According to a source, every scene in the movie is important, and Gowarikar did not want the flow to suffer. Therefore, the lavishly shot songs had to go. It was a very good idea to have a qawwali, as it was a traditional aspect in the lives of kings. It was difficult for Ashutosh, but he also asked for Rahman's take on the decision, and chopped the songs off only when Rahman agreed, the source adds. The songs will be added in the DVD of the movie. Apparently, Ash wanted to use it in one of her upcoming movies, but Gowarikar may not agree.Gowarikar has a reputation for making long movies.The Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan was almost four hours long, and the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Swades was three and a half hours long.In more recent times, there is a lot of criticism for the way a movie is presented, and the director did not want any of that. According to the source, the final cut, so far, is three and a half hours. Hi friends, Am a die hard Fan of Rahman...and this is coming from my heartcause i feel for Rahman...Why Rang De basanti's music hasnt been marketed strongly...Actually after the release of the movie the music...should pick up more strongly..the music compant should market it more strongly.but after RBD movie release the music promotions of the songs have totally stopes..on etc and v channel...nither the songs tu bin bataye and lukka chuppi have been shown after the movie release...Why such a treatment to Rahmans outstanding Music... and than at the end of the day we will see...songs like jalak dikhlaja taking away the credits..due to heavy marketingI think Our Boss should Take Interest in how his songs..and music will be marketed.gopal would like to have ur comment on this...? A recent casting notice reveals that the Bollywood-themed musical will play Toronto's Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts in summer 2006. Produced by Nick Manos and Atlanta's Theater of the Stars, the engagement is just one stop on the forthcoming North American tour. No other details have been announced. The musical featuring a score by A R Rahman and Don Black and a book by Meera Syal and Thomas Meehan was based on an idea by Shekhar Kapur and Lloyd Webber, who co-produced the London mounting. The New York production at the Broadway Theatre played 31 previews and 284 regular performances before closing Jan. 1, 2005. Bombay Dreams tells the story of Akaash, a brash young slum dweller who dreams of becoming a Bollywood movie star and meeting his idol, the voluptuous screen siren Rani. And wouldn't you know it, his dreams come truebut not without some personal costs and a good dousing in an on-stage dancing fountain. The production mirrors many a Bollywood musical in its lavish and plentiful production numbers, which find a good portion of the grinning Bombay population joyously dancing in unison to a propulsive beat. The show's centerpiece is perhaps the disco-ish Shakalaka Baby, in which Rani and Akaash dance in and around a growing fountain. The musical was directed by Steven Pimlott and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast and Farah Khan. The show, which brought East Indian-flavored music and dance to the West End and later to Broadway, had its world premiere at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre on June 19, 2002.
