[arr] Euphoric Bollywood hails Rahman's Oscar win
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/euphoric-bollywood-hails-rahmans-oscar-win/86076-8-17.html New Delhi: Music maestro AR Rahman's wife used to wake up in the middle of the night and say, I want you to win an Oscar. Now he has won two. It's not only her dream that has turned into reality at the 81st annual Academy Awards, it's a milestone for Bollywood too. Bollywood celebrated as Rahman bagged the Oscars for best original score in Slumdog Millionaire and its theme song Jai Ho. Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap is all praises for the singer-composer. He said, “This is a happy moment for all of us. We all should celebrate because he (Rahman) has made us proud. Finally we did it!” Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who has worked with Rahman for his films Rang De Basanti and Delhi-6, says the singer-composer truly deserved the award. I am proud and so happy that it's AR. He brought north and south India together when he started composing music and now he has successfully bridged the gap between the east and the west. It's incredible! There are more people in the West who know him now than they know about his work, Mehra told IANS. * Congratulate Rahman, Pookutty on their Oscar win Rahman, the first Indian musician to win the annual Academy Award, was listed for three of the film's 10 Oscar nominations – one for his original score and two others for songs composed by him, O Saya and Jai Ho. According to singer Mohit Chauhan who has sung in Rahman's latest hit composition Masakalli from Delhi-6, this Oscar win is an inspiration for the Indian music industry. It is very encouraging. Rahman is a great inspiration for all the musicians in the country. And it's a great honour also. Our films are going places and so is our music. We can look ahead to good times, said Chauhan. Veteran filmmaker and critic Aziz Mirza says, The international recognition that Rahman has earned for himself makes every Indian proud. He deserves it more than anybody else for his wholehearted dedication to music. It's a rare honour. I congratulate Rahman. Southern actor R Madhavan feels Rahman should have won an Oscar the very first time he composed music because he truly deserves it. Actress Divya Dutta hails the composer and says she is extremely proud of his win. Like every Indian, I am very happy about the win. I was sure Rahman will come back with the award. The film was amazing, said Dutta. Before this, only two Indians have won the Oscar in its 80 year history – Satyajit Ray was given the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992 and Bhanu Athaiya won the best costume design Oscar along with John Mollo for the 1982 film Gandhi.
[arr] India erupts with joy, says bravo Rahman!
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/india-erupts-with-joy-says-bravo-rahman--gift-a-bouquet/86070-8.html New Delhi: Composer AR Rahman created history on Monday for India by getting two Oscar awards for his music in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire “I want to thank everyone. The essence of the film is optimism and hope. All through my life I had the choice of love and hate…I chose love and I am here,” an elated Rahman said. Minutes after the award, singer SP Balasubramaniam told CNN-IBN, I feel as though I have got this award. I know this boy from his childhood and I am really proud of him. The entire country is proud of him. There is a lot everyone can learn from him. Actor Saurabh Shukla, who also starred in Slumdog said, You can see it on my face, I am absolutely thrilled. It is an amazing feat for us all. While director Bharat Bala who has worked with Rahman for years said, I have known him for the past 25 years. He is the true slumdog millionaire, coming from a simple background and has reached here with sheer hard work, commitment and has achieved all this. * Euphoric Bollywood hails Rahman's Oscar win * Congratulate Rahman, Pookutty on their Oscar win * Gift a bouquet to team Slumdog His music has an emotion which penetrates to all people, Indian or whosoever they be. Only this time he has connected to a bigger audience,” Bala added. Singer Lata Mangeshkar said Rahman is a different kind of composer and she is proud of him. Congratulations to Rahman he has made the country proud. This is for the first time an Indian has won a Oscar in the music category. I am proud of Rahman. He is a different kind of composer. There is a lot of variety in his music. He gives full freedom to the singer, she said.
