RE: [arr] Anyone agree with this statement from PB?

2009-09-28 Thread Jesheem Mohamed

It definitely is a wonderful soundtrack and that too for a debut album. But to
say that it has never been toppled by ARR is definitely a debatable topic.
Here's a thread. Leaving out every single album, I doubt if the Music
connoisseurs CAN ignore Jodha Akbar! JA was a musical masterpiece. People who
were then a lil unsure abt the grand music, definitely will understand the
value it added in bringing out the aesthetics of each and every scene. A
soundtrack that did justice not just to the movie but as well for the period it
was set in, it still had a dimension that was way ahead of times.
I strongly believe that JA has to be the strongest contender for soundtrack at
the 2008 National Awards.
Any thoughts to ponder?
Cheers..Jesheem

The pricing was same for Pune and calicut. Hyderabad has just replicated the
same.

What i understand from the event manager , that the seats priced at Rs 25,000,
12500 and 7500 are very limted and constitute only 5% of the total seating. 95
percent of the seating is for denominations 4000 and below. Hence we all will

Also understand the 500 Rs seating has already been sold out. Hence not

 bloom

Example, in the song Sajna, notice how the strings gradually weave their
way in with the rhythm after the first choral interlude, getting louder and
more prominent before we hear them in full bloom at the end of the song,
totally harmonizing beautifully with the chorus.MY GOD, THAT IS GENIUS!

That's what I love most about ARRit's the details in his musicthe

I just feel blessed that I have sensitive enough ears and am open minded

Chord, agreed.

Could you explain if you find a difference between Dil Se and Blue in terms
of audio quality. Dil se had the same if not more layers of orchestrations,
instruments used.
One more question. I would find Yuva to be very close to blue in terms of
genre and the feel. Dont you feel Yuva was higher in terms of audio quality?

 Hey Anand,

 Diff between Blue and CR

 1) Blue has multiple layers, very dense, while CR is lighter in terms of
quantity of arrangements, thus more breathing room and space in the tracks.

 2) Blue's sound engineering team are composed of multiple people, using
different platforms around the world (multisourced), hence some
inconsistencies in terms of volumes, etc. (found that out through a good
friend). Also, check out the sound credits in the Blue inlayso many
people! CR's sound team appears to be more intimate and I think ARR may have
supervised the sound better in CR.

 3) The nature of Blue's music is loud and heavy, given it's an action and
massala bollywood flick. CR's theme is more light and since it's mostly
instrumental, allowed AR to show more pure artistic creativity in terms of
 sound and arrangements.

BTW, I love Blue and CR both for different reasons.

shortsighted we fans can be if we limit his genius to just the formulaic
movies in India. As he himself has said that he likes to explore new
 avenues
we should allow him to do just that otherwise risk his creativity getting
stunted and a kind of boredom setting in. Looks like his creative genius
needs to be challenged all the time. If it is, it is good for us fans as

Also can the sound experts here throw light on the huge difference in
 sound

 totally
muddled up and loud. Is it to do with a predominantly acoustic sounds

Bravo! Great job, Suresh! Now, that's what I call a great review, doing
 full
justice to this exquisite soundtrack. I esp. like that you talked about
 the
sounds, instruments, arrangements a lot, which really do deserve specific
menttion in each track. I liked how you tried to connect the music to the
visuals, giving more meaning to each track in context. Appreciated how
 you
tried to put the comedy element in logical light, stating that the
 serious
music is for those who are the butt of the jokes and who don't find it
funny, but the rest do! Makes perfect sense! I love some of your
descriptions, like, bed of soft strings.very classy! Lastly, you
 very
nicely put this in perspective in comparison to Slumdog in that even
 though
it won't gather the same attention and perhaps level of accolades as
Slumdog, it still deserves to be celebrated as a beautifully strong
 entrance
for Rahman into hollywood. I can see your knowledge and ear for good
 music
is quite refined and I really appreciate that. The only thing I didn't
 agree
with you was the criticism on Sajna Re, but I respect that opinion a lot
because you explained in detail why you felt that way. Geez, I wish more
people would write reviews like you do And yes, you very correctly
stated that it used the same musical template as Dreams on Fire, which is
what I thought too when I heard it.

