[arr] 2010 – A Promising Year for A.R. Rahman

 2010 – A Promising Year for A.R. Rahman
http://www.cinefundas.com/2010/09/09/2010-–-a-promising-year-for-a-r-rahman
Published on Sep 9 2010

 Maybe,
the previous year was his time to get acclaimed as one of the World’s most
acclaimed musician. His grand success of Academy awards, Grammy, Golden
Globe, BAFTA and many more awards kept him high on spirits. And this year,
it’s been a real treat for his fans witnessing his heavy downpour of albums.

It all started with Gowtham Menon’s ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ and its Telugu
version ‘Ye Maaya Chesavo’. Both the versions topped the charts and ennobled
A.R. Rahman for his earnest attempts of taking Tamil music to the next
level. Especially the song ‘Hosanna’ still remains over the top. Apparently,
his next trilingual album – ‘Raavan’, ‘Raavanan’ and ‘Villain’ and these
albums grossed with record-breaking sales in Indian music market.

His direct Telugu album ‘Komaram Puli’ directed by SJ Suryah is already
making good business at audio markets. After a long sabbatical gap, A.R.
Rahman had composed music for a Telugu album and all the songs including
‘Power Star’, ‘Amma Thale’ have become the favorite numbers even amongst
non-Telugu speaking communities.

Doubtlessly, his recent release ‘Enthiran’ has gone higher over the global
charts breaking the records. It’s worth mentioning that ‘Enthiran’ is the
first Tamil album to have taken a position of No. 1 at World level. The
other versions in Hindi and Telugu titled as ‘Robot’ have already become the
chartbusters. The Hindi music channels have been continuously airing the
songs of ‘Robot’….

Apart from these albums, the academy award winner will score music for
Gowtham Menon’s Hind remake of ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’, which will have
couple of additional tunes. He is now associated with 3 international
projects ‘Nair San’, ‘Desire’, ‘Paani’ and ‘Danny Boyles’ Hollywood movie
‘127 Hours’. Not to forget, his next Hindi album ‘Jhoota Hi Sahi’ is fast on
the way to audio tracks and his previous combination with Abbas Tyrewala in
‘Jaane Ya Tu Jaane Na’ was a tremendous success.

Possibly, ‘127 Hours’ should be yet another key for our Madras Mozart to win
yet another academy honor.

[arr] Rahman's gift to Ashaji

2010-09-09 Thread Thulasi Ram
In an industry where relationships hardly ever stand the test of time,
double Oscar-winning composer AR
Rahman
certainly
wants to be an exception.

The musician, who is being criticised nationally for his composition of the
Commonwealth Games track written by lyricist Mehboob, made a hush-hush trip
to Mumbai just
for a day before boarding the flight to the US for the American leg of his
world tour. BT has learned that while in the city, Rahman shot for a reality
show but his main purpose was to meet one of his icons — Asha
Bhosle,
who turned 77 on Wednesday.

Rahman handpicked 77 roses for the legendary singer to celebrate her
birthday but unfortunately both of them could not match their timings and he
had to courier the bouquet of roses to Asha's residence on Peddar Road. One
of Rahman's closest aides said, "It is a mark of respect from Rahman's side
to Asha, a singer he has idolised for many years now. He somehow wanted to
make the day special for her. When he realised that he couldn't meet her,
Rahman made it a point that the roses reached Asha on her birthday. He also
took a confirmation that the roses had reached her residence from the
courier company before boarding the flight. Rahman wanted to keep the visit
secret as he did not want unnecessary media attention on him at a time when
he is being criticised by almost everyone."

ARR was an invitee in oscar ceremony. I don't think ARR had any say
whom oscar organizing committee calls and whom the committee doesn't
call. I do think that when the committee even called the small kids of
the movie to perform in the show, they should have called Sukhi also,
but again, ARR can't have any role or say in sukhi being invited or
not invited. Ask oscar committee why they didn't invite sukhi.

> if any visa issue then why he was
> subsequently ignored by ARR in all stage performance(jaiho song) post

This is personal speculation on ARR's psychology. I repeat i don't
know whether it is true or not.

So, I guess that sukhi reacted badly on not getting invited to oscar
and he somehow held ARR responsible.

Now, if someone blames you for no mistake of yours, it does affect
your feelings and you do become uncomfortable with the person unduly
blaming you. Same way, I think ARR became temporarily uncomfortable
with ARR.

now that Sukhi probably has get over his temporary harsh feelings and
is trying to approach ARR, I hope ARR, polite that he is, will forgive
him and they will be friends working together again.

