He doesn't take sides; he stands by it and firmly. He is a true music lover and a strange one too. Because his all time favourite song is from the film Satte Pe Satta called 'Dilbar Mere'. In a quick brief chat, Nikhil takes us through his best tracks from Mani Ratnam films, including Raavan and more. Favourite soundtrack from Hindi film I have stories behind each one of my favourite soundtracks. But my 'the favourite' soundtrack from a Hindi film has to be 'Dilbar Mere' from Satte Pe Satta. All the seven songs from the album are my favourite. It's the best album I've ever heard. It's strange but that's the fact. The first brush of music remains with you throughout your life. It's mystical. When I was a young boy, Satte Pe Satta released. Over the years, the music of that film has grown for me. Not to forget, it had my favourite actor, Mr Amitabh Bachchan. It had my favourite music composer, Mr R.D. Burman. It had Kishore Kumar singing the songs. It had Asha Bhonsle who is my favourite too. I think Amitabh Bachchan has never looked so handsome to me in his entire life than in Satte Pe Satta. Favourite soundtrack from Raavan It has to be the title track 'Beera'. Yes, what a wonderful way to describe Raavan in that song. It says so much and everything about this man called Raavan. People have liked the Mission Impossible themes, National Anthems, James Bond themes, etc. You get the idea of what Raavan is all about. It has superb lyrics from Gulzaar saab and music woven beautifully by the genius A.R. Rahman. Raavan music - Not that great? When any of A.R. Rahman albums release, everyone says that the album is not that great. Thirty days later, they'll say 'Oh, it's catching on' and sixty days later they'll say 'It's the greatest album ever produced.' I am hardly surprised by the reactions of the music reviews. Why this demand for difference? Mani Ratnam is a maker who isn't trying to create a different album. He isn't a pop artist. He is a filmmaker. He will create songs that'll do justice to the scenes and its story and its characters. Mani's songs take the story forward. How different does a 'Dangerous' sound from a 'Thriller'? It's the same crooning of Michael Jackson. It's the same innuendo's. There will always be a difference in A.R. Rahman tracks, Michael Jackson tracks and R.D. Burman tracks but yet they are not different and that's why we like these composers. Favourite Mani Ratnam film soundtrack My favourite track from any of Mani's film is 'Chaiya Chaiya' from Dil Se. I liked 'Huma Huma' too from Bombay. It was the biggest hit ever from Mani Ratnam films. I like 'Anjaana' from Yuva too. Again, all three songs were commercial hits. regardsLiku

Says Gulzar Saab, Both Mani and I felt the music that Rahman had composed for the end titles was too beautiful to go wordless. We decided to give words to Rahman's creation. Speculations are rife that Ratnam, who was applauded for his sensitive portrayal of the Sri Lankan ethnic conflict in Kannathil Muthamittal, did not wish to antogonise the Tamil community by being seen in Colombo this year. The director has otherwise had cordial relations with IIFA, even premiering his film Yuva at the Singapore event in 2004. Meanwhile Bollywood superstar and IIFA brand ambassador Amithab bhachan has angry Tamil protestors shouting slogans outside his Mumbai residence. On Tuesday morning a group of over 50 to 60 people gathered outside Bachchan's home. The protestors did not want IIFA awards to be hosted in Sri Lanka where several thousand Tamilians were killed. Bachchan had also met Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse when he visited Lanka last month to announce the venue for IIFA. The protestors sat outside the Bachchan residence even as the presence of police personnel has increased. This is the second time that Bachchan is being targeted over the same issue. A group of Tamils had marched from the superstar's Pratiksha bungalow to his Jalsa residence in Mumbai last month urging him to boycott the Colombo awards ceremony. The protest was joined by Canadian Tamils too. We urge him not to attend the function in Colombo as a symbol of solidarity for the Tamilian cause in Sri Lanka. Tamils have been subject to atrocities and war crimes perpetrated by the Mahinda Rajapaksa government in that country, C. Rajendran, spokesperson for the protesters, had told the media in April. The Canadian Tamil Congress also appealed to Bachchan to stay away from Sri Lanka. Amitabh is a great hero for us in the Tamil