A.R. Rahman. Director is Shankar. We are
waiting for recording the song . There was an argument within ourselves,
before the singer Jesudas could come to the spot. All the lyrics of the song
are good. One part of the lyrics seems to be little tough for singing, and
seems to cause little hindrance to the singer. Can we change it is the
 argument going on…

The lyrics which caused the argument was

Pattam Poochi Koothutukku Patta Edhukku ?.

Pattam Poochi Kottam …. Till these it was Ok..The lyrics Patta Edhukku ?
seemed to be sounding very strong. The Tamil there appeared very strong. Can
it be sung ?. Will it be comfortable to the tongue ?. or else it would break
the tooth ?!!! and this was the argument going on

I told, the lyrics was very well within the tune of the song. Let the
singer come and let him sing the song , and at the time the singer sings,
and if he feels it to be uncomfortable to his tongue, and separating the
tune, then I would change it and give. If he is able to sing it well, then
leave it, as its a beautiful thought to have the lyrics that way.

Jesudas came. He wrote down the song. He sang the song. Through his gentle
voice, and handling the lyrics with care, he transformed that part into a
 beauty.

We gave a stone to him. But, he through his voice transformed it into a
beautiful sculpture. When people who know singing sing, even hard lyrics
become easy, but when people who don't know singing sing, even easy lyrics
 become tough ones.

P.S. The Audio Files of VM speaking about Jesudas is uploaded . Enjoy.

[arr] Track ordering in an album ....

2008-08-13 Thread Anil Nair
Do ARR (and other MDs) decide the ordering of the tracks in an album or is
that dictated by music companies/director et al.

By order I mean - the order in which the songs follow each other in a
CD/Tape ..
for instance in JYJTN it was

Kabhi Kabhi
Pappu
Jaane Tu (female)
and so on ...

Typically my ipod is always on the shuffle mode (and hence I used to hear
the tracks in the album in random order) - lately I have switched off the
shuffle mode and hear out the album in the original order and thats what got
me thinking

There were no problems in the songs of Super Police and Gangster. They were

How can one generalise that AR cant do well in Tollywood ???.

2008-08-13 Thread Vithur
Sukhwinder Singh is on a high pitch these days. The singer has just recorded
a song for Danny Boyle's Hollywood project Slum Dog Millionaire starring
Irrfan Khan, Anil Kapoor and Dev Patel. A R Rehman, who scored the music,
approached me with this song called Jai Ho. It's in Hindi and has been
written by Gulzar. It's very stylish and artistic, like all Rehman's songs
are, says Sukhwinder. He got so excited, that the Punjabi hip-hop artiste
went on to record the song 20 times. Rehman asked, 'Now who is going to
edit it?' Because there 20 versions, reveals Sukhwinder. Slum Dog... is a
comedy about an illiterate kid trying to get onto the Hindi version of Who
Wants To Be A Millionaire to reach the girl he loves, an ardent fan of the
show. After this, Sukhwinder will record a folk song from Kutch for Steven
Spielberg's next film.

[arr] When I met GOD

2008-08-13 Thread Vithur
http://vimalsparadise.blogspot.com/2008/07/when-i-met-god.html