The TOI interview had very sensible and welcome words by sukhi towards
ARR, somehow that interview and sukhi got bashed here.

read that interview here:
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/music/Rahmans-become-overconfident/articleshow/6484596.cms#ixzz0z30y8pBs

See, sukhi even says "I really want to sit with him (ARR) and have a
lengthy chat, seedhe dil se!" What more we can want?

> 2. post oscar only ARR sings JAIHO without suki and with only tanvi sha
> and other lady performars he could have invited suki also /

ARR sang it where? In his tours? Again, I think ARR's tours were/ are
also organized by some marketing/ organizing agency that is
independent of ARR. So, it is them who decide whom to invite and whom
not to invite. AFter all, that agency has to pay for all the invited
persons who are performing in the show, even to ARR. So, ask that
agency(ies) why they didn't invite sukhi.

For that matter, there should be about 100+ male and female singers
who had sang ARR's various song in his albums. Did they all go with
ARR in his tours and sang their songs on stage? I don't think so. Some
might be there, some didn't go. Those who didn't go, their songs were
rendered by someone else. That's what happens in each and every stage
show. Then why single Sukhi only for not being there and his song
being rendered by others on stage. Sukhi is busy guy and he must have
high charges for appearing on stage. Tanvi Shah, vijay prakash are no
way as busy as sukhi nor as popular so they had time and had less
charges to go in the tour.

Again, like oscar is given to only MD and lyrics writer and not to the
singers (please correct me if I am wrong) Grammy must have there rules
and tradition. I am sure ARR can't have any say in whom to give grammy
and whom not to give. (if ARR has such a say, I wish ARR tells grammy
organizers to give himself (ARR) a grammy every year. ha ha ha)

Re: [arr] Sukhwinder problem?

2010-09-09 Thread V S Rawat
You are saying it again, even after being conveyed clearly that an ARR
fan should not use such words for anyone.

Sukhi getting angry, or Sonu getting angry, or Udit Narayan getting
angry - they still are contributors to ARR. They are in ARR's team.
ARR will invite them to sing further songs. anger and happiness and
various emotions keeps on coming between friends and family members.
We don't call our father mad or our son mad when they are occasionally
angry.

We should always remember that while we all mostly badmouth Himesh
Reshammiya here, ARR still invited him to sing a song in Blue. That is
ARR. That is his politeness. That's why ARR is respected.

You have no value for my prompting. I am sure ARR will be the first
person who will disapprove of anyone calling anyone mad. I am also
sure that ARR will be very sad that a forum running on his name is
being used to called artists mad.

Interesting observation. I was speaking to a friend the other day who said a
lot of ARR's songs these days were too "complex" for him. The simplicity of the
old songs possibly was one reason for their lasting popularity (songs that
immediately come to my mind are Mustafa Mustafa, Urvasi Urvasi, Chinna chinna
aasai etc). Even such a gargantuan hit like Mukkala Muqabla had a lot of
"openness" to it. In fact, coming to think of it, how many songs these days
(not just ARR but the music in general) can one really categorise as simple,
hummable songs?

Indmov,

I understand your feelings. I too am tired of all this negativity over the CWG
song. I urge members to please stop posting nonsense articles that do not
contribute any constructive value to this group, but only fuel angry sentiments.

Please stay here. I really value your posts and insights. You contribute so
much to this group. I for one know ARR and his music from my heartI don't
need to explain it. If there are any doubters out there, it's only because of
their issues, not ARR's.

I think Raj was just trying to clarify some issues related to Sukhwinder Singh
and not implying that ARR is selfish, at least that's how I interpreted his
post.

I really value your membership here and please don't leave on account of some
noise recently. I know what you're feeling, however.

Would love to hear some discussion about this. Is it constructive criticism to

"avalanche" of sound? I posted something about this a little while back about
how ARR"s songs of yesterday had more "space" and more "breathing room". Do
these factors help to make an ARR album more appealing in general?

Please don't get into an ARR yesterday vs. ARR today war. I just want to bring

I think I am now on the verge of unsubscribing to this group. There is only
that
much negativity my system can take. The CWG theme song has just opened
Pandora's box with mail after mail and article after article full of just
childish discussions such as the one below. I love AR's music and now beginning
to think that sharing the love for his music here may no longer be the fun
experience it used to be. I am probably better off just listening
and appreciating his music all by myself. If that's childish, so be it.

