I'm a fan from Bangladesh. Even though I'm not an Indian, i loved the track. 
After couple of hearing, i felt inspired. I knew that i may be biased,so went 
on 
giving the song to all my friends, and even family members, and honestly 
speaking everyone loved it. It's a truly international, stimulating anthem. 
Even 
though with ARR's talent he could have done wonders with this song, but he kept 
it pretty simple. And i think it's because he wanted it to reach all the 
masses. 
But for the last two days i can only see negativity coming from the media, 
which 
is very saddening.There are only pointing to those few comments that went 
against the song, but completely have been ignoring the thousands of positive 
comments and love towards the CWH theme song. When i went to the theme blog, i 
only saw good, sublime comments. Yes, there's definitely some people who did;t 
like the song. When for the first time waka waka and waving flag came out, 
hundreds of blogers and reviewers totally wrote these songs off. But look at 
them now. Different people have different perspectives, that's normal. Not 
everyone will love your work. But after reading the Indian newspapers and 
couple 
of senior crappy composer's comments, it seems that they were waiting for 
rahman's CWG song to be released, and pounded like a shameless naked cat on it 
and started bashing it.

I read an article on this song in mailtoday i guess. The reporter(i'm sure is 
an 
owner of zero musical knowledge) was constantly dragging the fact that AR 
Rahman 
was paid 5.5 crore for it. What a cheap shot. Shame on that reporter and the 
editor, Shame on you ppl. He earned it. They were insisting on the fact that 
indian Govt' shoud have hired shakira or other international artists. I don't 
get it He is a double oscar winner. He himself is a global musical icon. He's 
achievements are far superior than any shakira or any xyz. Very sad, very 
disappointing. Even in this fan forum there are some ppl who are not supporting 
rahman, the way they should. Anyways, i loved the song and Can't wait the video 
to come out.

Appreciate your input. This album will def not appeal to everyone. I like how

I have a question:

Has ARR ever scored for a sci fi movie like this one before? 

This movie seems like a perfect opportunity for Rahman to experiment with 
sound, 
as we're talking about robots and future, etc.  So, I do expect to hear quite a 
bit of electronica in this album, given by the looks of the movie so far. I 
also 
expect to hear interesting sonic juxtapositions.strings, brass, 
electronicaRahman being the usual sound alchemist, but with more emphasis 
on 
individual instruments and flashy effects rather than soundscapes and soothing 
textures. 


With Shankar at the helm, I also expect the music to be louder and noisier that 
what we've heard in recent ARR albums, which may not be a bad thing since this 
is the type of album that will need to have a lot of mass appeal, boosting 
ARR's 
commercial credentials even further.  I also expect a high emphasis on rhythm 
more than melody.  I just hope we get clear sound and not too cluttered 
arrangements.  I'm also hoping for not too much high pitch yelling or rapping.

Now, with the Oscar tag that ARR carries around, like his recent albums, the 
international pressure is on and I expect Rahman to do a lot of genre sampling 
in this album, as he's done many timeseach song representing a particular 
genre of music.  With this type of movie with a very Western backdrop and sci 
fi 
theme, I expect jazz, rock, techno at the very least. 


Overall, I'm sure the music will sound fresh and intriguing, possibly with a 
low 
growing factor since these songs are probably designed to be mass commercial 
hits given Rajnikant's presence and Shankar's history with ARR.  Somehow, I'm 
getting a "Don 2" feel for this movie and expect some parallels with the 
soundtrack from that movie, although Rahman's originality and sound 
experimentation will stand out.  Unlike VTV, I don't expect too many soothing, 
subtle, artistic numbers, which is what one should not expect for this type of 
movie.

The hype for the music is scary.people calling the movie one of the 
greatest 
ever in Indian history, the biggest star studded audio launch ever, etc. etc.  
Just hope the music lives up to the expectations, otherwise expect to hear 
disappointment.  Overall, I expect reactions to be a mixed bag, but mostly 
positive.  Rahman cannot satisfy everyone with just one album..there are 
way 
too many tastes and different musical minds out there!  But, Rahman will be 
given credit for a very creative soundtrack that matches the film's theme and 
story and I have a feeling this soundtrack will get more international 
recognition than some of his previous domestic soundtracks since the Oscars.

Yes! I was there! :)

What an evening! I'm still so excited! :)

Awesome experience! This was the best Audio launch I've been to!
Lovely evening, very well planned, and very well organised ... The format of 
the show was very much similar to the Raavan (Hindi) audio launch... The 
beautiful forest set on the stage was also similar! :)

Actor Karthik and Priya Mani were MCs for the evening. Actors Prithviraj, 
Prabhu, Vikram were called on to the stage, one by one, separated by 
performances. . 

Singer Karthik's Usurey Pogudhey was the first... Awesome 
performance singer Karthik and Dr Narayan with 
live strings (Srinivasa Moorthy sir conducted it)...