When I met God

Now for the actual incident - I am referring to A.R.Rahman as God here. The
below picture was taken at ARR's residence soon after his live concert in
Chennai for the MARG Group on Feb 9th 2008. I won the tickets for the show
through the net and I was at the show enjoying, when my friend, Dhanya, from
Times Now called me. She had an opportunity to conduct an interview with ARR
and she wanted to know if I would be interested in meeting him. She asked me
to leave immediately if I wanted to and also mentioned that there are
chances that the interview could get cancelled. I could attend his concerts
again, but meeting ARR personally at his residence is like once in a
lifetime. However, listened to a few songs during the concert, took a few
photographs and rushed home to get ready. I got a call at 10.20pm from
Dhanya asking me to reach ARRs residence in 15 mins. ARR actually stays
about 10 mins away from my place and getting there wasn't difficult at all.
(Every time I pass his residence, I would slow down my bike and peep to have
a small glimpse; but never been lucky.) My dream of meeting him is finally
coming true. I reached there on time and Dhanya was waiting for me outside
with the rest of the crew. Initially, we were made to sit in his waiting
room that was under construction and I was helping the crew with their
cameras and stuffs. A Toyota Innova rushed in a little later and we were
then asked to make ourselves comfortable in the sitting hall. In 5 mins, ARR
came in humming some song; probably he was in his composing mode. He was
wearing the same attire that he had worn during the concert and asked
everyone if it was fine. A great person, indeed, he had committed a time
slot for the interview after the concert and without any starry tantrums,
and without even a minute rest, he sat with us. I have read so many articles
on ARR being humble, modest, etc; but none of them mentioned about his wits.
The man truly rocked that night with his witty one-liners. Whatever I write
about him here would be less; we all know how he is. After the interview, my
friend introduced me to him and she asked him if he could pose for a snap
along with me. He readily agreed and we had a few very normal conversations
during the photo session. How I wish I could have told him that I would love
to be a part of his team. How I wish I could have told him that I sing and
that I would want him to listen to me atleast once. But I did'nt want to
take advantage of the situation as I felt it would look bad on my friend and
Times Now, so had to keep my mouth shut. Moreover, there were people waiting
for him outside, probably some more interviewers. Nevertheless, I could not
ask for more than this. During the concert his presence made a lot of fans
go wild with happiness but for me .. I stood in silence with happiness..
so dumbstruck I became on seeing him and so blind I was with my happiness that
neither did I have words to express then nor do i have it now; he made me
the happiest among all his admirers.

*Long live A.R.Rahman !*

A film that has been in the news for over two years now,19 steps,
an ambitious production by Warner Bros is said to feature the Dasavathaaram
duo, Kamal Haasan and Asin, together again.

19 Steps, a movie based on the script of MT Vasudevan Nair, will be an English
movie, with music by Bharat Bala's long time friend and associate, AR Rahman.

Kamal has been reportedly approached to play the role of a Kalaripayattu guru.
Asin plays a princess. The movie will also feature Japanese star Tadanobu
Asano, who will be paired with Asin.

Speaking to Expresso from Mumbai, Bharat Bala, an ad filmmaker who has made
albums like Vande Mataram and Jana Gana Mana, said Negotiations are on. So it
wouldn't be right to comment on them now. An official announcement is expected
next week, when the director will be returning to Chennai.

It may be remembered that the project was announced over two years ago, with
Mohanlal said to be playing the role that Kamal Haasan has been offered.
However, it never materialised. Finally, it seems like Kamal Haasan will be
doing the role.

Kamal Haasan in Indo-Japanese film on martial arts!
12th Aug 2008  13.45 IST
By ApunKaChoice

If things go as planned, Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan will be seen rubbing his
shoulders with a Japanese superstar in a film on martial arts.

To be produced and directed by Bharatbala, the movie will reportedly feature
Japanese superstar Tadanobu Asano, who played a Samurai in Takeshi Kitano's
superb film 'Zatoichi', which was about a legendary blind swordsman.

The Bharatbala film will trace the roots of the martial arts, down to
Kalarippayattu, the popular and age-old martial art form of Kerala.

The movie will reportedly be made in three languages – Tamil, Hindi and
Japanese. The project is learnt to have a whopping 50-million dollar budget.

According to reports, the film will be co-produced by Walt Disney.

A R Rahman is already said to be finalized as the film's music composer, while
final negotiations are going on between Kamal and Bharatbala.

The tracks DARKMOON and HEARTBREAK wer truly *WORLDCLASS* POP tracks
that would have challenged PINK FLOYD and MICHAEL JACKSON.. Other tracks
are experiments

As VITHUR said, it wasnt famous... But such a GREAT ALBUM should be
popularized..Otherwise ARR's efforts for tracks like HEARTBREAK and
DARKMOON will go in vein... So the *20th Anniversary* should be made BIG
So that many ppl will come to know that there is such an album..and may be
it would become popular atleast now...