And Raj , yes ARR is a selfish stage hogging arrogant artist who only looks out
for himself and only himself.
ARR wasn't the first music director in Indian history (EVER) to credit all
the
musicians involved in a soundtrack in the form of a comprehensive credits list
at the back of a CD. Even a person who hums in a song does not get his/her due
credit by ARR. Instrumental artists are given a cold shoulder- no mention at
all. And sound engineers. Who are they? If not for AR, the world of Indian
music
would be so advanced and artists would have got their due credit and respect
without being ignored.

It looks to me that the majority opinion ( from all the e-mails and articles in
the Indian media that have come through after the CWG theme song), is that the
Indian music industry would have been a far better place if not for Rahman.
And
that in fact the commonwealth games was not a sporting event but a musical song
contest. I am not Indian and for the first time I feel a sense of pride in
that.

other lady performars he could have invited suki also /
3. why sucki didnt get Grammy while others like vijay prakash and Tanvisha was
part of Grammy , suki is contribution to JAIHO is
huge compared to Viajay prakas and Tanvi sha ?.. is there any intention on
this issue? why he was not part of Grammy he didnt get any call from grammy
.???

4. why ARR didnt mention suki name in the OSCAR speech while he was mentioning
all like MIA,blazee etc etc

5. why suki is not part of JAIHO world tour as currently going on.. where in
the song JAIHO would be perfomed at every concert
does ARR wants to highlight only himself in the song? show that he
can
be more popular as a pop singer in west??????
i belive ARR worked with suki in Ravan after this issue then what is
stopping ARR to bring suki on stage for singing JAIHin anystage

am getting confused with these questions in my mind ... ARRis very humble
and down to earth person and why he did allow this kind of issues happening
...this is not the question of integrity and this is the question of the
getting
recognanised at the stage like OSCAR ...this kind of oppertunity suki wont get
again am sure that is why he is crying a lot and making this kind of statements
especially when ARR failes to impress the people through CWG anthem

I really don't know where the "limited range" criticism comes from. It's just
ludicrous. Rahman to me is the most versatile musician everyes, ever. I
didn't say he was the best ever, but most versatile.

I agreethese crticisms are so outdated and in reality, dis-proven. To me,
this kind of article is just noise and not worth reacting to and not worth
posting here.

I am originally from Newark, Delaware. My father, born in Gujarat, India,

As a first generation American *desi*, I felt fortunate being exposed to so
many more diverse cultures, languages, foods, countries, music and people
than my average American friends.

One of those major life-changing things in my home was music. Listening to
1980s pop music on the radio, then hearing Hindustani classical at home, I
was exposed to two ends of a spectrum.

As I got older, one of those styles of music was developed more than the
other. Although I was in the school band and choir, I had also started
learning the tabla, Hindustani classical and light vocals. I taught myself
how to play the harmonium.

It wasn't long before my affinity to *desi* music would turn into pubic
performances and local music competitions. Years past and life moved on.
Eight years on, the music had left my life.

In the summer of 2007, I took my last leap of faith. For years I had tried
to audition for many musical shows and teams but failed. I was down to my
last bit of effort, when I saw an article in *India Abroad,* titled 'A R
Rahman's Talent Hunt.' Even then I didn't see how I could stand a chance, so
I did nothing. As the deadline to submit a recording came near, I had a
feeling inside that told me to just send it.

So I did, with very little expectations of hearing back. Within a couple of
weeks, I got a phone call saying that I made it to the next round and that I
needed to come to New York to audition live.

Keeping this a secret from everyone, I drove to New York where contestants
from all over the US and Canada [
Images ]
were present. One by one I heard these talented people sing, and I knew I
didn't stand a chance. It was finally time for my name to be called. As I
walked toward the room where I was going to audition, I held my harmonium in
one hand while a cameraman from the network recorded my every move. I walked
into the room, looked to my left, and there he was, A R Rahman.

Usually, I'm quite nervous to perform in front of anyone, but for some
reason, I felt very comfortable and reassured. AR was a very down-to-earth,
soft-spoken person. Someone I felt comfortable around immediately. After the
audition process was over, all the contestants were brought into a room
where the winner was to be announced. Rahman, feeling generous, decided to
select six people instead of one. As all the contestants circled around him
and anxiously awaited to hear his selection, I was the only one sitting in
the back of the room on a couch, playing a game of solitaire on my phone.
That is until the second name he called was mine.

I could feel the look of shock on my face. Then a smile I couldn't get rid
of, no matter how calm and collected I wanted to appear.

A few days later I was to perform in New York City at the Nassau Coliseum
for 16,000 people. The moment I walked into that stadium, I was amazed. I
got to meet with A R Rahman, Hariharan [
Images ],
Sukhwinder Singh [

],
Chitra, and many other musicians and entertainers I have been watching and
listening to for years. Watching all of the rehearsals, which Rahman
conducted, meeting everyone, and then finally performing, was a
life-changing experience. It was something I never could have anticipated. I
was on stage with an orchestra including some of the most talented musicians
in the world.

