It was Asha Bhosle's version and not Lataji's. They still play it.

   They used to play Lata Mangeshkar Version one year back in cauvery and 
vaibhav if am not wrong!!!
i havent been to those theatres from past two years now!!
but i remember  clearly,  watching movies like yuva, saathiya, RDB and all 
there..
i always used to go abit early to the theatre coz never wanted to miss the 
National Anthem there wid superb voilins and voilas and keyboards arrangement 
in BIG SPEAKERS!!!
