Agree 100% Anish! Great song! Actually, this song has one of the most
beautiful intros of any Hindi movie song I have heard. Very touching and with
such a simple melody, it really has an impact. Orchestration is world class and
in fact, it's a song that is appealing beyond Indian borders. I could see many
Westerners loving this song too.

Agree with everything except the first point. I feel the whole album is
"noise" free, but I see what you're sayingit's not as thickly arranged as
other tracks, so easier to make out individual sounds and has more breathing
room. Other tracks are busier in terms of multiple layers, but I still don't
see it as clutter. Just my opinion only. I completely agree with you on the
restgreat post! Bhoola Tujhe is also less busy.

[arr] strength of FIQRANA

2009-09-20 Thread chandrasekaran guruprasad
Follwing aare the week points in blue songs other than fiqrana
1. blue theme  - Sounds well as a BGM  but as a song it is of short duration 3
min..
2. yaar thila - Too slow
3. Boola thuje - melody is not enough though guitar sounds good
4. Chiggy wiggy - Noisy at bangra phase
5 Aaj dil - Except piano nothing special
6. Rehnuma - Noisy and tune looks familiar...

But FIQRANA outbeat all others and stands number one..

ichord, what a wonderful thought! You already have a thesis formulated, just
have to pitch it to someone in that department/field, and maybe you can write
one yourself :)...ur right, there is such large body of work of ARR to use as
evidence and also even stronger responses and reactions from lay people and
media releases in both the Indian and International arena regarding his work.
It would be a wonder to read :)

We all know ARR is now a doctor 3 times over with his 3 honorary doctorates.
He is truly deserving of these degrees. However, wouldn't it be cool if
someone did their Ph.D. dissertation or thesis on his music? Would that be
even possible? I think it is!

Imagine someone pursuing their Ph.D. in anthropology of music or
ethno-musicology. "The phrase anthropology of music is most closely associated
with Alan P. Merriam's 1964 landmark book bearing this title. In this
prescriptive text, influential through the 1980s, Merriam defines
ethno-musicology as the study of music in culture in relation to the mutual
interactions of sound, behavior, and concepts."

Above quote taken from:
http://science. jrank.org/ pages/7893/ Music-Anthropolo gy.html#ixzz0Rff ZiTPx

Someone could easily pick AR Rahman's music from India as a theoretical
dissertation topic, highlighting how Rahman's music not only represents the
broad diversity of Indian culture, but how his music, like India, absorbs
various world influences to form its coherent identity from a conceptual basis
and its subsequent impact on human behavior and culture. Rahman has enough of
a volume of both domestic and international music for someone to really study
and create a dissertation. It would be absolutely fascinating!

Guys,

http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/arrahmanfa ns/surveys? id=2899464

In my previous poll on favorite Blue track, Fiqrana is expectedly way ahead of
the pack. Chiggy is the real loser here relative to the others with only 3
saying it's their favorite. However, the song "Yaar Mila" is in second place
followed closely by Blue Theme. Now, that's interesting, because many reviews
have given a thumbs down to that song and some people elsewhere have expressed
a strong dislike for it. But, I guess the song has enough melody and spunk to
really endear it to many too!

Every song in the album has had a favorite vote, so to me, that's a really good
sign of a very strong soundtrack!

Agree on Fiqrana.

Elaborating on why Chiggy Wiggy doesn't work, it would have been better if ARR
had used Kylie Minogue for the English version of a song like "Aye Bachchu" or
even "Lattoo."

Chiggy Wiggy is too contrived --- it tries TOO hard to be Western & cool.

Re: [arr] Looking to buy Mr. Romeo (Hindi Audio CD)

2009-09-20 Thread P. Amit
So I think Time Audio sold its collection to TIPS in 1999. There are lots of
old Time Audio titles floating around the market like Ghoonghat, Tarazu, etc.
which are rebranded under TIPS. Wonder why TIPS is not re-releasing Mr. Romeo
that way?

Looks difficult. A few years back I had even contacted Venus and Time Audio
authorities for the CD, only to learn that there are no CDs available for this
title. However, the music companies offer you to purchase, say 1000 CDs, in
bulk; and if you go ahead, they burn the new stock for you.

Thanks,

is it " Uruguthey...Maruguthye...Ore Parvayale...Ulagame...Suruluthey" ??

If it is, its composed by G.V.Prakash, ARR's nephew.
For the film "Veyil".
Sung by Shreya Goshal and Shankar Mahadevan.

Also does anyone have tips on where all I can search for this CD in Bangalore,
Kolata, Delhi, etc. (major metros)?

Earlier this year I managed to find a CD of Hindustani (which has also been out

Well, from what I'm hearing from Couples Retreat music samples so far, the
music sounds fresh and very, very interesting!

A R Rahman Won’t Do Another Slumdog For The West
By Subhash K Jha
The “formula’ works equally effectively across the cultural divide. If in
Bollywood Rahman was expected to do a series of Rukmani rukmani after Roja,
in the West they want more Jai ho from this composing genius after Slumdog
Millionaire.
But Rahman in his own quiet way is determined to not pander to western
expectations.
He made it very clear to the people behind his first full-fledged Hollywood
film that he’d compose exactly what he thought to be the most apt music for
the show.
Says Rahman, “Couples Retreat will have music that suits an American
rom-com. There is no real Indian sound in it. But yes, there will be a touch
of Indianess in the sound. Otherwise what is the point of bringing me into
the picture?”
Apparently there were numerous brainstorming sessions during which the sound
of Slumdog Millionaire kept cropping up repeatedly.
Rahman gently, but firmly steered the music away from the expected.
Chuckles the wizard of all composing things; “There’s no point in doing
something I’ve already done. I’ve reached a stage where I’ve to do new
things. There’re so many avenues to be explored. So Couples Retreat will be
their (read: American) kind of music with my touch, done in my way.”
Secretly Rahman agrees with those of his admirers and fans who feel Slumdog
Millionaire is not among his best work. Says a source, “He has done far
superior work in films like Lagaan, Dil Se, Roja, Zubeida and the
forthcoming Raavan and Blue. Friends keep telling him that. Slumdog was done
in a hurry. In about 20 days flat. Rahman feels he could’ve done a lot
better. He now wants the West to see some of his best.” Rahman is looking at
Couples Retreat as his real launch into the West.

Re: [arr] Looking to buy Mr. Romeo (Hindi Audio CD)

2009-09-20 Thread Amith Chandhran
Looks difficult. A few years back I had even contacted Venus and Time Audio
authorities for the CD, only to learn that there are no CDs available for
this title. However, the music companies offer you to purchase, say 1000
CDs, in bulk; and if you go ahead, they burn the new stock for you.

Thanks,

-

[arr] Couples retreat is Magical!!!

2009-09-20 Thread Madhavan Rajan
Just the pieces of music from the website itself has created wonders! I'm
just playing the music continuously in loop...So many genres in it...The
music that kicks off with wild african drums followed by perfectly matching
Guitar progressions; something that I've never heard combination
though...Great to hear the wind instruments after some time...Really brings
home the vintage Rahman...At times, feels like this is going to make wonders
like how Roja did in India...As said earlier, it's very true that AR is not
just composing world music but he composes a world of music! I bet this
music is going to be the talk of tinseltown!

Thank you so much AR for bringing the brightest joy in all our lives!!!