As the anxious crowd settled into their seats, I started to pray. I hoped I
wouldn't make a complete fool of myself and hoped I could impress Rahman and
the audience. The time came, my name was announced, and I was on autopilot
walking onto the stage. Rahman to my left on the keyboard, and in front of
me a sea of 16,000 people!

At that moment I made another prayer. That one day I would be on a stage
like this again, but the crowd would be there to see me, and to listen to my
songs. It was that very moment that changed a part of me. I felt something
like never before, and it was to be my destiny to reach my goal.

In 2008, once again another opportunity was presented to me. A dream of my
mother's, and a secret dream of mine, was to one day perform on the
television show, *Sa Re Ga Ma Pa*. I got wind that *Sa Re Ga Ma Pa* was
hosting a US challenge and auditions were to be held in six major cities
around the states.

Once again, I didn't want t

Ha Ha ha !! Nice one :P I Never said anyone else mad here except Sukwinder
:P I dont know the reason behind the statement u gave in this mail :P i
just can laugh :P

Anyway ...let's get to the main point..At the time of the Oscars Sukwinder
didnt left any stone unturned to show his anger on ARR ! He said "I will
perform on Oscars stage oneday" ( Just because he sung an song in an Steven
spielberg film ) ...and said so many "Mad" things on couple of interviews
!!

and now he is claiming that he dont at all crave this things !! And like all
other "Celeb" invited on this show he went on praising himself ( I watched
almost every episode ) by saying that even Rahman was shocked that he isnt
at all interested in Oscars !! But at the time of oscars he said ..ARR didnt
took him..and later we get to know that he had a visa proband now we
know he had an Show @ Kanpur ( Anyone attended that show from here ?..Anyone
from Kanpur ?? ) So , he possibly couldnt attend the Oscars ... Weird isnt
it ? :-) Let's get the fact right !!

If ARR intentionally didnt took sukwinder and he feel it that way why he
aint saying so ? If asked he can also show us some evidence or something !!
What is the need of saying two different things in two diff places ? He is
just so mad about missing the chance of performing at the oscars !! Yes, Mad
is the correct word here in MY view !!

:-)

Suma reads James Hadley Chase!! Ms. Shumway Waves a Wand is one of his best
books!
I agree with a lot of points she raises - Waka Waka is not good, CWG itself
is a big mess, Slumdog is lacklustre. But I think she missed the boat with
no classic Rahman for 2 years. Yes, Delhi 6 was a masterpiece, but VtV is an
excellent album, as is Raavan. I think Endhiran has blinded her to that and
she forgot about these 2. Or, maybe, she has never heard of VtV.

I second it. It's not worth a read. It's been the same since 1995! We need
some fresh accusations. If someone talks about how Amit Trivedi, Ram Sampath
or Salim-Suleiman are better than Rahman, then there is something
interesting to read! Saying Rahman isn't as good as yesteryears' composers
is so passe.

Is Rahmania Over?
By Suma Nagaraj – September 8th, 2010

Poor A R Rahman is at the receiving end again.

The CWG theme song, Jiyo Utho Badho Jeetho, (inspiration for the song title
falls somewhere between Swami Vivekananda's clarion call, Arise, Awake and Stop
Not Till the Goal is Reached and 4 Non Blondes' Bigger, Better, Faster, More, I
think) is facing a lot of flak from all quarters, I feel for all the wrong
reasons.

First, A R Rahman is a creative genius, but he's no Miss Shumway and can't
magically wave a wand across a sheet of paper and come up with a catchy tune
every time he's asked to (or paid upwards of Rs 5 crores to).

Secondly, odious comparisons to Waka Waka (which was insufferable, if you ask
me) are grossly unwarranted. All those screaming from the rooftops that there's
no catchphrase like `Waka Waka' in the CWG theme, there is. If a catchphrase is
all you wanted, how about Jiyo Utho? Or Badho Jeetho?

Thirdly, I feel the whole anti-Rahman movement is some kind of a ploy to take
attention away from the many ills that plague the Commonwealth Games. This song
is just that – a song, another of our attempts to ape what other mega sports
event organizers would do. Since Rahman enjoys global recognition and appeal
(thanks to one of the most lacklustre compositions in his oeuvre), he was
promptly signed on for better visibility in the global sports scenario. Now how
the Games will play out is anybody's guess.