The second performance was dance by Vikram and co for Kodu potta song... 
The third one was bigger!! AR and Vairamuthu came up to the stage for the 
"unreleased" song "Naan Varuvaen"! AR mentioned that this was done after all 
songs were closed, a very late idea struck them, which led to creation of this 
song. He also mentioned that this song is used during an important part of the 
movie...

Kalvarey was the only full song that was screened therehalf of Kodu potta 
was shown, and a montage of clips of the movie was shown with usurey pogudhey 
and Veera as the background. And the trailer was also screened...
I loved the way Kalvarey was picturised.. . only Mani sir can do it! So simple, 
but elegant Most part of the song is shot in a house - on the porch, in the 
kitchen, in the bedroom, as ash is shown dancing throughout moving about the 
house along with Prithviraj! 

My expectations are raising higher and higher! Cant wait for the movie

Furthermore who are we to judge the standard and quality of the compositions of 
our dear musical genius ARR? He has gained 
international recognition for his versatility and ability to handle almost any 
genre of music. With his knowledge and experience 
over the last 18 years, he is the best person to decide what sort of a 
composition will suit the film and the placements of the songs 
as pitched by the director of the film. Ultimately the director has the final 
say over which tunes will make it to the big screen. 

So pls i humbly request to all members of this group to be mindful of your 
comments over boss's works! Pls start appreciating a song 
as it is and you will certainly begin to realise the beauty of the composition 
and arrangement instead of always making comparisons 
to previous works of his. I m also pretty sure that ARR never lets a song slip 
out of his hand and reach the ears of others till he is 
truly satisfied with the final result. So pls be mindful of the effort that our 
boss puts into every piece of composition before you 
potentially make another harsh comment abt his song or album!

Hey pls chill dun get overly emotional over things. All i wanna say here is pls 
stop comparing one album with another. There is no 
way on earth for person to define something as the best or unsurpassable cos 
every one has their own taste and preferences.

Furthermore who are we to judge the standard and quality of the compositions of 
our dear musical genius ARR? He has gained 
international recognition for his versatility and ability to handle almost any 
genre of music. With his knowledge and experience 
over the last 18 years, he is the best person to decide what sort of a 
composition will suit the film and the placements of the songs 
as pitched by the director of the film. Ultimately the director has the final 
say over which tunes will make it to the big screen. 

So pls i humbly request to all members of this group to be mindful of your 
comments over boss's works! Pls start appreciating a song 
as it is and you will certainly begin to realise the beauty of the composition 
and arrangement instead of always making comparisons 
to previous works of his. I m also pretty sure that ARR never lets a song slip 
out of his hand and reach the ears of others till he is 
truly satisfied with the final result. So pls be mindful of the effort that our 
boss puts into every piece of composition before you 
potentially make another harsh comment abt his song or album!

Another final word. I know that all of us guys admire our boss a lot but pls 
dont start having unrealistic expectations and eventually
becoming disappointed in the most immature way ever!

Hey guys as an Audio Engineering student i
just wanna clear the air on this topic on audio bit rates.

The bitrate for audio cds according to the Red Book Standard is calculated as 
follows=>

The bitrate of audio CD is calculated by muliplying the sampling rate by the 
resolution by the 
number of channels: 

44.1 kHz X 16 bit X 2 chan. = 1,411 kbps (Kilo Bits Per Second)

So pls do not be mistaken that 128kbps is CD quality. Also Wav and AIFF are 
uncompressed loseless
audio formats as compared to MP3.

I hope u guys have a better idea about bitrates for audio CDs now.

 band my recording assignment. Just alittle info about myself. I am a 
Audio Engineering student at SAE Institute Singapore. SAE Institute is the 
largest practical college for Audio Digital Film Production, Animation and 
Games in the world, established in 1976 with a network of over 50 colleges 
on 4 Continents. In fact some of you might have known that ARR'S

What Programming DoesProgramming gives you access to a range of sampled sounds, 
which you can then 
use in whatever way you want on a piece of music. You can bring in all 
different 
types of drum and percussion sounds to create the beats, for instance, or put 
together bass lines from different low sounds. You can, if you wish, create 
entire pieces of music just using programming.
How It WorksFirst of all you select the sounds you're going to use. Most 
programming 
software offers a wide range of rhythm and other sounds to choose from, 
all of which are samples, but you can also import your own sounds if you wish.
Before you can start programming, you have to become familiar with the
 piece of music to which you're adding material. Listen to it over and over. 
Don't think about how much you can add, but how little. Subtlety generally 
works better than overkill. What needs emphasising in the piece? Where 
is it lacking? Above all, the question to ask is what can programming 
add to this?

Having decided what to do, play through the sounds in your library to 
find those that are appropriate. Programming generally works in loops. 
They can range from a single beat to a phrase, and those are your tools. 
You can build your own loops, or, with some programmes, use the
ones provided. You work on the computer, fashioning your loops and 
adding them to the material (which should be in a recording software 
programme you have).However, if, say, you're a singer-songwriter,
 wanting to programme drums and bass behind your song, you actually
 begin with the programming before adding your other real instruments and voice.

