I have some clips of this concert. I can share these only if moderators allow
me to do so.

Interview of A. R. Rahman was quite good. He was in a witty mood. He was
presented with a gold disc for a 100,000 copies sold of SDM. He talked about KM
Music conservatory, synergy between indian music and western music.. all in
all, it was a memorable event.

2010-04-09 Thread DineshVaidya
It is indeed a huge loss for RAHMANIACs around the world that there is no
chance of them hearing / seeing the LPO concert ever.

Same goes for the Concerts in India and abroad. Except the Dubai concert, LA
concert and I think Delhi concert too, we don't seem to have any chance of
seeing other concerts again. I know that the organisers have recorded these
with 6-8 cameras ( atleast in Pune I counted them ) and how I would love to
have an official release of these ???

I remember a posting earlier in which Gopal presented the stark reality of
lop-sided economics of CD releases so I doubt if these and similar recordings
will ever come to us through official release.

I could see Australia concert on Youtube but I can't copy that for seeing
without web-connection, what a pity !

If these and such concerts are released on WEB, will that be possible because I
would love to pay and download. But again how many will really pay and download
and how many will exchange the files amongst themselves ? So we seem to be back
to square one..

Can ARR or KM Music be influential in doing something about it ?

If it is not economically viable for anybody to release, then I guess I have to
live without these recordings..

Somehow Yeh Dil Maange More !

[arr] Re: The London Philharmonic Orchestra plays the music of A.R.Rahman

2010-04-09 Thread sureshmechnit
Dear Rahmaniacs,

As we don't get to listen to such concerts often in India, our grouse about no
accessibility of DVDs or Audio recordings of Rahman's orchestral concerts are
justifiable to an extent. But there are very many practical reasons why
orchestras sign up for such ventures with strict conditions.

In Europe there is already a huge cry about the lack of interest for classical
music among youngsters. They are trying hard in various ways to kindle
interests in Classical music and such Orchestra concerts. When I went to watch
a performance of Netherlands Symphony Orchestra in Amsterdam Concert Hall, I
had to pay only 10 Euros for a 40 Euro ticket because of my age. I could
roughly estimate that the average age of people to be around 50.

Moreover, if you put a DVD of concert and sell it, then nobody will come to
watch a live performance. If they want to watch it again, they can easily play
the DVD again. More number of live performances means more work for musicians
and conductors for such orchestras and more money for concert halls which are
there in huge number all over Europe.

Not just Rahman's, one cannot find DVD's of concerts of any Hollywood film
composer. The most popular film music score of the last decade was that of Lord
of the Rings trilogy. The `Lord of the Rings Symphony' is a compiled,
comprehensive three movement symphony with suites of all major themes from the
trilogy. It is one concert that I have been wishing to watch live at least once
in my lifetime. The only video recording of the concert is also not the
complete one. It is just a documentary. This symphony is now being repeatedly
performed by different Symphony Orchestras from different parts of the world.
If there was a DVD released, definitely it wouldn't have played as many times
as it had now.

Neither do any of the John Williams concerts which happen almost throughout the
year have been recorded and released in any DVD form.

So let us understand the ground realities and accept the bitter fact. I am sure
a day would come when our own KM Symphony Orchestra would perform A.R.Rahman's
film scores in Chennai for us.

Let us wait for that day.

Smile,
Sureshkumar.

The concert has been filmed for archival purposes. Strict union and
contractual requirements of the LPO do not permit anyone to release the
material for public consumption, either on a commercial basis or otherwise.