diaspora, but we are very disturbed and profoundly saddened by our hero's proposed visit to a regime which has perpetrated crimes against Tamils. By visiting Sri Lanka, Amitabh will be lending credibility to a regime which has destroyed Tamils ruthlessly and committed horrendous human rights violations. When Tamils continue to suffer in Sri Lanka and numerous human rights bodies have implicated the regime in crimes against humanity, we plead with a person of Bachchan's stature not to go there to help a government that is desperately seeking recognition from the world community in spite of its crimes, the organisation said. Later in his blog, Bachchan wrote that he would respect everyone's sentiments. The sentiments of all must be respected and I hope that we can plan and execute that with understanding, peace and grace, the actor posted on his blog referring to the protests by Tamil groups. A Tamil group picketed my houses, asking me to not conduct IIFA in Sri Lanka. Another thing Rawat, if u feel u want to listen to ARR's Tamil songs (Yes, im guessing ur missing allot of his Gems, seriously)... i would like u to go through these albums,they were not dubbed into Hindi. 1.Kangalal Kaithi Sei (M-A-G-I-C)-- says it all. 2.Anthimanthirai (the most underrated album, but the theme musics r mindblowing) 3.Uzhavan (start with Pennale Pennale, an amazing song) 4.Iruvar (oh please please listen to this, magical Mani-ARR album) 5.Sangamam (i think u wont be able to like this, since its a very typical South Indian flavor, but nevertheless, u should not miss Sowkiyama.) 6.Thenali's Porkalam, Thakirikitha, Swasame. 7.Kannathil Muttamittal (Excellent album, esp Vellai Pookal and Kannathil Muttamittal by Chinmayi) 8.Rhythm (amazing score... the panchaboothangal - 5 elements were composed beautifully in each song. Each songs represent each element. Listen to them and guess which is which... ;) ) 9. Boys (Amazing album, it was a second Roja for ARR in Tamil. This album made ARR bounced back again, after a serious of flops in Tamil, both movie and album wise - read Star, Alli Arjuna, Udhaya, PArashuram). On the dubbed albums, here r the once u SHOULD not miss. 1.Alaipayuthey (Original version of Saathiya) - Listen to Pacchai Niramey, Hariharan gave the whole song such life. He sung the song as if he is whispering those beautiful lyrics into the lady's ears. Such soft and delicate song. Sneghidene was beautiful as the male chorus had a very haunting magic in it. And Sadhana did a wonderful job in the Tamil/Telugu version. U should listen to know what i mean. And Evano Oruvan is such a powerful song. Such sadness in the song. Was totally missing in that Hindi version. And ARR used this song as BGM so beautifully in Alaipayuthey. Really emoted the scenes so well. Yaaro Yaarodi is too Tamil folkish to suit the Hindi lyrics. But im surprised how ARR did manage to give it the right feel for Chalka. Still Yaaro Yaarodi had a very rustic feel. Kadhal Sadugudu was soo sweet. A real contrast compared to Adnan' Sami in Aye Udi Udi. Its like 2 different songs. U should listen to Tamil version. it will be a new feel for u. 2.Thiruda Thiruda - Seriously, the Chinese girl's work in Thee Thee is unmatchable... such beautifuly rendered. lovely, and powerful. Ofcource, all the tracks should be listened to be enjoyed. 3.Uyire - All the songs had a different feel. When u listen to Uyire, u wont have a feel ur listening to a dubbed album. It has its own identity. IF u think Lata did a splendid job in Jiya Jale, please listen to what S.Janaki did in Nenjinile. Check out how did she finished the song with her rendition. Just so appropriate. No offense meant to Lata and her version though, just S.Janaki did it too well that it needs such acknowledgment. Do listen to it. Thaiyya Thaiyya had a different feel alltogether, compared to Chaiyya Chaiyya. Poongatrile was magical amazing rendition by Unnimenon. Ofcource the other 90s original Tamil albums should be visited. Just watched VTV...i can say..awsm movie..it feels morea complete real life story...most of th scenes are my own real life story..it really hurt. about title editing...WoW... Tamil names in white letters and English names as its shadows...tat was great ..ther was a big applauses while showing ARR's name. No words to describe ARR's Bgm in the VTV...1.Hosaana Bgm played while karthik says his love to jessy at first, 2.Yen idhayam lady humming without chorus and also Yen idhayam flute bgm. 3.aromale lady bgm, I am crazy about you Bgm , 4.
