At your door I bow, I perish, I flourish,
Repair my fortunes, oh my Lord
Whoever came to your door, and bow to you,
found himself being drunk the happiness and sailing
By raising my head, I had many things in desire
A lot of dreams and attempts to fulfill
But when you appear face to face
I wasn't able to look you in the eye
I surely know how to crack and shatter...

AND A NICE MIX OF WESTERN AND HINDUSTANI CLASSICAL MUSIC. IT REMINDED ME OF
TANSEN AND MOZART AT THE SAME TIME. I ALSO LIKED THE OTHER SONGS 'ZINDAGI', 'TU

[arr] ONE OF MY FAV COMPOSITIONS OF ARR

2008-08-22 Thread ramya varma

Hi There,

One of my fav compositions of ARR is DHEEMI DHEEMI from the movie 1947
Earth. I just love this song. I actually the entire album. But theres something
about this song that makes me hear it again and again. Now u guys might comment
that.. Well whts new in that.. all ARR songs are like that. Yes. But this
particular song grows on you. It is picturized on Rahul Khanna and Nandita das.
They are cycling away . Its so romantic. So pure. The pace of the song is slow
but very soothing. The words are extremely sensual and so is Nandita in the
song. The song , the words and the picturzation compliment each other very
well. Beautiful. Hariharan SIr.. My God!! He just takes any composition to
another level. Beyond any composers imagination. Lovely. I keep hearing it and
find myself in complete bliss.

Re: [arr] Coffee with Anu - Karthik on ARR

2008-08-17 Thread ramya varma
Hello Vithur,

I happened to see the show too. I quite agree with what Karthick said about our
BOSS. I am also deeply upset that GV didnt say anything about him all through
the show. Karthik also said one another thing about our BOSS, which I thought
was the Golden words about BOSS. He said, One should also learn from him as
how to handle success. He remains so calm even after being such a huge legend.
That was the best thing that was said ever on the show. As for GV not saying
anything about our BOSS, I remember somebody posing a similar question to him
on the audio release of Kuselan , he did thank our BOSS on the podium and also
mentioned that he never discusses music when he meets The BOSS. Maybe he
thought it would be unecessary to discuss about a legend. Nevertheless, He
should have said something.

Ramya

Singer Karthik, when asked by Anu in Coffee with Anu says,

I admire and respect Rahman Sir always, as one of the greatest musicians . I
have been a great fan of him, right from Roja times, and still rememebe the
day, when I started singing for him... He is always admirable and can be
admired for a lot of reasons ... So saying he dedicates his wishes in the
Coffee Mug to AR with a message, Sir. Keep rocking as always, as usual.

Earlier, when he was wanting to talk about ARR, he said, its a long story. Anu
interrupted and asked him to say the story. This also showed the interest of
Anu in ARR.

Actually, the main program was with GV Prakash,,, and sad to know that he didnt
utter a word on BOSS :-(

Music Programmer and Music Producer Krishna Chetan talks in Rahmania

Krishna Chetan's father is a Thumba Player, by name Thumba Raja, and was a
close friend and associate of ARR.

I am Krishna Chetan. I do Music Programming and Music production for A.R.
Rahman. I have been working with him for the past 3 years. I did my five grades
in Music, and solo piano. I learnt from a teacher called Venkatesh. His
daughter by name I Love you.

It was my father's decision that I got introduced to Keyboard. I learnt
Keyboard, and my younger brother learnt the Guitar. My father had three sons,
and hence he wanted to split it up. My another brother is doing rhythms. Since
my father was in the Music field, he guided us to practice it in the proper
way.

As we grow bigger, and get associated with Big people, we tend imbibe their
qualities.

I also play the Drums, along with Keyboard. I used to play cricket. ARR 's
mother and sister used to feel that Chetan along with the group of kids at that
time, were very naughty and used to play pranks to a lot extent.

Music Changes people. I think while learning the Drums, you get some
aggressiveness. You need to have a lot of energy. But for keyboard players, you
need more peace. You need to have a mind set for doing your work.

