Awesome information...We need more and more info like these that bring the
nuances and the magics of ARR in each of his song. I'm sure there will be
many instrumentalists in our group who had played for ARR. Wish they share

Siraj u do have a point buddy.. it is true dat the quality of
discussion happening here has come down..the uniqueness of this group
is not there anymore...When I joined this group abt 3-4years back I
got to know lot of things abt ARR which i never knew...and the kind of
reviews and discussion which took place here really kept me glued to
my mail box...but dat does not happen any more...this was how de Orkut
community with Siraj is referring to lost its charm
The things which made me visit this group 10-15times a day is now lost
I know i will be reading a Google news on ARR here with full
description...

Vithur this is nothing against u ... I really appreciate this man he
spends most of the time researching on ARR

I would like to have the group to be back the way it was ...
Lets not make it as place were we get news abt ARR from various
sources but a place were every single fan comes out and discusses
about The Music,The Magic and The Man...

I think as a TRUE ARR Fan, u should just smile at this and leave it off, rather
than getting pained so much... A true ARR Fan admires the Boss work, and
shouldnt see other MDs with an inferior eye

( No Offense meant... My humble thought pls)

How many of you remember ARR's GREAT BGMs in YODHA? How many of u remember

The latest news is that, the sequel to YODHA, YODHA-2 is having Harris Jayaraj
as the composer. This prestigious project will mark his debut in Malayalam.

The composer himself disclosed about the project, to "Cochin Metro (The Hindu)"
when he was in Kochi last week: http://www.hindu. com/mp/2008/ 08/25/stories/
2008082550310100 .htm

As a TRUE ARR fan, Iam strongly AGAINST IT!!! Such a BIG PRESTIGIOUS PROJECT,
requires GLOBAL MUSIC like that ARR gave 14 years back... It is NOT a project
for a MONOTONOUS HARRIS It requires a VERSATILE composer...
SHANKAR-EHSAAN- LOY would be a better choice And they would JUMP immediatly
and take the offer, as they BADLY want to start their Malayalam career with a
MAMMOOTTY or MOHANLAL movie... Recently the TRIO was replaced by HIT CHURNER
RahulRaj, in the MAMMOOTTY starrer "MAYA BAZAAR". Rahulraj, addressed as
"GOLDEN COMPOSER" has been churning HITS after HITS with his with his
proficiency over a variety of GENRES in world music.

To know more about Rahulraj: http://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/ Rahulraj

Guys... Post your opinions on how the MUSIC of YODHA-2 would be , if HARRIS
scores it
Dont IGNORE this.. Its a PRESTIGE issue for us, ARR FANS... Someone like HARRIS
being the SUCCESSOR of RAHMANJI in the MEGAPROJECT Yodha-2!! RIDICULOUS!! !!

[arr] GHAJINI: Two songs still to be picturised!

2008-08-25 Thread Vithur
GHAJINI: Two songs still to be picturised!

One film, about which we can predict today itself that it is going to take a
flying start, whenever it releases, is Aamir Khan's much awaited action
flick, GHAJINI.

However contrary to the reports about GHAJINI having been completed, the
truth is that there are two songs that still need to be picturised. And that
is in addition to the one day shooting involving Aamir Khan, about which we
had told you earlier this month.
The obvious question that comes to mind is whether Aamir will be able to
finish the whole work in one day? Well, the answer is a partial no. The
reason being that Aamir will not be a part of the two above mentioned songs
that is, he will not feature in them at all!

While on GHAJINI, the film is all set to release a day after Christmas,
which is 26th December, as of now.

Javed Ali: The voice that brings Jashne Bahar
August 25th, 2008

 (No Ratings Yet)

In recent times, two of the biggest hits have been belted out by this person.
The lad from Delhi has a unique voice that oozes innocence and romanticism.
And, of course, melody. Meet Javed Ali, the singer behind the magical success
of Nagara Nagara from Jab We Met and Jashne Bahar from Jodha Akbar.
"Music is in my blood. My father is a well known Ghazal singer in Delhi and I
have trained under him before moving to Mumbai about eight years back," says
Javed when yours truly caught him in a chatty mood. "Right from my childhood I
wanted to be a ghazal singer like my father. I used to come to Mumbai during
vacations earlier, but my voice was completely different then since I used to
sing only ghazals." In one of those trips Javed met Kalyanji-Anandji and after
hearing him sing they advised him to relocate to Mumbai.
"I took their advice and landed in the city of dreams with my bags. My taste
and singing style changed completely after I came to Mumbai. I started training
under Kalyanji for light music. That was during my adolescence and my voice
cracked while training. I had no choice but to go back to Delhi because I just
could not sing," remembers Javed who had almost given up hopes of becoming a
singer after going back to Delhi.
Not one to give up, Javed returned to Mumbai after a couple of years and got
his first break. "Viju Shah gave me my first break in the film Beti Number 1. I
struggled a lot during those days – used to visit every music director and sing
in front of them," recalls Javed. In one such meeting, Jatin Lalit was
impressed with his crooning skills and gave him a qawalli-cum- clasical number
to sing. "It was for the film Haasil and won a lot of acclaim from all
quarters," says Javed.

