In a forum where we discuss about ARR's music and the person himself, a 
discussion about IR is not at all required. So I request you all to enjoy ARR's 
win. As IR says, "why should I feel for him"; it is applicable to him from our 
part too, when we discuss about only ARR here. And ARR, in his inimitable 
style, has given his take on the same. That's it. 

Until now, ARR has always been humble and simple, and that persona captures 
attention and imagination of people from every section of the society across 
the globe. If that makes him great, that's good for us to emulate such 
attributes. 

"Who's the biggest" or "Who's the greatest" is not a worthy discussion here. 
Let's hear the music they create and the normal people (including you and me!) 
will give their verdicts. And as you all know, the public is intelligent to 
decide who they admire the most, when each of them have their own choices. So 
please stop such discussions, which add nothing much to the group and the 
discussions. 

It's a sincere request.

Don't read too much into Raja's statement.  Yes, he could have simply said 
"congrats to Rahman" but it was a needless question at that time.  Probably the 
interviewer wanted Raja to sing fatuous praises of Rahman.  Raja didn't say 
anything bad about Rahman.

Thanks for the video Ram. yeah... AFAIK, IR answers before the reporter even 
finishes her question, as if he knew that there will be a query on ARR and came 
prepared for that "great" answer. 


Never
allow the success to get into your head. ARR is a living example of
that. I personally didn't like IR's speech at the felicitation program
conducted by the musicians after ARR got the Oscars. He spoke more
about Balamuralikrishna than ARR. I felt that IR spoke few seconds about ARR 
just out of
compulsion. This attitude of IR made the big directors like Mani, Bharathiraja,
Balachander to move away from him. I remember seeing the same attitude
with his elder son Karthik Raja. AFAIK, Yuvan haven't uttered
any statements like them.

At the end of the show, all the troop members of the chinese show performed 
their performance very shortly to conclude the show, at that time they played 
one background music.  I heard that music in some of our indian film, i dont 
know whether it is hindi or tamil film i dont know, but it is bgm of  one of 
the film of our indian film.  if anyone noticed please tell the name of the 
movie. i cant find it, but it is a very recent movie.

Good god! I didn't know he actually said "
let see how long will this 'kid' last".

While there is no questioning his musical genius, he has not yet come
to terms with Rahman's success and the fact that he is receiving the
Padma Bhushan along with a Rahman.

After the Oscars felicitation speech, I was wondering who are we
felicitating here? Balamurali Krishna? Or that IR has a raaga named
after him? It's really obvious and sad. Another person I feel hasn't
come to terms with Rahman's success Kamal. In the VTV music launch, I
don't even recall him mentioning Rahman's name. Compare that Rahman's
mention, "I hope I meet the standards set by Gautam - Harris."

Both IR and Kamal are giants in their respective fields and great
entertainers, but you have to respect other's success too.

I don't mean to bash them, and certainly this is not the forum for
that. Just sharing my grievance since we are in this topic.

I think VTV is brilliant.  A different album in tamil after a long time.  Most 
people who are disappointed by the album probably expected a conventional 
score.  But, thalaivar is different.  Usually some of Rahman's songs are 
appreciated only after you listen a few times.  But, I got hooked to VTV songs 
immediately.

I literally had tears rolling down my eyes...tears of joy...watching all these 
clips, especially Thai Manne Vanakkam and Chinna Chinna Aasai. Shows that every 
person's potential is just endless ...all you need to do is take effort, 
recognize it, and develop it :). And shows once again that music has no

from late 90's comment on ARR in ananda vikatan magazine, in the lines of
"let see how long will this 'kid' last", to recent IRs half-hearted speech
during cine musicians meet, its crystal clear that he just doesn't have the
heart to accept ARR's well deserved fame.
Gosh! you got to watch his speech on ARR after oscars... 90% of his speech
had nothing to do with ARR. instead, 2 words on ARR for less than 5secs
would have done more justice to whatever he had to say on that day..

Rawat,

No doubt IR is great. ARR and IR are two different people and have talents of 
their own. Who is more superior? It comes down to one's taste and this reply is 
not about their musical skils. What I think Satheesh was saying was that when 
IR was asked about his thoughts on Rahman being awarded the Padmabushan as 
well, his response was 'ask Rahman' whilst it would have been nice to see him 
congratulate a fellow artist/musician. However, he may have not felt the need 
to at that point and perhaps may have even done it personally with Rahman but 
it would have been nice to have him say something in the lines of 'I am happy 
for him as well' or 'I am glad yet another musician has been appreciated for 
his efforts' because in the very same interview, he'd mentioned how the 
Padmabushan was not for recognition of his work but appreciation instead. 
Rahman on the otherhand when asked about IR's Padmabushan, came out with "IR 
and I are family.  Both being awarded the
 Padmabushan only doubles my joy'. IR, like you said is a "great elder person" 
precisely why it would have been nice to see him tap a talented growing child

[arr] Three weeks for VTV to sink in

Sighh. Finally VTV has got into me, it has got into my blood, sleep, dream, 
breath everything. The first time I heard it, I was like WTH is this, but I 
have always liked ARR stuff that I hate initially as I tend to love it later 
on. I just dont go on listening to it if I dont like, here is what I do.

1) Listen initially for a couple of times, since most of the stuff is so new, 
especially the structuring nothing comes to my lips.
2) Stop listening for a few days and then unknowingly I will start humming 
something from the album.
3) So I go back to CD and listen again. At this point something registers in 
mind and I start humming a few bits and pieces again.

thats it, I just repeat the step1 to step3 and it gets into me full time.

And it is very difficult to prove otherwise, except those who closely watch

As a musician Ilayaraja is much acclaimed, no one has any doubt on that. 
But as a person... !!!
Lot of times IR shows intolerance towards ARR (Every one knows that). May be 
'perunthachan' ego.

And your comment about ARR.
According to me, such comments are sin.
Because he is the personalized simplified, for an extend he is one of the very 
few celebrity with such quality.
Any person with little common sense can understand the difference b/w show-off 
and real humbleness.