When I started playing Keyboard, the top player at that time was Joshua
Sridhar. Boys released at that time, and he was working with A.R. Rahman. I
also worked with Joshua for his music production. I have always been inspired
by Rahman, right from my earlier days.

I was very excited to work with him, but then I understood, that he is also a
human being, and that he is kind to everyone. He doesn't have that big attitude
at all. Then slowly, I founded it easy to work with him. The first song that I
worked was Vaaji Vaaji . My second song was from Rang De Basanthi. I have
done a lot of work in Sakkarakatti, Azhagiya Tamizh Magan. In Sakkarakatti, for
two to three songs, I think I have done major work, like emini, hip hop beat
and orchestrations. In Azhagiya Tamizh Magam, did the Ponmagal remix?

We wanted to take it to the next level. That was the only thing in our minds.
We just saw the melody in that song, and saw it as a fresh melody. We thought
of orchestrating it, if it would have been composed recently.

First of all, I be with Rahman from night to day all through. Sometimes, I do
the beats in the groove for him to compose. When he is ready with the tune, we
take it to the next level. The chords, the base and the entire arrangements.
Sometimes, we do it before recording voice or sometimes after recording the
voice. After the tune gets Okayed, we take it to the second stage, producing it
more.

Most of the times, what I have done, and what he wanted me to do, sync well.
Very rarely, things have gone the other way, where he has not approved my work.

The comfort level with Rahman is slowly increasing, and I am becoming more and
more comfortable. More confident. The main advantage is the time. You have all
the time, to do whatever you would want to. He won't rush you or push you.
Since being with him, you tend to travel a lot, and meet the best musicians
around the globe, like Guitarists, flutists. (We work with the best people).
Every Instrument and even voices. It always helps keep discovering, something
new.

Before joining Rahman, I used to spend most of my money in buying instruments
and trying to discover something new, but now Sir sponsors everything. I work
on his equipments. Even if someone gives you a laboratory, you need to know
what is to be done. Do a lot of Research and Development to keep myself
updated.

We make our own food, when we travel abroad. We go out for shopping. Rahman
knows to make omelet (told by Raihanaji). We do bread toast. He also taught me
how to make omelet. Once he took me to the Kitchen, and he made that for me. It
was very nice. He also said, You know why I did this for you, so that from
tomorrow, you would cook this for me. . So, I became the cook from the next
day.

The song Nee Maryln Monroe from ATM all happened in one night itself. This
song was actually an example of a song, which was supposed to be an ordinary
one, but reached a different level altogether.

Most difficult song was Sahaana (May be). The chords were done by Sir. He did
it in one feel and we did the fill over's in the same feel. At one stage, you
won't be able to play normal chords. Your ear grows, when u hear to good music,
and when you play something usual, you will not like it. You will not be
satisfied, until you get something.

The Tamil Chinnamma is a lot different from the Hindi Version. See the
improvisation that our Boss has provided. and Boss running out of ideas... ha
ha ... He is a reservoir of ideas, thoughts , and has direct connection with
the Divine. So no question of him not getting ideas..

Oh I love the use of the violin and the saxophone in the song. It gives a nice

ennavle adi ennavale from movie kadhalan since my IV std. What a fabulous
orchestration by Rehman and big time melody which we nowdays crave to hear from

This movie was dubbed in Hindi as well. But People know only Urvasi Urvasi or

I guez this album wud create history..

A best album given by Rahman after Boys..

A fabulous stuff.. watt songs.. nearly 500 times I have listened all songs are
good..

1.Eley Waata classy composition. . I felt its a better version than
roobarooRDB which has more of an Irish Jazz touch..I feel this bcz Roobaroo
has a simple scale transition.. The harmonica and violin are said to be
perfectly rendered.. The acoustic guitar scale transition in the Eley when it
is repeated seems to be an outta world progression. . No tamil or hindhi song
has such a transition, I find a mixture of Jazz Blues genres.. The lyrics
seems to very suitable for the tune it carries away anybody to 500 yrs from
now..