For me, the core strength of this soundtrack is in artistic, aural, and
aesthetic beauty, not commercial potential. It's one of the most
 beautifully
crafted compositionally and sonically mostly acoustic album by Rahman and
 to
me, that's all I need to celebrate, regardless of movie success. That is
 the
greatest distinction between this and Slumdog, which was more of a
commercial, highly energized, stylish, electronic soundtrack. Both
 Slumdog
and Couple's Retreat showcase ARR's versatility amazingly and I hope
 people
here in the West recognize that.

My fav is Tadap Tapad ke is dil se, that would do any MD proud, including ARR.
what a pain, what a pathos, and above all what a range. That is a song that
highlights that ARR doesn't go beyond a fixed boundary to express feelings, ARR
does keep an elegance and decorum in his songs which doesn't gel well with
extremes of emotions when people are least bothered about decorum and are just

ARR should try to give a song like Tadap Tadap Ke.

While thinking about this boundaries maintained by ARR, I think blue's Yaar
Mila Tha is also suffering from this forced elegance and decorum that it did
not become a real chulbula, naughty, chhedchhad song likes of which many MDs
have given that really bring a soft smile at your lips.

Apart from this praise of HDDCS...

But to say that it has never been toppled by ARR is definitely a
 debatable topic.

right. Absolutely correct. Not just ARR but many others MDs of recent times
have given equally good or even better albums.

At most, it can be said that ID himself could never give anything better than
HDDCS

Here's a thread. Leaving out every single album, I doubt if the Music
connoisseurs CAN ignore *Jodha Akbar*! JA was a musical masterpiece.
People who were then a lil unsure abt the grand music, definitely will
understand the value it added in bringing out the aesthetics of each and
every scene. A soundtrack that did justice not just to the movie but as
well for the period it was set in, it still had a dimension that was way
 ahead of times.

I strongly believe that JA has to be the strongest contender for
soundtrack at the 2008 National Awards.

 Any thoughts to ponder?

2009-09-28 Thread Gayathri Chandrakasan
One is entitled to have his/her own opinions of a particular album. The author
may think that HDDCS is the best album or a masterpiece, nevertheless to say
that most music connoisseurs  will agree that Ismail Darbar's debut soundtrack
has never been toppled since its release, is certainly totally debatable. How
many times have we really heard about HDDCS being quoted as the best album in
India? It's a wonderful album, no doubt and did win the National award for best
music director but ARR's Taal, which incidently was released on the same year
went on to win the most accolades and swept  up all the popular awards that
year.

In fact, PB's article seem to be contradicting with their earlier
articles...check the one below on 100 Greatest Bollywood Soundtracks Ever

http://www.planetbollywood.com/displayArticle.php?id=031407044048

HDDCS is at no 35 and Lagaan at 34.

Quotes from PB on HDDCS and Lagaan

...Along with Taal, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was a perfect album to end of the
century.

Lagaan is the best musical album so far for this decade. AR Rehman came up
with an album that is a winner by all standards.

Lagaan music is truly a masterpiece. No doubt, AR Rehman truly deserves the
music awards he got for Lagaan.

Maybe the next time around, PB should form a more diligent research on music
albums before coming out with such statements.

Not to take away anything from ID or the amazing soundtrack, but nimbuda was
shamelessly plagiarised and not credited to the original composer.

*57* *Nimbuda Nimbuda [Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)] TC* Composer:
Ismail Darbar Inspired by Ghazni Khan Manganiyar's Rajasthani Folk song,

*If you'd like to listen to the full version of the folk song, click
herehttp://www.musicindiaonline.com/l/24/s/album.1671/ (check
out 'Nimbuda Nimbuda'!)*

Take a look at these 2 (out of many other sites) sites that talk of this
song being a lift from a Rajasthani Manganiyar folk song!
Diverse