[arr] Double Oscar honour for A.R. Rahman
C.RaviPrakash Mon, Feb 23 09:53 AM Los Angeles, Feb 23 (IANS) Indian music maestro A.R. Rahman became the first Indian to bag two Oscars for his work in British filmmaker Danny Boyle's much acclaimed 'Slumdog Millionaire', which tells the rags-to-riches story of a Mumbai slum dweller. He got his first Oscar on the night of the 81st Academy Awards here for best original score for the Mumbai-based drama. The composer was overwhelmed and interspersed his speech with Hindi as well as Tamil on receiving the coveted trophy here Sunday. 'There is a dialogue from an old Hindi film - 'Mere paas ma hai' - which means I have nothing but a mother. My mother is here, I have her blessings. I am glad she could be here,' said Rahman. He ended the acceptance speech by saying 'God is great' in Tamil, something he says after winning every award. He shared the second Oscar for best original song for the film's theme number 'Jai Ho' with noted Indian lyricist Gulzar. 'All my life I had a choice between hate and love. I chose love and I am here,' said Rahman after receiving his second golden statuette. Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/invite/

[arr] Thought provoking statements to us (The mankind)
Hi, It may be history or it may not be part of history(what ARR is capabale of), definitely this moment had etched the minds of millions, our ARR receiving two oscars with in 15 minutes He was confident and commanding and delivered thought provoking statements to us (The mankind) Between hate and love he chose love that's why he is there… Oh what a statement! The strength of his music lies in leveling the mind/heart/soul of the listener weather he or she is white or black, Asian or European, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, Muslim or Christian. Its an AN UNIVERSAL LEVELER One need just a single quality, open your mind, listen, allow his songs to imbibe you slowly. that's all……. In between, I learned something new today ,I came to understand that when you are really sad and despair youcan prevent yourself from weeping, but when the joy of happiness, satisfaction, fulfillment makes you weep you hardly can control it. 18 years of NON STOP, healing and soothening for soul thank you….. I celebrated this moment by distributing sweets to my colleagues, staffs and patients. [arr] A R Rahman's sister elated with win
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Cities/Rahmans-sister-in-Chennai-is-elated/articleshow/4175754.cms CHENNAI: musical genius A.R. Rahman's sister Reihana couldn't stop thanking God and the prayers of millions of Indians on Monday for her brother's double win at the Oscars for his work in much acclaimed film Slumdog Millionaire. It is God's blessing and all the accolades to Him (God), Reihana said as she watched her brother stride towards the Kodak stage in Los Angeles to receive his second Oscar for Danny Boyle's rags-to-riches story. We are elated. Rahman has won, thanks to the whole nation's prayers, Reihana, a well-known Tamil music composer and singer said. She had not yet called up her brother to congratulate him, but said she would speak to him soon. I don't want to disturb him in the middle of his glory at the function, right now. When he gets back, we will express our delirious happiness and much more... We are speechless, said the ecstatic sister. Rahman picked up the awards for his best original score as also the best original song Jai ho from the film with lyrics by Gulzar and Sukhwinder Singh as the lead singer. Asked if she had any special gift in mind for her brother, Reihana said: I haven't planned one as yet. But I think Rahman should give me a gift since I prayed so hard for him to win! She once again stressed that it was God's blessings that had made Rahman triumph at the Academy Awards. Once he returns, Rahman and I and the rest of the family will go on thanksgiving pilgrimages to several dargahs (Muslim shrines) to express our gratitude to God for blessing us so mercifully and in such magnitude, Reihana said. We hope this means more Hollywood offers for Rahman after this, the proud sister added. Accolades for the music maestro poured in from his colleagues from the film industry here. Tanvi Shah, who sang part of the Oscar winning number Jai Ho, jumped with joy and said that Rahman had won the Oscars for the whole nation. I'm just so thankful to God for this. Rahman deserves every bit of this. This award is for India, said Tanvi, who watched the entire Oscar ceremony with her family. I was crying throughout the ceremony and praying really hard for him to win. The one person our team is missing the most is sound engineer H. Sreedhar, the sound engineer who created the final copy. Sadly, he passed away recently, she added. Madhumita, who sang Liquid Dance and Millionaire in the movie, is also elated. Jai Ho Rahman sir! You have done our country proud. I feel so blessed right now to be a part of 'Slumdog Millionaire' and am on cloud nine, she said.

