Superbb music. The album sounds very promising and seems to go way ahead of
our expectations, despite the trumpet bits in the song carrying the Iruvar
influence (Vennilla Venillaa).

I expect typical synth-orchestral elements in the arrangements [Esp in the
theme song], with Michael Columbierish percussions and a lot of Live
Choir[Which many other Indian composers have already started experimenting].

[arr] Rock climber

2010-07-28 Thread satish_srini
While Aamir Khan is known to take interest in the music of a film, rather every
film he's acting in, Ranbir Kapoor is doing it for personal reasons. The actor
plays a rockstar in Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar and is working hard to get under the
skin of his character.

So, the actor decided to give it his best shot. Since music plays a very
important role in the film and AR Rahman is composing it in this one, Ranbir
wants to understand it thoroughly. That is why he has started making frequent
trips to AR Rahman's studio.

An insider says, "Ranbir is taking keen interest in the music of the film. The
actor knows that music is the soul of this film and that he needs to understand
its pulse to really get into his character."

Apart from taking guitar lessons, Ranbir is also brushing up on his rock music
knowledge. Talking to Saif Ali Khan might help?

But just being in the presence of AR Rahman, must prove to be a music lesson in
itself for Ranbir.

Sure enough, the actor apparently just sits quietly at Rahman's panoramic
studio, while watching him work his magical fingers on his digitised equipment."

Apparently, the character Ranbir plays is a Jim Morrison fan. But for a
Rahman-besotted Ranbir, that might just prove to be another challenge.

2 bollywood movies, 1-2 tamil movie(s), 2 hollywood movies in a year, with
right support from directors who can extract the right and appealing music
out of ARR would do the magic. i think that would be right mix.
ARR obviously knows what he is doing. i wish my thoughts sync with what ARR

I think posting declared fake lists in this group is fun. I enjoyed
all fake lists in past. A lot of thinking and efforts goes in creating
in a "real"-like fake list.

However, wiki is an almost authentic reference source for information
worldwide. Wiki is a no-profit work intended to help the world for
free. Posting fake lists there undermines the authenticity of wiki. I
request members not to do that.

Post all fake lists here. But do tell beforehand that it is a fake
list so that people don't feel cheated when they come to know that it
was fake.

Re: [arr] Re: No more Bollywood for Rahman! - TOI Article

2010-07-28 Thread wiredbeats
I dont trust this article. Rahman will never make a statement like this. This
is
too huge a decision worthy of making news headlines in TV channels ( not
breaking news...just news). When this is actually trivialized.

And i dont think Rahman would have said anything to this effect.

If this is by any remote chance a true statement by the man himself then i
deeply regret his stance. He has a long future ahead in Bollywood as against
Hollywood.

Hollywood music is very stereotyped and another slumdog kind of music wont
work.

guys,

The following might happen soon as ARR has to work only in hollywood and need
to sacrifice the followwing indian assignments.

1. no maniratnam movies going forward looks like ravanan has taken more time
then boss expected and mani asked for 3 or 4tunes per song.. boss definelty
would have got disppointed and movie also didnt do well ...

2. again split between shankar and boss like earlier happened during boys ..so
shankar might permanantly look for another composer who can give quality of
music with less time.. so he would have opted for YSR .. lokks Harriss might
take long time for each film

3. goutham menon also might look for diffent  composer becasue of ARR
unavailabily. .
so it is huge opertunity for YSR to grap the chance and come up well..

so arr loss is gain for YSR and harris in tamil film industry..

It would be good if boss continues to hollywood movies with big budget and
regain the attention of west once again other wise west might forget ARR

Here are the 3-Idiots in Tamil

IndiaGlitz [Monday, July 26, 2010]

Another going to be much hyped film of the year, the remake of Hindi ‘3
Idiots’, is taking shape as Shankar who is directing this bilingual is ready
after completing his ‘Endhiran’. With a lot of imaginations already flowing
from all corners it became clearer yesterday when Gemini Film Circuit finally
confirmed that Shankar will be in charge of the south Indian remakes.
Immediately after signing the project director Shankar went to Vijay and
confirmed him for the Aamir Khan's role. Then Madhavan was confirmed for the
same role he played in Hindi version. But there is still news saying Madhavan
is not interested to do the role again. Whether he will be able to say no to a
Shankar film is a question. For the third main lead Silambarasan aka STR is
confirmed. Initially Jeeva was pushed to do this role but Shaknar has opted for
STR.
In Telugu, as per news available till now, Mahesh Babu will replace Vijay and
Madhavan and STR are being retained for the Telugu also. And for music Shankar
may have to leave A R Rahman out as he will be busy on his 'Jai Ho' World Tour
all this year. Sources say Shankar has settled for Yuvan Shankar Raja this time.
Another high profile film in the making.