But the real big break for Javed came when Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy gave him a break
in the film Kyun Ho Gaya Na. "The song Baat samjha karo became a hit. Within a
few days of the song being released, Shankar called me again for a dummy
recording. When the song was being recorded none us thought it would be such a
big hit. Shankar told me that it was a dummy recording, but Aditya Chopra
(producer of the film) heard the recording and liked my voice and decided to
retain that," recollects Javed. The song in question was Kajra Re Kajra Re from
the film Bunty Aur Bubli. "Alisha Chinoi sung the song so well, and the visual
appeal of the song was so much that my singing went unnoticed," says Javed with
a smile.
After that Javed's calendar started getting busier and busier. "I sang for a
number of films like Golmaal, Malamal Weekly, Neil and Nikki and Zindagi Rocks.
My first solo hit, however, is from the film Naqaab – Ek Din Tere Rahon
Mein…and that is when people really started noticing me and realized that I
could sing romantic numbers as well."
"I feel very happy about the fact that most directors recommend my name to the
music directors. For example, even Imtiaz Ali (director of Jab We Met)
suggested my name to Pritam. There are a number of other such instances," says
a proud Javed.
However, Javed feels his most memorable number till date is Kahne Ko Jashne
Bahar from Jodha Akbar. "I was dying to work with A R Rehman and my name was
recommended by a senior voice over artiste – Brij Bhushan. I got a call from Mr
Rehman's office a few days after that and that is how the Jodha Akbar song
happened. It was truly a memorable moment for me when I sung this song,"
explains an emotional Javed. "When I went for the recording, I was so nervous
that my voice was trembling. When I reached his recording studio, it was such a
nice ambience and Mr Rehman is cool like a cucumber. I don't think I will ever
forget the experience. He first made me do a few scratch recordings and then
recorded a qawali in my voice." Unfortunately that song was dropped from the
movie, but Ashutosh Gowariker heard that number and asked Mr Rehman to make me
sing Kehne ko Jashne Bahar," Javed recollects fondly. "I received
congratulatory messages from a number of people
in the industry for my rendition including Sonu Nigam and Shaan."
Javed concludes the chat with a very interesting view on competition in the
industry. "I feel our industry is so big that it can accommodate everybody. So
competition does not worry me. I am only worried about quality."

How many of you remember ARR's GREAT BGMs in YODHA? How many of u remember
those DIFFERENT songs which sounds fresh even today??

The latest news is that, the sequel to YODHA, YODHA-2 is having Harris Jayaraj
as the composer. This prestigious project will mark his debut in Malayalam.

The composer himself disclosed about the project, to "Cochin Metro (The Hindu)"
when he was in Kochi last week:

As a TRUE ARR fan, Iam strongly AGAINST IT!!! Such a BIG PRESTIGIOUS PROJECT,
requires GLOBAL MUSIC like that ARR gave 14 years back... It is NOT a project
for a MONOTONOUS HARRIS It requires a VERSATILE composer...

SHANKAR-EHSAAN-LOY would be a better choice And they would JUMP immediatly
and take the offer, as they BADLY want to start their Malayalam career with a
MAMMOOTTY or MOHANLAL movie...

Javed Ali: The voice that brings Jashne Bahar

August 25th, 2008

[image: Javed Ali]In recent times, two of the biggest hits have been belted
out by this person. The lad from Delhi has a unique voice that oozes
innocence and romanticism. And, of course, melody. Meet Javed Ali, the
singer behind the magical success of *Nagara Nagara* from *Jab We Met*
and *Jashne
Bahar* from* Jodha Akbar*.

"Music is in my blood. My father is a well known Ghazal singer in Delhi and

After that Javed's calendar started getting busier and busier. "I sang for a

says a proud Javed.