Sunday

I completely agree with Shuba Mudgal (who has penned the write-up in Diverse
Strains) when she asks, *If we can listen to a folk song in a blockbuster
movie, why can we not give an occasional patient hearing to the original?*
Ismail Darbar had a wonderful chance to handle this in the right way, but I
wonder why he messed it up and ended with a 'plagiarist' tag - that too in
his much-celebrated debut. All he had to do was to add a note of credit to
the original composer of the song, Rajasthani folk singer Ghazni Khan
Manganiyar, so that people can differentiate between the original and the
Bollywood version - when you listen to the two you'd understand the kind of
work that Ismail has put in, in his version and made a simple,
'otherwise-restricted-to-a-few-discerning-listeners' track into an
ultra-catchy dance number! Its a pity that decided to pass it as his
original composition.

[arr] Blue the biggest let down by ARR

2009-09-28 Thread adamirs...@rocketmail.com
It took me nearly two weeks to just get into the grove of Blue and now I have
to listen two other masterpieces Couples Retreat and Passage. Man all these
albums are so creative and beyond expectation .The challenging part are to

Big thanks to our thala.

Oh ya, the let down is why didn't he sing in blue, Fiqrana would have been apt
for him, however I still believe ARR sang the chorus part in Fiqrana, it sounds
like him, maybe he was not credited. Blue is an absolute stunner. It is all up

HDDCS is at no 35 and Lagaan at 34.

Quotes from PB on HDDCS and Lagaan

...Along with Taal, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was a perfect album to end of
 the century.

Lagaan is the best musical album so far for this decade. AR Rehman came
up with an album that is a winner by all standards.

Lagaan music is truly a masterpiece. No doubt, AR Rehman truly deserves
the music awards he got for Lagaan.

Maybe the next time around, PB should form a more diligent research on

[arr] Chiggy Wiggy removed from Blue

2009-09-28 Thread Naveen Naushad
Kylie Minogue's big Bollywood debut has fizzled out. She recorded the song
Chiggy Wiggy, composed by A R Rahman, for the film Blue - which stars Akshay
Kumar, Lara Dutt, Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan - but it will not be used.

Minogue was paid $1-million (R7.3m) for the song, but the producers decided
not to use it because it was silly.

A source said, The film is way over budget and the producers are struggling
to complete it. Everyone expected the song to be a hit, especially since
Rahman was involved, but it was disappointing. It makes no sense to have the
song because it does not add anything to the film.

Well put, Adamirshad! I know how you feel. Just as I was getting into Blue,
Passage and CR came out and now I feel overwhelmed. Man, look at the range of
music in all 3 soundtracks..could anyone ever imagine one composer capable
of creating so much variety in sound and music and not at all repeating himself
or sounding bland? AR is just beyond amazing.

I too wanted to hear AR in Blue, but I liked Vijay's rendition in Faqrana.
Apart from some sound issues in Blue, which never really bothered me, it's an
amazing soundtrack.

For me, ever since Jodha Akbar's music in 2008, it's just been raining ARR
nonstop with only a few let ups in between in terms of some less than stellar
songs, but overall, his quality output has remained incredible..look at
this track record from Jan 2008JA, Jaane Tu, Ada, Yuvvraaj, Sakrakatti,
Ghajini, Slumdog, Connections, Delhi 6, Blue, Passage, and now CR...reminds
me of the Bonnanza he had in the late 1990s and early 2000s. And Raavan is
only going to continue the party and I can guarantee you right now without a
doubt in my mind, Raavan is going to be a COMPLETE masterpiece.

[arr] Vellai Pookal going to be used to campaign Water Conservation w/ ARR featuring in vid.

2009-09-28 Thread manisha madhavan
A.R. Rahman's water conservation message
Padma Iyer [September 28, 2009, 5:49:56 PM]

Twin Oscar winner A.R. Rahman has indeed charmed the whole world. He is
currently working with some of the biggest names in international music and at
the same time, doing his bit for the betterment of the world.
Following his anti-poverty anthem for the UN, the Mozart of Madras is now
joining the likes of U2 and Shakira for a global video on water conservation.
The video was shot in Filmistan Studios recently. This music video will be
aired worldwide through the Internet. The 120 minute webcast is titled 'Moving
Stars And Earth For Water' and will also feature U2, Peter Gabriel and Shakira.

