2008-11-17 Thread $ Pavan Kumar $
It was on this day, a year ago...Rahman performed in New delhi in front of huge
crowd...(must be around 5). This day holds a special place in heart and
would be for rest of my life.

Some amazing performances, great songs, stunningly decroated stage and what
not...everything was so perfect..

Some memorable things from the concert for me...

1. Seeing my hero from such close distance for first time..The feeling was
something special...jaise..janam janam ka rishta hai hamare beech mein :) :)

2. Hearing Azeemon Shan(JA) for first time...standing close to those gaint
10-15 foot speakers...and the way rahman added roja and thiruda thiruda to
it...masterstroke...

3.Hearing Rahman sing Tere Bina(Guru) during reharsals..He was on stage in
front of us..with very less music..he sang it..and it literally made me
cry...He is such a magician.

4. Blaaze's special gift for us...

5.Vijay & Gops representing our group and releasing PFMB colouring books..

6.Chitra's stunning performance..Since north indian's are not much aware of
her..people were making fun of her..but once she started with Jaage hain...it
left everyone stunned and speechless

7. Now..the best part...spending time with you
all...Vijay,Gops,Sirish,Shiva,Ravi,Varun & Nazeef...you were all simply
awesome..I am lost of words.but would like to Thank you guys.

did see a few DVDs (obviously pirated!) of the concert amongst those
being hawked on the platforms of Bangalore!!

Somehow reach the backstage of an ARR concert and I'm more than sure
that the above question will be answered! The sweetest I've met are
a part of the ARR family. This

should be a good starter, bear with me for being detailed-it's on
the request of a few members.

 Friday, 16th November 2007-Rehearsal

Met the first sweet person of the trip in the airport-Varun Nair of
our group. Now that's what is called a coincidence, meeting a group
member for the first time, that too in an airport going for the same
concert in the same flight. After a series of lies and saving up
money-I finally reached Delhi. And the first thing we see when we
landed was this huge AR Rahman Live In Delhi hoarding!! It was
convincing that the event was going to be big!! Thanks Varun for the
wonderful hospitality, can't be greatful enough for your sweetness.

The afternoon I met the group co-ordinator of the group Pawan
(Pawancumarr). Needless to say another sweetheart-Thank you Pawan
for all that you did, on behalf of the group let me thank you for
receiving us well in Delhi and entertaining us ( Vijay, smile
please!!). Varun and Pawan, to the two of them this was the first
concert and the excitement was obvious, so was mine-but having
worked in the Bangalore concert-I knew that much more than the
actual concert the rehearsal day is more pleasant for the fans.

It seemed like we were entering some fantasy land then-or should I
say, It was a fantasy-to be walking and talking with the people who
together with ARR give us –what we get to hear and to be under this
 wonderful community.

Forgive me again for writing this on a very personal viewpoint, but
I hope you guys understand what it is to be with such people. The
first one in the list was Sayanora Philip.

Thankfully acquainted with her-the entry into the musical camp was
even easier. We spoke for almost an hour-snapped photos, one of the
best ever! For those who are not familiar with this name-Sayanora is
the voice behind Sivaji's Athiradee and a few other popular non ARR
numbers in both Malayalam and Tamil. We got introduced to Tanvi Shah-
the stunning voice that sang Fanaaa fron Yuva/Ayutha Ezhutu
complimentary to ARR's high pitched voice and numbers like Jillunu
oru Kadhal to name a few.

A few more clicks. A few more smiles and poses. Tons of
satisfaction. But most importantly, it's the feeling that Humbles
you down-that people who share the stage with ARR, are here with us
for an hour or more-talking about our group, Rahman, the malls and
the dust in Delhi!! I'm sure Varun and Pawan agree-it was almost
like we knew Tanvi and Sayanora for ages.

Artists entered one after another-Aslam, Hariharan, Blaaze, Murtaza
and Qadir, Neeti, Kailash Kher and the rest made entry one by one.
Most of them we were able to catch up with, talk to and take snaps
with-while the others were just too busy rehearsing.

Blaaze recognized me-all I had to say was Yahoo! And Bangalore and
almost like lightning he comes up with " Aah Dude-Yo! I remember!
How can I forgot you guys!??"

He spoke to for us a long time again-and more interesting trivia on
ARR-how he works and how he makes things work. He spoke about how he
unexpectedly made his debut with B to the A to the B….and no looking
back after that-rightfully as put by some newspaper "BLAAZE-Blaazing
with Rahman!!" Guys don't shoot me for this one-Blaaze showed us and
spoke to us about some upcoming surprises by ARR!! All I can say is
I can't wait! And as promised to Blaaze, we won't talk about it. And
let it all come as a surprise-worth the wait! By this time we were
all lost in a new world-dashing shoulders with singers and bumping
into media people who would just have one question " Has ARR
 Arrived?"

Almost half past seven-A Black 5 series BMW, sleek and long makes an
entry. And quietly putting his left foot down was the man whose
music features in TIME's all time top ten, whose music lists as
multiple entries in the oscar and the same man who brought us all
together- AR Rahman. The first thought was-I can die right now and
I'll have no regrets, the happiness you get when one sees this man
 is multi-himalayan in heights!