As sahul said, it's not clear what the writer is trying to convey.

May be, he wanted to compile the worst songs of ARR (what he thinks are).

Independence in Indian -- It's ** really ** a great song...
// Thayin Manikodi -- WHich movie? Is he talking about Jai Hind?
// thenrale thenrale (kAdhal desam ) one of the ARR's worst dialogues!!  --
Wasn't written by ARR
// edhuthukku pondatti --- it's totally a different  good one...

// lucky lucky from rakshagan ( tamizh nna evlo velai enru  ketpavaraiyellam
paada vaiththal ippadithan -SPBkku avar (padathil) paadum pattukke chance
kidaikkallai)

Not true. SPB joins with Udhit Swarnalatha in this song in the middle of the
song.. 'Uthadu muzhuthum kayamadi'

// ARR's worst is love birds. There is a song sung by someone (who probably has
never spoken any Thamizh words prior to singing this..)
especially these lines: en thamil kettaal, thaNdavaaLam thuLirkkum..

makkale..makkale.. tune-um maha erichchalaanathu..

-- Not true. It has two great songs... 'Naalai Ulagam' and 'Malargale'

Also, the song he talks about has ARR's great contribution. His voice is really
good and so are some of the lines he sings...

Re: [arr] Track ordering in an album ....

2008-08-13 Thread shahul hameed
I feel its the music director's choice.. Few years back me and my friends
who are ardant fans of Rahman as well used to discuss this in school.. Those
were the times when CDs werent affordable and only cassettes.. If you notice
the last track of Side B in most of the Rahman albums will be the best of
the album.. For example, Anbe Anbe in Jeans, Kaadhalenum therveludhi from
Kaadhalar Dhinam etc.. So we used to discuss saying Rahman is so clever by
keeping the best track in the last so that it will force people to hear all
the tracks of the album just to hear this last track instead of fast
forwarding it.. The course of it will make one understand the beauty
of other tracks in the album, which grows on you on repeated hearings..

On 8/13/08, Anil Nair [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Do ARR (and other MDs) decide the ordering of the tracks in an album or
is that dictated by music companies/director et al.

By order I mean - the order in which the songs follow each other in a
 CD/Tape ..
for instance in JYJTN it was

 Kabhi Kabhi
 Pappu
 Jaane Tu (female)
 and so on ...

Typically my ipod is always on the shuffle mode (and hence I used to hear
the tracks in the album in random order) - lately I have switched off the
shuffle mode and hear out the album in the original order and thats what got
 me thinking

Set Me Free is my favorite album. I like All songs because they are
good, especially the Instrumental piece TAKE 9.

Whoever said that the songs are not like Rahman creations, needs to be
a little careful in making such loose statements.

If this album is re-launched, it will be definitely a winner with so
much awareness generated in the last 20 years about our GURU.

difference because afterall it is our boss whose music is not bound by

any boundaries, language or whatsoever. I am really loving Taxi taxi

Elay is the weakest on the album. Chinnamma and Naan epoudhu are not

[arr] Rehman is more famous, almost an institution

2008-08-13 Thread Vithur
Now Vasu Varma has been finalized as Chaitanya's debut director and Dil Raju
will be the producer. For a while, A.R. Rehman was under consideration as
music director, but now sources say that Sandeep Chowta will be the music
director, but no official confirmation was given out. The reason for
Chowta's inclusion is that Nagarjuna wanted to avoid a lot of hype as Rehman
is more famous, almost an institution, and the producers wanted to avoid a
lot of hype which could put even more pressure on the debutant, from whom a
lot is already being expected.

[arr] Million dollar Chan cameo in 'Nair San'

2008-08-13 Thread Vithur
A.R. Rahman scores the music for 'Nair San'.
Million dollar Chan cameo in 'Nair San'
Jackie Chan will get six times more for a cameo in 'Nair San' than Malayalam
star Mohanlal, who is playing the title role in the biopic.
[image: Million dollar Chan cameo in 'Nair San']
The film is about Aiyappan Pillai Madhavan Nair who opposed British
imperialism.

