AJ,

Just read your review. I knew something was not right when I came back here,
and
I just found out what it was after reading your latest post (on the favorite
playlist count)...I missed your Endhiran review! Well, it did take me some time
to track your review but it was worth it.

Like Roshan, I too was curious on the placement of 1100110 in the title, but
you
explained it well and yeah, I agree with your choices.

And your review- as usual, was a masterpiece! Neatly and aptly chosen words.
You've not only described the exact feelings one acquires from listening to the
songs but you've also detailed out the usage of the musical instruments and the
ragas with such preciseness. So much so that even one with no/limited knowledge
of the same (like me)would be tempted to listen the songs again.

What you described of Puthiya Manitha was exactly what ran into my mind the
minute i listened to the number. There was something special about this song
which I couldn't quite put a name to it...that is, until you spelt it out
yourself. Spirituality! That was an apt word for the number. Who would have
thought a techno song to have divine feel to it? But it did, didn't it? I felt
it too.

Great job with the review. I totally agree with most of your points esp on the
three numbers (Irumbile, Chitti dance and Boom Boom) although Irumbile seems to
fare much better in my choice of preferences as compared to the other two. But
overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your reviews. Keep it up!

think of how many songs there are in Enthiran. Now, you should be able to

comments you have made on your review. However, we need to keep in mind that
the movie is not set in the future as a result A.R.Rahman might have opted for
this "clichéd, stereotyped robotic sound" in "Chitti Dance Showcase" in order
to keep it realistic?

Hey chord..
Even, I had the same opinion... The robotic sounds date pretty much back to
the 80's. But if u remember Ilayaraja's title song from the Kamal Haasan
starrer Vikram, which was completely arranged and programmed by ARR, u can't
certainly deny that ARR had such ideas during those times too.

The symphonic strings in Arima Arima, are indeed very addictive, but ARR
unusually, does not impress us with the progressions; which fails to be
purely orchestral. Irumbile Oru idhayam, too being conceptually old, our
expectations for a futuristic album become shattered. Despite all thse, the
sonic experimentation and periodical transitions within tracks places
Endhiran way ahead of any other Tamil soundtrack released in the past 5
years.

I too felt the robo sounds a lil old school. but then I navigate my ipod to
listen "Rock that body" by black eyed peas, the most current in this genre, and
teh little old Imogen Heap-"Hide and seek"..I dont see a lotaa difference.
ofcourse we cant expect an "owl city" kinda music which may not support the
character of a Robot!!Rahman might have done justfication based on the
character but the movie has to support it.

my favoroties:
Pudhiya manidha
Kadhal annukal
Irumbile oru idhayam
Kilimanjaro
Arima
Chtti dance

Im havin a hard time to get on groove with "Boom Boom Robo". the rap part is
very low, the 1960s tune(siki mukki, automatic kara) of the song kinda dragging
in bwteeen a fast pacy robo song..there are some good parts of it ofcourse!!

2010-08-01 Thread AJ
I do agree with you that the robo sounds are outdated and cheesy, but please
try to not get hung up on the negatives and let those negatives block your
overall listening experience and appreciation for what is brilliant in this
album. I too got turned off by the outdated robo 80s sounds at first, but as I
keep listening, I am finding more and more things about the album I like, esp.
in 4 songs, and even the other 3 has some bright moments. I think Rahman has
worked hard on this album and do not assume that he's lacking time. I think he
puts his all into every project. I think it's very difficult to compose for a
movie like this...keeping both Shankar and Rajinikant in mind, plus the robo
factor! Apart from the robo sounds, I don't think anyone else could have
composed better music for a film of this type.

Again, there are things in this album I like and things that I don't like. I
am not letting the things I don't like ruin my enjoyment of things that I do
like, and for me, the things that I like are outweighing the things I don't
like.

these sources just want to use rajini's name to gain revenue/publicity. they
are devoid of any actual news. almost every source is like that when it comes
to rajini. the date of release is July and has come from horse's mouth.
this bogus news needs to be trashed.

> based on the music. The story boards for the sequences are being
> readied at a frantic pace by the team of Shankar.
> Apart from its music Endhiran is also is special for
> its choreography by Prabhu Deva, lyrics by Vairamuthu, art direction by
> Sabu Cyril and cinematography by Ratnavelu. Another specialty will be
> the exclusive sound effects crafted by the Oscar winner Resul Pookutty.
> Pookutty creates the unique metallic sound effects for the Robot

> release may be pushed little further than previously expected. Our
