My wife Gifted me one, i was so happy to listen to it, but when i heard,i
couldnt hide my disappoinments, listen to that 3 rd cover version, we should
file a law suit against them, so that next time no one would listen to it again.

Just imagine this way, if a foriegner buys it & when he listens to it what will
he think of Rahman's music, he will convey a different perception to his
country men.

So we should stop this. This should condemnded

Fellows,

This is serious and sad. T-Series who had bagged Rahmans top audio contracts
for last year including slumdog has released a cheap, real cheap signature
collection containing absurd and horrible cover versions of several of Rahman's
tracks, including Maa Tujhe Salaam.

Just listen to Faana and Maa Tujhe Salaam...i am sure you will puke.

Listen to this horrible piece of garbage here and you will know what i mean.
The disgusting cover versions are for those tracks for which T-series does not
have rights. But then why do a cover? Get yourself to see.

20Collection% 20Part%201- id-148927. .php

This is by far the worst way to capitilise of Rahman's popularity post academy
awards. This cheap product has to be withdrawn from the market if possible.
Else, we totally boycott this from our catalouges.

I bought the last remaining 5 copies from a nearby music world and threw it in
trashcan...

Is there a way to let Rahman's management know about this?

[arr] ‘It feels good to meet fans, but not 6,000 at once’

2009-03-20 Thread Gopal Srinivasan

‘It feels good to meet fans, but not 6,000 at once’
... says music director AR Rahman, who made his first public appearance in the
city post the Oscars
SHILPA BANSAL

HOW would you feel if AR Rahman dropped by at your place just like that? It
happened to Mr and Mrs Mohammed Rafi, the first lucky Airtel digital TV
customers who won Airtel’s ‘Bring Home the Magic’ contest. “When AR Rahman won
the Oscars, I was wondering if I’d ever get a chance to congratulate him in
person. And it happened thanks to Airtel digital TV,” said Mohammed Rafi, whose
wife baked a cake for Rahman.
The Rafis’ neighbours were even more excited at the prospect of seeing the
Jai Ho! boy. The children were carrying posters that read ‘Welcome to our home
AR Rahman Uncle’. Many brought bouquets and other mementos. When Rahman got out
of the car, the building echoed with Jai Ho! The maestro was overwhelmed.
“Coming back from the Oscars and visiting a home like this — I love it. It
feels good to meet fans, but not 6,000 at once,” Rahman smiled. All praise for
Airtel’s efforts to bring the stars home to fans, Rahman said, “It’s a great
way to interact with customers.”
This ‘Bring Home the Magic’ promotion offers Airtel digital TV customers an
opportunity to have their favourite stars AR Rahman, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena
Kapoor, Zaheer Khan and Gautam Gambhir come to their homes. Customers can also
win other prizes like LCD TVs and cellphones. Chandrashekar Radhakrishnan,
head, brand and media, Bharti Airtel Ltd said, “Airtel digital TV was launched
with the objective of enhancing the TV viewing experience for Indian consumers.
The proposition of ‘Magical Entertainment’ was brought to life by
top-of-the-line product features and the creative idea of ‘Come Home to the
Magic’. The prospect of a legend like AR Rahman walking into Rafi’s home would
certainly have been a magical experience for him and his family!”
BT also chatted with the maestro about life after the Oscars. Tired of the
Slumdog Millionaire hype, he had said in an interview, “Leave me alone.” “I
know everybody’s excited, kind and loving. But it can get too much. And you
have to get on with life, work, family and music. It’s tough when you get 300
SMSes and 500 mails and people get upset because they didn’t get a reply,” says
Rahman, who fell ill when he returned from the Academy Awards. “It was all the
travelling, jetlag and felicitation functions,” he says.
His son was unwell of late too — the reason Rahman left the Filmfare Awards
early. Is it tough to find time for family, especially for someone who keeps
his public and personal lives separate? “I’ve always wanted to keep my personal
life separate so that my family can have a peaceful life. I don’t want to take
them everywhere and pose. They need to have their own space,” Rahman explains.
After the Oscars, he finds his creative efforts in the middle of election
fever. Political parties are using filmi songs for their campaigns and one of
them is Jai Ho!, the rights of which have been bought by a political party.
“When I came back, Jai Ho! seemed to belong to everyone. I couldn’t say
anything; it was used everywhere — for remixes, fashion shows and even for some
event in Singapore. But using it for a political campaign is interesting. I’m
not with any party and will support anyone who does something for the people. I
hope voters choose qualified and deserving candidates. And if the songs make it
easier, then why not?” he asks.
Rahman, now known as the ‘Oscar Tamilian’, is also composing a new Tamil
anthem for Tamilians across the globe. Lyricist Vairamuthu, who’ll pen the
lyrics for this anthem, had said when he and Rahman were performing in
Malaysia, they got to know that the Tamils there have their own anthem. So, the
duo decided to create one anthem for Tamilians everywhere. “Yes, of course, I’m
from Tamil Nadu but I want to make it clear that I belong to everyone,” he
says.
When asked about reports of him composing for the next James Bond movie,
the composer blushed and softly said, “I don’t know what you are talking
about.” He didn’t say no, you see!