As I was about to get on the car, to drive to this place (foundation-laying ceremony of Rajaswa Bhawan), we got this exhilarating news that A R Rahman has won both Oscars for which he was nominated, the Home Minister said. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and a host of revenue department officials were present at the function. When asked whether such tax exemption would be given, CBDT Chairman S S N Moorthy refused a direct reply, saying this is a policy decision. Why? Well, you have to keep up at 6.30am India time and get glued in front of your television to watch your favourite Hollywood celebrities grace the glamorous red carpet and walk the world famous aisle to get seated inside the esteemed Kodak Theatre where the fortunate few will be bestowed with the golden statuette. What makes it special though is the fact that for the first time in the history of the Oscars, more Indians than ever before will be walking the much talked about walkway with their heads held high, cheering, supporting and leading their *Slumdog Millionaire* team to victory, and believe us, Bollywood and *Bollywood Hungama* is buzzing with excitement and anxiously waiting for A.R.Rahman and Resul Pookutty to win their first ever Academy Award. Back in the West, Hollywood was busy with preparations for the big night where hundreds of people have been working for all week to lay the red carpet, assemble the tents and decorate the pathway that'll be filled with photographers, journalists and celebrities on the high-status Hollywood Boulevard. *The Knight called Oscar -* So before the coveted golden figure is given away to the deserving few, let us brief you a bit about this Oscar statuette, officially called - The Academy Award of Merit. The most recognized trophy in the world, the Oscar statuette has stood on the mantels of the greatest filmmakers in history since 1929. Shortly after the formation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1927, the fledgling organization held a dinner in the Crystal Ballroom of the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles to set out its goals. Among the topics discussed that night was how best to honor outstanding moviemaking achievements and thereby encourage excellence in all facets of motion picture production. Agreeing to institute an annual award, the group turned its attention to creating a suitably majestic trophy. MGM art director Cedric Gibbons designed a statuette of a knight standing on a reel of film gripping a crusader's sword. The Academy tapped Los Angeles sculptor George Stanley to realize the design in three dimensions - and the world-renowned statuette was born. Since the initial awards banquet on May 16, 1929, in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel's Blossom Room, 2,701 statuettes have been presented. Oscar stands 13½ inches tall and weighs in at a robust 8½ pounds. The film reel features five spokes, signifying the five original branches of the Academy: actors, directors, producers, technicians and writers *The Glitz, the Glamour and the Golden show -* The Night we've all been waiting for ended in flamboyant fashion. India wakes up today to celebrate the super success of the two Indians who've made us swollen with pride. It's time to rejoice the achievements of the entire *Slumdog Millionaire* teamespecially A.R. Rahman who is the first Indian to win two Oscars and Resul Pookutty to have won one. Wow! And all the other great filmmakers who've shown us some of the best films which the 2008 brought to the big screen. *Bollywood Hungama's* London correspondent and Harrow Observer columnist Devansh Patel does the honours on an early Monday morning over a cup of hot masala chai and with battery running low but all in good time when the handsome Hugh Jackman came up on the Swarovski crystal highlighted stage. The stage was so close to the flawless audiences that all the nominees could actually get their hands on the golden statuette. The who's who of Tinsel town graced the red carpet just like they did at the BAFTA's. Nothing special, apart from Angelina Jolie bending the rules and wearing black, and hey... here come grinning Dev Patel and demure Freida Pinto, who appears to have shown up without her secret husband, which is a shame. Notebooks out: Pinto confesses that her dress is by John Galliano. Anil Kapoor in his Armani black, A.R Rahman and Resul Pookutty in their Indian black and all the small, petite and cute actors who played the young Jamal and Salim graced the red draped in black. [image: A R Rahman]Inside the Kodak Theatre, *Slumdog Millionaire* was the undisputed winner with 8 Oscar trophiesand boy they gave their acceptance speeches with pure gusto, emotion and joy. Resul Pookutty came up on the star studded stage where he was bestowed with his first Oscar Award for Sound Mixing when he said, *This is unbelievable. We can't