The Mechanics of ProgrammingWith so many possibilities out there, the choice of 
what software to use 
for programming is quite complex. For beginners, something intuitive - 
easy to use, where instinct moves you from step to step without constantly 
looking at the instructions - is best. Some, like Acid Express, are free 
downloads. Others, such as Fruity Loops, offer a free demo download.
 It's worth investigating and trying several for nothing before settling 
on the one you want to buy.For a drum pattern, build bar by bar. 
It can either sound natural, as if a real drummer were playing it, 
or created in such a way that it would be impossible to play 
(as in jungle, for example). You can repeat bars, add fills, do 
whatever you like - the only limits are those of the software
 you're using and the sounds it has.Much the same applies to bass 
and other instruments and sounds. You'll quickly discover that a sound 
can be either melodic or percussive, depending on the way you use it. 
Programming expands the possibilities of your music. By using 
atmospheric loops you can also change the ambience of the music
 by careful use of underlying sounds, or you can add unexpected accents.
Programming is extensively used in remixing, where a producer won't 
augment the original track; instead they'll cut it up and use it as the
 basis for something entirely new. This is where programming takes 
over, rebuilds and remakes the music at the edge of the producer's imagination.
But for working with regular tracks, less can be much more. 
Programming is fun to use, and the possibilities are almost endless, but a 
little goes a long way.

Oscar-winning music maestro A.R. Rahman's media-shy better half Saira Banu 
walked the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre here for the 81st Annual Academy 
Awards.

Clad in a black kurta-churidar by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, the demure wife of the 
maestro has by choice always maintained her distance from the limeligh till 
date. She was not a much known face among the Indians, let alone on the global 
platform before appearing at the awards.

Saira Banu was all over the TV screens worldwide when she walked the red carpet 
clinging to her husband's right arm throughout the ceremony.

Not much of a speaking lot, both husband and wife have had perhaps the maximum 
number of public appearances courtesy the worldwide success of Danny Boyle's 
Mumbai-based rags-to-riches story Slumdog Millionaire.

Rahman won two golden statuettes - for best original song Jai ho and best 
original score for the film.

while walking down
the red carpet with wife Sairaa, and later receiving two Oscars, at the 81st 
Annual Academy
Awards 2009 at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA, Sunday, February 22.

Rahman won Oscars for Original Score and Original Song for Slumdog Millionaire, 
the runaway
success story of the evening which swept the awards night with 8 wins from 10 
nominations.

Rahman also performed O Saya and Jai Ho during the evening watched by millions 
across the
globe.

Known to be creative and prolific when composing music, Rahman was largely at 
loss of words
when collecting the Oscars.

"I just want to thank again the whole crew of Slumdog Millionaire, especially 
Danny Boyle, for
giving me such a great opportunity, " the composer said in his award acceptance 
speech.

"All my life I've had a choice of hate and love. I chose love, and I'm here. 
God bless," he
added.

For the red carpet walk, the 43-year-old composer from Tamil Nadu in India wore 
black single
button satin collar suit with dark grey satin shirt and silver grey silk tie.

His wife Sairaa was gracefully dressed in a black and gold salwar and kameez 
set. The kameez
with full length sheer sleeves was embellished with zardozi work. Elegantly 
draped around her
head was a matching dupatta with heavy zardozi work and red edges..

Her auburn wavy locks peeped through the dupatta.

She wore coral lip color and golden eye shadow with thick black eyeliner on the 
eyelids.

Rahman becomes the third Oscar winning Indian after costume designer Bhanu 
Athaiya for her work
in Gandhi (1983) and director Satyajit Ray in 1992.

Hi Vithur Bro,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I tried using karaoke softwares as you 
suggested but removing the vocals seems impossible. ARR and Sridar Ji
are the best in creating excellent mixes which are so complex that can 
never be tempered with! So is there any other solution available? Please
advise bro! My cousin wants me to sing this song for his birthday
and if i dont he is gonna kill me. So pls help! I need the minus 1
ASAP so that i ve got enough time to rehearse ! Thx!

Thanks for the pictures Gopal. Are there any pictures of ARR receiving the 
award on stage or ARR posing with his trophy. I cant find any such picture 
on the net . We had so many pictures from the Golden Globes but hardly 
any from BAFTA?!

reported that the dubbed version is releasing on 14 Feb. But there is no news

I guess its Gomathi Sree (The female vocalist in Sahara - sung by Vijay Yesudas 
from Sivaji The Boss). Try listening to both the songs again, you ll find the 
similarity.

I can but I need an original DVD with 5.1 surround to do so. And I don't think

This my first mail to this group. Really proud to be a Rahmaniac. The recent 
interview of our BOSS on Sun TV was awesome. For those who missed it and for 
those who wish to relive those moments, here u go.

I have put together excerpts from the interview to create an audio version of 
the making of Taxi Taxi from Sakkarakatti. Do check it out and feel free to
