attachment filename when using mid-tier

2007-04-06 Thread Vinson
Hi,

My system is remedy v7.01. I'm using a display-only form to push an
attachment to backend data form. I build a filter for this backend
form for 'subit' and 'modify' to notify my user that file is updated.

But I found the filename is like '12345;78901;filename' when I set the
attachment to a character field. But with Windows user client, it will
be different and like '12345;78901;pathname\filename'.

Did you also have the same problem and how to address it?

Well, until you find out what's doing it (perhaps a DB backup/restore
process?) you could do an export of those forms and their data each night.
Make them into a deployable application to make that process easier.

Re: Using email address for login name

2007-04-06 Thread Baxter, Andrew
The UPN is the UserPrincipalName and has no real relation to the email
address. While it may look like an email address, it is not. By using
the UPN for the login, you will automatically be able to resolve the
user to their password for authentication based on the Global Catalog.
The reason for the federation is to enable this extra resolution. It
won't matter in which domain the user exists provided there are
appropriate trust relationships that will allow the GC to resolve and
authenticate them since your environment is all windows based.

Thanks,

Andrew Baxter

We do have a single forest and bought the federations product so we fit
in there. When you say we should be able to use the UPN, that would the
UPN for the IdM domain right (we have a domain solely for IdM resources,
i.e. ABC.mil)? This would technically work but really doesn't provide
much value since email address formatted login names will not be valid
email address (there isn't going to be an email server for ABC.mil). I
was hoping to use the email address provided by their employer (@af.mil,
@dhs.gov, @employer.com, etc). Am I missing something that would allow
this in AD?

If you want, Remedy can set the Login Name field from what is typed in
the First, MI and Last Name fields on the People Record, producing a
"Windows" type login name.

Use 6 plus 1 plus 1 - six characters from the last name plus first
initial of the first name plus first initial of middle name. Example:
The login name for Brian J. Maxfield would be maxfiebj
Or
Use 7 plus 1 - seven characters from the last name plus first initial of
the first name. Example: The login name for Brian Elsworth would be
elswortb

Your biggest challenge will be updating the old data to reorginize the contents
of the Submitter field, Last Modified By field, Assigned To field and other
custom fields that might contain Login names.. Misi has a utility to mass
modify these, but I'm not sure if it would be useful for 7.x.

Apart from that I personally feel its a good idea to use the email address as a
login name. About the diary field limitation, I wish Remedy at some point uses
the Full name from the user form as a user stamp rather than the login name...

Re: Authentication to Consume WS

2007-04-06 Thread LAU, DARREN (ATTASI)
If you are consuming an outside WS you should have an Input and Output
mapping on your set fields/web service action. On the input mapping
there should be elements for login and password (if done correctly by
the WSDL author) that you can map to your own form that carries these
values.

Adding pictures to outgoing email templates

2007-04-06 Thread Dwayne Martin
Hi Everyone,

I am trying to add a picture to an outgoing email template.
The directions say to add it as an attachment to an associated
AR System Email Attachments form, but instead of appearing in
the email body, the picture comes as an attachment to the email.

To me the directions for having an attachment display in the
email itself look the same as those for sending them as an
attachment, but I am obviously missing something.

We are at ARS 6.3 (HPUX 11 server). I am following directions
(or at least trying to) on p 129 of the v 6.3 (and v 7.0)
Email Engine Guide.

Anybody know what I am doing wrong?

RESOLVED Re: Load Balancing Issues

2007-04-06 Thread Frank Caruso

The load balancer was set to timeout in 60 minutes, that was confirmed.
However, the switch the ARS servers were coming through was set to timeout
in 5 minutes (tcp age of 5 minutes).

Thanks to all who responsded.

agree with Fred that the sticky timeout setting is a prime suspect. You
might also do a traceroute, just to make sure the routing path between your
users and the load balancer (and between the load balancer and the AR System
servers) is what you expect. Check the timings for each hop. Any layer 2
switches (e.g., Catalyst 5500/6500) out there making lookup calls to a
router or RSM/MSM blade?

You didn't mention . . . how's the response time from the AR System
server, back to the user?

It almost sounds like they are timing out in the LB and it is having to
determine which server they go to again.

** I am posting this for another client so I do not have complete details
but am hoping somebody may have thoughts on the issue ...

Env: ARS 7 ITSM V7, Windows 2003 Servers (3 of them in Server Group)

Issue:
Log in through the User tool and hit the load balancer. Load balancer
quick passes them off to 1 of 3 ARS servers. No problem. If user remains
IDLE for about 10 minutes and then tries to do anything they must wait about
35 to 40 seconds to get a response from ARS.

The developers on the ARS side have captured server side log files and
confirm that the delay is not on the ARS side. It takes 35-40 seconds for
anything to hit ARS and when it does it completes immediately.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

We are using the UPN from Active Directory which can easily go beyond

otherwise it has worked just fine.

I believe this happens when a user tries to login to ARS from two different
IP addresses. You see this in the MidTier and is a known bug with the patch
you are running. Make sure your users are properly logging out of an
application and not just closing a browser window.

I believe that once you follow the instructions to install Certificate
Services (CA) you should modify that URL to match your environment and
what server you have installed the CA to.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

-tony

1. Install Certificate Services before configuring the Active
Directory for SSL. (See Appendix at bottom of article)
Note: To install Certificate Authority (CA), first make sure your log in
has the "Enterprise Domain Administrator" credential, then go to
add/remove program to add "Certificate Services"
2. Export the root CA certificate.