If only a song could avert a debacle, we wouldn't be having this argument,
would we?

But signing him off as creatively bankrupt and horror of horrors, rumours of
him being asked to "recompose" the tune is an insult to a musical genius who's
remained humble in spite of wild success, fame and fortune. He's not had a
great score in the last 2 years (his last best was Dilli 6) and the one song
the world knows him by, to put it in the words of a random commenter on some
article on the Internet, sounds like a jingle he composed during his lunch
break.

Genius is genius because, by definition, it's not ordinary. Now if every tune
he composes is extraordinary, what does that make him?

I think he should be given the room to breathe and the time to clear out the
ordinary tunes in his head and bring out more of those melodies we love him for.

What do you think of this controversy? Vote on our poll below:

Does A R Rahman deserve all the criticism over the CWG theme?
No, leave him alone.

Yes, he was paid for it.

Undecided - which is the majority here?

Haven't listened to the song, not interested.

Can we move on already?

Why do we need a CWG anthem?

Accusations - Rahman's range is limited, Vande Mataram album by ARR was not
good, he has limited calibre, Rahman is worse singer in the country than most
blah blah blah...

He says "Rehman must realize his limitations and accordingly take up future
projects."

This guy does not even know its Rahman and not Rehman!!! Sick...

I dont know of any other composer in the world who has a range better than
ARRs.
He can compose almost all genres or music with equal brilliance.

Some people are really ignorant and dont let their ego die when it comes to
accepting AR Rahman's success!!!

I have always maintained that AR Rehman is a greatly overrated composer and
even
though he has won an Oscar for the Slumdog Millionaire score, his compositions
are more or less similar or have a very limited range. In any case, he is not
in
the same class as some of great maestros of yesteryears whose melodies continue
to rule even now. Rehman in his limited range has achieved excellence and has
thrived because there are not too many composers of his limited caliber who are
also around. It would have been interesting to have observed Rehman had he
lived
and competed with the likes of Naushad, Shankar Jaikishen, SD Burman, Hemant
Kumar, Roshan, Madan Mohan, OP Nayyar, Sajjad, Khayyam, Ravi, Salil Chaudhury,
C
Ramchandra, Anil Biswas, Hansraj Behal, SN Tripathi and even Lakshmikant
Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji and RD Burman.
It is no wonder that his theme song for the Commonwealth Games has not gone
down
too well with the people and he is being accused of giving a mediocre number
after charging Rs five crores for his troupe. CWG Chairman, Suresh Kalmadi
clarified that Rehman had not accepted any money for himself and the amount was
meant for the total performance carried out by the musical troupe accompanying
him. Even though Kalmadi has liked the song, most people I know have been
extremely critical of the whole composition. Their view is that the music is
not
catchy, it lacks Indian ness, it has poor lyrics and Rehman is perhaps a worse
singer than most in this country. Without being rude, I share the view that any
composition, which is meant for mass audiences and is going to be the theme
song
for an event like the Commonwealth Games must catch the imagination of all. One
cannot certainly say that the composer's freedom to compose anything gives him
a
license to create a sub standard tune, which is for mass consumption. If Rehman
and his troupe alone were to hear it, the justification of composer's freedom
would have been okay. But here it will be sung and played out before an
international audience of millions all around the world. If the song lacks the
spunk and fails to generate enthusiasm, it is a failing of the composer. He
should have played it before an objective audience before pushing it as the CWG
theme song.
I do acknowledge that he has given good scores in many movies in his limited
range but he has failed to be convincing when he has gone in for mass numbers.
Nearly a decade ago, he had done a new version of Vande Matram. But than one
could not help making comparisons with Hemant Kumar's evergreen Vande Matram
number for Anandmath, which was picturised on Geeta Bali and sung by Lata
Mangeshkar. Hemant Da's number scores in every sense of the word and till date
no version of the national song has come any where near it.
I do not know what the CWG organizers can do at this late stage but people are
already unfairly comparing Shakira's livelier Waka Waka at this year's Soccer
World Cup to Rehman's composition. It is for Rehman to figure out how best he
can make amends. Otherwise the song could have generated enthusiasm to lift up
the sagging spirits due to the pathetic preparations in the run up to the
Games.
What it has achieved is that it has spoilt the mood of music lovers further.
Rehman must realize his limitations and accordingly take up future projects.

Rahman earns such respect from his fans (and non-fans also) not only for his
music... but also for his behavior, nature, down to earth personality, and
not bad mouthing against anyone. That's why speaking good of Rahman becomes
intelligent, caring, creative etc etc.

