2010-05-29 Thread Sam
It is very good song.. unfortunately, I can't stand the thematic lines rendered
by the females in both Hindi and Tamil versions.. It sounds terribly squeaky
and annoying.. I edited and replaced it with the male voice and now the song
is looping in my pod non-stop over the weekend.

Something about this song is very captivating...may take a while to grow, but
once it holds you, you keep wanting to hear it again and again! I'm addicted to
this song..the melody is actually quite simple and traditional, but has a
hook and intensity that is very direct and gripping. It's the thickly layered
soundscapes which surround the skeletal melody and brilliant vocals of Rekha
and Javed along with the whole ambiance of the song that is so very magical to
me..blends of middle eastern, folk, techno, trance...just brillianthas
a bit of a primal feel to it too with that mosquito drone sound coming in and
out now and then with the use of Rekha's voice electronically processed

The best decription in a review that I came across about this song was from
Apunkachoice.com's review of Raavan. About Ranjha Ranjha...

"There is something inexplicable about the track Ranjha Ranjha belted out
efficiently by Rekha Bhradwaj and Javed Ali. As the song settles in your heart,
you are drenched in the richness of Rahman's music. Now that is indescribable".

Hi everyone,

Picked up a few interludes of the song 'Kisu kisu namakkul' from the movie
Manidha Manidha (1995) and mixed up the attached piece (which I use as ringtone
now).

This is also an attempt to show case the fact that Manidha Manidha had some
excellent tunes/numbers by the maestro A R Rahman, despite not receiving the
acclaim that it deserved.

Please listen and do let me know your comments :-)

In ARR's repertoire there have been many others too that have become classics.

[arr] {SEMI-ARR} Give me 10,000 hours

2010-05-29 Thread Vinayakam Murugan
http://indiauncut.com/iublog/article/give-me-1-hours/

Reference to ARR

The 10,000-hour rule might seem a bit pat, in terms of the number itself,
but the general principle, that hard work matters far more than talent, is
one I find credible. Look at our own geniuses, here in India: Sachin
Tendulkar might have been born with a special talent, but the most memorable
stories of his younger years are those that speak of his hard work: he would
spend hours at the nets, perfecting his cricketing reflexes, and would get
his coach, Ramakant Achrekar, to ferry him around on his scooter from one
match to the other so he could play as much cricket as possible in a day.
Another genius, AR Rahman, was a keyboardist in Ilaiyaraaja’s troupe at the
age of 11, and played and arranged music for a number of bands in his youth.
At the time *Roja* released, in 1992, he had been in the music business for
15 years. I suspect if you ask them to comment on this, they would agree
that if you take away the toil, the 10,000 hours, they would never have made
it here.

It could be one of the three "deleted" songs from ravan, but not sure.

for a 1:08 min audio clip, try
http://www.filestube.com/8a7af7418a63e93303e9,g/01-Pairon-Pe-Jannat-Hai-Lucky-Ali.html

I doubt that it could be a real song. For entire clip, the same beats
continue with some aalaap by male voice, and just "pairon pe jannat
hai" twice. I don't know that ARR has ever created such a "fursat me"
song, I mean if this was the mukhda of the song, the ful song must be
15-20 minutes. Though it sounds nice to hear.

U r rite..Its based on Rajasthani folk..'Pallo latke"..but its interesting how
ARR blends traditional music with his own creative stint...sounds awesum..swaps

Part of the Ila Arun singing portion of Kata Kata is based on a known
Rajasthani folk tune, also previously heard in a Hindi film with the song
titled "Pallo Latke". The other choral parts are purely Rahman's melodies.

I think it's cool how Rahman used the original Rajasthani folk tune and blended
it in so nicely in Kata Kata.

Rahman did something similar in the songs Mercury Pookal and O Paalanhare,
using a known melody sung in traditional Bhajans and using it tastefully and
delicately in both songs, blending his original tune with the traditional
melodic verse.

[arr] Re: Volume Track Differences between Beera and the two Veeras

2010-05-29 Thread Devan
In compilation cds there will be tracks from various albums with various track
levels. So to bring them all to same level the companies will surely alter the
audio structure of some tracks. This is not a good job at all. Some portions may
sound high or low than the first release.I dont think they will add new into
the tracks.

Yes, AR has once mentioned about this to Ashanti Omkar in an
interview. Also if I'm not wrong, there's a mention to this album in
the unofficial biography by Kamini Mathai.

If you ain't seen / heard Neethi Muhan performing Maiyaa Maiyaa, then you
'ain't seen anything..

I think Sadhana does not sing many songs these days, just CHUPKE SE and may be
one more.

Logistics wise I guess, having a small crew could be better ?

2010-05-29 Thread manisha madhavan
Did anyone else also notice that there is an extra verse in Thok De Killi which
is not present in Kodu Poatta? At about 3:43 or so...in TDK there is another
verse added but in KP it goes right to the chorus...

nevertheless i think the idea was to listen to each soundtrack as whole
completely and not play each version of each track back to back...where we are
then able to notice these differences...

raavan and raavanan will certainly have 2 different masters. Specific to this,
there are some obvious arrangement level differences, then there is every
reason to believe they are mastered with different tastes. Quitly likely.

I am talking of Same song released in X and showed up a compilation CD from Y

The difference wont be due to tseries and sony releases. Remember guru tamil
and hindi releases. Both are released by sony bmg. But the two sounded
differently. Hindi release was much better. Thats why i think this difference
in raavan versions occured during mastering. Not damn sure

There will be so many lead singers to follow for sure !! I guess these
singers r the permanent singers for all the 20+ Concerts going to take place
as they r totally free !! Besides Alphones joseph is also attending the
reharsels !! Some older singers might not be able to make it to the list i
think ...as it's very hectic to do concerts almost daily in different cities
! they will attend some of the concerts according to their availability and
physicial condition !! I am so worried about the fact that they r doing
concerts almost everyday !! it will be hectic like hell for sure !!

just calculated thoughts,nothing else !!
