[arr] Re: Where is the glorious RAHMAN

2009-07-16 Thread Radheshyam B
I too feel that Rahman should stop composing music for "commercial" films. He
will have a lot of restrictions when he's composing for movies.

For example, Rahman has mentioned in many occasions that he loves composing
melody no.s. Many here will agree that MOST of his best songs (not necessarily
commercially hit. example.. songs of meenaxi) are melodies. But he cannot have
many melodies in a commercial film. So, he should start doing albums. He will
have lot of freedom. Now that he has become popular after oscars, I am sure
that his albums will also become hit

We were.. are.. ’n will always be fascinated by Rahmanji’s divine
Background Scores. And Sillunu Oru Kaadhal is one of the very best
scores by AR. Those haunting tunes are our all time favorites ’n that
might be the reason why I can’t stop working on those mellifluous tunes
even after presenting the SOK Medley Mix. I always wanted it to be
lengthier.. but as you know that creativity depends on our ideas always
!

I missed some of the richest ’n beautiful ’haunting moments’
from the movie scores in that mix and this time I added them ’n made
the medley more enjoyable ’n haunting !

[arr] (Non AR) D K Pattammal passes away.

2009-07-16 Thread ramakrisha laxmana subramanian siva gopala acharya iyer .aiyooo amma idli wada dosa sambar chatni .
Chennai, July 16 (IANS) Renowned carnatic and Tamil film playback singer D.K.
Pattammal died here Thursday. She was 90.

Pattammal was a part of the female trinity of carnatic music, with two other
popular musicians M.S. Subbulakshmi and M.L. Vasanthakumari, who were
instrumental in the large scale initiation of women into the main stream
carnatic music world.

She was a recipient of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards in 1971 and
1998.

__

As we know, Pattammal had sung 'Jana Gana Mana', the Indian National Anthem
with AR.

I have zero knowledge about Carnatic music. But I this is a great loss for
Indian classical Music.

Allahabad: "The superhit song 'Jai Ho' composed by music director and Academy
Award winner AR Rahman not only captivates music lovers in India, but across
the globe and in US one can hear the popular number being played in shopping
malls and not to mention at the John F Kennedy International Airport also,"
said a delighted Vikas Swaroop, author of the book 'Q and A' which inspired the
making of Oscar winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire' in an exclusive interview
with TOI after his arrival in the city here on Wednesday.

Holding high praise for the Hollywood film industry for its democratic
character, Swaroop said the scene at Academy Awards Ceremony was entirely
different from Indian Awards Function on account of the fact that once ushered
inside the venue one could freely interact with the likes of Brad Pitt,
Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston. However, in Bollywood the security
paraphanelia around the stars keep the fans and common man at bay from their
favourite stars.

As regards 'Slumdog Millionaire' the diplomat turned writer felt that after
Gandhi it is the first film based on an Indian theme which has earned the
accolades of movie lovers in western countries and won Oscars in virtually all
major categories. This is despite the fact that themes of both films were
altogether different. But this cannot deny the credit to Slumdog.. which was a
work of total fiction and its list of high profile admirers include present US
secretary of state, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Attributing the success of the film to its ability to touch the hearts of
people from top to bottom, Swaroop said that work on another film based on his
second book 'The Six Suspects' would commence shortly with British Broadcasting
Corporation( BBC) hiring the services of legendary screenplay writer John Hodge
to write the screenplay of the film. Interestingly, Hodge is the person who is
credited with writing the screenplay of Slumdog's.. director, Danny Boyle's
other three films and is a gifted screenplay writer.

[arr] No problem with A.R.Rahman: Gautham

2009-07-16 Thread satish_srini
Gautham Menon is trying to investigate who is behind rumours about his fall out
with A.R Rahman? We caught up with the ace director for this conversation

How is Vinnaithandi Varuvaayaprogressing?
The film is moving at brisk pace. We are going to New York for a schedule where
some crucial scenes of the film including climax will be shot. We also plan to
shoot a song there.

The rumour mill says that you had a fall-out with AR Rahman, the music director
of the film. Please comment?
Some vested interest has been spreading all kinds of lies that I have fallen
out with Rahman over payment issues. On the contrary we are on the best of
terms, as he has given outstanding music for VV. I will hand over the film to
him in August and he will start re-recording and background score. We plan to
release the film for Diwali. ARR has composed three extraordinary songs which
have already been shot. They are of international quality and he will be
recording the next two songs soon.

When did you last meet Rahman?
Recently, I met Rahman at his home in his Los Angeles and the first thing he
asked me was about this baseless rumour doing the rounds. He asked me why
people are writing such crap without checking facts with us. Let me tell you
that Rahman signed Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya much before he won the Oscars, after
hearing the script. He was impressed by the simple, feel-good love story. And
after winning the Oscars and going truly International, he did not increase his
fee as he knows the Tamil film market and the logistics more than anyone.

Can you elaborate on the songs?
Hosanaa, sung by Vijay Prakash ( Jai Ho.. fame) with Thamarai's lyrics and a
rap by Blaze will be a sure hit among the young crowd for its peppy beats and
stunning visuals shot by Manoj Paramahamsa at Malta with stylized choreography
by Flexy Stu. The second song Omana Penne… written by Thamarai and sung by A R
Rahman himself, holds a style of its own.

What is the budget of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya?
We have shot the film on a large scale and the budget will be around 14 Crore.
It is a big budget film shot in some exotic locales of New York, Malta and
Kerala. It is a stylishly shot love story.

Both Simbu and Trisha have a new look in the film?
Simbu has 2 or 3 looks in the film. Trisha looks fresh and wears mostly cotton
saris in the film. After Minnale, it will be my next out and out love story
with outstanding music, a feel good romantic entertainer .

[arr] [semi-arr] Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010

2009-07-16 Thread Ramesh R
I've been listening to the soundtrack to the opening ceremony for the Melbourne
Commonwealth Games 2006 by Australian composer Christopher Gordon, and I can't
help but imagine what a fine opportunity it would be for ARR to do the music
for the Delhi Commonwealth Games that will take place in Oct 2010. I'm not just
talking about the official theme for the Games but the whole soundtrack to the
opening ceremony.

Gordon's orchestral score is expansive, epic and rousing. And there's an
amazing level of clarity in ideas... something very rare in today's
sound-effects dominated overscores. Aside from Gordon's original compositions
there are some songs (with vocals) arranged by him which are simply delightful.
The cd comes highly recommended.

Given that the opening ceremony will feature performances that showcase the
heritage of the host country and the larger spirit of gamesmanship, it presents
an opportunity for a massive scale work integrating the orchestra with
traditional Indian instruments. And if the KMMC orchestra is ready by late 2010
then it'd be fantastic for them too.

RR