2.Marudani This song is gonna be the song of the year.. The melody, the tune
and freshness it has in it can beat any track. The loop seems to be very unique
and new. The important point is that the tracks tune overlooks the
orchestration. . The first Piano interlude starting of with a major transition
just flows in ur mind straight away and the middle parah's highlight seems to
be our Rahmanji's humm it comes in fades away within phew secs.. the song's
lyrics is said to be very colorful based on the tradition of a gurl and her
love..

3.Naan Epothu This song would capture anybody in the first listen.. Watta
tune man it kills anybody with its feel.. The best part is that the remade
lyrics suits well in tamil.. I feel this song seems to be different in tamil ..
The lyrics and feel made me cry.. I simply love it..

4.Chinnama This song seems to be a pure south Indian composition. . It makes
anybody to dance.. A next Chayya Chayya in the making.. The voice of Benny
seems to be better than that of Sukhwinder and Chinmaye I doubt whether it was
her voice bcz it was totally different from I miss u da this shows her
versitalty. This song wud be a mass hitt.. The lyrics and tune seems to be even
more better in tamil..

5. Taxi Taxi  This song a pure youth anthem on the cards.. The track has an
international ffeel..It has spanish french lyrics..The backgrounds pads and
bass seems to be the best part of the song..

The song has French lyrics..

il faut que je me depeche parce qu'on m'attend au chennai
il faut que j'aille prendre le taxi à Paris
It means it is necessary that I myself depeche because one awaits me to the
chennai i must will take the taxi to Paris

Another main part is the lyrics on friendship..

6. I miss u da

The song tune is of 50's but the song's beat and orchestration seems to be
trance and a bit of arabic in the interludes.. The song is like a dream ..
nobody could imagine an orchestration this way..

tamil ppl.. will know more regarding this sorta compositions. .I guezz Well bcz
.. These kinda songs where given by MS.Viswanathan in the past 1950's, tracks
like Maalai Pozhundhin Mayakam which is considered to be a super hit in the
50's which is too of the same kinda genre. I feel he is trying out new style of
compositions like bringing out old 50's music touch with a new unique kinda
orchestration. . Well!! tracks like Mayail Iragae, thigu thigu,Munbae Va,
Inisaai, Thazhuvadhu , Maja Maja will all come under this catogory.. The
track thottal poo malarum new was too a track of M.S.Viswanathan re-tuned
version of Rahman..

Tamil ppl like these kinda songs bcz the old type feel is still considered to
be evergreen.. And since it has been softwares dominating the period of time..
Well, Rahmanji is trying something to look back, i.e to look back to old music
which is said to be lost..

I feel this could be a trend change.. Soon there would be a demand for these
kinda songs..

Whenever i listen to this i find something new.. It grows on one slowly...

-Normally I wud not get completely satisfied.. with an ARR album.. but this
album seems to be something above, it seems to be more than expectations. .
This album would surely be noticed for many more years to come.. Sure that its
gonna create a history.. Rahmanji has done his best ever..

Lets hope the best pray for the Director to equalize the expectations
standards something creative in his videos.. Bcz the video would play an
important role to make the songs familiar among ppl..

Regards
Karthikh

Hi Vithur,

I am the  latest entrant into this world of ARR . But I have been his fan since
i was a kid. I was in love with him at the age of 9 when I heard Roja. Since
then I feel I know him for centuries . I am a mad mad fan of him. Its so sweet
of him to attend yuvans film function. Hedid that foe GV Prakash , his nephew,
for Kuselan. I tell u hes a gem of a man, to me hes Buddha Resurrected.

Hey , I wouldnt call it disaapointing . It is an ok movie. Its a simple story.
Has its moments. The high point wud be the character of Genelia's broher and Of
course ARR 's music. Its wonderful. Frankly I saw the movie for the songs. Love
Them.

I second Durba here. The director didnt know when to use the songs.
Whats more surprising is , he himself was the lyricist. Strange !
Sometimes i just wish ARR composes for the yashs, karan johars, and the
bhansalis.
Agreed their movies usually suck, but they handle music so well.