However, Javed feels his most memorable number till date is *Kahne Ko Jashne

fondly. "I received congratulatory messages from a number of people in the

Javed concludes the chat with a very interesting view on competition in the
industry. "I feel our industry is so big that it can accommodate everybody.
So competition does not worry me. I am only worried about quality."

[arr] Santoor Player Seenu Talks about ARR

2008-08-25 Thread Vithur
Santoor Seenu talks on Rahmania

Happy Chennai Day to all

Q :- You have been playing 25 Instruments. How did u develop the
earnestness and how did u start playing ?

SS :- Its God's Gift. The second Plus point is Mr. A.R. Rahman.

Q :- Did u meet Rahman after he became a Music Director or you knew him
before that even ?

SS :- Before, he became a Music Director, and when he was working with other
Tamil Films, we were associated with him. He has taught us a lot of new
things. Santoor is usually played in tune with Raagas. He specially taught
us about Chord Progression and scale changes. I learnt Western, while he
used to play the keyboard, and used to do the backing. During recording
times, even some of our notes, he used to play it in his keyboard. Some bits
used to be tough, even for us and for him too. The difference is he has ten
fingers and can easily play them , while we have two sticks to play the
santoor, and find it tough. With these sticks, we can play it in 2.5 octave
and 3.5 octave. But higher octaves would be little difficult. The duration
time is also very minimal for us. A recording has to be finished within 6
hrs. He teaches us a lot during recording sessions. I started developing
interest, when he did the chord backing and progression etc, to make us feel
comfortable while working. He became a good friend, because of these
associations.

He called me for Roja. For the song, " Chinna Chinna aasai". We have to play
santoor for the song. But it shouldn't sound like santoor. Instead of
playing with the stick, he suggested we play with the ten fingers in the
song. In the second BGM of that song, in the left hand, the chord
progressions would be going on, and in the right hand, the melody would be
continuing. That is the first time in my life, that I played the santoor
with my ten fingers leaving alone the stick. The speciality is the usage of
Harp in the beginning of the song. Mandolin is used in the song beginning
itself. I had played all the three instruments in the song ( viz. Harp,
Mandolin, Santoor ) . The song became a super duper hit.

Q :- Where have u used the Mandolin Instrument ?

SS :- Super Star Rajni Sir 's song " Oh ho Kick Yerudheee ( PADAIYAPPA )".
The song was prepared primarily for Mandolin, and he asked me to prepare the
same and get it. During Recording, he usually would ask to get about 10 to
15 instruments. But he told me to get one mandolin for this. I understood
that there is something special about this song, as he wanted just one
mandolin to be brought for the song. I understood that there is going to be
something difficult in the song, else he wont tell particularly about the
Mandolin Instrument. Even many Mandolin players had told me, that it's a
difficult bit to be played. Many people have tried playing it in concerts
and had suffered playing it. Many had rang me up and asked me " How did you
manage playing it ?" I like the song very much, as we strained a lot in
playing the same.

For the film " Sangamam:, our Master MSV Sir was involved. We are all from
his school of music. He has lot of love in me, and he was on the recording
session for that film. Hariharan sir sang the initial bit and went off.
Rahman sir brought 40 rhythms and mixed it. He told me to get all the
instruments that I possessed for this song. When I started from my home,
with all the Instruments, the neighbours asked me If I was leaving my home
for another house ??.

I brought all the instruments in five auto rickshaws..I replied to them
saying, " No No. Rahman sir had called for a recording. He had instructed me
t get all the insruments, for trying something new".

   1. Rubob
   2. Sauce
   3. Mandolin
   4. Utilin
   5. Basukin

We had mixed all the six instruments into the rhythms to make it perfect,
and the outcome was brilliant.

I loved playing the Guitar Style in Nenje Nenje from ratchagan. This I loved
the most. Actually, in guitar style comes in the sarodh style. There is a
separate style for Guitar and a separate style for Guitar. One who can play
both the instruments can do it. He told me to get both the instruments. In
the second BGM of that song, in that classical guitar portion, he wanted a
melody and on top of it, use the sarod style. That sarod bit was a very
difficult bit. He didn't leave me till the last. Somehow he wanted me to

it would be very tough. The fingering would be very tough. We can play the
instrument maximum in two fingers only.

He told me " If you cant do, then who else is there. Try it. You will get

2008-08-25 Thread !--Sri Balaji--!
Hi Siraj,

I am writing my experience. Indian Classical Arts called Rahman fans of Yahoo
Groups to work as volunteer for the ARR's concert held at Bangalore on October
8th 2005. Gopal arranged for that. That you all know. I am one among the 45
volunteers.