Re: OT: javac [newbie question]

2007-04-06 Thread Axton

I strongly recommend using ANT to compile from the command line. Some
good example of build.xml are available at:

http://arswiki.org/projects/dvpfw/browser/trunk/build.xml
http://arswiki.org/projects/dvpfw/browser/trunk/build.properties

http://arswiki.org/projects/dvphw1/browser/trunk/build.xml
http://arswiki.org/projects/dvphw1/browser/trunk/build.properties

While these are kind of elaborate (due to packaging, javadoc target,
several libs), they can serve as a reference point for remedy related
java programs.

For more info on ANT, see http://ant.apache.org/

"Apache Ant is a Java-based build tool. In theory, it is kind of like
Make, but without Make's wrinkles."

It makes building, cleaning, packaging, etc. a seamless process. Your
build command could look something like:
c:\> ant all

Re: ITSM 7.0 SLAs

2007-04-06 Thread Don Simmons
There are none out of the box. Sorry.

Date: Fri, 6 Apr 2007 07:59:01 -0500From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: ITSM 7.0 SLAsTo:

Good morning all,
This should be a simple question. We have the ITSM suite, but installed SLM
last. What I am curious about is if there was supposed to be standard out of
the box SLAs that apply to Incidents, Changes, etc. or if that has to all be
built manually. I could have swore that it came with some SLAs other than
their sample application, but I don't see any in my list.
Thanks,

SSL certs are provided by companies such as Verisign and GeoTrust. I believe
you need to negotiate with them in order to get the certs.

Re: ARS 7.0.1, CMDB 2.0.1 and version 7 apps...

2007-04-06 Thread Gareth Oliver
Hi Joe/Chris,

One slight amendment to the below - during recent ITSM7 Install & Config
training it was recommended that the first ITSM7 application to be
installed (if full ITSM is being installed) should be Asset Management.

No technical reason, except that it will speed the time of the total
installation up - after the CMDB is installed, IM, PM, or CM will
install the AST forms across the CMDB. However when AM is installed & if
it finds existing AST forms it has to modify them. Alternatively if AM
is installed first it creates the AST forms and when subsequent apps are
installed they do not modify them. AM also installs one or two
additional CMDB classes.

HTH,
Gareth

In order...

ARS 7.0.01 Patch 001
Admin and User 7.0.01 Patch 001 (do not install Crystal Reports part of
User or you cannot uninstall it)
Email engine 7.0.01 Patch 001
Mid-Tier 7.0.01 Patch 001
Flashboards 7.0.01
BMC Atrium CMDB 2.0.1 Patch 002 (there is now a Patch 003, supposedly)
Approval 7.0.01
Assignment 7.0.01
Incident Management 7.0.02
Problem Management 7.0.02
Change Management 7.0.02
Asset Management (we do not have)
SLM 7.0.02 (without collector)
Patch 003 for IM, PM, and CM (do _after_ SLM)

After that comes the Incident Management Task Template Add-On, RKM
7.1.01 (working on it now - was running RKM 7.1) and EIE with SQL Server
Plugin (working on next). Then I have to reinstall SLM with the
collector now that there is (supposedly) a way to use it with
ServletExec AS instead of JBoss.

ARS 7.0.1
Email engine
Mid-Tier 7.0.2
BMC Atrium CMDB 2.0.1
Incident Management
Problem Management
Approval Server
Change Management
Asset Management
SLM

Wanted to know the latest patch level that you are running with out any

Windows 2003
MS SQL 2005

Also, if I remember right, the order of installation must be as stated
above.. Correct me if I am wrong..

Is it necessary to install the Assignment Engine to have the newer
versions of the above applications running? If so at what stage??

Hi Sean,
Rather than doing push fields, use open window with the type Dialog set
the required fields, commit the changes using the push field. On the
open window 'AL' also add an Change filed to refresh the table field.

this will refresh the table on display of the form "a".

Thanks,

What I noticed happening is that the table is being refreshed before

You want to open crystal reports over the dialog form try to do this.
Open your dialog form for reports choosing window type as "Submit" and

I have looked through all my list archives and through the entire
knowledge base and can't find anything related to what I am
experiencing right now. Here is the scenario. My customer is
running AR 7.0.1 Patch 1 with SQL 2005. From a regular form, the user
selects Print Report and a Dialog form opens up. They make their menu
selection which invokes the Open Window Active Link that performs the
report function (Crystal report - from Report form), then the Crystal
Viewer opens the Report which automatically goes to the background
behind any and all Dialog forms and is inaccessible. Yes I know, I can
close the Dialog form and access the Report, but this is not the
functionality that the customer wants. They want to be able to view
the contents of this report before continuing on with making
additional selections, Yes, No, etc.. on the Dialog box, as they have
been doing in the past. This is the issue that I am seeing. The
Crystal Viewer in the 7.0.1 User Tool is embedded as part of the
Client, almost acting the same as a form.

If I login to a 6.3 User Tool against this 7.0.1 Server, the Crystal
Viewer is independent of the User Tool, so I can do what I want with
the report outside of the User Tool.

Has anyone experienced this same behavior? Is there anyway, to make
the Viewer independent of the User Tool like it was in 6.3? What's the
deal? Is BMC aware of this change in functionality? Is there a setting
I am not aware of to make the Viewer open independently?

Thanks,

G. Rogers
