[arr] Tunes recycled - A young chaps challenge

The reasons for this can be speculated by all of us, meanwhile one can confidently say that for the same reasons, ARRs music will also prove to be eternal. Regards, Archit Mumbai Date: Wed, 21 Dec 2005 01:20:41 - From: anuja [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Tunes recycled -An old chaps challenge one is conscious inspiration, well thought out and planned. second could be inspiration without even knowing the source ourselves. for eg. that jeans song whose 1st line sounds like 'o mere sona re'. i read in a post here, that when ARR was asked about it, he said its a co-incidence. but the fact is that there is similarity in notes. which for me means that when one's brain is the kinds that is pre- occupied with musical notes most of our days and nights, one wouldnt even realize the starting point of our creativity. neither is it important for the listeners. so when stylegamer and pankaj kakkar are talking about inspiration, are u talking about consciously taking a tune, and coming up with something new? sometimes its just a different treatment like ARR does for his songs? (eg. swades and baba). bcos thats what your examples seem to point to. anyway, we know ARR doesnt need these tunes; i imagine, if he were born 2 or 3 thousand years ago, he would be probably one of those ppl who would be busy inventing ragas! [arr] Re: Tamil songs
mmparthi2003 wrote: i just want to know why hindi speaking people dont give much attention to good tamil songs... For the same reason that tamil speaking people dont :) Clearly, if they are really fascinated by the music, they would never consider language as a barrier. Anyway, lyrics in any language have never been able to do justice to music of ARR. As disturbing as hindi speaking people not listening to good tamil stuff is tamil speaking people listening to sub-standard hindi and sub-standard tamil stuff of hindi quality. 90% of my tamil as well as non-tamil music loving friends still believe in one or more of the following: 1) ARR is a genius but only in copying. He copies and mixes from diverse sources in such a way that nobody comes to know. (How do 'they' know is a question that never got answered). 2) Its not ARR but his computer that composes the music for him. (What stops other MDs from acquiring such a machine?). 3) ARR is strong in harmony and mixing and no match with certain other MDs in melody. (I have never been able to understand from where these people picked up words like melody and harmony). Coming more to the point, as a Hindi speaking north-indian, I consider not understanding tamil a boon as that way I can concentrate 100% on and only on the music without being distracted by the words or their meanings. I gave up listening to hindi songs and most other forms of music (except Tamil, Indian classical and certain folk) after May Madham 12 years back and dont regret the decision. Also, I have a cute little personal interpretation for most of ARRs music based only on music, which always got muddied if I tried to understand the lyrics or even look at the videos of the songs. One incident: When I was new to ARR, I once thought of understanding the contents of lyrics after listening to a song containing traces of a raaga of monsoon season. Song was Missa Missalade Missandam - Gangmaster (Telegu). I gave the task to a telegu friend who, not being interested in the homework, passed on the cassette to his mother. The project never got completed and his mother was dismayed at the kind of company her son kept. I guess the song probably contained some rotten vulgar lyrics. I dont know and dont want to know. As a Tamilan I listen to both Tamil and Hindi and any language compositions by ARR or any other music director as long as the songs appeal to me... I dont understand any other language excpet Tamil and English but I still listen to other language songs especially Hindi. But when I speak with my Hindi or North Indian friends they simply dont care about tamil songs or any other songs from the southWhether its a genius like rehman or any other music director they dont give much attention to tamil songs even if they are extremly good... But later if those songs are dubbed into hindi they really enjoy it and claim it is an hindi song and they also mention it was a hindi song that was dubbed into tamil... I am not racist or anything its simply an observation rather than an acusation... i just want to know why hindi speaking people dont give much attention to good tamil songs... [arr] Re: Andhi maalai
Ramki, Dev, You have revived some good old memories. Ramki, Thanks for buying the cassette and giving the SideA/Side B listing. Try to get one... I've been trying for a number of years but not successful, I don't think it will be available in Bombay. Dev, It was falsely credited to ARR (in the post-Roja sensation days).. Even I remember hearing the same rumour 12 years back. It is true that the only song which sounds like the familiar ARR is Andhi Maalai. Also, how come that some of the topmost singers sing for an unknown music director for a non-film album which was never publicised well and never became famous? However, other songs like Nilavukku Pakkam - SPB, and Mudhal Muthham do sound original, and do manage to create an atmosphere of warmth. I do remember thinking that even if the album is not by ARR, keeping track of the future works of the music director of the album would be interesting. I have also heard there were other vintage ARR albums, something like 'Fantasy' and 'Set me free' and one of these was later released as 'Andhi Maalai'. Got to sit-down one day and check out the archives for more info on this. Incidentally, obtaining clarification for the above was one of the 1000 things that were there in my mind during the chance 2 min. encounter with ARR at a hotel in Mumbai, but couldnt do so :-) Best Regards, Archit Mumbai Date: Tue, 1 Nov 2005 10:50:12 -0800 (PST) From: Ramkumar Krishnan [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Andhi maalai How come the casette that I bought credits it to his name then? [arr] Re: anybody have fotos of arr and michael jackson programme
Andhi Maalai, a brilliant song from an album of the same name was sung by S. Janaki. I have heard this song 12 years ago from a friend's cassette which he eventually misplaced, and have been searching for it ever since. This is supposed to be a private album probably from ARRs pre-movie days. Would like to have more info about Andhi Maalai and other songs of this album, and whether available for download. - Archit Mumbai From: kumarsree [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: anybody have fotos of arr and michael jackson programme .. also do you have any idea of the songs s.janaki has sung for a.r.rehman\\ sreekumar This e-Mail may contain proprietary and confidential information and is sent for the intended recipient(s) only.