2010-07-28 Thread Ram Motipally
Ohh it appears we were his fans so far because he listened to us, worked in the
movies we told him to work in and with directors we would like him to work
with.
And now, he will no longer listen to us and will only spend time doing vague
hollywood work. I know my comments are tongue-in-cheek.

On a serious note let us all remember that AR made all his choices and we only
enjoyed the output. If we have come so far with boss' music, let us trust him
to
make the right choices going forward also and just sit back and enjoy his
music.
My two cents.

Are we AR fans for his music or for the reason that he composes for

[arr] Why Raavan's songs were not a waste of AR's efforts

2010-07-28 Thread Indmov Buff
This is partly in response to a comment on the TOI article about AR focussing
on
Hollywood only from now on (which I don't believe fully yet). The comment said
how the reader was "disappointed with the fact that Mani Ratnam asked for 3-4
tunes for the same lyric. Mani shud have first had a strong script and
screenplay before kicking off the movie. I personally think that Mani WASTED
rahman's time with the half-baked script of Raavan."

My understanding was that AR gave most of his directors more than one tune to
choose from. And I remember AR mentioning at the audio release function of
Raavan that the music was put together quite quickly so I am baffled at this
article.

And I am not sure I can say that music that comes from the Mani-ARR camp is
anyone's waste of time or effort. Raavan (despite its flaws) is a cinematic
masterpiece. The treatment of AR's songs in the movie was unique, beautiful and
more importantly a vital part of the narration in many ocassions.

For eg

Behene De, a key moment in the narration. We are introduced to Raavan's
feelings
towards Ragini for the firt time and so is he. He is amazed, intrigued and
attracted. It is in this song that the two most important dialogues of the
movie are said. One where beera (in response to raagini's question about why he
didn't kill her after she jumped off) tells Ragini that he was going to, but
that someone had re-written that piece of fate, unfortunately for him. And in
response to this Raagini tells him that to make a note now that how she will be
the one responsible for his death, his fate- which was indeed the case at the
end of th movie (irrespective of the circumstances).

Kalvare/Khille Re: An elegantly shot love song between a husband and his wife.
Tastefully choreographed by Shobhana and again an important part of the
narration because it's the only time we get to see Ragini's relationship with
Dev. She essentially is seducing him in the song and also there is a sense of
Ragini's god-like (blind) devotion to Dev. Again, a very important piece of
information for the movie's narration because it is the only window into the
Dev-Raagini relationship.

The haunting Ranhja Ranjha in the movie was yet again a beautiful reflection of
Raamayan. We see Ragini battling the demon in Ravana and trying to escape his
clutches. He never touches her. Only his hands run over her body as if drawing
out her space. There is a lot of tension in that scene which can be interpreted
in many ways. Again, lovely addition to the narration.

Thok de is the only time we see that a strong sense of uprising amongst the
"lower caste" didn't only exhist amongst Beera and his family but amongst the
entire community of'Lal maati'. Again, a powerful addition to the narration.

Kata Kata: The most significant moment in the movie forms the last part of this
beautifully shot Mani Ratnam style wedding song. The song takes the audience
through both ends of the emotional spectrum, from the colourful and joyful
wedding processions to the cunning shooting of Beera which leads to the series
of tragic incidents involving Jamuniya.

Jaa Re - the killer track. Without this song, the climax of the movie would be
half-dead. It evokes all the emotions that it should with the audience. The
freefall of Beera who dies (in his words) with immortal happiness.

I haven't commented on the cinematography of the songs since the scenes speak
for itself. So for me the entire Raavan soundtrack was used substatially in the
movie to take the film forward. That's one of the biggest respect a musician
could get from his director. Without the songs, we would have no movie. Half of
the narration was in fact in the movie. I'd rather have songs that contribute
constructively to the narration like Raavan than those where you break into a
dream sequeance with a million dancers (however grand the scenaries are) to
start shaking your legs to AR's songs. The music and the master deserve much
more respect than that.

indeed. he is a good director if not great. his Hancock was quiet good
although critics hated it. it was enjoyable and was a huge success.

Chief Minister Karunanidhi rarely visits the office of his Kalaignar TV
which is in the same building Anna Arivalayam where his party’s head office is
functioning. A couple of days ago the CM who visited the party head quarters
went to Kalaignar TV unannounced. People who followed him were surprised when
he actually started work at the channel
office. The CM there recorded a greetings message to be played at the music
launch function of ‘Endhiran’ which is happening in Malaysia later this month.
Sun TV officials were waiting at Kalaignar TV office to record the message. This
is the first major pre music release news about ‘Endhiran’. According to
sources the CM is expected to give a more elaborate introduction to the film as
its release date gets nearer. Big time for big people.http://entertainmen