Its ARR in all probabilty because he had composed the tracks and Ismail

[arr] Old Songs Tunes - Jeans BGM

2009-03-20 Thread Vithur
There is a Scene in the movie " Jeans", where Aishwarya, Prashanth and
everyone play Antakshari or some sort of Game, and the tunes of Old Songs
are as quiz questions..

It starts with " Sen Thamizh Then Mozhiyaaa" ( Music by MSV ) and goes till
Muqqabla and ends with " Saare Jahan".

I assume AR or Shankar would have liked these songs , and thats why a select
old songs tunes have been selected for this game in the Movie.

Listen to this Old Songs tunes BGM from Jeans

http://www.mediafire.com/?wqtgyzijmyz

The List of Old songs are

1. Sen Thamzh Then Mozhiyaa - MSV
2. Adho Andha Paravai Pola aada Vendum - MSV
3. Raakkamma - IR
4. Adi Raasave - IR
5. Muqabla - our own ARR ( a different remix version of a tune )
6. Saare Jahan

Re: [arr] IMPORTANT - Horrible : T-Series A R Rahman Signature Collection

2009-03-20 Thread Shama Mehta
I did send a similar message about this a couple of days ago to the group. For
some crazy reason, it didn't seem to have gone through.

Anywho, this is just a weird thing. One listen to it and you know something's
wrong.

'You are what your deepest desire is. As you desire, so is your intention. As
your intention, so is your will. As is your will so is your deed. As is your
deed, so is your destiny.'  The Upanishads

Fellows,
This is serious and sad.
Get yourself to see.
http://ishare. rediff.com/ filecollectionmu sic-A%20R% 20Rahman% 20Signature%
20Collection% 20Part%201- id-148927. .php
This is by far the worst way to capitilise of Rahman's popularity post academy
awards. This cheap product has to be withdrawn from the market if possible.
Else, we totally boycott this from our catalouges.
I bought the last remaining 5 copies from a nearby music world and threw it in
trashcan...
Is there a way to let Rahman's management know about this?

other than Rahman??? I wud want to hear more from her.. Other than that Atif

AR Rahman

Rohit Bal has an ace up his sleeve though, which will probably trump all the
rest. We hear that none other than AR Rahman will be walking for Gudda on
March 23, as part of the DFW, but at an offsite show. Well after performing
on the Oscar stage, we’re sure Rahman will take this experience in his
stride too!

Angad Bedi, who is in Delhi currently also let us in on some similar khabar.
“I’ll be walking the ramp for Raghu today,” he said. Looking forward to
strutting on the ramp then? He laughed, “Most certainly. It’s a model’s
world!”

My Gifted me one, i was so happy to listen to it, but when i heard,i couldnt
hide my disappoinments, listen to that 3 rd cover version, we should file a law
suit against them, so that next time no one would listen to it again.

Just imagine this way, if a foriegner buys it & when he listens to it what will
he think of Rahman's music, he will convey a different perception to his
country men.

So we should stop this. This should condemnded

[arr] There’s a lovely story about a group of AR Rahman fans

2009-03-20 Thread Vithur
  A globalising saga Shobhana Subramanian / Mumbai March 20, 2009, 0:23 IST
There’s a lovely story about a group of AR Rahman fans who spent many
sleepless nights coding software so as to be able to create a montage of
thumbnail images of all his album covers, which formed the contours of his
face. Acknowledging their perseverance, Rahman and his team decided to
collaborate with them to organise concerts worldwide, evolve new ways to
distribute music and tackle piracy. It’s anecdotes like this and trivial
bits of information on the film industry in Bombay that make this anthology
an interesting read.