[arr] Air of euphoria wafts in Chennai
At 6.45 am today, the morning raga from a tea shop at Kamaraja Nagar adjacent to music maestro A R Rahman's house in Chennai was a radio song composed by A R Rahman for the film Taj Mahal. Yes, there was an air of hope and strong optimism even in the surrounding areas when the golden moment of Oscar announcement was in the offing. .At 7 am, Vishunath, a small boy, who usually disposes milk packets to A R Rahman's house on Dr Subaraya Nagar 4th Street, did his business as usual and told this reporter that 'I am expecting that good news!' At the same time in a studio at A R Rahman's KM Music Conservatory, behind his house, around 100 faces were curiously watching on a big screen where the live telecast of this years' Oscar announcement was taking place. They were close allies of Rahman's studio- sound engineers, technicians, students and their families. Whenever the name Slum Dog Millionaire appeared on the screen they all went up in an uproar mixed with enthusiasm. But when the final announcement which bestowed the great Indian music legend Rahman with two Oscar awards they were literally speechless. In a second they all stood up with fast beating hearts and burst out 'Jay ho..' Many of them hugged each other; some ran out of the studio to fix the fire crackers as if they did not have a single moment to lose for the much awaited gala celebration. Dr Subaraya Nagar 5th Street suddenly woke up in jubilation as many of them jumped and kissed other on the road while firecrackers were burst in the backdrop. 'I am so happy,' said an overjoyed Praveen, an office boy with A R Rahman's studio while running outside. Following suit was S R Kalesh, a foundation (vocal) student in KM Music Conservatory. 'We collected Rs. 50 from all in advance for the celebration and now comes the million dollar moment! We were sure that A R Rahman will make it,' said he. Swami Durai, a technician with the studio, failed to express his reaction as a mixed mood overcame him. 'We are so happy and excited to hear this news. I don't know how I can express my feeling now,' is what Janaki Sivakumar, a technician's wife in Rahman's studio, told New Today Ningal oru kadavul maathiri. What you predicted is now a reality,' said another exhilarated man to his friend over a mobile phone. 'It was a wonderful moment for me to witnesses all these celebrations. And I am happy about these awards. A R Rahman's deserves more recognition,' commented Will who came from U S to meet his sister, who is working as an assistant of A R Rahman. The crowd and neighbours were on their feet with 'Jay ho...' at 5th Dr Subaraya Nagar Street once again. 'I am proud to be his neighbor,' said a thrilled Dr Jayakumar. Chitra, who is residing behind Rahman's house, said, 'My husband Dr Ramamurthy is like Rahman's family doctor. We know them for many years and these achievements go to our family.' Cine actor-director R Parthiban, who happened to be a witness to all these celebrations, cut a cake with ' Jay ho..' on it and distributed it to the people down the street. And then once again the crowd said in unison: 'Jay ho..!' http://newstodaynet.com/newsindex.php?id=15182%20%20section=12

Hi All, I was waiting from a long time to send this message. Now here we are, less than 1 year from that statement, now we have ARR winning not one but 2 Oscars. I am really happy and want to convey to all those fans, that it was obvious for him to get the Oscars because of his sincerity, hardwork, originality, simplicity and above all GODs chosen gifted son. Bhushan Kumar: Rahman has finally got his due -- February 23, 2009 3:11:32 PM IST Rachana, Bollywood Trade News Network [image: Send to Friend]http://www.glamsham.com/sendlink.asp?page=http://www.glamsham.com/movies/scoops/09/feb/23-bhushan-kumar-rahman-has-finally-got-his-due-020901.asptitle=Bhushan%20Kumar:%20Rahman%20has%20finally%20got%20his%20due [image: BHUSHAN KUMAR and A.R.RAHMAN] *BHUSHAN KUMAR and A.R.RAHMAN* Hurray!!! Its celebration time for India. As our music mogul, the man of the moment, A R Rahman has done it. The maestro has become the first Indian music composer to win the coveted Oscar. And that too, 2 Oscars for a film (one for Best Original Score and another for Best Song 'Jai Ho'). This was for the first time that an Indian had won more than one nomination in the history of Oscars and bagged the prestigious award. After having won various accolades including the Golden Globe the BAFTA's, all hopes were pinned on Rahman's winning Oscars. Now that he has brought home the coveted trophy, it's a dream come true not only for the music maestro but also for billions of people back