But No! Wait for the rehearsals. The stage was not completely ready-
the production team was working-hammers and tools. The musicians
were busy tuning their instruments and Mr. KJ Singh and H Sridhar
were busy checking for minute specifications, whilst ARR dressed in
a black Formal Blazer supervised the whole stage. It looked chaotic-
everyone one stage running about-the mics kept on and you can hear

Hey Nazzef...Excellet right up dude..thanks a lot for everything that you did.

naztitude <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Who says that this world is out
of sweet people?!

It looked chaotic-
everyone one stage running about-the mics kept on and you can hear
commands in Hindi English and Tamil. There is a sudden silence and
there was a familiar sound-it sounded like JA-or was it running in
your mind-again it played and yes it was-Marhaba!!

 Hi,
I was at the concert and we had a Blast
The songs that were skiped include two songs, we were really looking forward to
listening.
1) Yeh jo des hai tera
2) chale chalo
We waited for songs from Taal and Lagaan..
The audience was roaring, but, at the back.
The front guys were too sofisticated to dance and rock with the flow
U should've come to the second section of the audience (the 1500 walas) we were
shouting at the top of our voices, calling all those who came on the stage and
also we were singing all the songs.

A.R. Rahman rocks Delhi

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 02:04 PM IST

He came, he sang, he conquered. Music maestro A.R. Rahman spun a web of
magic over his audience as he sang some of his all-time popular
compositions, including 'Khalbali' and 'Pathshala', at his first concert in
the capital.

Although the open-air venue at Rajouri Garden in west Delhi was not packed
Saturday, thanks to the steep ticket prices (Rs.500-Rs.5,000 per ticket),
for the ones who were present it was an evening to remember.

Rahman, dressed in a white sherwani, dominated the grand stage, which had
LCD screens flanking both wings, scores of steps leading up to a tiny
balcony on one side and was lit up by multi coloured lights.

'I hope you enjoy the concert,' Rahman said as he started rolling out one
song after the other leaving the audience spellbound and screaming for more.

>From classics such as 'Roja' of the movie 'Roja' and 'Kehna hi kya' from
'Bombay' to more recent hits like 'Khalbali' from the movie 'Rang de
Basanti' and 'Barso re Megha' from 'Guru', and hit numbers of the
blockbuster 'Sivaji' to a musical score from the yet-to-be-released 'Jodha
Akbar', the audience was treated to a delicious musical fare.

Accompanying Rahman were other singers like the pony-tailed Hariharan,
Chitra, Madhushree, Sadhna Sargam and Delhi's own boy Kailash Kher, who have
rendered their voices to his compositions in the movies.

Ace drummer Sivamani enthralled the audience with his marathon-drumming
spell.

With the sets changing with each song and scores of dancers performing
alongside the crooning maestros, more glitter was added to the show.

Mid way through the performance, Rahman changed into a dull purple kurta and
sat on the piano to perform his English number 'Pray for me brother', a
melodious song that asks people to fight poverty.

'I hope you will support me in my fight against poverty,' Rahman said.

He also launched a set of colouring books in the occasion the proceeds of
which will go to his foundation that works for humanitarian causes.

As Hariharan sang 'Bharat humko jaan se pyara hai', the crowd stood and
cheered, passing the verdict that the three-hour musical evening was a hit.

The Delhi concert was my fifth ARR concert and was easily the best
I have seen considering most aspects - promotion, production values,
performances, acoustics (barring some very minor infractions) stage design,
crowd response. It was a thundering success by all accounts. Like someone said
ARR invaded Himesh Reshamiyya territory and emerged a Shahenshah. Kudos to the
Delhi crowd for a packed venue in the range of 35-4 people.

The highlight of the show was of course the sneak preview of Azeem O Shaan
Shahenshah from Jodhaa Akbar. The act turned out to be as fantastic as the
song. The song began with the blowing of Indian-style horns and trumpets . Then
Sivamani moved centre stage beating his drum. Lined up on both sides of the
stage on the ground were 40 drummers clad in royal-white and turbans. Slowly,
they ascended the stage, 20 on each side, beating the drums. Sivamani moved to
the front of the stage and received the drummers in line and formed an arc on
the stage with ARR in centre singing the song and joined in by the chorus
chanting 'Marhaba'. The performance gave me gooseflesh.

While the ARR's regular singer line-up including Hariharan, Chitra, Sadhana
Sargam, Madhushree, Kailash, Chinmayee and Naresh were as good as ever,
particular mention needs to made of the young brigade of female singers
comprising Neeti Mohan, Tanvi and Soumya Rao. Neeti and Tanvi carried off
Chandralekha brilliantly on stage.

The following is the list of songs -

1. Jaage Hain Der Tak - Chitra, ARR

the film "Guru", Rehman, in his maiden public concert in the capital,
managed to keep the audience captive under the magical spell of his voice.

The musician was performing for the Fever 104 concert in which playback
singers Kailash Kher, Hari Haran, Madhushree, Chitra, Sivamani and others
took part.

The musical extravaganza which started an hour late than scheduled, had an
orchestra of 50 instrumentalists and 22 singers whose energy had the crowd
roaring for more.

Accompanying the music maestro, percussionist Sivamani and flutist Navin
were no less in mesmerizing the crowd.

Rehman asked the crowd to join him in his fight against poverty and he
rendered for the crowd on his piano the soul touching number from his album
"Pray for me brother".

Apart from the usual favourite hit numbers ranging from hindi flicks like
"Rang De Basanti", and "Roza", his fans got a special treat when he gave
them a slice of music from the forthcoming Ashutosh Gowarkiker's film
"Jodhaa Akbar".