The Rafis’ neighbours were even more excited at the prospect of seeing the Jai
Ho! boy. The children were carrying posters that read ‘Welcome to our home AR
Rahman Uncle’. Many brought bouquets and other mementos. When Rahman got out of
the car, the building echoed with Jai Ho! The maestro was overwhelmed. “Coming
back from the Oscars and visiting a home like this — I love it. It feels good
to meet fans, but not 6,000 at once,” Rahman smiled. All praise for Airtel’s
efforts to bring the stars home to fans, Rahman said, “It’s a great way to
interact with customers.”
Rahman, now known as the ‘Oscar Tamilian’, is also composing a new Tamil anthem
for Tamilians across the globe. Lyricist Vairamuthu, who’ll pen the lyrics for
this anthem, had said when he and Rahman were performing in Malaysia, they got
to know that the Tamils there have their own anthem. So, the duo decided to
create one anthem for Tamilians everywhere. “Yes, of course, I’m from Tamil
Nadu but I want to make it clear that I belong to everyone,” he says.
When asked about reports of him composing for the next James Bond movie, the
composer blushed and softly said, “I don’t know what you are talking about.” He
didn’t say no, you see!

but would not this result in T-series believing that it is being sold like hot

'Rahman has divine powers'

March 20, 2009 12:35 IST

We asked readers if they had ever met A R Rahman [Images], and we got quite a
response.
Rajith Ramnivas writes in to say how someone's loss became his gain. He
shares his memories:
I am such a crazy fan of Rahman Sir that even my wife jokingly says that I love
his music more than her! She loves his music a lot too. I was in Standard
8 when Roja [Images] was released. I loved those songs and one of my biggest
aims was to meet Rahman Sir. I was even ready to get a job as his driver!
Anyway, my chance came during the Sharjah concert last April. Four days before
the concert, there was a contest on a radio station, Meet and Greet A R Rahman.
Unfortunately, I didn't win.
So I bought VIP tickets for the concert.
On the day of the concert, I got a call from the radio station asking me to go
to the concert venue at 2pm. One of the winners could not attend because of a
change in timings, and my name was selected instead.
I just couldn't believe it! I reached the venue with my wife at 1:45pm. But
there was a change in the timings again, so we would get to meet him after
the concert.
The concert started on time, and I really enjoyed it. When it was over, we were
asked to go backstage to meet him. There were a lot of people so we couldn't
reach him. Then someone told me that Rahman Sir was asking for me! We went to
his room. His manager let us in.
The room was big with some sofas. Sitting on one of them was the great man. He
was drinking water from a small bottle. He saw me and asked me to come in.
I couldn't control myself. I fell down at his feet, held his legs and
cried. I told him that I loved him very much. He comforted me by saying, ' I
know, I know.'
He helped me to my feet and I hugged him. I got tongue-tied. I couldn't ask him
anything. He asked me where I was working, how long I've been married and
my wife's name. I couldn't reply at all because I was not hearing anything. I
was in another world. My wife prompted me and then I started answering. I was
in a dream.
After meeting him, I realised that he has divine powers. He is very humble and
simple.
Keep those memories coming in. The world would love to hear about Rahman.

If we segregated the Voice Alone Parts of these songs, then it would become
very easy to find out who are the singers and their voices

[arr] Slumdog music is modern Bollywood pop, full of digitally sequenced drums

2009-03-20 Thread Vithur
The most high-profile example of this new world-music trend comes not from
Africa, however, but via India: the Grammy-winning hit soundtrack to the
film “Slumdog Millionaire.” Composed by A. R.
Rahman,
the music is modern Bollywood pop, full of digitally sequenced drums and
processed vocals, raps, house music and schmaltzy balladry — and yes, some
sitar. A remix of its signature song, “Jai Ho,” was just released with
English vocals by the Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger.

Scoring “Slumdog Millionaire” with Logic: An Interview with A. R. Rahman

By Joe Cellini

If you haven’t yet heard at least some of the score from this year’s
Oscar-winning best film “Slumdog Millionaire,” you must be trying very hard
not to.