home, who've been waiting eagerly for Rahman to get the award. Definitely we all are proud and happy of Rahman's success but one such company who is extremely elated and struggling hard to contain its excitement for Rahman is the music giant T-series who were also a part of the SLUMDOG team. We trust Rahman to the core. We know it's a big moment for T-series as the SLUMDOG music rights are owned by them. So we had a quick speak to the head honcho of T-series Mr. Bhushan Kumar. How confident was he and his team about the music, did he ever in his wildest of dreams, thought of it becoming such a rage across the world sweeping maximum awards? ''When it's Rahman in the picture you will never give a second thought. Or ever question about its music. By default it has to be the best. Secondly when SLUMDOG came it was Rahman who gave us the music rights which he had. So I bought the rights on Rahman's recommendation. Our association with Rahman is from long time and we trust him to the core,'' explained Bhushan, On asking about their association and being successful as a good omen, Bhushan, now being more proud about the associations said, ''Actually both of us are lucky to have each other. We feel highly proud to have associated with Rahman. Our trust factor will always remain on him.'' After SLUMDOG winning the Oscar, in what way it will create a difference to the music giant T-series considering its already existing prominent status in the music scene? How would it affect the company in carrying forward the legacy of providing great music? Replies Bhushan in an energized tone,'' Our music sales have always been good. But I feel now it will go beyond. It will greatly affect our value. People across the world know about SLUMDOG, its music so in a way it will create a high repute for our company amongst them too. They will easily relate to our name.'' So, how does Bhushan plan to celebrate the BIG achievement? Says Bhushan, ''At the moment we don't know in what way we express our joy. All we can say is that we are extremely happy and feeling lucky to be a part of SLUMDOG. It's absolutely a proud moment for all of us.'' And Bhushan's feeling for Rahman's success, ''I am extremely thankful to him (A R Rahman) for having trusted us. He is a genius. He is finally getting all his dues for the amount of hardwork and efforts he has put in all these years.'' http://www.glamsham.com/movies/scoops/09/feb/23-bhushan-kumar-rahman-has-finally-got-his-due-020901.asp
[arr] A R Rahman on his Oscar win
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India/A-R-Rahman-on-his-Oscar-win/articleshow/4176791.cms MUMBAI: Overwhelmed after winning two Oscars for his score in 'Slumdog Millionaire', music maestro A R Rahman on Monday said that one has to work without expectations and he had never thought that the music would go so far. When you have strings attached, you only want to please certain people...I feel it is a corruption in the mind. I believe that you have to work without any expectations. I feel that you have to be true to the film and its emotions, said Rahman through an audio conferencing from Los Angeles. On the Oscar-winning song 'Jai Ho', penned by veteran lyricist Gulzar, Rahman said, Words have the power. Words formed action and intention of life. I often argue with lyricists not to use words that have a negative impact. The idea of 'Jai Ho' came from Subhash Ghai when he was working on the music of his last film 'Yuvraaj', the music director said. I am very excited and grateful to the good wishes, prayers and love of Indian people and Americans who voted for me, he added. Responding to a question on whether winning two Oscars for his music would mean bidding goodbye to Bollywood, Rahman said, I do not know. I have taken advances from my producers in India and I have already spent it. So I am committed to completing all my projects. On whether Indian talent is being treated on par with Hollywood, Rahman said, everybody treated me as an equal. Hollywood stars like Angelina Jolie, Steven Spielberg and Penelope Cruz came up to me and congratulated me for wining these awards. Only we feel that the Hollywood does not recognize our efforts, Rahman said. Meanwhile, director Danny Boyle described the film's clean sweep at the Oscars as absolutely thrilling. Danny said that he made the film because he loved making it, regardless of what happened to it. India is a reservoir of talent. Talent is indisputable and it will open its own doors to international opportunities, said Danny replying to a question on whether the film's run at Oscars was a window of opportunities for Indian talent on the global platform. Danny said he hopes to return to Mumbai to make a thriller. I am already in talks with a couple of people on this project, he added.