Perhaps other musicians learn these non-professional etiquette to earn
respect like Rahman. Rahman single handedly lifted Sukhi's voice in entire
India, that should not be forgotten by Sukhi. Which Sukhi is telling is
noting but lying and that cant be tolerated (at least by me).

I think if Sukhi is not happy for not performing at the Oscar stage (which I
also wanted him to perform) he could have told that he was never invited by
Rahman and he got unhappy for the same instead of uttering such baseless
lies.

If someone is finding everyone mad, one possibility is that everybody
is not mad and this person should get himself checked up whether he
himself might be.

It is sickening to the soul to see that we are uttering such biased
statement undermining everybody. Anyone who speaks good of ARR
instantly become intelligent, caring, creative, considerate and what
not, and anyone uttering any word that doesn't go well with ARR's
repute in our mind, that person instantly become loser, mad,
opportunist, politician, envious, publicity monger and what not.

This list has seen many ups and lows in 11 years, but this phase seems
to be the lowest ever when we fans are acting like narcissus not able
to see and appreciate anyone's view point. I hope better sense will
prevail soon.

I condemn anyone calling anyone mad. If we can't respect one artist
and one human, it is quite likely that we don't at all know what
respect is, and our claims of respecting someone else have to be fake.

[arr] Re: ARR songs for meditation/stress relief

2010-09-09 Thread DineshVaidya
Have been using Rahman therapy for stress relief on myself and others for last
15 years and find that ANY Rahman song can be used to de-stress anybody.

And if you are part of a group / band where you can participate in exploring
the Rahman sound, then you are "blessed" !

I would nevertheless recommend entire albums such as CONNECTIONS, Water,
Swades, Lagaan, Kannathil Mudhalmittal, Parthale Parvasam, SDM, Bombay, VTV,
D6. I can go on and on.

Once you are "connected" with ARR's music, you are in a blissful world
altogether...

[arr] ‘Be nice to A R Rahman’

2010-09-09 Thread Siddiq Rahman
‘Be nice to A R Rahman’

Negativity surrounds music director A R Rahman’s Commonwealth Games theme
song;
people have openly expressed their dislike and said the Oscar winner couldn’t
live up to their expectations. But, for composer Vishal Dadlani, a part of
Bollywood’s music fraternity, people should understand and appreciate what
Rahman has done for music and India.

Vishal has reacted vehemently to all the bad comments about the CWG theme and
writes on Twitter, “The only infallible one is god, who sends music to us all.
Everyone else is human, including Rahman. We’re all allowed off days. Be nice.
All you doubters, and haters, please understand that Rahman has done more for
music and India’s international image than almost anyone else.”

Rahman will appear on the show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar that has Vishal
as one of the judges. No doubt, Vishal is on cloud nine as he is going to meet
the iconic music director for the first time. The episode will be aired soon.

Earlier, song writer Mehboob too defended Rahman and claims that people are
forgetting that the number is not for a film but is a theme song for CWG.

gift very soon. all I ask in exchange is the respect it deserves. own

listen as it should be heard. in all its splendour with all its sound, and all

i'm curious. do people realise that mp3 is a weaker, watered down sound?
honest... does everyone know its like a low-res video versus HD?

@bezarre yes, nine tracks including a remix and a reprise. its a pretty loaded

rhythm backed by mild acoustics, with very less bass notes; and the quick

Media allegations are certainly not worrying me at all..

I know, ARR will answer it with JHS music... As great people do, without
answering by words but by deeds

My best luck to ARR for JHS super success... by far I feel m having best of
Rahman years.. This year Rahman has given us all unique, unconventional
albums which only we fans can understand.. rest just follow the trend...

[arr] Revisited a true and almost hidden ARR beauty......

2010-09-08 Thread AJ
The song: Tum Ho Meri Nicahon Main
Singers: Hariharan and Sujatha
The Album: Kabhi Na Kabhi
Year: 1997

This is one of the most beautiful and unique ARR songs ever. I picture a
beautiful figure skater when I hear this song...or a warm sunny day and gentle
breeze...or a gently flowing water stream.or children laughing and playing
innocently in a green field I just can't describe the feeling I get when
listening to that song. The song itself is so classy, sweet, scintillating,
innocent, pure, lilting, captivating, soothingneed I go on? There is just
no other song like it.

The symphonic soundscape that ARR has used is out of this world to such a
bouncy waltz rhythm enraptured by Hariharan's and Sujatha's semi soft, nuanced
semi classical singing. The interludes are long and elaborated and oozing with
sparkle, sweetness, and dignity. I just love the flute in this song.