In that concert, at rehearsal times, ARR wearing a sea blue full hand T-shirt
and danced with kids in the stage. It was a rainy day. The school kids are
eagerly awaiting under the shelter to get onto the stage for performance.

I asked a Kid, can u speak some words about Rahman in Tamil who's(kid's) mother
tongue is tamil. He denied to talk in Tamil and started speaking in English
about Rahman. He said that he is going to dance for Vande Mataram song holding
small flag in his hand.

That kid adds up his favorite performing song is Vande Mataram. That moment I
realized how ARR inspired even a kid.

Thanks,
sribalaji.

[arr] [Semi-ARR] - HARRIS JAYARAJ for YODHA-2 (MALAYALAM)

2008-08-25 Thread kishore parayath
How many of you remember *ARR's GREAT BGMs *in YODHA? How many of u
remember those DIFFERENT songs which sounds fresh even today??
The latest news is that, the sequel to YODHA, YODHA-2 is having Harris
Jayaraj as the composer. This prestigious project will mark his debut in
Malayalam.

The composer himself disclosed about the project, to "Cochin Metro (The
Hindu)" when he was in Kochi last week:
http://www.hindu.com/mp/2008/08/25/stories/2008082550310100.htm

As a TRUE ARR fan, Iam strongly *AGAINST IT!!! *Such a BIG PRESTIGIOUS
PROJECT, requires GLOBAL MUSIC like that ARR gave 14 years back... It is *NOT
*a project for a MONOTONOUS HARRIS It requires a *VERSATILE*composer...
*SHANKAR-EHSAAN-LOY *would be a better choice And they would JUMP
immediatly and take the offer, as they BADLY want to start their Malayalam
career with a *MAMMOOTTY or MOHANLAL* movie... Recently the TRIO was
replaced by HIT CHURNER *RahulRaj, *in the MAMMOOTTY starrer *"MAYA
BAZAAR". Rahulraj, *addressed as *"GOLDEN COMPOSER"* has been churning
HITS after HITS with his with his proficiency over a variety of GENRES
in world music.

To know more about Rahulraj: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahulraj

*Guys... Post your opinions on how the MUSIC of YODHA-2 would be , if
HARRIS scores it*
*Dont IGNORE this.. Its a PRESTIGE issue for us, ARR FANS... Someone like
HARRIS being the SUCCESSOR of RAHMANJI in the MEGAPROJECT Yodha-2!!

[arr] How AR Rahman’s lead guitarist Rashid Ali belted out a chart-topping song

2008-08-25 Thread Vithur
*http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Direct-Hit/352877/*
**
*How AR Rahman's lead guitarist Rashid Ali belted out a chart-topping song*

When writer-director Abbas Tyrewala penned the lyrics of the runaway hit
Kabhi kabhi Aditi, he kept the brief simple — a positive, happy, young song.
As AR Rahman's lead guitarist Rashid Ali took to composing the opening riff,
little did the 42-year-old know that he would be doing more than just
strumming the guitar, that he would also be singing the song.

"Kabhi kabhi Aditi is a song in which Rahman has experimented with the
musicality of the track. And since the Indian audience is hungry for new
sounds, it has worked well," says Ali, in town for a Big FM event, about the
song that Imran Khan lip synched to in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na.

The UK-based Ali is an artist with Rahman's record label KM Music. They met
seven years ago in London. "He saw one of my performances, liked my style of
music and things just took off from there," says Ali. He has sung Kahin to
hogi in Jaane Tu¿ Ya Jaane Na and Ishq ada in Ada, apart from singing a
Tamil tune in K. Balachander's Paarthale Paravasam a few years ago. While
many consider Rashid a veteran guitarist and a debutant singer, he says it
is the other way round. "I am essentially a singer. Being able to play the
guitar and sing add to my advantage as a musician since it allows me to
compose," says the musician, who worked on the musical Bombay Dreams as
well.

"I understand the Indian tonality of songs but I keep my style of singing
and composing different, something that blends in different kinds of music,"
says Ali. He is a self-taught musician whose most important influence have
been his mother and the ghazals she sang. While jazz, Latin and Arab sounds
went on to leave their mark over the years, Bollywood too was present in his
scheme of things. "I have grown up listening to Bollywood," he says. While
Ali has been visiting India regularly for the past seven years, he is now
staying put in Chennai for a while, busy working on his first solo album,
for which which he has sung as well as composed, and is due for release in
the coming months.