[arr] Modest Gulzar says Rahman made Oscar possible
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/modest-gulzar-says-rahman-made-oscar-possible/86087-8.html New Delhi: Lyricist Gulzar who was also named in the achiever's list of Oscars is modest about the win. He shares the Oscar with music composer AR Rahman who won the coveted award for his composition of song Jai Ho in Slumdog Millionaire that swept eight awards at the Kodak Theatre. Gulzar hands out the credit to Rahman without reservations. In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, Gulzar said, The real credit of the award goes to Rahman. I am happy for him beyond my joy for myself. I mean it when I say this, I am not mincing words. A Hindi lyricist cannot ever hope to make it to the Oscars. The place for Hindi songs is missing at the Oscars. This song made it to the Oscars only because it was bound by a winning composition. That is the good luck of the Hindi song. The noted lyricist had his own reasoning about why it was an out and out Rahman achievement. I have a sense of joy and of achievement though. Anyone linked with Hindi cinema will not deny that reaching the Oscars is a huge milestone. I am unable to act out my emotions on the lines of an actor. The only thing is that I could never have hoped for an Oscar for lyrics, maybe for Direction. But life afforded me that joy and here I am enjoying it. While accepting that his lyrics did contribute the song, the lyricist added the other contributing names too. Behind this composition by Rahman, there are two factors. One is my lyrics and who can forget Sukhwinder's voice that gave life to the song. For him I would say Jai Ho. This was not the first time that Gulzar had worked with the simple yet noteworthy composer. I have worked with Rahman before, have composed many like Dil Se before, with Chal Chhaiyya Chhaiyya being one of them. But my favourite remains Aye ajnabi tubhi kabhi toh bhi kabhi awaaz de kahinse.

Maybe Danny would prefer AR this time as it is again in India? --- On Mon, 2/23/09, Prakash Balaramkrishna prakysn...@yahoo.com wrote: From: Prakash Balaramkrishna prakysn...@yahoo.com Subject: [arr] A R Rahman on his Oscar win To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Date: Monday, February 23, 2009, 2:37 AM http://timesofindia .indiatimes. com/India/ A-R-Rahman- on-his-Oscar- win/articleshow/ 4176791.cms MUMBAI: Overwhelmed after winning two Oscars for his score in 'Slumdog Millionaire' , music maestro A R Rahman on Monday said that one has to work without expectations and he had never thought that the music would go so far.