I beg to differ. I think JTYJN was a big time disappoinment. The
movie was ok with some good hilarious scenes but it was clear that
the director has no understanding of making a song sequence. He just
wasted the songs. For example, Tu Bole starts at the very next scene
after Aditi song ends. We havnt gone to see Chitrahar, right? Then
why two songs in two consecutive scenes? So naturally, Tu Bole comes
with the fate of being chopped off after 30 seconds or so. The same
fate with Jane Tu Meri Kya Thi (Sukhwinder version). The situation of
the song arrives at the middle of another song After the first
para of Kahin To (the most ill traeted song), the opening music of
Jane Tu Meri Kya Thi (Sukhwinder version) starts!!! And it was quite
obvious that this song would never take off, for that simple reason,
we are note gone to see Chitrahar.

But one thing I really don't understand why this same story repeats
with ARR again and again? Why his songs being treated so badly in
almost every film? Hindi film is always identified with music and
dance. In last two years whatever movies I have seen and liked are
full with songs. Except Aamir and Sarkar Raj, the movies like JWM,
TZP, Omkara, Metro, etc all has good music and good song sequences
too. The directors of these movies not only succeeded to get good
songs from their MDs but also gave their movies a different dimension
by using the songs the most beautiful way. Then why this never
happens with ARR? The last time I saw ARR's music being used very
well was RDB.

While I can appreciate the concern as ARR's fan, I think we shud be
realistic in our expectations about treatment of songs in movie. I
thought Jaane tu felt like bit stretched in terms of time and two
more
full songs wud have made considerable damage to the movie. I am
happy
that Abbas got two nice songs from Rahman( even though they were
just
meant to be background) and it is not that those songs didn't reach
 public as well.
I am looking forward for future movies from same combo and def Abbas
is here to stay as a director. And yes ARR has probably found a
young
director who makes cool movies and he has been missing such
directors
 for too long.

Poor choreography for Pappu Cant Dance The director made hell

to
hear much from ARR in terms of background music. But i know that
situation was like that in the film where you dont actually need
background music. But who wants to see the film i went there for ARR
and i am happy that ARR has done brilliant job in terms of music.
But
director had done injustice to his music. And more thing the
director
has also edited Jaane Tu Meri Kya Hai from the film. I think ARR
should not work with those people who does not understand his music.
My rating to this movie is 2/5. ARR's music 5/5. Because it was only
ARR's music who made me sit and watch that film. Otherwise i would
have straight away moved out of cinema hall.

By Taran Adarsh, July 4, 2008 - 08:42 IST

Two decades ago, the Mansoor Khan-helmed QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK,
starring two newcomers [Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla], focused on teenage
love, with parental opposition acting as an obstacle. The story wasn't
new, but the treatment was fresh and inventive. QSQT remains one of the
finest reference films in this genre and rightly so!

JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA is a love story as well, but it's more of an
Archie-Jughead- Veronica- Betty kind of a plot, set in the current
milieu. We witnessed a gist of it a few years ago in the Shahid Kapur
launch pad ISHQ VISHK.

JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA doesn't dare to be different. Basically a simple
tale about a group of friends, it focuses on one couple that's in love,
but is in a state of denial. Haven't we watched similar love stories in
the past, you may ask. Sure, we have, but the execution of the subject
makes all the difference.

Write your own movie review of Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na
Large portions of JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA have been executed well by
debutante director Abbas Tyrewala, but the problem lies in the second
hour when the film gets lengthy and also, a few tracks throw a spanner
in the otherwise smooth proceedings. Even the climax, although well
shot, is passé [very filmy in an otherwise real film], since a number
of films have had similar endings.

Yet, despite the shortcomings, JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA works for a number
of solid reasons and that's what the viewer carries home. A decent fare
that takes you back to your adolescence, when friends seem to be the
be-all and end-all.

Jai [Imran Khan] and Aditi [Genelia] are buddies. In fact, they hang
out with their group of friends, but have eyes for each other only.
Their friends know that Jai and Aditi are perfect for each other. Their
parents know this as well. Everybody knows this. But the couple
doesn't. So when do they realize its love?