ARR's sound template even back then was so nuanced and varied and this song
doesn't sound dated one bit.

The other song I like very much in this album is Tu Hi Tu by Shreekumar and
Chitra. Another beauty!

Atleast in tamil music, ARR was probably ( not sure ) the first MD to add
something called theme music in cassettes. Before AR, the term 'theme music'

[arr] Re: cry cry full song!!!! :D

2010-09-08 Thread AJ
I am loooving this song like anything! It is sweet, soothing, playful,
jazzy, and beautifully dressed up in a symphonic gown with flutes, bass guitar,
acoustic guitar, bongos, ghungrus, and saxoophone. Incredible instant appeal,
esp. for those who like some jazzy flavors and I do love the lyrics too. The
interludes are extremely melodious and impactful and the ending just melts in
your ears! Both Shreya and Rashid did an excellent job!

The arrangements are crisp and the sound production seems top notch with no
clutter. Yes, this song has breathing room, like the ARR of yore!

I can't wait for the rest of the CD! Let it release sooon! I have a
feeling this album is going to be one of ARR's biggest commercial hits in
recent times.

Please buy the CD guys once it releases! Support ARR!

This is mistaken about the 2 additional songs. Abbas said that with the 2
songs added, it will be 9, originally it was 7. So, what you have in the first
nine there is the total on the CD. I don't think we'll have eleven tracks.
The title track, "Call Me Di", is what I believe what ARR added later plus
another one.

[arr] Rahman composes song in 40 hours

2010-09-08 Thread SADIQ
AR Rahman might have taken six months to compose the theme song for the
Commonwealth Games but he delivered a new composition for Madhu Mantena's,
Jhootha Hi Sahi in a day-and-a-half. The maestro saw the film at his studio in
Chennai last Friday and told director Abbas Tyrewalla that a title track would
enhance the overall impact of the movie.
Tyrewala was initially apprehensive as the John Abraham-starrer is scheduled to
open on October 15. But Rahman assured him that he'd deliver the song in a
couple of days.

Mantena confirms the news: "We had recorded eight songs but no title track.
Rahman insisted we had to have one and reasoned that it could play in the
background just before the climax, so we didn't need to picturise it. To save
time, Abbas suggested he give us only one `antara' (stanza) but Rahman came up
with a complete song."

[arr] RAHMAN RULZ DOODZ!

2010-09-08 Thread Triply
BREAKING NEWS!!

A new deadly virus seems to have afflicted the Indian populace. The virus,
dubbed "Rahman Rulz Doodz", seem to affect certain Rahman fans. The
affliction seems to cause panic attacks, high blood pressure, ulcers, short
temper and, in extreme cases, depression.

Symptoms: Are you afflicted by Rahman Rulz Doodz? Here is a quick
questionnaire that helps you decide:

1. Do you get worked up when a new Rahman album is launched, but does not
release on the same day?
2. Do you find journalists yellow because they have something negative to
say about Rahman?
3. Is Ram Gopal Verma a useless guy because he thinks Rahman ruined film
music?
4. Is Anu Malik a swell dude because he supported Rahman's CWG theme?
5. Is the CWG is one big mess where no one there can be any good because
they were disappointed with Rahman's theme?
6. Is every new channel a house of lies because they run Rahman's CWG to the
ground?
7. Is IBNLive a wretched spawn of satan because they have derogatory things
to say about Rahman?
8. Do you feel that Rahman is giving his absolute best with masterpieces
like Komaram Puli, Endhiran and the CWG theme?
9. Is every one's opinion invalid, if they differ from yours, particularly
with reference to Rahman?
10. Do you think Rahman is a god?

If you answered yes to:-
A) less than 3 questions - you are relatively sane.
B) more than 2 questions but less than 5 questions - you are about to be
afflicted. Take care. Breathe deeply and calm yourself. You may be an
anorak.
C) more than 4 questions but less than 10 - Dude, you are totally afflicted.
Take a chill pill. Relax. Rahman Rulz Doode, but You Drools and that's
Roode.
D) all 10 questions - get a life. Seriously.

How to avoid the affliction:

1. Don't take everything you read about Rahman to heart. Sometimes, people
like saying nasty things, even if it is unwarranted.
2. Understand that not everything Rahman makes is a masterpiece. Not
everything Rahman composes will be liked by everyone. People can have strong
reactions to things they don't like, just like you can.
3. Understand that Rahman is not a god. He is only human. He can make
mistakes too.
4. Rahman is the best Indian music composer. It is a fact for everyone to
see. You needn't worry about someone not knowing that fact and make it your
personal quest to enlighten the poor deluded fool.