[arr] Rahman nervous before Oscars, finally left it to God
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/rahman-nervous-before-oscars-finally-left-it-to-god/86090-8.html Los Angeles: As AR Rahman held the Oscars for best original score and for best original song Jai Ho for his work on Slumdog Millionaire during the 81st Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre, there were many who were not present there but felt cheer for someone who they had worked with before. One such person was celebrated adman cum lyricist Prasoon Joshi. I am completely freaked and so thrilled that I feel like I have won it myself. I am in the US and I spoke to him last night and we spoke for a long time. I tried to know how he was feeling and whether he was nervous. I did sense that he was nervous and all of us prayed for him I told him that he had always believed in doing his work and forgetting about the rest to which he replied in the affirmative, said Joshi. Prasoon Joshi has penned the lyrics to Rahman's composition in Delhi 6 was elated at Rahma's Oscars haul. As for my belief, I think this is not his best work, he has done much better work in the past. You know, right now I am in a gathering where people are asking me about the film Slumdog Millionaire and the body of work Rahman has done apart from this film and details on how they can obtain his earlier work. So I think that this win at the Oscars will inspire people to look at other pieces of work that Rahman has done, Joshi said. Loveleen Tandon, the Assistant Director of the film Slumdog Millionaire is elated over the Best film award and the Best Director award that the film won at the Oscars. Loveleen had accompanied the kids, some of whom came from slums of Mumbai's Dharavi, to the celebrated Oscars gala in Los Angeles. Speaking to CNN-IBN, Loveleen Tandon said, The most special thing is that the kids could come and they are all here. It is really like the fairy tale that the film is. That is really the journey that the film has had and the journey that the kids have had. It is fantastic. It has really made my day to be with them and to see the sparkle in their eyes. It was not just the joy in the kids' eyes that satiated Loveleen's heart she said. People have been just walking up to us, especially to the child actors and congratulating them. People are so moved by all that we do not need any introduction anymore. You know Brad Pitt stood up and the moment he saw the kids walk out, he started clapping and he made the way for us as I was taking the kids on the stage and kept clapping while looking at the young ones. That is incredible, said a very touched Loveleen. She had been responsible for the casting of the kids in appropriate manner for the film. Actor Irrfan Khan who plays a role in Slumdog Millionaire was elated too. It is a very proud moment for all of us This award is going to change the relation between the Indian cinema and Hollywood. Now our music, our films will be played in every household, said Khan.

[arr] Jai Ho blessed by lord Shiva : Sukhwinder
Well-known singer Sukhwinder, who has sung Jai ho from the film Slumdog, feels that Jai ho's popularity and victory is blessed by lord Shiva because it's not a song but a prayer to the almighty. Today when the whole country is celebrating Slumdog's historic Oscar win, Sukhwinder is busy with his Mahashivratri pooja. He feels that it s time to remember the almighty who has bestowed good luck to him. Speaking exclusively to NDTVMusic.com he says,Today is Mahashivratri and it s lord Shiva who blessed me and the whole team of A R Rahman to get this international honour. Jai ho is not just a song. It connects me spiritually to the Almighty. It has spiritual connection. I was confident that the song will win Oscar because you know the Oscar award ceremony has taken place on this spiritual day of Mahashivratri. Recalling one of his previous songs Chhaiya Chhaiya from the film Dil Se, he says Chhaiyan Chhaiyan got international acclaim because it was blessed by Baba Bulleshah. I have a lot of faith in him. And now it's Jai Ho, which has Shiva's blessings. Asked if he is disappointed for not being present at the Oscar Award ceremony, he says, No, I am not disappointed because Jai Ho has achieved what we expected and the international glory has come to the country. I don't regret it in terms of my personal loss for not performing at the Oscars but yes I feel that had I performed there, it would have a matter of pride for our own countrymen. Indian music has already a had magical effect at the Oscars. Sharing the reasons behind missing the opportunity to be present at the Oscars, Sukhwinder said, I was supposed to get a performance visa from Fox but they botched up and it delayed. Anyway this is not something bothering me much. I am very happy and satisfied that lord Shiva has showed his love and we achieved. On being asked about his association with Rahman, he said, See, it was destined for me, Rahman and Gulzar ji to come together and script this success. What to talk about Rahman? He is a genius. Rahi baat Gulzar sahib ki to unke likhe shabd ki jitni bhi tarrif karon kam hai (As far as Gulzar is concerned, you can never find enough words to praise him). I was really thrilled when I heard words like Zariwale Aasman. He is excellent. So the combination has done what it was destined to do. ndtv.com