Don't expect fireworks or melodrama in this prem kahani.
It's an extremely simple, uncomplicated tale that never goes over the
top. The bonding amongst friends is well established. So is the
relationship that Ratna Pathak Shah shares with her deceased husband's
portrait [reminds you of Ashok Saraf-Priya Tendulkar relationship in
the popular comedy show HUM PAANCH].

Besides, the two [popular] songs that come in the initial reels --
'Kabhi Kabhi' and 'Pappu Can't Dance' -- only spice up the proceedings.
The arrival of the 'third angle' in this love story [Manjari Phadnis]
is perfect. Everything is faultless in the first hour.

But the second hour lets you down. The Ayaz-Genelia relationship is,
again, well developed, but the second hour gets a tad lengthy. But what
looks completely out of place in this light and breezy entertainer is
the Rajput connection and how it saves the lead man from the cop
[Paresh Rawal]. This track irritates!

Also, the climax, set in an airport, is beaten to death. There's no
novelty in it, since we've seen the same ending in film after film.

Abbas Tyrewala has the makings of a fine director. A.R. Rahman's music
is already a rage and the two songs at the start are superb
compositions. Cinematography is excellent.

Every member of the cast stands out, but the film belongs to Imran and
Genelia. Imran has been presented as the boy-next-door and that works
in his favor. He has screen presence and acts very well for a first
timer. Most importantly, he looks the part. Genelia adds freshness to
her scenes. What makes you take to Genelia is her spontaneity. Also,
the mischievous look in her eyes conveys sorrow with equal ease. Wish
to see more of her in Hindi movies! Manjari is a complete natural. She
is very effective.

The group of friends -- Karan [as Rotlu], Alishka [as Bombs], Nirav [as
Jiggy] and Sughanda [as Shaleen] -- are excellent. Each compliments the
other well. Ratna Pathak Shah is highly competent. Jayant Kripalani and
Anuradha Patel [as Genelia's parents] are sweet. Pratiek Babbar [as
Genelia's brother] springs a pleasant surprise. He is flawless in an
unconventional role. Ayaz Khan [as Genelia's fiancé] registers a strong
impact. A good actor!

Rajat Kapoor and Kitu Gidwani [as Manjari's parents] are fair.
Naseeruddin Shah is in terrific form. Paresh Rawal, again, is
wonderful. Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan irritate, mainly because the
roles don't work.

On the whole, JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA is a breezy entertainer which will
be loved by its target audience -- the youth. At the box-office,
business at multiplexes should ensure a speedy recovery for this
moderate budget film. A profitable venture!

To praise one and ridicule another is not a done thing. Besides one should give
some respect for her age and none can equal the 'Melody Queen'. Till today her
lilting voice is so welcome in every house.

well. Rawat wants us to develop spiritual strength I believe... teaching us
patience ..

I feel, terming an elderly singer as ugly can be avoided at any circumstance.

Oh Maria and other songs mentioned are still played in all Radio Stations , and
Tv Channels in South. So, I dont think they are forgotten ones..

( A humble feeling. )  Thanks

Yet another one of my random thoughts which now take the form of this post
...nothing new and nothing that might not have been posted here before (in some
format).

ARR inspires so many of us in some way or the other. His humility, his grace and
of course his music ...inspires so many of us to be better in in whatever we do
- to be better human beings in some way or the other.
Gopal, Vithur to name a few...and there are several other people/incidents
which I have read about - people and their actions
- whether its food donations
- work for ARR foundation
- other charitable events/actions
- education (latest being the post I read about the coimbatore fans)
- just simply spreading the joy of this man's music around
are clear testimonials to the magic ...the aura this man radiates which
inspires us .
I dont know where I am going with this but I would like to hear from others too
on how this man has touched/inspired their lives.

I dont think it would wrong in any way to say the ARR and his music are in fact
...for us Rahmaniacs - A Way of Life.rather A Wonderful way of life

I dont think a non-Rahmaniac would appreciate or understand these thoughts
..which is partly what led to this post in the first place ..a friendly
argument (if it can be called that way) with a colleague recently.