What to do you do to cure yourself of the affliction?

The cure is the other side of the affliction. Rahman has made some of the
greatest music on earth. Listen to it. Disregard external factors. Just
enjoy your private world, drowning in his music. Discuss the positive
aspects of his compositions. Don't get into a whole "my gun is bigger than
yours" argument with someone who strongly resents some composition. Just
agree to disagree and move on.

This group is one of my favourite hangouts and I have been here for quite
sometime. I love reading the different view points and discussions and I
love gauging the excitement when a new album is about to release. What I
don't like is the venom that is posted here. Whether it is against another
member, or some news channel, a web site, a composer, or anyone else.

Gopal created this for a community of Rahmaniacs. Let's not lose the "Rah"
and become plain maniacs.

Apologies if I offended anyone.

Hona hai jo ho, sad hote kaayko hum

Itna darte hain kaayko

Pal pal marte kaayko

Why why, aisa why

another example of media trying to make a big thing out of nothing.

delays has always been there. these people expect rahman to somehow have
the powers of superman, batman and spider man all rolled into one.

just because he has a "Man" in his name, does not mean he is a superhero.

good thing that abbas has some sensibility.

Waiting for Rahman: Jhootha Hi Sahi director stranded in Chennai? [image:

By Subhash K. Jha, September 8, 2010 - 11:32 IST

[image: A R Rahman]Abbas Tyrewala was in Chennai on Sunday and Monday trying
to get the last bit of his much-delayed music in *Jhootha Hi
Sahi*
in
place. The film is just weeks away from release date (Oct 15). And the
master-CD is still not in the harassed director's hands.

The formal music release by *Saregama* has been postponed until the music is
ready. But before that, a formal announcement of the music was to be made on
music reality-show which was recorded on Tuesday.

The 'master' was to be ready latest by Monday evening, so that the director
Abbas Tyrewala and composer A R Rahman could rush back from Chennai in time
to record the show on Tuesday. At the time of writing the music was still
not completed.

Trying to sound brave and not pressing the panic button, Tyrewala on Sunday
said from Chennai, "I've been shuttling between Chennai and Mumbai. Staying
awake since Rahman works at nights, I've forgotten what jetlag is. I know
it's cutting it close. We are almost donefinally! We just need to add a
string section in the soundtrack. I am hopeful tomorrow it will be done and
we'll make it for the show."

Abbas jumps to the much-beleaguered Rahman's defence. "When you want the
pinnacle of excellence, in the quality of songs in your film that only
Rahman can achieve, then you've to be prepared to be patient. Yes, I have
had to wait. But it's been worth it. Rahman has composed 7 songs and 2
re-mixes. That's a total of 9 tracks."

As for the delay, Abbas defends, "What can Rahman do if suddenly three films
are all up for release at the same time, my*Jhootha Hi Sahi*, Danny Boyle's
*127 Hours* and Shankar's *Robot* are all being readied for release at the
same time. Have a heart. *Bachche ki jaan logey, kya?*"

Nice write-up. I totally understand your feelings. I went through the same.
especially after reading that IBNLive article I felt so sick and grieved, and
decided to avoid reading anything about it on web or anywhere. And yes that
tweet from that idiot on Vishal's profile hurt me so much and EXACTLY the same
thought that how ungrateful we humans are came to my mind many a times. One
song and all you have done for past 18 years is forgotten. this is what is
shameful. I don't know whoever that person is but I HATE people like that so
much. especially the people who do not bother to praise people on their
achievements but are so willing to bring them down when they are having a

[arr] CWG Theme arguments > Thank you Media !

2010-09-08 Thread DineshVaidya
After listening / reading to all comments on the CWG theme and the "so called"
bashing by ignorant sections of Media and our politicians, somehow I am
tempted to forgive them because all they are comparing ARR's CWG them music is
to ARR's earlier (musical) track record.

I would have been unhappy if the media would have compared the theme to some
other composer or artist. All they are doing is compare this theme with
Rahman's previous presentations.

So I must thank the media for acknowledging that ARR's music is uncomparable,
and if at all comparable, it can be compared with only ARR's music alone !

I think if it was not the Oscars and Grammys , People in india would have

I think he should create another song, or another version and shut all these
idiots up. The truth is that song is lacking, given that it is meant for a
sports event. if it was not, the response would not have been so negative.
don't know what went wrong in the case of this song but I am sure ARR can come
up with a chartbuster song which would be liked by everyone, something like Jai
Ho. I don't agree that there is no guarantee that that song would be liked.
when it is ARR there is always a guarantee.