Even before it won two Oscars for best score and best song (“Jai Ho), as
well as the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for best score, A. R. Rahman’s
soundtrack—written on a Mac in Logic Studio—had registered with any
reasonably alert listener during the film’s much-reported rise from
Indian-flavored indie longshot to runaway worldwide hit.

If the soundtrack’s audio reach is in part attributable to the film’s
sweeping success, its musical grasp is strictly the result of Rahman’s
unforgettable melodies and rhythms. In fact, It would be as hard to imagine
“Slumdog” without its script or cinematography as without Rahman’s score.

One of the world’s most prolific and celebrated cinematic composers and
top-selling recording artists, Rahman has scored more than 110 films,
starting with Roja (1993), which was named by Time magazine as one of the
100 best movie soundtracks. He is an equally avid student of cutting edge
music and technology, and he uses both to turn out scores and songs that
seamlessly combine classical Indian and Western sounds with modern vocal and
instrumental styles.

For “Slumdog Millionaire,” Rahman blends Bollywood, hip-hop, world music and
more to not only complement but significantly carry the film’s energetic
plot and audience-pleasing themes. In a recent phone interview, Rahman spoke
about how he used Logic and other tools to create his eclectic, ambitious
score against unforgiving deadlines.
How did you come to work with director Danny Boyle on “Slumdog Millionaire”?

Well, I was really busy last year. I was doing about eight films, too many
really. And I had this email saying “Hey I’m Danny Boyle, I like your work,
and it would be great for us to have you on our film.” I didn’t know what to
answer. But after exchanging several more emails, I met him personally in
Mumbai. And when I talked to him, I had some interest and I wanted to see
the film. He had a first cut of the film already, and when I saw that I was
really interested and wanted to do it. So I left another film to do this
one. I made time for it.
Was your work on this film different than on other films?

In some ways it was different, because it didn’t require as much work as I
sometimes do for other films, but it required high-quality work. Danny
usually uses many composers for a film because he wants different feels in
the music. When you go to just one composer, it usually has one feel. So I
took a clue from that and tried to think about what he might get from
different writers with different sensibilities, always keeping something of
mine in everything I wrote. He thought I wouldn't have time to do that, so
he was just going to have me do a few songs, but I feel you have a
responsibility to the whole movie.

Each track in this film is completely different from the other. The film
needed that, because it follows one person’s life, but in many different
situations and moments from that life. And for the same reason, there are
different cultural elements: some are very strong Indian influences, and
some are very pop influences. If you take all the good things from ten
different soundtracks and put it together, it can make a beautiful
soundtrack of its own.
How long did it take to compose the “Slumdog Millionaire” score?

The initial ideas were all done on this very basic idea of me singing or
playing keyboards and vocals. I’d send Danny a scratch of each idea over
email, several for each cue he’d given me. Danny would listen and tell me
which of the numbers he liked, and he’d start placing them. That was done a
couple of months back. When I had collected all of these ideas, I went to
England, and we spent three weeks together and finished the score. We’d
originally scheduled four weeks, but because Danny decided to mix the film
early, we had that much less time to do it.
Any disagreement about the kind of score you wanted?

Normally when I work with a director I work through his eyes, and through
his vision, and that’s how I worked with Danny. Ideally, he gets excited
when he hears the sound I’ve delivered. At the same time, he challenges me
to produce other sounds and ideas. It made the job so much easier for me
than if I’d done something radically different on my own and then tried to
fit it into the film’s conception and convince people.
Do you typically write both the songs and the score for a film?

Back in the day, it was common in India to be a composer and songwriter; it
was always that way. You would finish the songs in four days, then the
background mu

[arr] Scoring “Slumdog Millionaire” with Logic: A n Interview with A. R. Rahman

2009-03-20 Thread Srini Santhanam
AR Rahman - on Apple Hot News. My Favourite company talking about my
Favourite composer :)

Cheers,
Srini

Bio

An artist who has redefined contemporary Indian music, A.R. Rahman is
an icon in the world of cinematic scoring and one of the world’s top
25 all-time selling recording artists.

Rahman’s score for “Slumdog Millionaire,” which was critically
praised by Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, and
The New York Times has sold more than 100,000 copies and was the #1
downloaded album on iTunes.