Rahman's 3.40-minute music video is based on the musical track 'Vellai Pookal'
penned by Vairamuthu, from the movie Kannathil Mutthamittal. This Mani Ratnam
classic had won Rahman the National Award. Talking about why he chose this
particular track, Rahman said that he always relied on his instincts for music
and this track felt perfect for the theme of water conservation.

The video, directed by Deepak Gattani, founder of Rapport Global, will feature
Rahman (dressed in white) and kids as the song is addressed to the young
generation of today.

The 'Moving Stars And Earth For Water' webcast is pioneered by the Canadian
foundation One Drop and it hopes to raise worldwide awareness on water
conservation.

[arr] Could anyone figure out Nana's lyrics?

Could anyone figure out Nana's lyrics? I couldn't do it even after slowing it
down twice the original speed

Re: [arr] Re: Who sang NANA in Couples retreat?

2009-09-28 Thread pratap
I think what Vijay posted is actually the backing vocal. These singers are
usually featured as backing vocal in many of AR's song. And according to
Vithur, Blaaze did sing the song and also wrote the lyrics for Sajna. And I'm
pretty sure it is Blaaze's voice. His voice easily stands out from others

  I'm

confused. Guys pls share if you know

Re: [arr] Blue the biggest let down by ARR

2009-09-28 Thread adamirs...@rocketmail.com
Rawat, I totally understand your point, but this title is not to attract ppl
like u, its solely meant for those who are disappointed with blue and trying to
convince them self by saying next ARR soundtrack will quench their thirst. So I
believe from now on those members who gets excited without hearing to the songs
properly and letting it grow on them will think twice to be inconsiderate of
our genius's work. The meaning of Thala is somewhat like Boss. Usually Politian
and movie star are described such a way, for me the only thala is our genius
himself.

Vijay prakash undeniably has done a tremendous job in fiqrana, I agree on that
chord. Coming back to the sound issue, I went to Singapore this week to get the
audio CD of Blue as our usual Malaysian supplier failed to get the cds on time.
I really got fed up with the quality of mp3,so just decided to drive down to
get the cd. It was obviously better esp clarity wise but what I personally feel
is that the audio company is compromising the quality of the songs by
compressing it to fit in all the songs one disc or maybe its low quality disc.
This is maybe due to ARR's extensive layering technique which may coz the files
to be big, therefore CD distributor may not be able to justify it due to
costing issues. Because when I compare it with ARR's international outputs such
as Warriors and Slumdog the quality is perfecto, on the flipside it's only
hindi cd we having this prob esp Blue now. So I believe something fishy is
going on esp with T series coz Ada was released by Big music and the quality
was good.

these albums are so creative and beyond expectation .The challenging part

  Big thanks to our thala.

Oh ya, the let down is why didn't he sing in blue,

If that is your only grievance about Buloo, I think the subject you chose
(Blue the biggest let down by ARR) is highly inappropriate and provocative.

Hope you would take this feedback in right gesture and would be more careful
 choosing your words in future.

 btw, what is thala?

Fiqrana would have been apt for him, however I still believe ARR sang the
chorus part in Fiqrana, it sounds like him, maybe he was not credited.
Blue is an absolute stunner. It is all up to the director to do
  justification to this soundtrack.

On kurukuru kan from CR (Afro nisha), it sounds like our thala and some
media ppl claims its someone else. Is Afro Nisha his alter ego?

If this is true then it will be a real shame... Perhaps they can use it for the
opening or closing credits...shame to waste a hard worked on composition...esp
after $1million dollars have been spent on it...

Minogue was paid $1-million (R7.3m) for the song, but the producers decided not
to use it because it was silly.

A source said, The film is way over budget and the producers are struggling to
complete it. Everyone expected the song to be a hit, especially since Rahman
was involved, but it was disappointing. It makes no sense to have the song
because it does not add anything to the film.

Where did you get this information? Well, if it's true, that's too bad. I
still like the song, however!