It will be made at a whopping cost of Rs.2 billion ($40 million), publicists
said.

The Indian thespian will work for over 125 days to play the title role and
will be paid Rs.50 million only, while Jackie Chan will collect six times
that fee for doing a cameo in 12 days, said a source.

Produced by Morpheus Ventures, the film will go on floors in September and
will be extensively shot in Mongolia, Japan and India. A.R. Rahman scores
the music for 'Nair San'.

Madhavan Nair opposed British imperialism in Mongolia and later in Japan.
After the war, he stayed back in Japan and played a major role in shaping
the Japanese economic miracle. For his labours, he came to be respectfully
addressed as 'Nair San'.

In 1984, Nair was conferred a high ranking civilian honour in Japan. He
passed away in 1990.

I am listening Sakarakartti and truly enjoying it (though not
understanding a single word). This is my first ever non-Hindi album as
I am not from India and don't understand Tamil, Telagu etc. However it
was a fantastic experience to give it a try and I hardly felt any
difference because afterall it is our boss whose music is not bound by
any boundaries, language or whatsoever. I am really loving Taxi taxi
and Marudhaani songs and also I miss you da. ARR rocked as always.
Elay is the weakest on the album. Chinnamma and Naan epoudhu are not
new to me though I am really impressed how well these songs are
transformed with the new lyrics, especially Naan epoudhu.

Okay now to the point, would you guys guide me what are ARR's best
non-hindi albums (which have not already been used/dubbed in Hindi)
which I should listen after Sakarakartti? I will really appreciate it.

Guys,

Let's have an insight into our music tastes. Go deep into the psyche ad come
out with one song you consider to be purely divine in nature. It could be any
song and it is also very personal. Often Rahman says that the song comes from
above and that he is just an instrument. So let me start of this discussion
with my personal favourite

MUNBE VAA ( SILLUNU ORU KADHAL )

I know it is many of your favourites. Well, it is not mine. It is not just my
favourite, rather i would say it is my lifeline. The more I listen to this
song, the more I feel rejuvenated. Till today I consider this song straight
from heavens where I imagine the gandharvas playing in the skies and that
Rahman has brought this for the earthlings. No matter how much I write about
this song, I feel empty. I like to speak about this song, listen to this song
and devour this brilliance. Last week a north Indian friend of mine comes up to
me and asks for this song. Being a bit possessive about this song, I was
reluctant to share in the beginning. But the divine nature of this song caught
up in me and pushed me into passing the song to him. Such is the power of this
song. My friend, who doesnt have any idea of tamil, is taken aback by the
composition. I am only glad to exlplain the lyrics and the situation in the
movie. I am blessed

Thanks

Sujith

[arr] What was AR's first ever recording...

2008-08-13 Thread Sunil VG
...as composer? I'm talking long before Set Me Free. Anybody has any idea?
Perhaps a jingle? That piece of work, however small, would be where history
began. It would be great if we could somehow listen to it. Just dreaming!

Regards,
Sunil

2008-08-13 Thread Pradeepan R
Jahanzeb,

you are missing a whole part of life if you don't catch up with ARR's Tamil
compositions :)
Please do urself a favor by listening to ALL of them.
but for a start - you can begin with these movies.

1) Duet
2) Rythm
3) BOYS
4) Kannathil Muthamittaal
5) Kangalal Kaidhu Sei
6) May Madham

For some really rustic-Tamilnadu music you should listen to these.
1) Sangamam
2) Karuthamma
3) Then Kilaku cheemayile
4) Taj Mahal

[arr] Big confusion: Saiyyan song from Nayak

2008-08-13 Thread Jahanzeb Farooq
I am really confused. Is the Saiyyan song sung by Rithisha Padmanabh
in last VOI episode same as Saiyyan from film Nayak? The two songs
sound same but the lyrics are very different. If the original song is
from Nayak then did someone reused it with different lyrics? or it is
some common tune which ARR reused? Could someone plz shed some light
on it?? Thanks.
Here is the link to Rithisha Padmanabh's Saiyyan in VOI.