Widely considered the man who single-handedly revived public interest
in Indian film music in the 1990s, Rahman scored the runaway hit,
“Roja,” directed by noted Indian filmmaker Mani Ratnam. The
soundtrack earned Rahman the Indian National Award for Best Music
Composer, and was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 best movie
soundtracks in the world.

Rahman obtained a degree in western classical music from the Trinity
College of Music, London, and set up his own in-house studio called
Panchathan Record-Inn at Chennai, arguably one of Asia’s most
sophisticated and high-tech studios.

Making Tracks

The Soundtrack

To create the “Slumdog Millionaire,” Rahman used a rich palette of
logic plug-ins on the live instruments and software instrument tracks,
including classic Logic plug-ins like the Autofilter, Overdrive,
Compressor, Fuzz Wah, Enveloper, Stereo Delay, Phaser, Ring Shifter
and Bit Crusher, as well as the newer flagship Space Designer and
Delay Designer to help create the overall sound. Several of the tracks
are very simply mixed in Logic Pro with the Logic Adlimiter and
Channel EQ on the main outputs.

“Jai Ho”

In “Jai Ho,” his Oscar-winning song from “Slumdog,” Rahman made
extensive use of Logic instruments, including EXS24, the EVP88
electric piano, and ES2 synth mixed with a few favorite Logic plug-ins
such as Channel EQ, Bitcrusher, and Guitar Amp Pro. The bassline as
well as the trancey, arpeggiated musical line used ES2 presets.

On the long chorus vocals in “Jai Ho,” Rahman created the robotic,
stair-stepping pitch-bend effect with Logic’s Pitch Correction plug-
in to achieve the exaggerated tuning effect.

School’s In

Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory, which teaches students Western
Classical and Indian Classical Music, as well as Audio Media
Education, is India's first Apple Authorized Training Center to offer
all the students Logic Pro Level 1 Certification classes. The students
at KM Music Conservatory use MacBook or MacBook Pro computers running
Logic Pro.

If you haven’t yet heard at least some of the score from this
year’s Oscar-winning best film “Slumdog Millionaire,” you must be
trying very hard not to.

Even before it won two Oscars for best score and best song (“Jai Ho),
as well as the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for best score, A. R.
Rahman’s soundtrack—written on a Mac in Logic Studio—had
registered with any reasonably alert listener during the film’s much-
reported rise from Indian-flavored indie longshot to runaway worldwide
hit.

If the soundtrack’s audio reach is in part attributable to the
film’s sweeping success, its musical grasp is strictly the result of
Rahman’s unforgettable melodies and rhythms. In fact, It would be as
hard to imagine “Slumdog” without its script or cinematography as
without Rahman’s score.

One of the world’s most prolific and celebrated cinematic composers
and top-selling recording artists, Rahman has scored more than 110
films, starting with Roja (1993), which was named by Time magazine as
one of the 100 best movie soundtracks. He is an equally avid student
of cutting edge music and technology, and he uses both to turn out
scores and songs that seamlessly combine classical Indian and Western
sounds with modern vocal and instrumental styles.

For “Slumdog Millionaire,” Rahman blends Bollywood, hip-hop, world
music and more to not only complement but significantly carry the
film’s energetic plot and audience-pleasing themes. In a recent phone
interview, Rahman spoke about how he used Logic and other tools to
create his eclectic, ambitious score against unforgiving deadlines.

How did you come to work with director Danny Boyle on “Slumdog
Millionaire”?

Well, I was really busy last year. I was doing about eight films, too
many really. And I had this email saying “Hey I’m Danny Boyle, I
like your work, and it would be great for us to have you on our
film.” I didn’t know what to answer. But after exchanging several
more emails, I met him personally in Mumbai. And when I talked to him,
I had some interest and I wanted to see the film. He had a first cut
of the film already, and when I saw that I was really interested and
wanted to do it. So I left another film to

Re: [arr] Re: IMPORTANT - Horrible : T-Series A R Rahman Signature Collection

2009-03-20 Thread Thulasi Ram
i dont think so as T-series has the rights of the songs. all ARR could do
probably request those guys not to do like this in future. this is one of
the primary reason ARR wants his rights for the songs he creates so that
everything is under his control.
